My friend and I have come to southside tavern multiple times. This evening we went to southside and my friend, 26 years old, was refused service because her ID "seemed fake." I'm not sure how an in state Mass license "seems fake." She also provided them with three forms of ID and was still refused service. We have gotten drinks here multiple times before with no issue, but this server and manager were extremely rude and persistent that the ID was fake. Funny enough, the same server was our server last time who served us alcohol... Just poor customer service in my opinion, if you are so weary of serving people under aged you should probably stop being cheap buy a scanner. read more

The service was absolutely terrible. The managers are the rudest dbags from braintree. Must have never met kids or have kids of their own to yell at kids, standing outside being kids. Food was an absolute waste of money and would never go back. Not to mention they let a 6 month old baby behind the bar but cant have kids standing outside. I've been going to Southside tavern Braintree since it opened and go multiple times per week. Sitting at the bar tonight, the bartender was yelling at customers, swearing, and initiating fights. He told multiple people that they had to pay in cash or keep an open tab because it was too much work for him, by yelling. He handed someone in our group a piece of paper to write down his order because he simply could not be bothered to listen to anyone. Apparently he is newer since we never have an issue with our typical bartenders there. Surprised is an understatement for how this establishment was handled, and the manager was told as well. Take your business elsewhere unless you want F-bombs yelled at you while you order a drink, after giving a generous cash tip up front. read more

Can't begin with how unprofessional. Run a large business down the road and come in with clients ALL the time. Spent 42 minutes there with pro athletes and we were all very respectful. They gave me a high chair upside down to put my child in it with a car seat and the high chair randomly fell over and left a bruise on my child's forehead . Where do I begin. My friends and I were looking forward to a night out for St. Patrick's day and did not get those results at Southside Tavern. We gave our ID's to the waitress and offered passports as a backup form of ID and were assured that we were all set. The manager kept our ID's and accused my 24 year old friends, my 22 year old friend, and myself of using fake ID's. I have never once been treated so poorly by management at an establishment and these people refused to take our valid passports and other forms of identification to be verified. We were kicked out of the restaurant in a very overly dramatic fashion, and we want you guys to know that this was the most unorganized and childish management we've ever had to deal with. They have a mixed bar/pub/restaurant atmosphere and are pretty good at accommodating different needs because of it. We've had no issues eating on the "restaurant" side with our one year old as they provide high chairs and have a decent kids menu. There are plenty of tvs throughout the place to keep you up to the minute on the most recent sporting events which is a nice addition. The food is about what you would expect from a a typical tavern. They have a nice selection of burgers, wraps, and sandwiches as well as more typical New England entrees like steak tips. For appetizers we have really liked the chicken wings (I forget the sauce we had in the photo), buffalo chicken dip, and buffalo chicken nachos. For dinner the prime rib special was very good and reasonably priced. The fireman, California, and bacon cheddar burgers are always cooked perfectly and very juicy. My wife loves the Santa Fe wrap. Drink prices are reasonable. Overall very good food at a reasonable price. We go back all the time. read more

My party of 5 tried to go here on a Saturday night. We understood there would be a wait, and the hostess told us it would be 20 minutes. We waited in the car for 30 minutes and then checked in on our status and was told the hostess was unsure how much longer it would be. We ended up waiting over 70 minutes and still never got in. In Boston for work and staying on the south side since it's much more reasonable. After trying a few other local places I stumbled upon this bar and grill. Wow. What a nice place. It isn't huge but probably seats 100 or so comfortably and has a nice warm feel to it. Tons of Tvs, windows all along the front and a nice sized bar that sits about 15 people on it. I was with some friends and we tried a few appetizers and I went with the fish and chips for dinner. Everything was good, beer cold and service pleasant. I will definitely come back. Updating from my previous review- new menu and they took off THE PANINI! (It was a basic tomato, mozz, basil panini, but oh so very delicious and I got it every time I came here...) They seem to have replaced it with a pulled pork panini and it is not good at all. I asked the waitress if they could make the old panini anyways and she checked with the kitchen and they said no. Every time I visit Southside Tavern I'm pleasantly surprised by the consistently high quality of their food. The menu is as expected for a pub/tavern, but it's well-executed. They've also done a great job during the pandemic with a great outdoor set-up during the summer! read more

Food is just OK- Ive tried a few options- nothing special. They have a full bar which is nice and a good atmosphere- not a dive bar. It looks and feels much nicer than the previous bars. The big windows in the front that open in the good weather were a much neeeded change- way to go 4D construction. The bar side gets very busy and its a small space so pretty hard to move around or find a seat- not such a great flow but im not sure that there are a lot of ways to fix that. They promote "specials" but they are hard to find/read up on the board. My major issue really was the noise level. It is sooo super loud in there. I don't know if its the metal-like celing tiles or the pitch of the roof or just the loud patrons but man is it loud in there. Not a place you could take a date. Another issue is that they don't seem to be very good at shutting people off. Seriously Ive been to the Southside four times since it opened and each time I have seen people who are way over the limit. Last time I went there was a female who everyone was talking about. She was hitting on tons of guys and annoying the bartenders. Everyone was talking but nobody shut her off- WTF? At one point she was out in the street. No really.... out in the street walking around and her purse was on the bar. I went and talked to our server (Tim I think, who is super nice) about the situation and asked him to take care of it. He in turn spoke to the bouncer and manager about her. Gues what happened..... nothing. When she came back in she went right back to her stool at the bar and continued drinking- what a piece of work. I'm sure I will end up at the Southside again whereas it seems to be the IN place to be now in Braintree and I'm sure it helps that the owners are nice local guys in their 30's (that why I origianally went in, support locals). I will make sure to be super careful leaving the bar whereas I feel that they over-pour. (First time we went, day 2 of being open, we were all pretty taken back at how many spelling mistakes there were on the menu- seriously so many. Southside tavern is the perfect place to go when you are looking to watch a game and have some drinks and apps. Their beer selection is awesome they have so much to choose from. So far I have had their steak tips, mac and cheese, and buffalo dip. All very delicious and the service was very attentive. I recommend sitting on the bar side. The atmosphere is nicer, there's more natural light and the tables are less squished together like on the dinning side. The only downfall is how loud it get! Do not go if you need to have a chat with someone, you will not hear a word they say. read more

Living in Braintree I've driven by the South Side Tavern at least a hundred times but never stopped in. Since I'm moving out of the area soon, I figured it was time to try some of the local places that I've missed, and I'm glad that I did. Parking was a bit of a chore as it seems to share it's lot with a few surrounding businesses, but the wait wasn't too bad, maybe three minutes or so. The Tavern itself was very busy on a Tuesday evening, even so, there was no wait for a party of two. After being seated our server promptly came to take our drink order and arrived quickly with our beverages. We ordered a few apps including the chicken quesadilla and calamari. The chicken quesadilla was prepared perfectly, being crispy yet unburnt, and with the right ratio of barbecue chicken and cheese. The calamari was also delicious, and you can clearly taste that they use fresh cooking oil on a regular basis. It made a simple dish much more flavorful. The dining room seating gets a little tight when it's very busy, and you can clearly hear the conversations of the adjoining patrons, even at regular speaking levels. We were seated no more than three feet from the people next to us. On top of the tight quarters, the tables around the perimeter of the dining room are pretty small. We barely had enough room to fit our beverages and appetizers along with the condiment station included on every table. There are many televisions throughout the tavern, most of which we're playing my favorite professional baseball team so I was perfectly content there. The establishment itself seemed to be clean and well-maintained, and our server was attentive (even though she was clearly very busy). I can see why this is a popular local destination. If you find yourself in the Braintree area, it's worth seeking out the Southside Tavern, although you'd be hard-pressed to miss it as it is located on a very busy intersection. read more

The sister bar to the Southside Quincy, this place has really turned into a great place for a drink and dinner. When it first opened, they had their usual problems like pricey food and customer's just getting used to a new bar. But it's actually turned into a good place to watch any game and go with friends. The food here is excellent. The brunch here is amazing. It really helps that there are bars in this area that are open for a Sunday brunch. Usually, the locals are stuck with less than a handful of decent sunday brunch places where you can get a Mimosa or Bloody Mary. The Eggs Benedict were awesome. The waffles and pancakes were great. I even ordered a Fruit and Yogurt Parfait, because why wouldn't I? The couple of times I've been here for dinner were great. Burgers were great and so was the pizzas. This place is really great for a date or just meeting up with friends. Just beware of the weird locals who may or may not want to show you their upper thigh tattoo out of the blue. South Side Tavern is pretty much our "go-to" on a Saturday/Sunday night when my boyfriend gets out of work. There's 2 reasons I decided thta NOW was the time to Yelp this place (and give it 5 stars)....1. UFO Pumpkin! Hello! This is my pumpkin beer of choice & South Side is the only place I've been able to find this ON TAP....maybe I'm going to the wrong places but some places that I've been able to get this beer in the past no longer had it this season. 2. Their Fireman Burger! (again..) Hot as hell w/ the jalapenos but so so so tastey. All of their food is really good here...buff chick nachos, their pizzas, their salads (huge! by the way) are some of my favs. but my boyfrand, who's a bruschetta addict, really likes theirs & their chicken parm. I've gone to this place quite a few times. If this review was only of their buffalo chicken dip, they'd get about 200 stars. I'm sure there has to be crack in it, because it's addictively good. I've also had a number of burgers there and they're always excellent. That might not seem like a big deal, but I like my burgers rare-to-medium rare and my girlfriend will only eat them if they're bordering on raw. I would say that the majority of the time we order burgers at other restaurants, they are very overcooked, often closer to well done than to rare. At Southside they're always cooked perfectly. It's really the little things that count. They also have an excellent craft beer selection and I've always found the staff helpful. Why four stars? I really don't like their french fries. I usually end up getting a salad with my burgers, because I dislike their french fries that much. It's not that they're frozen or low quality. They seem to be fresh cut. It might be the type of oil, or the size of the fry, but they just don't do it for me. I suspect most people wouldn't have this issue. At any rate, if you're in the Braintree area, it's definitely worth stopping in for. read more

I really should wait until I've tried other food from there and been there more than once, BUT, I need to rave about my lunch today. I'm a HUGE fan of salads of all kinds - unless it's a 'sadness' salad that is all iceberg and barely anything else. I'm not a rabbit, kthanxbai. Today, I ordered the cobb salad from Southside, because their menu description made it sound amazingly good. And for the first time in a long time, a salad has lived up to it's description. The greens are all fresh, the grape tomatoes are sliced for easy consuming, the egg is crumbled, the bacon is crispy, and the chicken is cooked to perfection. And to top it off, their honey mustard dressing is sweet with a good spicy aftertaste - unlike any I have had before, and I love it. I want to know if they make it themselves (and should probably ask). I ordered it for takeout, but would love to come back for a happy hour, because the interior seemed very inviting for a good after-work drink or two, and their appetizer menu sounds delicious. After being invited to the Patron distillery in Mexico and experiencing every type of patron, I consider myself a patron connoisseur. Enjoying my evening, I ordered my guests and I shots of Patron. The shots I was served WERE NOT Patron. After the dissatisfaction of receiving a drink that was not what I ordered, I spoke with the bartender. Rather than giving my guests and I new drinks, he was defensive and raised his voice. I am disgusted with the amount of disrespect I was shown after being served watered down, stale, liquor. This is definitely a case where I wish Yelp allowed 1/2 stars (needs to happen). 4 is a bit generous, and 3 stingy but my experience was good so we'll say 4. It's a slight step up from most local sports bars with lots of huge high-def tvs (not a bad view in the place) and a menu that has more than your typical burger/nacho/pizza options. The steak tips were great! Soo tasty and well cooked. My friend also really enjoyed his fish and chips. Service was ok. Sitting at the bar, we had to flag the bartender down a couple of times for refills on a not overly busy night. Bathroom was not the cleanest either. It was only 8 or so on a Thursday (not sure why it was so dirty) and this is a bit of a pet peeve for me. I've driven by here a million times and finally had the chance to stop in for a few pops and some food. Overall, the place itself is very good. Lots of big screen TV's, all playing different sports, so that's good. A couple of the TVs need replacing or I need an eye exam. Not bad, but something to consider at some point. I don't know where you live, but I'm surprised you didn't hear him. The tap beer selection of OK. I think they had like 5-6 choices. First time at Southside Tavern today at my friend's recommendation. On Sunday they have a brunch menu which featured items such as (not a complete list) peanut butter and fluff french toast, corned beef benedict and an over medium fried egg atop fried chicken w/biscuits with sausage gravy (sounds heavenly, but I'll take one bite and need a bypass) along with a limited lunch menu on the back. Service - I thought it was good. I wanted a brunch type of drink but not a bloody mary or mimosa so she suggested a bellini w/peach schnapps which they made light on the schnapps b/c I don't like 'sweet' drinks - it was so tasty I had two. We started w/the philly cheese steak egg rolls - I thought they were really good. I ordered the apple and goat cheese salad which has candied walnuts and craisins (I picked off 3/4 of them) w/a white balsamic vinaigrette. I added grilled chicken and enjoyed the salad very much. My friends had the PBF french toast and my other friend had a greek salad w/steak tips - both enjoyed their selections. I have to be honest. I wish I'd placed two orders of the philly cheese steak egg rolls for myself, driven home at break neck speed, and hidden myself away to eat them, not sharing. Guess it just means I have to go back.
