My go to order is one of two things - either catfish nuggets or whole wings. I also opt for lemon pepper seasoning on them. Both come with fries, 2 pieces of wheat bread and a drink. Guess what! I use the bread for a peanut butter & jelly sandwich for later. lol They have canned drinks or Kool-Aid. I go for one of the Kool-Aid flavors as a treat, which is something I do not prepare at home. The service is always good and pretty fast. They also participate with multiple delivery service companies (DoorDash, etc.). The lobby has a few table and chairs for customers, however, I have never seen one customer dining in. There is a mounted TV playing and sometimes music. This place used to be the beat on 8 mile. However, since covid happened it has went down hill. Food is not hot, over cooked, and the potions have gotten smaller. For example instead of getting 2 whole filets of catfish they now cut filets in quarters. i know all the jazz about raising cost because of covid. I'm a culinary/MSF graduated. So I know all about food cost. Instead of lowering prices for the lowered amount of food that is given this establishment chose to raise prices AND GIVE LESS FOOD. The food was amazing ! Went there on a Sunday afternoon and it was busy with church folk getting trays of food! Yes , trays of Chicken or Catfish.The wait was kinda long, maybe about 20 mins. I got a lunch special with 2 chicken wings, catfish fillet, fries and Kool-Aid to drink all for $5.99 . Yes, Kool Aid! I have never ordered Kool-Aid as a drink and it definitely didn't disappoint. The catfish and wings were battered and fried perfectly. They even sprinkle this lemon pepper fairy dust all over the food. It's very light, so you may not taste it. The customer service is great as well. The workers dealt with my indecisiveness and gave me all the sauces I asked for. The parking lot looks a sketchy, but the establishment itself was very clean and inviting. I live in PA, so I may never be back to JJ's, but it definitely goes in my book of hidden gems. My trusty GPS found this place easily enough. For those of you who have never been to JJ Fish, this is a fair warning to you. Most of JJ Fish will be in the rougher neighborhoods, trust me I know. I have been to many JJ fish back in Chicago and only one was in a "nicer" neighborhood. When I walked in to this restaurant I was not greeted, that is okay I expected that. I ordered my usual, 6 wings with Arizona Green Tea. This meal cost me $6.81 (tax included) total. The chicken tasted YUMMY, I am glad that Detroit has JJ Fish. I always get mine with the Lemon Pepper. Now some JJ will ask if you would want Lemon Pepper on the chicken and others will just sprinkle Lemon Pepper without asking you, this location did not ask me and that was just fine with me. I think the Lemon Pepper "make" their chicken. Be warned, when you get the wings, they are very HOT. You will get the wings right off the flyer. Cons: the only complaint I have here is the size of the wings. The JJ in Chicago gives a much bigger wings. If you have never tried JJ give a try. As we all know, our state is in the middle of a surge of COVID-19 infections. I put in an order today at JJ's over the phone. I was told there was a twenty whole wing special for $15.99. I opted to stay in the car and wait for my order to be ready before going inside. I got to the door and noticed too many people inside at one time. There are 6 foot social distancing stickers on the floor inside and there were way too many people in the store to abide by normal social distancing rules. There were people inside with no masks as well. That said, many of us chose to stay outside until the number of customers thinned out inside. I finally got inside and one of the employee waved for everyone to pack in inside. I had to voice my concern about social distancing rules and this guy was still trying to get people inside. It wasn't until I raised my voice that he backed down off of asking everyone to pack in. I discussed over the phone just giving the exact total owed and the employee said they were in the back and couldn't help me there. I finally got to pay and I was charged $21.19. Now, I did order two ranches, but there's no way that the $15.99 special plus ranch and tax totaled $21.19. I payed and left. To the owner of JJ's, please fix this store. Your practices are going to get someone sick and your business fined. I get that when you're getting a lot of business, you're focused on keeping people from walking away from their orders. I shouldn't have to speak up. You should already have a system in place where your customers don't have to be subjected to the potential of infection. You've had 9 months to figure this out. What happened today was simply unacceptable and I won't be back until things are properly addressed. Care about your customers enough to keep them safe. Maybe we're just another dollar to you. This place is amazing and I have been coming here for years because of this reason. The chicken is always hot, the chicken is golden brown, and the lemon pepper they sprinkle on top is the cherry on the sundae. There fries are amazing too. This past Super Bowl XLVI I ordered wings and when I went to pick them up it took 45 minutes for me to get in and out. This may sound like a negative but it is not; the wait was unbearable but every wing that they prepared was golden brown, hot, and by far the best wings I have ever had. Most places would rush the process of cooking the food to get people in and out as fast as possible, but JJ's made people wait to make sure their customers came out with a quality product.
