I can see how this place could get busy and have long waits. Not a ton of seating, and I'm guessing for classic greasy spoon diner breakfast food it would be busy yet fantastic. I got here for a late lunch after driving up from Vancouver. Ordered the reuben and fries. So, it's not a reuben as I know reubens. The beef is there. It tasted more like pastrami than corned beef to me, but what do I know? I'm pretty sure I can't tell you what the difference is between them without looking it up. It had sauerkraut but not enough to have more than a faint flavor of sauerkraut. No rye bread here. But it did have mustard and a pickle. Starting to sound like a grilled pastrami? That's what I thought. But I can't say I really cared and that's why it's getting 5 stars from me. It was great. The sandwich was great and the fries were great. Decent prices and good vibe. The poutine was almost void of gravy and the previously mentioned burning smell was my French Dip. The runny yolk always scared me away from eggs benedict, but if they regularly taste anything like the bennies served at Southside, I've really been missing out. The veggie bennie option was absolutely delicious and all of the toppings were fresh and blended so well. We kinda stumbled onto this place for lunch. A typical diner but I was delighted with their food. I had the chicken pot pie; granted, it wasn't exactly a chicken pot pie but more like chicken with lots of fresh vegetables with a filo pastry on top but it was still quite yummy. My husband had the burger and it was divine. Not sure if it's because we were famished but I thought his burger was top notch. Oh, before I forget, I selected salad as a side with my dish and the salad was wonderful with mixed greens, carrots, light vinagrette and pine nuts. Pine Nuts! I loved the salad. I think I might go back for the salad and the burger! Note that there are only about 9-10 tables so not a huge place. We didn't have to wait but we were there a little outside of normal lunch time too. Pricing wise, it is quite moderate for Whistler; we spent about C$32 including tip. I heard their breakfast is quite awesome; we saw a lot of people ordering breakfast during lunchtime so it must be quite good. read more

I always stay in Creekside in Whistler and this is right across the way. I've now been twice and quite enjoy it. My first experience wasn't as good as the second. I get take out and the first time there they put my poutine and burger in the same container = soggy burger!!!! So I learned and asked for separate containers the second time. The burgers are yummy! My only complaint is that the sauteed oninos are not sauteed enough to my liking, but maybe that's just me. I'm sure I'll go a third time next time in Whistler...the cold always makes me want yummy comfort food and this place is great for that. read more

We ordered coffee and the Scotsman ordered the Salmon Bennie, I had the Monte Cristo, it was just the sandwich for $10.99 no home fries. One thing that sealed the nail in the "I'm sticking with the Wildwood" coffin was the cooks sneezing all of the grill area of kitchen. I lived in Whistler for 9 months and Southside Diner is by far the most filling, delicious and Bang for Your Buck breakfast you'll get in town, that's a guarantee. I got the blueberry pancakes expecting some blueberry compote or frozen blueberries.... Nope... There was a great amount of fresh ripe blueberries... Amazing. The home fries were crispy and well salted and tasted great with the salsa I got. Coffee was even good. Service was exceptional. The place is kind of small, so I would assume one would have to wait during peak times and the airing space is outside. Free wifi here. The only suggestion I would say is that they should have the option to buy one smaller pancake alone instead of such a large one for ppl with smaller appetites. Came for breakfast. Wanted to come early based on other reviews of this place being packed. Showed up around 8:30 and the place was a quarter full. We were seated right away and had water and cutlery. My husband ordered the south side slam, sausage, two eggs over easy, pancakes and home fries. I opted for the unusual Benny which had bacon instead of ham. The Benny was good, the poached eggs were nice and funny and the hollandaise was creamy and a little tangy, could have used a tad more flavor of something to boost it. My husband's assortment was very good and plentiful, so much food. His pancakes were very good, they had a lot of vanilla, maybe a little too much, but they were light and fluffy and crispy on the edges, which I love. The best item on both plates were the home fries though, and I honestly think it's because they're deep fried. Either that or they cooked on the grill in copious amounts of butter, there's no other way every nook and cranny were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They were also seasoned very well with salt, garlic powder, and a little parsley, maybe some other stuff but they were delicious. Service was good, a little slow getting change, but we left full and happy and will be back. read more

The only real diner in Whistler, Southside offers your normal fare. From hotcakes to chicken dinners, everyone will be satisfied at the diner that's across the street from Creekside. My friend got a steak there (it may have been a special?) and really enjoyed it. I got the spaghetti and it was fantastic. If it wasn't the fact that I had to take a bus to get there, I would have eaten there often. As it is, it's a great piece of Whistler charm for anyone staying at Creekside hotel. read more
