Food good, fast service. We had the Crispy Fried Chicken Thighs. Really tasty. If you can't take spicy, this is the one to order. Comes with a spicy sauce on the side.

I panic ordered for my family and still feeling regret. But even with the panic-order, we loved what we got. Wings were delicious and everyone's favorites. We loved the basil chicken and added some rice to it. Ordered some other chicken dishes with rice and a cucumber salad. Wished we had ordered a sandwich and garlic noodles though too...next time!

My wife and I saw the reviews on this place and one day we found ourselves just a couple blocks away looking for a lunch spot on Shattuck so we popped in. Definitely a divey casual kind of spot, it's pretty small inside but there are a decent amount of tables to sit and enjoy your food. Ordering was a little unusual as you walk up to a window in the wall, and we waited for our food. I got the combo chicken thigh/garlic noodle plate as I love both fried chicken and noodles! I was pleasantly surprised with the quantity of food- quite a bit of chicken! The chicken was tasty, a nice crisp outside but still juicy on the inside and flavorful. The garlic noodles were a little too greasy for me so I didn't finish them. I've heard good things about the fried chicken sandwich as well, so that will be on my list for next time!

One of the best fried chicken sandwiches I've had in the East Bay Berkeley area! Amazing flavor and probably one of the biggest fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had. There was two large chicken breasts inside there. I like my food hot, and this was served perfectly! They house make their brioche bun themselves and you really noticed that with each bite it is seriously unreal with how soft and buttery the bun is. If you like fried chicken sandwiches, this is a place that you need to check out when in Berkeley! The fries were pretty average but paired nicely with the sandwich. The service did take a while, but I believe it's because the food was fresh and I appreciate them taking their time for that. The restaurant was set up really cute for Christmas, which was really nice and festive. My drink was kind of average, not the best high tea I've ever had and it taste kind of bland, not really too sweet, but it was still really good just probably wouldn't order it again. On the note for the sandwich and the meal I would order that 100 times over and I do look forward to coming back here and I hope that my review helps people find this amazing spot!

Crispy Fried Chicken Thighs and Garlic Noodle Combo. This will be my go-to order from now on! Canned soda not shown.

One of my favorite street Thai spots and open at 9:00am. Chic and garlic noodles for breakfast! Crispy and savory makes it a unami heaven with every bite!

Came for the chicken sandwich and let my stomach order a few additional items. The star is the chicken sandwich 10/10, salad was crisp and refreshing 8/10 . Fries soggy 0/10 and cheese sticks were just okay 5/10.

Nice items. if you know what I mean.

June 29, 2025 about 1:50 pm This food story starts out as many others have ... "On the advice of a friend, we headed out to (fill in the restaurant) for the best (fill in the food) you've ever had." The two of us found metered parking after a few minutes and walked across Shattuck towards the small shop known as Southside Station. There she sat just as described with an easy to miss small footprint and a few tables outside. Inside, the store is cheerfully decorated with flowers in a vase and colorful wall bric-a-brac. Cleanliness and organization abound with the exception of the waste receptacle area. That looks crowded and neglected with its long used receptacles. We order a chicken sandwich combo to be cut in half to share, and are given a "pickup order" buzzer by the cashier. The owner-cashier is a frendly loquacious fellow who in a few minutes shows more interest in my life situation than my family does. I felt almost awkward as I'm not accustomed to that much friendliness sneaking up on me. We have two types of tables to choose from. Tall-round or short-square. We choose tall- round, the buzzer goes off and we're off to eating. The food is smartly served in to-go boxes. Smart except thar the food tray plus the two tall to-go boxes, curly fries, our phones and a coke with barely fit on out table. Nudge something here and a chain reaction will push something else off the far edge. The food box lids unfolded are tall making the food hard to reach in for. . Folding them out to access your food easier takes more table space and Splash- something will be on the floor. We move down to a short-square table that better fits square to-go boxes. Everything fits but... OH No Mr. Bill! We sat at a table with the wobbles. My wife holds the table stand with her foot for the next 15 minutes as we finish our meal on that tippy surface. And enough about that. As for the food. The bun and breaded chicken are delicious by themselves and would make a nice base for a hundred types of sandwiches. Both were fresh. Nice flaky chicken batter. Good stuff. This sandwich is served wonderfully hot. A rather tall sandwich, it easily falls or tips apart in your hands if attempted to be eaten after being cut in half. We both wished the sandwich wasn't as tall and made wider so that taking a bite top to bottom wouldn't stretch the jaw quite as much. It has a thin sweet sauce and I believe shredded pickled vegetables. I don't care for sweet sauce very much and my wife wanted more sweetness and flavor so that's a wash. It is very hearty. No skimping on meat here but you did pay a premium. My curlyfryaphile said the fries are so good but "Urgh..if they only had Ranch". I wouldn't mind stopping by again. There are several more items on the Southside Station menu I might like to try and hey, I might get lucky and that owner-cashier likes to go fishing.

I can't believe I've never been to Southside Station before for their fried chicken sandwiches ~ 2025 is the year of discovery and I'm so happy I made it into this super cute and cozy spot on Shattuck. After reading several reviews and recs about the wings, sandwiches, and creative food fusions here, I was in the area and had to swing through. I will say the fried chicken sandwich is noteworthy and a top contender for East Bay. I know there are so many places that have amazing fried chicken sammies these days after the craze hit, but give this one a try if you're near or around the area. The meat is clean, juicy, and for the value, great portions (insta-worthy portions). The buns are made in-house, topped with pickled papaya and a Sriracha sauce of some kind. Delish! I also had a Thai Palmer (an Arnold Palmer x Thai Tea hybrid), and it did the trick! The chef and co-owner is so kind and cool, a husband/wife duo I believe. Would love to come back and try the Chicken Satay Tacos (how fun!). Catering/Party trays available and a kiddo menu as well. Parking can be tricky on Shattuck, but where this spot is located, you can get lucky! Metered parking, but totally worth it!

I have been here twice and both times, the chicken sandwich was amazing. we also order a separate fried chicken. I love the buns on them too. the first time, it took a while for our order and the lady in the front left and never came back. We had to call out to someone in the back to make sure they were making our food. The second time around, there was no issues. If you have not tried this place, its a must! The next time we come here, we will need to try something else. Love what they put in their batter and sauce for the sandwich.

No lie. Whatever fairy dust they use on the chicken wings might be crack. Hands down the most delicious and addictive chicken I've ever had. Service is also warm and friendly. I'm already planning my visit next week! Uh oh - trouble.

The bakery itself seems to mainly be a takeout spot, with minimal indoor seating which felt pretty inconvenient given the limited space for customers, however it did seem to serve more of a purpose as a waiting area anyways. The structure of the bakery leaves a bit to be desired as well, as we found the glass display cases as the only form of menu, so being in the front of the line while still deciding what to order caused some unnecessary anxiety. Regardless of those nitpicks, the baked goods themselves were pretty good! Service was instant, and all of the treats looked delicious--it was hard to choose what we wanted! Our favorites were the Thai Tea and Ube Coconut Mochi Donuts. Both had really strong flavors--the Ube in particular was very clear in comparison to most other Ube desserts in my experience. The textures of the mochi donuts were really well done too, with soft exteriors and chewy, glutinous interiors. The same can be said about the Mochi Muffins, though with crunchier parts around the edges. We found the contrast of textures to actually work really well! However, the flavors of the Muffins were lacking a bit--the Red Velvet didn't stand out much, with the frosting tasting a bit too sweet, and while the Five Spice had a really interesting flavor, it was also a bit too sweet, drowning out the more unique citrusy flavor. Overall, however, all four of the goods we had were enjoyable eats, and would definitely return some time to try out other flavors!

We had been to Tarocco for lunch and figured we would ask them for a quote, too. My daughter warned me that the owner is trying to be an "influencer" on Instagram and posts photos of herself in crop Tops so I should beware, but that's fine by me. We called to get a quote and had a discussion. After we gave the owner all of our information, she told us she wouldn't give us a quote unless we came in person (?!) Which is weird because this isn't how restaurants work. Typically for events restaurants will give you a quote via phone or email for the sake of convenience. We had gotten 3 quotes already from other restaurants via phone. Making us drive 45 mins just to get a quote is a total waste of time. Especially if we can't afford it. So my daughter called again, left a VM explaining we couldn't come in person due to time constraints, and again asked for a quote. No reply. We waited a few days and called again. No reply. Finally we got a voicemail from the owner saying that she didn't like my daughter's attitude ?!!! Apparently you're not allowed to ask this restaurant how much they charge for events unless you're face to face. This lady has absolutely no idea how to run a restaurant. We took our business elsewhere and recommend that you do, too.

Their menu showed items like waffles and croissant French toast, which sounded really promising. I decided to try the croissant French toast and really wanted to like it. The croissant itself had potential, but the egg mixture was very heavy and lacked some of the warm flavors you typically expect in French toast, like cinnamon or vanilla. Even with the berries and syrup, it still leaned very egg-forward. I also ordered a side of bacon for some extra protein, and that was actually cooked really well. For drinks, I tried the strawberry latte with the vanilla bean soft top. I initially expected more of a coffee-forward drink, but it was much sweeter and reminded me more of an elevated strawberry milk. The space itself is cute and gives more of a social, aesthetic hangout vibe than a traditional brunch spot. Parking can also be a bit tricky. There's free parking in the Trader Joe's garage nearby, but it's unclear whether parking there while dining at the café is allowed. Overall, I liked the concept and atmosphere more than the actual food during this visit.

The food was always good, but the service was never particularly warm--polite, efficient, and impersonal, like a well-drilled operation. Today we took a twenty-minute ride with our six-week-old baby for one last visit before they close for good. We arrived before their advertised closing time, yet were coldly denied service. There was no one waiting behind us, but we were met with an inflexible, robotic "sorry, we're closed." No one was overtly rude, but the interaction felt rigid and mechanical, as if following procedure mattered more than acknowledging the people standing in front of them. It would not have taken much effort to accept one last order from a loyal couple with a newborn--especially since nobody else was waiting behind us. In the end, Standard Fare is closing exactly as it operated: precise, rigid, and lacking warmth. Hopefully the next business in this location will treat its customers with a bit more empathy.

The food always looked really good, but for whatever reason I always ended up ordering from somewhere else. Well, I finally did it. I finally ordered from Cali Alley, and all I have to say is, why did I wait so darn long? Door Dash was having a 2-for-1 deal on the Cali Alley Burger, so I ordered one of those (and got another for free) , as well as on the small mac and cheese, so I ended up with two of those as well. I got fries as he side for the burgers and saved the second burger and mac and cheese for the next day. I also bought a small side of veggie fried rice for lunch later in the week. OK, let's start with the fries ... wow. Super crispy. Don't know what they do to them, but I think I almost ate all the fries that came with one of the burgers before I even touched the burger. The fries seemed to have a coating like some fries do to make them extra crispy on the outside. Whatever it was, it made them so good, I couldn't stop eating them. I was almost too full for the burger. But who are we kidding? If there is one thing I am good at, it is eating more than I should. The burger, which is described on Door Dash as "char grilled, fresh ground brisket and short rib burger, served on a toasted brioche fun with crisp lettuce, tomato onion marmalade and garlic aioli" was thick and incredibly flavorful. I couldn't stop eating that, either. It was that good. I ordered it medium, and it was pretty pink, but it was sooooooo flavorful, and all the toppings worked well together. I didn't get any cheese on it because I wanted to try to burger by itself and not mask it with cheese. I might try adding cheese next time, but honestly the burger is so good, I almost wouldn't want to cover up its flavor with cheese. Oh, I almost forgot. When you order on Door Dash, you can opt to have them include a small side of their chocolate-chipotle bbq sauce, and I highly recommend that you get it. It's a really interesting flavor and is good for dipping the fries in. I didn't try putting it on the burger, but that might be good, too. The mac and cheese was OK. It's important to note that I enjoyed the flavor but it is more of an eggy consistency than a saucy mac and cheese if that makes sense. It has a nice kick of black pepper, which I liked, though. The vegetarian fried rice was also fine but could have used a little salt. All that to say, don't be like me and procrastinate, get the Cali Alley Burger and fries ASAP.
