I've eaten at the Outlaw Restaurant in OURAY3 or four times now. I always thought they were overpriced and for some reason when it's 60° outside, they have the temperature at about 78 inside. It's way too hot. The food is good but way overpriced this time I got spaghetti and meatballs and I believe it was $37 or something like that for spaghetti and meatballs! I've had their ribeye before which isn't too overpriced. I think it's around $50 something ,I don't know, but it was really good. The service was lacking pretty bad this time before it's been just OK. This time it was bad. They didn't have enough people working as far as I could tell. They had one person work in the bar one person serving all the people in the restaurant and one Cook . Our waiter decided he wanted to talk to the people beside us for about 10 minutes as we sat and waited to give our order to him. Then, after we gave his order, we saw him floating around the other tables and talking to people he knew and forgot to bring our drinks to us until I asked him. Then he acted like it was my fault, but he did bring us our drinks and comped one. So needless to say, I don't think I'll ever go back to this restaurant. We had a nice dinner at The Outlaw Restaurant while visiting Ouray. The fillet steak was well prepared, though a bit underseasoned, and the steamed vegetables and baked potato were good. The restaurant has a full bar, and an older man was playing the piano at the front. It was crowded and noisy on a busy Thursday evening. Our server was friendly and took good care of us throughout the meal. Dinner was more expensive than expected, but since Ouray is a tourist town, I guess that's to be expected. read more

Great ambience and menu choices! Shrimp cocktail had very large shrimp and the Ribeye was prepared to perfect temperature. The service was well-organized as the staff worked together to ensure all tables received their different courses without undue waiting when items were ready to be served. After an epic day of hiking in Ouray and driving the Million Dollar Highway, a gargantuan sized dinner was desperately needed. The Outlaw Restaurant came highly recommended. Located right off the main drag in Ouray, this place is blessed with a storied past all while doing it the old school way. Colorado mountain vibes are extremely evident when you walk in. It's really a Western-style saloon with an emphasis on its restaurant at the forefront. When we dined in we were graced with a live piano player who played classic hits throughout our meal. *Keep in mind, this is a nicer dining establishment than it appears from the road. We were slightly soaked from the rain after our long hike, however the staff didn't' bat an eye at all. I really appreciated that because I felt like I was dressed way down comparatively to the guests in the dining room.* Diamond Jim Brady Cut 12 oz ($43) // Served with garlic mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Prime Rib was cooked well and the horseradish and jus it was served with was excellent. I did ask for medium rare and this came out more medium. Post hike, does it matter? I devoured the whole thing! Outlaw was such a fun spot! The live piano music gave it great energy, and the food was amazing. My husband had the prime rib and said it was one of the top five he's ever had. I had the seafood ravioli and loved every bite. The inside is definitely darker and has more of an old saloon feel--not super fancy--but the vibes and food totally made it worth it. After checking out of our hotel on a Sunday morning, we weren't sure where to eat. Google searches didn't show much options for brunch. We drove through Main St, and the sign that said BRUNCH and $5 mimosas caught my eye. We were immediately greeted by a server. She sat us and gave us the brunch menu. Lots of delicious options. She also brought us mimosas as we were deciding on food. My husband had a hard time picking just one thing. While waiting for food, my husband watched the NFL game that was playing on a huge tv screen. I was looking around the restaurant reading what past visitors wrote on wood planks around the restaurant. The restaurant is rustic, but very well maintained. Restrooms were clean as well. Husband ordered the breakfast burrito. He can't resist pork green chili and chorizo. It was fat and filled with egg, veggies, potato, and a bit of chorizo, topped with green chili. I tried it and it was delicious. The restaurant had every type of hot sauce you could think of as well. I had the morning after burger. It is a French toast brioche bun. (I saw a past commenter complain about an unexpected sweetness to this menu item. He obviously didn't read the description well enough.) The burger was juicy, seasoned well, crumbly, and delicious. Yummy over easy egg and two big, thick slices of bacon. The fries, not the best, but edible. They were skinny and maybe a little bit overdone. I like a potatoey fry. The seasoning on them was good though. Overall, a great experience. It will have to be a regular spot when we visit Ouray again! read more

This place is a must try when you're in town! It's got that unique history and style to it.. fits the town completely. So fun to even have a piano man playing old timey tunes. I would give them 0 stars if I could. Never ever go here. Horrible people. We had a reservation that we made 4+ weeks in advance. We got to the restaurant and they split us up. We obviously had an issue with this but they claimed they couldn't seat us all together (even though they said they could multiple times on the phone and assured it wouldn't be an issue). They then charged us a 20% gratuity fee on a bill with 4 people on it. We asked why this was the case (calmly) and their "manager" came out and the first words out of his mouth were "We're gonna call the cops if you don't pay." No one EVER said they weren't going to pay. Then multiple people got in my face and got loud as if we were even in the wrong when we weren't. It obviously caused a big issue. They never took the fee off, never apologized, never seemed to feel bad for screwing us over. 0/10 humans. read more

Both the steak and the salmon were out-of-this-world delicious! We are already looking forward to eating here again. The old-time piano player helped to engender an old-West ambiance. The only blip for us (and I think it was just due to an accidental oversight) was that we sat through three table turnovers before we received our meal. A solid 3 stars is about all I can give on this one. We came in on a Friday for lunch and it was just okay. The service was good enough, servers were friendly, and the place was clean and well kept. The boards on the wall gave us something to look at while we waited for our food. The food though, it was just okay. My Morning after burger was okay but nothing to phone home about. The bacon was quite chewy and there was a bit of an odd sweetness to the burger that I wasn't quite expecting. The fries were at best made an hour or so before we arrived and were not hot, and certainly not fresh. My wife had the BLT and after picking through the really thin and still very chewy bacon and the lettuce that had HUGE ribs still on it, it was a somewhat serviceable sandwich. Maybe lunch/brunch just isn't their bag and they are more of a dinner spot. But at least as of today, I would say that there are many other places that you could go while in this town to get a better lunch. read more

On a quick visit to Ouray, we came here for dinner with a few friends. The place was packed and seems the be THE PLACE to go in the tiny town. The wait time wasn't too bad on a Friday (35 minutes) and the gal said she would text so, if we wanted to grab drinks near by that would be a suggestion (they do have a bar but, it was full of people & you can't bring drinks outside). When we sat at our table the server was welcoming and told us menu favorites as well as items that were close to being no longer available/sold out--We were able to scoop up the last ribeye of the evening while others had to make some ordering adjustments. The woman who bussed our table was friendly. They brought us ice water and hot herb bread with butter, then took our orders. Matt told us about their specials. We ordered prime rib ($36) and chicken friend steak ($29) with garlic mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. I had a house salad with fresh mushrooms and hubby had a greek salad ($3 each). We had creme brûlée ($7) for dessert. Everything was good. Big portions! They kept our water glasses refilled. The decor is fun with old fashioned photos and saloon memorabilia. Guests write messages on wood planks that are displayed on the walls. There is a nice outdoor patio with a beautiful mural. They also have cafe tables on the front sidewalk with heaters. .
