So disappointing. Stopped here on a 10 hour family trip home from Tennessee. None of the Great Oaks beer was being served (despite its presence on half of the menu and the giant sign over the bar). We ordered wings, brisket, ribs -- all were very dry -- plus sausage and the Yardbird tacos, which were decent. Sides were not flavorful. If you know and love good BBQ, do not expect to find it here. read more

My husband and I just moved to this area 4 mos ago. We have eaten at So. Craft BBQ twice and stopped in today to have lunch and a beer at the bar. We sat at the bar, waited 13 min before being approached by the bartender (though he walked past us 4 times) After 20 min we got our drinks. (I asked if u serve a certain drink and was told one could be made but wasn't asked what type liqour to use, what brand, nothing... what I got was a glass of sour mix basically. It was horrible and I was NEVER asked how it was, if I liked it... absolutely no interest was shown in our regard to our satisfaction from the moment we sat down at the bar... We ordered food. Our food came out after 20-25 min, my husband got what he ordered, I did not. The bartender - (after my sitting for 13 min not eating & with the plate of wrong food pushed up to the bar side of the bar) yelled down and asked about our food (the bartender was 'busy' talking about himself to another patron so we waited. I am not one to answer by yelling through a bar that my food was not good and also not what I ordered. After 7 min more I finally got to tell the bartender (as he had come down to our end of the bar by then) that my food was wrong and asked for something - a smoked meat that I am sure is plentiful and a quick & 'easy out' for the kitchen. 15 min past and I still did not have my food. Not a word from the bartender except for an "it's coming" 7 min. after I reordered. I went to the restroom, spoke to another patron & then back to the bar... my smoked chic was just being placed on the bar. Do u really think I wanted to eat then - nearly an hour after we ordered and at least half an hour after my husband finished his food? No, of course not. This was a very different bar and restaurant that we went into today from where we visited 2-3 months ago. Very sad service from the minute we walked in. What has happened to your business? My gosh, this service is comparable to the service we get from Lowes in Johnson City - just plain rotten. I have been in the restaurant business for 25 yrs, not high end restaurants (not Ruth's Chris) but ones exactly similar in food, drink, atmosphere. If I ever provided service such as we rc'd today I would know that it would be time to get out of the business. We had been served by same barkeep as today previously but he was working with another bartender who did actually check with us and make sure we had what we ordered... I guess that is why we came back... We really were hoping for a restaurant bar to call home... we ate at your sister restaurant, the Label, over a month ago - 2 of us ended up with food poisoning... Why? Well, today we spent good money at your establishment and got nothing in return except complete disappointment - you all truly sucked today. Again, you should have sent out a manager, comped the food that was never eaten because of Southern craft error and employee's lack of interest and offered us a return visit in you but this did not happen, I am sure it will not happen as from what I have seen from your company - your sincerity is the same as your employee's - null and void read more

Tonight, I drove from Knoxville Tennessee to attend a soccer match at Milligan University. I decided to stop at the restaurant and have a meal with my best friend from Florida and her son from Milligan University. The bartender was amazing, I don't remember her name. The food was absolutely amazing and I even got leftovers to go. I told the waiter he was the most dreamiest man I have seen in a long time. Hahahah. He was wearing earrings and gold chains and had a goatee. After we enjoyed some beverages in our food we left in the rain. While I was waiting at the door for a ride to pick us up I realized I forgot my food at the table. I went back to the table and my food was gone. But I ran into the waiter and he immediately had a sad look on his face because he had just gotten rid of it. I told him it was OK and went back to the door to wait for my ride. I immediately was hunted down by what seemed like the owner or head cook in the back. He asked me if I wanted more food and he went in the back and prepared me a full meal of what I had on my plate. This meant more to me than anything else. I've never had service that good. I will be back for more soccer matches and more meals at this establishment. Tried Southern Craft and found it quite good. I had Brisket, it was very moist and tender. It tasted about as good as it gets short of Texas which has made brisket a cult following. Wife had pulled pork tacos and liked them as well. Food arrived hot and service was prompt. Everyone is eating outside in VA so we weren't able to test the indoor part of the Resturant. read more
