I love the sandwiches from the Southside Deli. Last night I ordered and enjoyed a Meatball sandwich. Predictably wonderful meatball with traditional Italian texture and flavors. The baguette was perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with a rich flavor. The best part of this is "Not disappointing " The next time I order one, I will order it with double Provolone cheese, and extra sauce. Maybe even a side for dipping. Now I will preface this with the fact that I am not from Jersey or New York, and I am not even Italian, but I do hold a properly made Italian sub in high regard. And ya know what, for a little deli in Ocean Pines, this was pretty darn good. All the classic toppings I would've hoped for. Nice amount a meat. Lots of oil & vinegar. My mom got the tuna salad sandwhich and it was packed with tuna! Our subs were ready very quickly and the restaurant is nothing fancy, but everything you need. Best food best service I've been going there for like 15 years I remember when they first started in Ocean Pines and then they opened in West Ocean city and both places are consistent and good!! More than a neighborhood deli / beer & wine store; it's full of characters, mostly sarcastic, good beer & wine selection; and the freshest deli case in the area. Fresh because they are busy, slicing over-stuffed sandwiches and subs. The BEST Italian Cold Cut Sub in the area....no competition! And, outside of Sandra's homemade jumbo lump, BEST crab cakes in the resort area!!!! Larger pieces of lump, minimal filler....better than resort seafood restaurants. 3 stars are for carrying SOME of Boar's Head and using good ingredients. My experience is downhill from there. Before the keto diet I used to get their hot and cold subs regularly. The hot ones are great, the cold ones use good meats/cheeses/etc, but are an epic fail on assembly. Being from NJ, this segment of the food industry is pretty competitive, almost like crab is here in Delmarva. When it's oil and vinegar it about needs to be squeezed and rung out--the paper they are wrapped in is usually soaked by the time I get home. When it's mayo you take a bite and all the meat and cheese might slide out from in between the roll. Let's go a little easier on the condiments maybe, don't want obvious finger food requiring a knife and fork on account of it just being too big of a mess otherwise. And I have no patience for people who sell food that do not know the meaning of no carbs and/or are flat out unable to provide relevant details about nutrition. When the Colby was completely yellow and being referred to as cheddar, I asked about this with carbs being the main concern, just to make sure I was getting the right thing. Colby Jack doesn't have carbs and cheddars usually do, looking to cut all that I can out on something like cheese; I'm on under 10g of carbs per day right now. Being told "It's longhorn Colby" does not answer the question, just more confusion. No worries a quick internet search filled in those blanks when I got home. So longhorn Colby is 'goin' in the trash' Colby and from now Harris Teeter is my only source for Boar's Head, so what if it's a longer trip and they usually do a thicker, sloppier job of cutting it than at the deli. Just the price of getting what I actually want and having the full selection of Boar's Head to choose from. I get that my values and priorities probably do not line up with everyone else's, and people around here that are content with things like local pizza have just never had good pizza from a place like NY or NJ. Italian anything is a different world there, apparently. If it does things like this it doesn't stay around long. I see this as the end result of not enough population and not enough competition. Bottom line, this was just too big of a dealbreaker for me. read more

Pretty good inventory mostly of beer & wine (as the title not obvious). However, the staff wasn't at their friendliest. Wasn't the best service in that respect. Had the seafood sandwich, and it was packed, so very filling. Food quality and quantity was definitely amazing! read more

A little pricey but the food is delicious, so I think it is worth it if you want quality. We had the crab cake and shrimp salad subs and both we amazing. DH and I stop here for subs on occasion while at our beach place. This week I tried their tuna. Hubby got the the shrimp salad. They were both fresh and tasty. The waiting area is rather small so at lunch time there is usually a crowd of us herded in there like cattle but I've never been disappointed in their food. read more

The food is phenomenal, however the cashiers were extremely unpleasant, and lacked good customer service skills. They appeared to despise their jobs, and were extremely miserable. It was blatantly obvious that they were dissatisfied with their work environment, and were very unresponsive. They may need coaching, guidance, or additional training on how to engage with their clientele. Comes on a nice, chewy, Italian roll, stuffed with good meats, oil and seasonings. At $8.95 for a 12 inch roll, it's not the cheapest around, but it's worth it. This is a beer, wine and a deli joint. Small selection of your basic brews, with some of the more popular (i.e. best selling) imports. Nice wine selections, but a bit pricey - most $8-10 bottles are probably $10-12 here. They carry Boar's Head meats and cheeses, as well as a wide array of Cento products, like anchovies, peppers, tomatoes and sauces... if you know the Cento brand, they got it. Side note: this time of year, they offer a cup or pint of their award winning chili... it is awesome. Their secret ingredient.... believe it or not, is just some & )%#^(*\ with sauce!!! Second visit. Chili was sweet and spicey. Good although I prefer Terlingua-style. That's just me. If you like hot roast beef sandwichies (think Arby's or Roy Rogers) then you owe it to yourself to try a Hot Italian here. There is no better roast beef sandwich! Over priced and the subs weren't even that good. :o( If you look at my other reviews, I'm usually very generous with stars when it comes to reviewing restaurants, but we were very disappointed when we ordered 2 subs, a small side and a cannoli... $32! Online menu shows one price when we ordered but the subs were much more when it came time to pay (50% more!) for the order at pick up. Cashier claimed the prices went up (of course they did... the season's about to start in a beach resort area!) but isn't it BAIT AND SWITCH to advertise one price and then charge a much higher price? Total Wine (on a smaller scale) + authentic Italian deli = Southside Deli! We were craving a good Italian sub and read the rave Yelp reviews on Southside Deli so we had to check it out. Called ahead to place an order and 15 minutes later, our delicious sub was ready for us and it did not disappoint! A 12" sub is enough for 2 people, it's very heavy and full of delicious awesomeness = hearty bread, fresh deli meats (by Boar's Head), sweet/slightly spicy peppers (I agree with Evan L., I prefer the spicier kind), and perfectly pickled red onions. Next time, I'll try the hot sub version. If you're not a meat-eater than no worries, they also have seafood options, soups, and salads. But wait, there is more! Wine, wine, wine - and lots of it. They also have a small beer selection (typical brands with some which you can purchase by the case. And it's also a mini Italian grocery store with food items such as pizzelle, stuffed olives, frozen gnocchi and tortellini, pasta sauces, etc. I got excited when I saw they have ice cream only to discover that they sell generic grocery store brands, no gelato. But that's okay, this place is all about those subs! I'm echoing the other reviews - you'd be hard-pressed to find a better Italian sub in this area so make sure you visit Southside Deli! read more

5 Stars because it has EVERYTHING you need in one place-except seats. The Italian Cold Cut SUB is the BEST from OC to Ollie's/Twinbrook Deli in Rockville, MD. The Shrimp Salad Sandwich (I like mine on rye) is best as well. The deli guys are all business and efficient service. They even have Ben and Jerry's for dessert. Wine selection is adequate and prices competitive. Beer selection seems average, but they carry what sells....its a tough economy. Their hours are long enough into the eve - even in off season in pokey old Ocean Pines. If they ever closed I think I'd have to move. read more

Cool little spot to grab a sandwich. I always get the "RACHEL corned beef sandwich. Plenty of food for me to have a bit later. We always get chips and drinks at the convenience pet of the store and it's handy if I want to get a bottle of wine for later. Food is good. Fresh and tasty. Meat sliced just right. Across the grain making it chew easier and more tender. A little pricey for sandwiches tho. You're going to spend 22 bucks on 2 sandwiches easily! Good neighborhood spot tho. read more

I crave these deli subs and sandwiches when I am away from the area. I can't find a deli sub like this back in DC, so when we come out to OC we have to visit here at least once (if not multiple times). The subs are to die for, and they have a number of other made-to-order type food that I've not tried, I'd say are probably worth trying considering I've not had a bad sub here. read more

This Deli, made me miss home a bit, as I cant seem to find a good place to get a sub in the greater VA/DC/MD area. For those of you from up north, you know what I'm talking about. It is a beer and wine store, with a small deli in the back. They use Boar's Head Meats, and have all the standard subs, sandwiches, along with some side items they sell by the pound, and a soup of the day. I got the Italian Cold Cut, with all the fix-ins of a real deli, the corn and crab chowder, and it was delicious. My kids got the club sandwich, which was really good too. It's a little expensive for a "Deli", but the food makes up for it. This is carry out only, so grab a six pack and a sub, and go eat it on the beach. I will definitely come back to eat. read more

The best subs around. With that's said (to my opinion) you get what you pay for. Prices are a bit high but it's worth it, as the quality of their food is great. They are absolutely delicious and made with the best deli meats and cheeses: Boar's Head. The sandwich have plenty of meat inside and veggies are optional. Waiting time is usually 10-15mims but I always get my food within less than that time. I would highly recommend this place if you want the perfect sub. read more

the only sub shop, on the main land in Worcester county, that makes a sub right. trust me. They have a second location in West O, but it is no good. you must go to the Pines, if you want perfection. I usually get the Italian, but the daily specials always kick ass, and they know how to make a pastrami. It has been rumored that the best crab cakes come from SSD, but you will have to try it to find out. the reason I only give a 4, is because, I am rating nationally, in the OCMD area, this is as good as it gets. read more
