I brought my Lexus LS 500 in for an Air conditioning issue, and after diagnosing the issue, the mechanic told me that just the part alone was going to be over $1200.00 with tax, plus it needed specialized programming by the dealership only. They didn't feel comfortable with trying to program a part since it was the only one in the US. I was a bit disappointed, but they were very honest with me and didn't charge me a dime for the diagnostics. That's what I call great customer service. I am definitely coming back for any other needs that arise from the car in the future, and hopefully, Lb exud won't plant a proprietary bug in the next issue I have with it. I recommend Southgate 100%! I recently used their oil change service. You can now make an appointment early in the day and can wait for your service. No more dropping off and returning later for me. A great convenience. I also needed major work done on our truck and it was just before the holidays. Parts were ordered and delayed. We received a call on Xmas Eve that the truck was ready. I feel the shop made every effort to get the truck ready and running for us before the holidays! The staff is extremely friendly, professional and does quality work. We love Southgate Automotive! We've been taking out vehicles there for regular maintenance and repair for several years and have only good things to say about the quality of service we have received there. Most recently we had our 2017 Dodge Caravan towed in because it suddenly started shuddering in a very scary way. We were sure it was going to be a very expensive repair (feared it was the transmission). Turned out to be a coil that had been replaced in February and was still under warranty. So no charge at all! And they changed our oil at no charge too! Thank you owner Dave for years of great service! And special shoutout to scheduler Seamus who is one of the nicest people I have ever met! Darn! There's only room for 5 stars when I want to add 10. Driving from Napa to Reno in my 2011 Lexus, it started mis-firing. The car limped into Reno and by a recommendation, I went to Southgate Automotive. This shop (of 30 years!) took unexpectedly prompt attention to my car as my plan was to be in Reno for only 2 days. Owner, David, was exceedingly tenacious in analyzing the elusive problem. Manning the front desk, was "customer-first" Seamus. Both are stellar at what they do. Needless to say, I made it back home safe and sound to Napa - thanks to Southgate. By taking your car to Southgate, and using a poker analogy, you'd be holding all aces. read more

They are frauds who recommend unnecessary maintenance and repairs. Including windshield wipers and battery. One year after recommending battery replacement it tested at over 80% viability at Les Schwab. Don't trust this business. read more

WARNING DO NOT in any circumstances take your car here. I brought my car there twice and they have yet to fix the problem we came in with. The third time we did not even make it home from their shop and it stalled again!!!! Did they ever take it to a test drive after ward??? What a joke!!! We don't mind paying the money but obviously they NEVER figure out what was wrong with it!!! The mechanic NOT once speak to us on the phone or in person - just have a secretary call to relay the FAKE problems they came up with the charge money. They replaced parts that did not need replace and the problem persists. Whatever they "fix" got worst - it went from stalling occasionally to Christmas lights going off and the car had to be towed. We will take the car else where to get it fix once and for all. Goodluck if you don't believe me. I know it Covid time but these folks are UNETHICAL!!! ZERO. read more

Dave and Zach were amazing for me. My wife and daughter had a leak near the water pump. They drove into Reno and Dave said to have her bring it by and he would look at it. They noticed it was a small leak and we did not need to replace it. They needed to drive to another state and they were off and running. He noticed they needed some oil and charged a very small amount. They went way up and beyond what I could have ever asked for. Imagine someone taking care of my family like this team did and helped me out in a very difficult situation. One other shop said no they would not look at it and they would not recommend anyone else. I cannot thank them enough for how much they cared and helped us out so much. I would not use any other shop than this shop in Reno. So let me start by saying- Go Here!!!!! As a Midwest transplant from a rural town where everyone knows everyone so cheating someone is unheard of, I was worried being in a big city again to find an honest car repair shop. After doing some on the fly research because my car randomly started jerking, I went into this place somewhat frantic. Their customer service was simply amazing. I returned for my scheduled time and they dropped me off at work. They even stayed after for me to leave work and get there. These people are kind and don't do anything that is unnecessary. I was not overcharged for services and they were honest about my needs. But here's the kicker.... a few days later, I received a signed thank you card in the mail. Initially you don't think much of it. However in this day and time, a "thank you" goes a very long way. I'm not sure how long I will stay in Reno but I'm definitely sure that I will only use their shop for my car repair needs. read more

They were not able to fix the problem since it's a BMW and they really thought I should have someone familiar with a European check it out. Extremely pleased with my service today at Southgate Automotive. My serpentine belt snapped and within minutes the owner identified the problem: a broken water pump. He and his son fixed the pump quickly as well as checked and reset some engine codes. The best part was, I had a bent bumper and they snapped it back in place without me even asking! I've been putting off taking my car to a body shop because of expenses so it was a huge relief that they took that off my shoulders at no additional cost. I checked into their shop on Yelp and received 10% off which was the icing on the cake! I do not live in Reno but if I did I would most definetely go back to this shop.
