Jerk chicken with bean-rice, collard greens and Mac
    Amanda W.

Whole in the wall place with super fast service. Phenomenal collard greens - perhaps the best I've ever had. Mac and cheese and the rice where all right and could use a bit more flavor or salt. Chicken was cooked perfectly with very good jerk flavor. Tangy, lots of spices, and some sweetness for the perfect bite. Prices are not the best. Overall I would comeback because of how fast this meal was done.

This restaurant has relocated from its former location at the Savannah Mall. The food continues to taste delicious, with a large selection of their popular items such as jerk chicken and apple smoked wings available for instant enjoyment. Some menu selection are cooked to order and take approximately twenty minutes to prepare. During my several visits to this new location, I have been more than satisfied with the service and taste of the food. Be sure to drop by if you are in the area and desire some outstanding cuisine. Highly recommended.

Curried Chicken on rice with collard greens and stewed green beans

My husband and I don't live nearby but had heard great things about Kreole Kitchen from his work colleagues. The man at the counter told us we were about to experience some real food and boy was he right! My husband got the curry shrimp with collard greens and green beans and I got the curry chicken with candied yams and Mac and cheese. It was all fantastic, so good that we cleaned the plates! We live out in Pooler but we will absolutely be back.

We usually pass this place on the way home and thought that we'd stop in to see what they had to offer. Prior to my visit, I checked out the menu online and my mouth watered after discovering this place served Oxtails. That was my main reason for visiting. Upon entry, I noticed that the place was very bright, clean, and spacious. The staff was very helpful and courteous and patiently answered all of our questions about the dishes offered. I was a little disappointed to find out that their fryer wasn't working because Hubby really wanted to try out their fish and wings. The only problem I had with the menu was in my opinion, the oxtail dinner was overpriced at $23.00 for a plate of oxtails. In my opinion, that is little too expensive considering you only get 4 oxtails in your dinner (I would have been happy with 5). So instead of spending close to $45.00 for two entrees, I decided we would both try my oxtails and Hubby opted for beef stew, white rice, yams, and vegetable medley. With my oxtails, I ordered peas & rice, mac & cheese, and cabbage. To wash it down, he ordered an Island punch and I was pleased to see they sold "Ting" a grapefruit soda from the West Indies. I had never seen it in Savannah since moving from NYC. I didn't realize how much I missed it! The food was delicious and very tasty. Hubby said the beef stew was delicious and the oxtails were OK (I'm biased... I like mine better! LOL). All in all, I really enjoyed my dinner. We'll definitely visit again, as I'm eager to try the other items on the menu (I definitely want to try their wings!). I do recommend you visit and try the cuisine, as they have something to suit any taste you may have.

Great food!!!! The service was good, the food was great and the restaurant was clean. They could use my help with making the macaroni and cheese but it wasn't bad

The seafood sauce was bursting with flavor, and the oxtails were tender and perfectly seasoned. I was bummed they were out of the turkey wings, but that just gives me a reason to come back. Looking back, we probably should've kept right on walking. We ordered the fried chicken, potato wedges, red rice, New Orleans rice, and cabbage, jalapeno cornbread and pecan cornbread. Unfortunately, the only things we actually enjoyed were the fried chicken and the potato wedges. Once again, it was an epic fail. The cabbage tasted like it had been boiled in plain water with absolutely no seasoning. Both the red rice and the New Orleans rice reminded us of Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's microwavable rice--bland, lacking flavor, and nothing like the rich, seasoned rice dishes we were expecting. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the potato wedges were cooked perfectly, but those two items weren't enough to save the meal. We came hoping for authentic Southern comfort food, but left disappointed. Sadly, this is one restaurant we won't be adding to our list of places to revisit.

Before our trip, one of my fraternity brothers told me that if I wanted some of the best Southern soul food in Savannah, I had to visit Mrs. Wilkes. He also warned me that there would be a long wait. Let me just say--he was absolutely right on both counts! We arrived at the restaurant and stood in line outside in the rain. We didn't get seated until 1:00 PM. Normally, I would not wait that long for a meal, but for the record, and I can't believe I'm saying this--it was worth every minute of the wait. The experience was unlike any restaurant I've ever visited. My wife and I were seated at a large table with approximately eight other people whom we had never met. Yet within minutes, it felt like we were dining with family. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with genuine Southern hospitality. The food was simply outstanding. Every traditional Southern dish you can imagine was brought to the table and passed family-style from person to person. The home-cooked flavors reminded me of the meals many of us grew up enjoying. Everything was delicious, and the desserts were just as impressive. What made the experience even more special was the sense of community. People of different backgrounds and races were dining together, sharing food, conversation, and fellowship. The staff worked together seamlessly and went out of their way to make every guest feel welcome. While we waited in line, a gracious lady shared the history of the restaurant and the legacy of Mrs. Wilkes herself. The staff even provided umbrellas to guests who didn't have one--including me--which was a thoughtful gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment to customer service. From the food, to the hospitality, to the rich history and unique family-style dining experience, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room exceeded every expectation. If you're visiting Savannah, this is not just a meal--it's an experience. I proudly give Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room a 5 out of 5-star rating and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Savannah.

The location is outside the city and you would need to drive from the city center. The cafe is to the right of the church, with a glass door that's in-between the restaurant and church building. I had heard the fried chicken was excellent and was aiming for that. Sadly, the restaurant ran out so I went for plan B: braised oxtails. The oxtails were fantastic: full of savory flavor swimming in a really nice gravy that wasn't too thick. Putting it on top of my red rice made for wonderful comfort food. The red rice, which wasn't mushy at all, had a bit of tartness and there was a fairly substantial tomato flavor to it. The other sides were more pedestrian. The braised cabbage was rather bland and lacked any personality. I only ate it because I needed to feel better for myself that I ate some vegetables. The mac n' cheese wasn't creamy but it was passable. The mac was more like a casserole. Service was friendly throughout and professional. It's a church cafeteria that's actually worth going out for.

Even after the 2021 rebrand, it still held on for a while, but something in the last 5 years at the main office has completely lost touch. They expanded to three locations: ; downtown, Tybee, and Hilton Head, and in the process the whole identity fell apart. The menu has been gutted of its originality. The "OG" items are now overpriced, portion sizes have been cut in half, and the original sides that made it special are gone. What used to be a simple, order-and-sit-down experience is now chaotic. You're herded in by an overstaffed but somehow still disorganized team of high-turnover employees with zero consistency and very little emotional intelligence. There are always way too many staff for the number of customers, yet service somehow keeps getting worse. Last night was the final straw. We tried the Tybee location first, waited 30 minutes just to be seated, only to be told they were basically out of everything and could only do drinks. So we drove to downtown. Same exact thing. Out of sausage. When we asked if we could just remove it or substitute it, we didn't get a simple no, we got an "absolutely not," because apparently everything is pre-mixed and nothing can be adjusted. Even worse once we sat down. It took 15 minutes just to be asked for drink orders. A different server came over, introduced himself like we were starting fresh, and then got visibly annoyed when we said we'd already ordered water and a soda. From there it just kept getting more awkward. At one point he bumped my cup while I was literally lifting it to my lips and told me to "watch out" while he was placing food down. He took forever to check us out and finally bring our soda to go, and ended the night by saying, "just so you know I'm faster than the other girl," like we were in the middle of some weird staff competition we didn't sign up for. On the outside it still looks like a fun Savannah staple. But once you sit down, you realize you're no longer a local guest, you're trapped in an overhyped tourist operation that's completely lost what made it good in the first place.
