Buying a car here has been the worst consumer experience we have ever had. Bought a 2017 vehicle with a extended warrants and were told it still had over eighty thousand miles on the manufactures warranty. After driving our vehicle less than a hundred miles it began to smoke heavily. After about three months of trying to get them to fix what they had guaranteed, we find out the manufacture had cancelled the warranty on this vehicle due to abuse by the former owner. Finally got the vehicle back only to have it break down again. In the past six months we've only had the car in our possession for about six weeks. It is still presently at Southern because with the cancelled warranty we can't take it anywhere else. They are by far the worst place we have ever had to communicate with. We leave countless messages, but I don't believe you could pay them to return a call. Have showed up in person over a dozen times. Not an exaggeration. We have paid insurance, personal property tax, the car payment and insurance on this car, only to have it sit on their lot without any communication about it. Its obvious from the reviews that we aren't the only ones in this situation. I wish we had read reviews before doing business with them. We are truly baffled that a place like this is still in business. read more

If I could give a negative star I would! Never go to this location. Save yourself the headache and frustration. The general manager has no customer service experience at all I feel. To him everyone is just another sale not a customer. He has no idea of what building a customer relationship means. They should really look into the service they give people. read more

Always a great experience at Southern GMC in Greenbrier! Bought my first GMC in 2010 and loved the service and experience so much I upgraded to the same vehicle in 2015! My sales person Jacqui Fendick was great... she worked really hard to make the deal happen and communicated with me for a few days to make sure I got the exact vehicle I wanted. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS A COMPLETE SCAM. They inspected my car and told me I needed to replace my passenger side wiper. I replaced it, came back and then they made sure to rip my driver side wiper blade so I would fail the re-inspection. So i would just go ahead and purchase my wipers through them.. read more

Absolutely terrible communication from their parts and service departments. Once you buy the vehicle you are just a number and you have to call literally 30 times to get them to even answer. Then they never call you with updates. Took my car for a simple oil change and had to track it back down and call every department just to get someone to answer. When I finally do get an answer, at 5:00pm after calling for a few hours they tell me its done but they are closing in 5 min likes its my fault they did not call to tell me it was ready for pick up. If I had not called a bunch of times they would have never called me to tell me it was ready and they would have closed and went home (oh well customer). This is an ongoing issue and they either need to hire more people or fire the ones causing these carless issues. I also got two new tires mounted and one has a flat spot. They were fine with getting me a new one but it has now been 2 weeks with no call back about the replacement tire. What is going on with Southern??? read more

My truck was to receive installation of a hard tonneau cover. I dropped off at 10am and it did not get done that day. Had to leave it overnight friday, my day off. Got a call saturday that it was done and asked if it was working, was told its all in working order, that it was checked out. Drove back again Saturday and checked operation and it wasnt latching closed and was not installed evenly...too much gap on one side. It was pulled back into the shop for more work. I told the service manager that i had plans and could not wait around for proper install and asked again for a loaner vehicle. Was given a demo truck and left. Was called back around 3pm to pick up. Drove back again and went to check latching and one side still didn't latch. So that got another adjustment and finally i was on my way. went to pay bill, was not offered any dicount for all my inconvenience so asked for an adjustment and was offered 5% off...not what i thought was a fair adjustment for all my trouble but accepted so that i could be done. Never been so pissed that I felt the need to write a Facebook rant but if you are reading this never purchase a vehicle from Southern Auto Group and definitely never get your vehicle serviced at a Southern repair location! I purchased my GMC Terrain from Southern Greenbrier only about 9 months ago with a GMC certified bumper to bumper warranty up to 48,000 miles, got a standard oil change at about 47,000 miles and Southern recommended replacing a rubber seal in my transmission and they showed me that it leaked and quoted me about $215 to replace it, but I asked if it would be covered under my warranty. Later that week their service rep told me the replacement would be covered under my warranty and I scheduled to bring the vehicle back for service again. So, today I drive 45 minutes from Moyock to Greenbrier for this work just to get a call 6 hours later that now it's not covered cause the leak isn't bad enough... So as soon as they found out they weren't making more money off of me they decided the work wasn't covered under my warranty. After complaining to the manager he tells me the only thing he can do is fill up my gas tank and he doesn't know why his employee told me it would be covered cause it only seeped a little fluid and it's not leaking enough yet... no accountability for the mistake of the employee and hardly any compensation for the inconvenience and I still have to worry about a rubber seal that could seep fluids at any time... Southern cannot be trusted and will never get my business ever again. read more

I took my 1999 Suburban to Southern GMC to have a warrantied transmission serviced. The transmission was put in one year ago and I had lost all high gears while driving home. While I was upset given that I paid $2300 to have it replaced with a certified GM part I was relieved to know that I was covered under a 3yr/100,000 mile warranty. An hour or so after I had the truck dropped off I recieved a phone call telling me that the transmission that was installed was not a GM transmission. I am a very mechanically inclined individual who does most of my repairs myself and only take this truck into a shop when I want a warranty with a part (like a transmission) When I had this part installed I drove with the mechanic to the dealer to purchase it and like a hawk watched him install it so that I knew it wouldnt be switched with a rebuilt one. I knew that the rest of my visit would be terrible from this point forward as they seemed to want to get out of a warranty claim. I arrived back at the dealer to hear this story from the horses mouth that indeed this was not a GM transmission because it has gold paint on it. The "gold paint" was a mixture of sand and mud which could be wiped off with a finger. They then begin to tell me that I had exposed wires from my upstream 02 sensor which was making the truck run terrible. I began to think "I just hard wired those and triple twisted and insulated them with electrical tape. PLEASE don't tell me that he yanked them out because he was curious because that was a pain to get the pin out right." Indeed he did which has nothing to do with the issue I brought the truck in for. Then they tell me that the transmission came off a 2000 chevy van which if true doesnt matter because they use the same 4L60E transmission. Lastly they say it wouldnt be covered anyway because the radiator sprung a leak into the transmission cooler and was leaking all my radiator fluid into the transmission and vice versa. At this point I told them stop since they didnt want to listen to me anyway and get my truck off the lift. To avoid having anything to do with them again I drove all the way to Richmond to Hendricks Chevy to purchase a new transmission. Upon bringing it home I got to work dropping my old Trans out and comparing to the new one SURPRISE! They are identical same stickers same part number and same bolt pattern. I replaced the transmission in a day and got to work on my cooling system I dotn ahve the capability to perform a smoke test to see if they were correct in the assumption that the trans cooler was leaking into the radiator so I replaced it anyway. I had to rewire all the wires they carelessly yanked out and lastly the one thing that made me right this review. After I replaced everything my truck ran terribly like it had no communication with the ECU (Computer) I thought it was my work so I wasted 3 hours triple checking all my connections and wiring only to find that they had unplugged and entire wiring harness from my ECU which by the way is not how you test any vehicle that has an OBDII computer. That could've caused permanent damage to one of the most expensive parts of any vehicle. In closing I was in the market for a new truck and given that my Chevy has ran 16 years and almost 300,000 miles like a champ I was going to look at your dealership. After this nonsense of an experience I will drive 750 miles back home to James Martin Chevy for that purchase. My experience only makes me wonder how many people have fell for these dishonest tricks. read more

"Worst Experience Ever and EVEN WORSE SERVICE!!!" - Sad owner of a 16Yukon I purchased a brand new 2016 Yukon Denali for my wife in December of 2016. Shortly after (less than 2 months after purchase date), my wife started experiencing multiple problems: *service camera lights *Infotainment console shorting out *clicking noises from the dash *rough (I mean throw you in your seat; roughly) shifting transitions from gear to gear but particularly downshifting...on one occasion the transition between gears was so rough the seatbelt left marks on a 10 year old passenger. *instrument panel....speed, gear, gas, rpm and etc...goes completely dark. Yes; completely dark other than than series of warning/service lights that scroll across. So what do you do? It's a brand new $80,000 vehicle....you take it for service; right? Keep in mind this is my wife's car; the one in which she drives my children. Wrong!!! We were told on the ridiculously numerous occasions when we took it in for service that there was nothing they could do unless the light remained on. The service issues and concerns continued to mount!! We were told everything from they were waiting for an update to there was no recall. One tech even said we would have been better off to keep the one we traded in. We were even told they didn't know what to say....that they had a 2017 doing the same thing!! On my last service occasion, I heard them telling another client over the phone the same line of nonsense I have been hearing for the past 14 months. After doing some research, I found that my complaints are the same as numerous other Yukon owners. It reached the point where I was forced to hire an attorney. I am disgusted!! How ridiculous it is to be forced to acquire legal representation in an effort to get them to do what they should have in the first place.....STAND BEHIND the nearly $80,000 vehicle they sold me. read more

I will start by saying my first experience went well. Since that visit I returned to have the car pin striped added, undercoated, some scratches fixed and few other things taken care of. I must say the company was slack in several things. First of all, scratches that were pointed out were NOT taken care of, they kept the car almost 2 weeks for it to still not have been taken care of, shotty undercoating, one department wanted to blame other department for failing to follow through with a phone call notifying me the car was ready. Still 2 weeks later my car is not ready I spoke back with the Sales Manager "Brian" and salesman "RON" advised both of them my car is not fixed all they could say was to come back in and let them discuss it and decide what they are going to do. This is totally unacceptable. I pay $35,000 for a car that I struggled to save up money for to be given a run around and tell me I need to come back to SEE what they are going to do?? How can someone be so slack to be called a SALES MANAGER to tell me he has to check with his manager and would call me back. It's been 18 hrs since I have heard anything back from him. They never gave me the cleaner that the customer service coordinator sold me the thermogard package and paint sealant protection (improper term I'm calling it I Know) but they were anxious to sell me this package. The car interior and outside was very sloppy treated when they treated it it looks like they were in a hurry. Can't imagine that they had the car for 2 weeks. Yes I would like a courtesy call to tell me how they can turn my negative into a positive. There is more I could say but I do not have time. I have been using this service center for about a year now. Since switching to Southern GMC, I have had to take my truck in only a few times, of the few times that I had to take my truck in for service, I have had to make several return trips back and forth to the service center to have technicians look at the same problem over and over again. Case in point, I brought the truck in to have the headlights checked out because the low beams were not functioning. After leaving my truck at the service center for a few hours, I received a call saying that I could come get the truck. Upon my arrival, the valet rounded the corner of the shop and low and behold, the headlights still did not work. How does this happen? The next time I brought the truck in, I had several things worked on (new tires, new windshield, oil change, etc.). When I picked the truck up, one of the tires was missing a lug-nut cover and the rain-sense wipers didn't function. How does a technician, or better yet the service adviser, not notice this? It took two return trips before your service technicians were able to figure out how to make the rain sense wipers work properly. All-in-all, Southern GMC has been able to fix the problems that I have had with my truck, but they never can seem to do the job right the first time. In my opinion, it's a problem with quality assurance. I only hope that this service center hasn't done as bad a job on the engine as they have with the rest of the truck. read more

I went to look at a used pickup on their site and even though both their website and Facebook show they are open until 6pm on Sunday the front door was locked before 5pm and there was no one around. I tried to call and the phone just rang with no voicemail. I will not be coming back to look at a vehicle from a place that does not have the attention to detail to update their contact info. It leaves me to wonder what they misrepresent with the vehicles they are trying to sell. read more

At first, the staff at Southern GMC was very helpful and kind. When Southern GMC could not work the deal that we were looking to meet, we decided to take our shopping for a truck elsewhere. Before I continue, we were going to be trading a 2013 GMC Terrain SLE-1 that they wanted to buy from us for $15,000. You should also know that this vehicle with 17,500 miles has sold on lots in our area for $21,900 - $22,500. We were very insulted with the value that we were given on our trade in and even more insulted when they could not meet the out the door price on the new truck we wanted. Again, as a business they have a right to make money and sell the truck for whatever they wish and we as a consumer have the right to shop elsewhere, so that is what we did. Several weeks later we contacted Suttle GMC in Newport News to see if they had any trucks that met our needs. Unfortunately the lot did not have anything that we were looking for and told us they could do a search for the perfect truck at other dealerships. Suttle of course found the same truck on Southern GMCs lot and told us they could get the truck for the out the door and monthly price we were looking for. Miraculously, when we placed a $750 deposit for Suttle to secure the truck from Southern GMC we received an email from Southern GMC asking us if we were still interested in the truck because they had come out with new incentives. Our response: get the truck to the out the door price and we have a deal. Later that day, we received a phone call from Southern saying unfortunately the truck had been sold (of course to Suttle). Suttle GMC then contacted us saying they were having difficulty obtaining the vehicle. Southern GMC realizing that the truck we were interested in was being sold to a competing dealer in the area, refused to transfer the truck to Suttle GMC. Southern GMC somehow learned that we were the interested buyers on the truck and apparently didn't want to lose our business, however they did nothing to earn our business back. We had several conversations with two of the managers from Southern GMC to which we were treated extremely rude. We were told by both Bryan and Steve (Southern GMC managers) that they did not HAVE to sell the truck to Suttle and that they wouldn't because we were their customers. It all seemed very childish and petty. I am sorry, but we were never their customers because we never purchased a vehicle from them; we were merely guests. We then again asked them to get the truck to the price we wanted and we would buy the truck. One of the managers contacted us back several hours later saying they could not make the deal and that they weren't willing to lose money on the truck that Suttle was. I have no explanation for why one dealership was willing to sell me the truck, but Southern was not. Basically, Southern lost our business and it is my hope to deter my friends from this location for the purchase of a new vehicle. We have thus far had a very positive experience with Suttle GMC and are still in the process of purchasing a vehicle with them. Suttle also charges a lower rate for their new car buying fees that are tacked on to the price of the car. I hope this review helps anyone looking for a new GMC. My experience with Southern GMC was terrible in 2014 when I purchased my vehicle and continues to be to this day. I left that Friday with my new vehicle after signing a finance agreement. Purchasing the vehicle was obviously conditional depending on whether or not they were able to get my monthly payments where I needed them to be. When I returned the following Monday to finalize the purchase (I was told that even though I signed a finance agreement the banks were already closed and I'd need to return to sign "official" finance paperwork) the monthly payments had increased tremendously compared to what I had signed the previous Friday. There was no discussion of this, the finance advisor just handed it to me and said "sign this and it's officially yours". I reviewed the paperwork and noticed the changes, the man immediately got upset with me and made me feel like I had done something wrong by asking why the payments were more....I told him I didn't want the car anymore. Surprise! He found some discounts and the payments magically were the original amount we had agreed upon. When I thanked him for it he said that I BETTER be thankful. Now I can't help but believe if my husband had been with me for this second visit to Southern I would not have been treated the way I was by that condescending man. I was also talked into an interior warranty that is totally useless which I am also going to address. Fast forward to about three weeks later, the entire panel is out. No heat, no ac, no stereo, nothing, it's all black. Throughout the week I would have to pull over, turn the car off, and turn it back on a few times and eventually everything would come back. Obviously this is unacceptable for a three week old vehicle so I called Southern and scheduled an appointment to bring the car in as I live an hour away it does require some planning on my part. They kept my car for maybe 10 minutes before I was told they would not even look at it since I'm not having the issue at the very moment. I asked that they drive it around, maybe keep it longer than 10 minutes....they told me there was nothing they could do. Zero effort. Now here we are four years later. I have a giant rip in my back seat where the seam has totally split open. I made an appointment, told them I had an interior warranty and needed some work done on a rip. I realize this split in the seam has nothing to do with the dealership itself, BUT, when I purchased the interior warranty from Southern I had told the salesgirl I have a Rottweiler and an Italian Mastiff and that's why I'm getting a larger vehicle yadda yadda yadda, she STRONGLY ADVISED I purchase this special interior warranty because "even if they get bored and eat your backseat one day, it's covered". Needless to say when I brought the car in for warranty work I didn't think much of it. But guess what?!?! That warranty is only for stains! I begged and pleaded and told them the reason I purchased the warranty is because of how the salesgirl represented their product and I would not have elected the extra coverage had she disclosed the RIGHT coverage details to me. The best part? I was told if my seats were leather and not cloth they would have fixed the rip for me. Oh and my heat and AC only work on defrost and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to replace the entire electrical board that was going out to begin with. Needless to say, if you like wasting your time and money and getting misrepresentation of products and getting no help when you need it, then sure, go to Southern. read more

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. Cliff notes version before the long version: Got yanked around and time wasted so much trying to buy a 2015 Acadia that I went up to Suttle Motors in Newport News. My wife and I were in the market for a vehicle to handle 6 passengers, 2 newborns and a 5 and 7 year old. I did my research and had it down to a Toyota Sequoia, a Dodge Durango, and the larger version of the Ford Explorer. We test drove all the vehicles and received good help from the other dealerships, but it seems things are a bit different at Southern. To start we had *special* pricing through GM with my employer. We simply wanted to have them do what the other dealerships had done, give me, in print, the total cost of the vehicle with taxes and other fees involved. Upon entering the dealership they tried to run our credit right away (come on man, Toyota and Dodge didn't try that stuff), we balked at that and then were kept waiting in a little office until we were brought some BS sheet of paper saying what our payments would be with a random down payment and weird pay off times. When I asked again for simple info about tax, title, etc, I got a hand written total on their made up page. This page showed the 'deal' price, the MSRP, and something called a 'fair market value' of the vehicle which was almost 15% higher than the MSRP. Who pays OVER MSRP?! We left disgruntled, but made the stupid decision to contact the dealership via the internet department when we saw a new unit coming in, they *an English sounding lady* told me everything would be ready for me the next day. When I came in the next day the first salesman at the door said he would get all the info from them, which just seemed to me that he was trying to steal a sale. He took nearly 20 minutes getting me pricing, and it wasn't the *right* price that I was supposed to have from my employer. I left and got a call back from the internet department telling me how sorry they were, and how it would all be ready when I came in again that day. Guess what, I came in, no pricing! Salesman who helped me day before is off, some other kid tries to help me. Drags me over to their new Kia building to do the pricing, when he comes back with the BS pricing sheet I nearly lost my mind. I told him that I had had no problem getting pricing from GMC dealerships in Richmond and NC, showing EVERYTHING I would be paying out the door, in WRITING. Tax, title, tags, etc. I left totally pissed off. I looked on line and found that another dealership had what I was looking for; I called them, they emailed me exactly what I asked for in less than an hour. That weekend my wife and I drove up there with our 2 kids and bought from a different dealership. The best part was when I was driving up 64 on the peninsula the first salesman called and said 'Ohh, I hear we had some problems with pricing on the day I was off' I felt very satisfied to tell him where I was going, and no, there was nothing he could do to 'save the deal' read more

I purchased a preowned 2014 Sierra from the sales department of Southern GMC a about a year and a half ago. My sales experience was top-notch with Kevin Wyche going above and beyond anyone's expectations to find me a truck. I couldn't have asked for a better truck or sales experience. Somehow Kevin found me a truck that I literally wouldn't change a thing on if I ordered it myself from the factory. It was nice to not have to compromise my wish-list on a used truck. Thanks, Kevin. Once the sales process was done the truck needed a quick trip to the Southern GMC Service Department. GMC had a Technical Service Bulletin out on the issue effecting certain model-year Sierras(protective frame coating falling off the frame--easily researched online). The service department first acted like they had no idea what I was talking about (in spite of me providing TSB numbers) and secondly, when I finally brought it in for the service, it was done incorrectly and had to be returned for another day in the shop. So my first dealings with the Service Department were not nearly as impressive as my time with the Sales Department. Fast forward to last week, when I dropped the truck off for a routine oil change and state inspection. I did this first thing in the morning on my way to work and had a buddy drive me to work. I received a phone call mid-day explaining that they were wrapping things up but that it had failed the inspection due to a fog light bulb and third brake light bulb being burned out. "Bummer deal," I thought to myself -- but bulbs are bulbs and they burn out -- I get it. The service writer asked if I wanted them to fix it so I could pass inspection; which of course prompted me to ask for prices. One bulb was quoted at $37 and the other for $6, throw in "labor" and my grand total was ~$130 dollars. I told her I would call her right back. Price shopped the bulbs -- about 25 dollars total for both just about anywhere that sells automotive light bulbs. I called my service writer back, got her voicemail, and left a message explaining that as a multi vehicle Southern customer I felt almost offended being asked to pay $100 dollars to pop in two light bulbs, but I would agree to pay their upcharge on the parts if they would put the bulbs in and save me the hassle of bringing the truck back for a re-inspection. I never got a call back and had to call her a couple hours later. She said no deal to my proposal and I confirmed that I would get a rejection sticker and said I'd be by to pick it up. Ended up getting busy at work (firefighter) and tried to call around 5:00pm to set up a contingency plan for retrieving my truck if I got tied up again. I was transferred to various voicemails multiple times and never received anyone in service. There is apparently no process for whoever answers the phone to get your call to an actual human back in service. At 5:50 I called back(...again...) and demanded to speak to someone in service and not a voicemail, explaining my predicament, emphasizing my work and the fact that in the morning I had to go straight home to my kids so my wife could go to work. I was told by whoever answers the main line that unless I could get there in the next ten minutes, they were closing and I'd have to wait until tomorrow. I reiterated that this was not even a remote possibility and suggested she not mention it again and instead use her time to put someone on the phone that could help me. I finally get in touch with a service manager right before closing who said they could take an over the phone payment and stash my key on the vehicle. Brilliant idea. I go get my truck and go on my way. The next day I went to an auto parts store and spent $25 dollars and LITERALLY -- I know this might seem like an exaggeration but it is not -- 4 minutes switching the bulbs. And I'm one of the least mechanically inclined people I know. One popped in and the other required a quarter turn. Both easily accessible. FOUR minutes, I bet it would be half that for someone that does it for a living. But the dealer wanted $100 dollars plus a pretty steep upcharge on the bulbs. This might be "business," but it was not "customer service." Brought it back the next day for a pre-scheduled reinspection appointment and other than taking ~45 minutes to confirm that two light bulbs work, all was well. I would buy my vehicle from Southern GMC and encourage friends and family to do so. When it comes to after the sale, I would look for service elsewhere. Eric Englund read more

When I arrived for my scheduled appointment there were two cars blocking the empty lanes so I could not even pull in to the garage. It seemed that the employees had parked these vehicles there on purpose to keep people from being able to pull in. I had to pull around to the exit and back my vehicle into the garage. Nobody was around to greet me for my appointment and I had to walk into the office area. The first young lady to help me was very pleasant but had no idea what she was doing. She then passed me on to Tracey who was the representative that my appointment was scheduled with. Tracey was very knowledgeable and helpful. Tracey quickly explained the nuances of my appointment and I went to the waiting area. The cashier called me once the vehicle was done and took my payment. She told me my vehicle was parked outside and I left. Twenty minutes later I get a call from Tracey stating that there were additional maintenance issues that nobody even told me about before I drove all the way home. I have been to plenty of dealerships for service in the past and this was by far one of the worst experiences I have had. It is obvious that this service department is not run well, understaffed and under-trained. It makes me worry about the service technicians if they are operating in any similar fashion. We park this vehicle in our garage and I was obviously concerned when I pulled the vehicle out to see oil spots on the floor. It seemed to be oil spilled during the oil change and we have not seen any additional oil since. Still, I have never had a problem with oil spilling on my garage floor from an oil change and this only heightens my concerns with the technicians at this dealership. We bought our GMC vehicle used from another dealership last year and I have brought it Southern GMC for all of our service appointments since. Every appointment has been worse than the last and I have yet to see a single employee still working in the service department from one appointment to the next. I have come back several times now hoping that the dealership was just dealing with some turnover but it seems that they can not keep employees which has translated now to loosing my business for any service or car buying ever again. This is a shame because we are loving our GMC vehicle (our first we have ever owned) but we are lacking a dependable, quality dealership in our area. I would highly recommend that you avoid this dealership. read more

Watch yourself when it comes to seeing the finance manager. This shady dealership stacked my contract with add-ons after I told them I didn't want them, $3600. When I confronted the finance manager he told me "I was going to get over on the bank, he was trying to look out for me and he had a friend that owed him a favor at wells fargo that he used with me. He knew what he did was absolutely wrong and had the audacity to tell me I was trying to get over. I was a repeat customer and would of traded my truck in at this dealership in the future,but they chose to try and scam me instead of retaining my business. They want your loyalty but you obvisously won't have their's. They deserve negative stars! read more

This is the worst service department I have ever been to. On my first trip there they broke a seat belt and left greasy fingerprints all over the interior of my vehicle. The most recent trip my car sat there from 8am until 5:30 pm and no work was done. They apparently didn't know they didn't have the parts for the recalls on my car. When I called around mid day to check on the progress I was told it was being worked on at that time, obviously not true. When I picked the car up I was told that no work had been done at all that day. I will never go to this dealership again. read more

The service was thorough, and each repair needed was shown and explained. Due to the high cost of so much work, acceptance of competitor coupon and inclusion of a couple of the minor repairs at no cost was appreciated. The effort in completing the repairs by end of second day to accommodate customer's travel plans was also very helpful. The customer service and appointment staff were friendly and helpful. The repairs provided by the service department were a great disappointment and took three visits for corrections of errors that occurred during the initial service and repair. The first visit for a service oil change and repair of a seal (NOT part of the power steering). In the days following the repair the power steering was making an odd noise and I returned to the dealership where I was told that it was the power steering pump needing replacement and there were no other issues with it, fluids were adequate, and it was not a result of the initial repair visit. I elected to wait to have the power steering pump replaced as I felt a bit uncomfortable with the information the service dept provided. Less than 2 weeks later, the power steering hose come off resulting in a complete loss of fluid WHILE driving which obviously compromised my ability to direct the vehicle causing unnecessary endangerment of myself, passengers, and others around my vehicle. I had it towed back to the dealership, where they confirmed the hose had not been properly handled during the initial repair. I was able to pick it up the next day. Later the same day I picked it up, the service engine light came on and upon checking the fluids, I found that there was very little oil in the engine. There is no oil leak, thus bringing us to the obvious conclusion that the oil that had been removed had not be appropriately refilled during the service. The dealership does not provide courtesy vehicles not assistance with obtaining a rental vehicle, so the towing, rental vehicle, and oil replacement are all fees that were incurred due to the service department errors. Very efficient - only waited an hour for oil change and tire rotation.

We came in for a routine oil change, tire rotation, and tail light replacement. (My husband previously that week had stopped by to get an estimate) The woman who helped us was friendly, and that was about the best thing for the whole experience. We received a call after dropping the truck off, telling us 5 different things that needed to be fixed. We denied them over the phone. When we went back late afternoon to pick the truck up, the service lady again pushed us to fix the items immediately that had been mentioned over the phone. She had us go over the visual aid of brake fluid displays that are in the service department to further her push. How many times do we have to say no? I had a coupon from Southern Volkswagon and had been told when we arrived that it would be honored. The phone call to push the other repairs also included that they would NOT honor the coupon. Perhaps you should check with a manager BEFORE telling a customer yes. We will not be back. read more

In 2009 I bought a brand new 2010 GMC Terrain. I was the first owner in Va To purchase this model, this experience is one for the record books. The SUV would stall out, idle was off, mechanical clanking noises, a total lemon. I brought it to the dealership multiple times for repairs, they could not fix it. It was frustrating, the director "Clint" even was scheming some kind of trade in for a different vehicle because it was such a lemon. In the meantime of this trade in scheme, GMC corporate sent me a survey, and I was honest. I clearly stated the technicians were clueless as well as everyone in service. Well that pissed off Clint he then called me and cussed me out stating these surveys are how they are graded and to "F off" he then told me the deal was off. ( true story) and by them being privately owned I cannot bring my vehicle there for service ever. I laughed at his lack of intelligence and reached out to GMC corporate, they found another dealership "colonial Chevrolet" who amazingly enough fixed the issue first visit. Way to go Clint! My advice is stay away from this place. They have their own rules. I've been diligent with blacklisting this establishment for all government and military. It's your gamble. Be smart go somewhere else. I even reached out to a local TV station to report this for their " on your side" segment. Just feel it's my due diligence to share. I did want to mention that after a full review GMC corporate has apologized on behalf of this dealership and has made arrangements with me for future services needed, they have reached out to the southern hospitality group to make things right. read more

I wish I could say something about my purchase...However, I cannot make the deal. My wife and I visited wanting to trade in her 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee (50K miles), our goal is to get two vehicles to help repair our credit. We visited southern gmc because we heard great things about their service. We also choose them because they offer some vehicles on their website that we wanted to purchase. After visiting their lot, and reviewing the vehicles, we were ready to make the purchase. We just needed to see the final numbers before signing off. Our sells rep guaranteed us the pricing we seen online was the pricing for the vehicles. He needed a few days to get the deals complete, then contacted us to close the deal. I left work early prepared to sign paperwork and drive away. After sitting in their lobby for over an hour and half, the finance manager came with numbers that did not mach our agreement. He then informed my wife that the online price is a completely different pricing and they could not honor that price. Nowhere on their website does it say these pricing are for online purchases only. Nowhere on the website does it say this price will not be honor at the dealership. We spoke with the sales rep for days and he never said anything about the price could not be met, he actually confirmed to my wife that we could get the online price. Now at the deadline the finance manager is saying they cannot sell the vehicle for that price and would only offer the vehicle for nearly 3K above online price. The going rate for this vehicle in our area, with the amount of miles, is what the online price meet. The dealership price is well above the going rate. The finance manager then called my wife to try to get her to make the deal on one vehicle instead of the two. Essentially trying to divide my wife and myself, just to make this car sell. This is shady business practice and completely upsetting considering the reviews we we given. At this point we have no vehicles, when we were prepared to buy two vehicles. We only want a fair rate and not be stuck in two bad deals. read more

Shady service department...... My wife and I purchased a car last October from here our salesman was great but the dealership itself is horrible at customer service. About six months after we bought the car we noticed a little paint bubble forming above the drivers side headlight so on our next service appt my wife showed the service writer and she wrote us out a work order stating it would be covered. SO fast forward to our last service appt and we find out the aforementioned service writer is no longer employed and guess what.. There is no record that she approved the work that needed to be done so they are not covering the work. We spoke with Shane which is the service manager and he stated he will reach out to GM and see if they would do something ..Well 3 weeks later and still no word from Shane!!!! I work for a pretty big company here locally and i can't even begin to think what a customer of mine would think if i promised them a call and didn't follow through. * We have a clause where as long as we do our oil changes here they will cover our motor for life which is the only reason i still deal with them, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT EXCUSE WILL BE USED IF THE MOTOR EVER DOES GO BAD I'M SURE THAT WON'T BE COVERED EITHER.. Purchased a 2016 Corolla from the dealership and traded in my 4runner on the vehicle. Everything went great the first day and after receiving the vehicle. From that point everything went down hill from there. BUYER BEWARE-CHECK online ads very carefully!!! not only do the "online" prices change once you get into the dealership but the description of the vehicles will as well. I was under the impression I was purchasing a 2016 Corolla LE and was listed as such on the dealer website and a third-party site. After purchasing the vehicle it was discovered that the model was actually an L not LE. Dealership made an attempt to correct this issue and I appreciate that, which is why they are receiving 1 star. It is now 22 days after the transaction my bank has not received a payoff check for my trade in. I was told the checks are overnighted but yet they still have not received it. It looks like I will be paying a car payment on a vehicle I no longer own. I have never had such a horrible experience with a dealership before in my entire life. I have purchased and traded multiple cars in the past 4 years and this has got to be slowest experience yet. There seems to be a huge amount of miscommunication or no communication within this company. If this is how they treat family members of employees that work at the company I hate to think how others are treated. read more

It isn't normal for someone to write one review let alone two. I had a great sales experience, but after the sale service has been just as wonderful. Nicole Gnader in service really makes you feel at home. I recently had an issue with the way Southern installed my exhaust. I ended up going back a few times, and Nicole worked with Clinton (the Service and Parts Director) to make the situation the best it could be. Clinton recognized there were errors made and did everything in his power to assist me. He even got under my truck in his shirt and tie to work on my exhaust himself. In the end, everything was made perfect, and I left extremely happy. It is nice to know there are service departments that stand behind their work and make things right. It is hard to find honest and eager to help service departments this day and age, but southern is it. Nicole and Clinton are an awesome combination, and I will consistently work with them. read more
