I haven't had the pleasure of visiting this donut place, but my co-worker lives around the corner from them and swore they were the best. She finally brought them to work to share, and she was right. I've always been a pretty loyal Mary Lee fan, but these are right up there at the same caliber. Unfortunately I don't live close by, but if I did I'd definitely consider them a competitor to Mary Lee for many and I'm sure they'd do well. The donuts are small in size, which I actually prefer. The flavor of the traditional glazed is a bit buttery but not too much so. They kind of have that melt in my mouth, light and fluffy donut taste and texture that I love. If anyone is ever in the Dutchtown/Prairieville area, plan to check them out! read more

Nice surprise at the work this morning. Someone brought little sausage rolls from Southern Maid. First time sampling anything from this place. Boy were they good. A spicy sausage swaddled in a soft warm roll. They really hit the spot with a cup of coffee. Makes me want to try some of their Donut's! read more

horrible impersonation of the original locations. I've had donuts from Southern Maid several times, as far out as Shreveport and they're always fresh and hot. I planned a trip to this location omw to NOLA from Baton Rouge. They open at 4 am, I arrived at 4:13am and the guy handed me a box of donuts, already ice cold and so tiny and dense. I was really disappointed considering I'd be looking forward to them for so long. I think I'll just hold out until I find myself back in Shreveport. read more

JUST WANT TO GIVE CUSTOMER A FAIR WARNING!! Southern Maid donuts do not use sanitary practices. The guy icing the donuts were removing the donuts from the rack to be iced was not using gloves. I asked the guy taking orders did they not have or use gloves; he looked at the guy picking up the donuts with his hands and said I guess not. He then grabbed some gloves to fixed my donuts after telling the other guy to move because I said what he was doing was unsanitary. Mind you the guy just laughed while everyone else looked at me like I was from another planet. But what bothered me the most and what made me felt as if I had a responsibility to make this post is the fact that after he fixed my donuts and rung my order up; he proceeded to go fix donuts without gloves nor washing his hands. This is very disturbing and as well as dismissive, especially if he was the owner. Also, the donuts that were touched with bare hands were put to the side instead of the trash. I am sure some lucky customer will receive them. My last visit to this place. read more

Pretty disappointed in the 5 kolaches I just bought. (I was bringing them to my office for the staff.) Told the guy how many I wanted when I ordered and he automatically gave me a total of $7.52 right at the window. I believe the sign says they are $1.25 each?? Soo...$6.25 before tax, right?? Soo....if tax is, say, 9%, my total should have been $6.81?? So he increased my price by .71 cents? Where is that extra cash going? He swiped my card and asked if I wanted a receipt. My "receipt" says the $7.52 price but no detail, nothing. No actual record of what I paid for or what tax I was charged. Also, these "kolaches" are the size of my index finger. They should have a picture of their size because I expected them to be the same size the other donut shops/grocery area stores sell. I paid $7.52 for 5 "kolaches". These are NOT kolaches.
