Brian P came to do an inspection I paid for at a house we were buying. He initially brushed the concern off. Apparently a series of cracks and a gradient in a 5 year old house isn't concerning. (He would eventually make some general comment about the sloping second floor in his report, I'm sure to CYA.). What really made Brian unprofessional was his sharing of the summary and conclusions with the listing agent! Excuse me, I am the one paying, not the listing agent. Never in my 7 years of real estate experience have I seen someone I hire give information out for free...to a separate party no less! Needless to say, this was the one and only time I used this unprofessional company for home inspections. If you're in the OC area, check out Eagle Eye Inspections. They are much more professional AND thorough (drone footage at no additional cost, for example). And most importantly, Jeff at Eagle Eye will value YOUR money and YOUR privacy. Very well, here is my update to the review: First, what are you talking about the seller is entitled to the report? The inspection company has no legal grounds to share anything from the report with the seller, since the buyer paid for it. Now we know your company improperly trains all its inspectors, since you do not understand California law around inspection reports. Second, your formal response to my feedback reflects the overall attitude from the inspector as well: dismissive, arrogant, reckless. It is becoming more apparent that simple SEO and branding are your business model, not listening to the voice of the customer--everyday Americans trying to get by. I quickly realized CA does not require a home inspector license but require a license for home improvement/handyman that the majority does not have. Buyer beware, nothing is free. Bottom line, you don't need a home inspection to close. After an hour of research, I learned home inspectors are certified by non profit organizations with different requirements. Once certified, they are independent or part of a Franchise, i.e. Bob local Realtor vs Century 21, Sotheby's etc. franchise operated best practice methodologies. I chatted with WIN Home Inspection LaJolla and was impressed he answered the call on a Sunday 8pm where 5 others were voicemails, must be a game on, needless to say no return calls probably because Realtors refer their own inspectors. "Does that benefit the customer?" Time is of the essence to close so the inspector came out 7am the next morning as he squeezed me in before a 11am inspection in the area. Retiring as a IT guy, I was impress with the digital imaging, iPad and iPhone technology inspection as I was expecting pen and carbon paper the 3rd copy as my report. I hired the inspector not because of the 25 years WIN Home Inspection experience nor because it is franchise operated. I hired the inspectors knowledge as previous Home Improvement contractor in my home town Long Island, New York. What impressed a fellow New Yorker was when I asked about handyman work on the defected items, he turn them down and explained how I can do it myself as he agreed the majority of handyman and contractors are unlicensed and if they are they sub out to unlicensed unattended workers. He showed me is CA contractors license and said it is a Code of Ethics violation if I repair my own inspection, just like if a realtor refers a family member to do inspections or mortgages. 2 hours later after following him, he did not let me walk on my roof and in my attic with him as he said his E &O/1MM liability insurance will not allow. I was preparing his check and Tip, he said he can email me the report and offered me a $50 promotion he was running. Exceeded my expectation and made me proud to meet a fellow New Yorker, we tell it as it is no BS! I asked him the last question on the way out. Why do people do inspections if it is not required - he simply said even if this was a new house there may be defects as it's built by humans. Why do people get used cars inspected, it's as good as the mechanic inspecting.
