What a fantastic experience renting a car! I had a special discount rate through being a COSTCO member which was fantastic-no questions asked about the rate and the rental car agent was friendly and super cheerful and nice. The process was quick and I was not pressured to get any additional insurance or pre-pay gas which often happens to me with other companies. I walked across the street to the garage area where I handed my packet to another agent who brought me right over to a brand new SUV that was AWD (I was hoping for an all wheel drive car since I would be driving in the mountains of Lake Tahoe) and they were able to accommodate this request. we booked for 8-seat suburbans for RTO but they overbooked and only had 7-seat vans -- which felt like 6.5-seats. It was easier to drive, that's a +1 but it felt cramp with 6 people inside. Our pick up time was at 1PM and we didn't get our vehicle till about 2:30PM. The manager did apologized and adjusted our invoice. it looked like other people were having a similar experience, not just with this vendor but with other car rental vendors as well. We did get the vans and we made it through RTO with it :) When we returned the vans, we forgot one of our 21-QT cooler in the van, and that is our fault. I tried contacting them to try and get the cooler back -- but so far they are unable to find it. I talked to a lady on the phone, who was super nice and helpful, but because it was the weekend, the lost and found items have not been reported yet on their end. I reported the claim online as instructed --- 3 days later and nothing :( I tried calling the airport Lost & Found and I was able to talk to a person (1 time out of the 3-4 attempts I called) and the person put me on hold and never got back to me. I am still hoping that they will find it one of these days.... Don't be like us, triple-check your rental vehicles before you return them. read more

Great deal and even better service, from start to finish!! Used Costco travels rental car service and got into a Hyundai Tucson for less than $180 for a week, and though it didn't have all the bells and whistles, it did have all wheel drive and got 30+ MPG exploring Nevada along the loneliest road in America, Hwy 50! Visited Great Basin NP and so much more in the Silver State. Only thing I really missed was a moon roof!!&, Enjoy the road, see the world and treat the Earth and everyone on it with respect! Rented a Full Size SUV (Chevy Tahoe or similar) from November 11-13, 2022. After arriving in Reno on November 11, 2022 @ 7pm. I made my way down to the Alamo Counter where I was greeted quickly before I knew it I was on my way to pick up the SUV in the garage. Once I was in the garage I was greeted again by a younger gentleman who said he has a Jeep Wagoneer for me. I did ask if he happen to have a Tahoe or Expedition. The same dude said let me check. He went over to the enterprise booth and started checking on the computer but after 2 minutes he came back and said unfortunately there is none as they are sold out on Full Size SUV's. I thanked the dude and took the wagoneer. Once I saw the interior of the wagoneer I knew I was gonna love it. The Jeep had everything from heating/cooling seats to a heated steering wheel... but that's not it, it even had navigation, upgraded Alpine Audio System & much more (also the new car smell w/ only 400 miles on it. The Jeep was perfect for the 6 of us. We almost didn't want to give it back but we had to. On the day of return (November 13, 2022 @ 5:17am) I did make small talk with the return lady who said Reno is the only one with the wagoneer's. They only have 5 Wagoneer's & 1 Grand Wagoneer which is good to know, plus they just got them last week so I was one of the first 1 out of 6 to drive one of the Wagoneer's. read more

On my recent trip to Reno/ Lake Tahoe in October 2017, I opted to get a rental car. I used priceline.com and it spat out National rental car. The price was good. National car rental is pretty awesome for me during my travels with them across the USA in the last 7 or so years. However, although on this trip to Reno/Lake Tahoe, they gave me an assigned economy car instead of me choosing one of my liking in the lot. Maybe it's probably due to having just the one available that day. Oh well. Can't have it all, I guess. What's nice about this Reno / Lake Tahoe regional airport is that all of the rental car counters, including National, is here in one centralized place next to the baggage claim. Best part is that the car lot is across the street from the terminal, so you just need to walk across to pick up your car and drive out to go wherever you needed to go. For the most part though, I enjoyed this recent transaction and the time spent in Reno and Lake Tahoe. The service here was good, friendly, and professional. I was wearing my Miami Dolphins jacket and the agent made small talk about football during the check out. It was cute that he supports the Oakland Raiders. The overall experience from start to finish here at the National Car rental located at the Reno/Lake Tahoe regional airport was quite satisfactory. It was quicker than I anticipated, although many car rental transactions take 10 minutes to get and 5 minutes when you return. They require your state's valid driver's license as well as a valid major credit card, which is industry practice. They also ask if you're the only one driving. They probably charge more if you have multiple drivers, so ask before you sign off. Best bet would have one person drive the entire time, so there's no screw ups. For this transaction, I opted for the basic liability insurance coverage for the vehicle, because you never know what can happen on the roads these days. Cost for that is $22/day, I believe. For the most part though, this rental car transaction was smooth and had no problems with it or the car. I received a Nissan Versa for this trip to Lake Tahoe / Reno. The ride itself was clean and very much ran smoothly. Best bet is to look for the best deals online before arrival. I would use the base $20/day as a reference point and see if you can try to get it cheaper. I would recommend this rental car company, although I usually go with anyone who has the lowest rate possible for my itinerary. They do give good service and it made me happy that I didn't have to wait too long for a car. At least it was waiting for me, rather than waiting to have it serviced, washed, or whatever. I recently rented a car from Alamo rental car, make a long story short I ran out of gas after two days it was snowing sideways 15°. I had my dog Buster with me who is now sick because they told us it would be three hours and I couldn't wait so somebody stopped picked us up he happen to be going to Elko where they were supposed to tow my truck. So here we are Monday I come all the way back to Reno from Chico to see where my truck is because it's got about $1000 worth of stuff in it.They don't have my stuff they don't know where their car is come on they don't know where a rental car is after they've had 3 days it's a brand new Toyota Tacoma2020 how do you lose it.. when I got to the lot a few minutes ago a real cool guy had his follow him down to another storage area where we were supposed to be Get The items out of the truck don't get it what happened is that guy was so stressed out and he knew that that car had already been emptied out he said they probably made a new set of keys. I still have the set of keys now they made a new set of keys and took my stuff is that what you're trying to say. Alamo royally screwed up my SOs birthday... here's the story: We arrived in Tahoe for a ski vacation and I had reserved an economy car for a ski trip a few weeks in advance. Upon landing we learned they were going to be getting a few inches of snow. We strolled up to the counter and the gentleman at the counter was super cordial... this is where the screw ups started... We saw their winter storm warning and asked to upgrade to an SUV, the rep said there were no 4 wheel drive SUVs available, but that they did have a 4 wheel drive truck. We explained that wouldn't work given the luggage we had (skis and several suitcases) and begun discussing looking at other rental company options. The rep said we would be fine in the economy car and that it would only be a few inches of snow, as long as we weren't coming back on Saturday (we weren't). Reluctantly we agreed to take the economy car (with no chains mind you) up the mountain. First day easy peasy no problems car does great. Second day we park the car in Squaw parking lot and the snow starts! by the time we're off the mountain 8 inches has fallen and the crap really hits the fan. The car is undrivable, we spend 6 hours shoveling to get it out. Several times we call Alamo to assess our options and a rep from their roadside crew states it would be fine for us to abandon the car and they'll come pick it up ASAP at no charge (since nobody was expecting this storm). No roadside assistance teams through triple A or local towing companies will grab us because we do not have chains (Thanks Alamo)! We go buy chains. At this point a foot and a half of snow has fallen and we strike a deal with some plow folks to plow us out to the main road to get back to our condo. Success (albeit at 2AM and no thanks to Alamo). The next morning we call Alamo to assess options as another foot of snow has fallen and there is no getting this PoS car back to them and make our flight. They layout 3 options all of which are stated multiple times to be free of charge by Alamo's roadside reps: 1.) Tow ride along (they send tow truck we ride with tow truck). 2.) Lyft or Uber down the mountain and they'll reimburse us (which is also what the rep the night before told us) 3.) Try and drive the car down the mountain. (it was a state of emergency and no cars that weren't 4 wheel drive were "legal"... still perfectly cool with Alamo if we attempted this though!) Option 1 made the most sense to us as it at least got the car back to them. We chose that. Alamo sends us a cool link to show where the Tow-truck is en route to us... an hour goes by... tow truck hasn't moved. Call Alamo, Tow Truck still coming! Sorry for the delay!... wait another hour... Tow truck moves but is going the wrong way. Call Alamo... Tow Truck is delayed! But it's still coming, you'll definitely make your flight at x time... An hour more passes, Triple A calls us and says on behalf of Alamo... sooooorrrry about this but we're not coming to get you. We won't be able to get up there until Tuesday. Alamo then calls us and tells us the tow truck is still on the way... we inform them that it in fact isn't. They say grab a lyft. We do! We get to the airport, chat with Darin the location manager. Super cool dude, offers to write up the entire experience and work on getting us the refund for the Lyft and maybe even the chains. Jump on the flight and get home. 3 days later get a call from location manager Fabiano. Fabiano is a few pistons short of an engine and insanely rude. He says in no uncertain terms that I'm a moron for taking a 2 wheel drive car into 3 feet of snow and that I'm lucky they're not charging me for the extra days it's taken them to get that car back and the tow itself. They are not in the business of reimbursing Lyft rides and I should expect to get precisely none of that money back. It's one thing to be delivered bad news contradictory to everything you've heard from a company prior... it's quite another to get that news from a human being (using that term loosely) who would be better suited buried deep in a mine somewhere where he and his moronic friends can make fart jokes together. Hang up on him as he and I become increasingly belligerent. We have just lost cabin pressure... Write email to Hannah the Grand Poobah of managers for this location. He calls me 4 days later. At least this guy can string sentences together that aren't insulting outright... however the content is the same. They're not reimbursing any of it and I should be grateful they aren't charging me for all these days the car has been missing (yeah that's right... these incompetent schmucks still haven't gotten the car a week and a half later despite me telling every level of this company exact GPS coordinates and an address for where it is. Basically... do yourself a giant favor and take your money literally anywhere else. These clowns should be out of business. read more

Shocking service in Alamo. Would absolutely recommend giving them a seriously wide berth. We booked online in the morning and rocked up to the airport ready to collect the car. When we arrived, there was a huge line of customers. Bummer but no worries, happy to wait and not the staff member's fault if a lot of people had come along at the same time. Once there's a car for us at the end of it... Can you predict the twist in the tale? Yup, no car. They had overbooked and in actual fact, had no cars for anyone in the line. Hence the giant wait as everyone was as frustrated as each other. To be fair to the staff member in question, she was clearly stressed due to the circumstance. However, and this is a major however, she was rude to the point that I ended up asking her to speak to her manager instead as it was like talking to a brick wall. In simple terms, we had ordered a car, it was not there to collect. She suggested that we go to one of the other car hire companies to hire one from them instead. I explained that we had paid (through a third party) for a car with Alamo, and asked if we be refunded. She said she didn't know. (Her stock answer that morning). Eventually she said we'd have to email the third party and tell them that we didn't pick up the car at Alamo and get them to sort it out. I asked her if we could get a letter or similar from her to prove to the third party that we never picked up the car. She said no. I asked her how would they know if we indeed never picked up the car. She said they wouldn't. Thanks! Helpful! The thing is, I get when things don't always go right and there are unforeseen issues. However, it's then the brunt of the company to try and rectify the situation. If it's not rectifiable, is recommending rival companies the best course of plan? Or essentially telling you that they are unsure as to whether or not you will be refunded your money you paid for a non-existent service? Avoid. read more

So, immediately walked over to the terminal and turned in the keys to the Alamo person at the desk. They ended up noting the check-in time was 4am and billed me for one extra day. When you double your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do. That kind of sums up how I feel about this place - the service was pretty kind, but the execution was just all bad. At the rental counter, the lady who was helping us was pretty friendly, and the paperwork went smoothly. Once we got out into the parking lot though, it was Armageddon. The way the cars were parked here had about as much order as a 2-year old's Hot Wheels toy box. We had a Dodge Charger with rear wheel drive, which, in the blizzard that hit Tahoe on President's Day weekend, was about as useful Vaseline on a climbing wall. The SUVs were prohibitively more expensive, but they could have given us the option of front wheel drive. God knows there were a ton of cars in the parking lot. read more

Alamo.... or Enterprise? A friendly young lady in an Enterprise uniform asks if I need any help as I'm standing at the vacant Alamo desk. After showing my conformation papers she says my Dodge Crossover was given away, as we were four hours late for our scheduled pick-up. As all good sales people do.... she calls the garage if theres anything similar in stock, and lo and behold there was a Jeep four wheel drive that was just returned, so if we didn't mind waiting around in the terminal for maybe 15 minutes while they clean and wash and fill up our ride for the duration we could have that instead..... at the same price. Okay, so what was I supposed to say? Two super positives came out of this: #1, Our party of four, with all our luggage, boards and skis would never have fit in a Crossover. We had to put down part of the back seat just to fit all our junk. #2, As our Jeep has all wheel drive, we didn't need to stop to put on chains for our daily treks up to Sierra. Couldn't help but feel sorry for the people on the sides of the road in the cold, wrestling with chains. No problems at the pick-up, no problems on the return, just a whole lotta fun in between! 6 Days at $363.00, for a full sized Jeep four wheel drive, split between 2 couples, I'd say that was a worth while mode of transportation. Now I have 1 year to watch for rental deals from Alamo / Enterprise for next February. read more

Pretty unhappy with recent rental out of Reno Int'l Airport. Agent inside the airport assured me the 2020 AWD Equinox would have snow tires. It did not. It had only 4200 miles on it but I got a flat tire. As I did not purchase the optional road assistance package, the operator at the time told me it would be $55.00 charge to have someone come and fix the flat tire. AND it could be up to four hours wait time. I used my own AAA coverage and they came within 20 minutes, told me those were not snow tires. Even in AWD mode the traction really sucked on the snow covered roads in the mountains of Truckee. There was no manual in the glove box, so I was not sure I was utilizing the AWD mode correctly. I drove to a tire store after AAA installed the 'donut tire' because the AAA guy said it would not be wise to travel down the mountain to Reno with the donut tire as it could cause poor traction. As the 'idiot light' on the dashboard stayed lit even after the spare was installed, and again, I had no operating manual, I decided to pay the $20 to get the original tire patched and installed, which took 2 hours. At the tire shop, the guy told me that if I had rented from Enterprise they would have patched and replaced the tire for free. Next time I will rent from Enterprise. read more

People there are nice. The biggest problem was that the company overbooked for 7/2. When we arrived after 9 pm, there were no car to rent out. There were at least 4 groups of people before us with no cars. We booked via priceline days ago and prepayed. It was a huge surprise for us. We did get to get a rental car the morning of the 2nd day. They offered to reimburse the cab fare to and from hotel (within $100) and they also would credit back one day of rental. This was all done verbally. We were told that the check would be in the mail. Alamo has sent me several emails asking me to post a review on Yelp, so here it is. At the time I made my reservation for this rental at Reno Airport, the base rate for my full-size car was approximately $11/day, so renting from Alamo was a logical choice. I also have rented from them at this location before and have not had any negative issues. Despite my reservation for a full size car, I had to wait 20 minutes for them to prepare the car when I declined the "complimentary upgrade" to an SUV. After I arrived at my destination (30 miles away), I discovered that the car did not have an ice scraper in it. With snow in the forecast, this was a major inconvenience and had me ask the rhetorical question, "How can you rent a car in the Lake Tahoe area in winter that doesn't have an ice scraper in it?" My rental reservation was for three days, and unfortunately, my trip needed to be extended. I called Alamo to see about extending my reservation and was told that it would be an extra $100 per day! I asked what would happen if I did not return the car on time and was told that beyond 2 1/2 hours, I would be charged "whatever the prevailing rate is at that time." Hearing this, I went online and secured an additional reservation, at $23/day and then tried to link the reservations. Alamo corporate told me that they could not help me, unless I was willing to pay the extra $100/day. They did, however, suggest that I call the location at Reno Airport, as they said the manager has leeway to override their system. I also had received a generic email from the Reno Airport location's manager, saying I should call him if I needed anything, so I decided to call and speak with him and see if he could help. When I called the location, at first I was put on hold and was disconnected after waiting over 10 minutes. I called back several times, and my calls went to voicemail. I left a few messages (and didn't leave several more), and it took them about three (3) hours to call me back, and I never did get to speak with the manager. The woman with whom I spoke said that they could not link my reservations without my coming into the location (approximately 30 miles each way) and that keeping the car would be the extra $100/day. She was unwilling to do anything to help solve my problem. Ultimately, I realized they wanted their car a lot more than I did. Since I had to go to back to the airport (in the middle of my trip) anyway, I returned the car a day early and made other arrangements. This was an extremely frustrating experience, leading me to say, "Meh. I've experienced better" -- both from Alamo and from this location. read more

Don't be sucked in by their cheaper prices. Reserved a car here weeks in advance only to arrive and have them tell the 10 people in line with reservations they had no cars. After talking to customer service we found out they were actually 70 cars short. They overbook to an irresponsible degree and I will never use Alamo again. We had to book with another company last minute which was super expensive. They didn't even offer anything like a future discount because of their mess up. What terrible customer service. read more

Rented a standard SUV in May for a trip to Yosemite after speaking with the front desk agent regarding which option would include 4x4 (it was still snowing in the Sierras--better to be safe than sorry!). When I arrived to pick it up, I was informed the class I selected did NOT have any 4x4's available, so the nice agent upgraded me to a higher class SUV for a minimal additional charge (I'm talking, like, $12 for three days). Ended up with a brand new Durango, FlexFuel, with only 3,000 miles on the odometer. Aside from the service, I was also happy to find out, since I booked via the "Pay Now" online, I wouldn't have a hold placed on my credit card (other rental companies LOVE to do this!) for any additional amount over the rental fee. I really couldn't have asked for much more! The only thing I will mention is, like other Alamo locations, you can only book "Pay Now" with a credit card--they will not honor a debit card reservation. All in all, I had a great rental experience and will be back again this weekend for another out-of-towner! read more

I often use Avis for business travel, but Alamo had the much better deal in Tahoe -- still I am spolied by the Avis service which you cant beat. Here you have to pick up your car at the counter, one guy ahead of me had an issue which took up 2 or more agents for 15 minutes ???? BAD. My checkout took just 5 min max after that -- and then there were like 5 Alamo people outside with the cars (someone else should have come in to deal with the issue so we didnt all have to wait the extra 10 minutes for no good reason. Not sure why the checkout fumble on Aug 29th at like 6pm, but there no good excuse when others are around -- better to make to one customer with the issue stand aside and have the 'manager' (or anyone else) come deal with them, get everyone else out the door faster. I turned in my car this past Saturday July 10 before 9pm which is when it was due. The Alamo rep in the parking garage told me to put the keys in the dropbox. I received a receipt the next day where they charged me an additional $127, saying I drove the car 3 hours longer than was allowed. Lucky to not have a line when we got to baggage claim, so I walked over to get the car I had reserved online. Nice that their all in a garage across the street. Our car was a newish Camry (only about 2k miles) which was fine for us since it wasn't too snowy and we didn't have ski gear. They tried to upsell me on an SUV and there were a ton of Tahoes and Explorers around, but this vehicle was right for our trip. Returning the car for us went very smoothly because we were the only car that pulled up during that time. I can only imagine if 5 or 6 cars showed up at once, though, because the return area is pretty cramped and most people are going to have a ton of stuff to unload during ski season. read more

This is only the second time we have used Alamo in the Reno Airport, but both times have been great experiences. Tonight we had Carolyn as our customer service representative and she made the process quick and easy while providing ample entertaining conversation. She was extremely friendly and personable. I had a really positive experience at this rental location. Admittedly, it wasn't busy at all in the terminal, but that staff was quick to service me and even upgraded my car free of charge. Walking distance from terminal to garage was short and there was good signage and plenty of Alamo staff along the way to assist, if needed. One staff member even took my bags and loaded them into my rental car for me. That is service, people! read more

At small airports it turns out you don't have to take a shuttle to the car rental facilities. Sucks for me because I'm looking all around the for the shuttle to Alamo.. Whoops my fault. They didn't have much selection and I got stuck with a 35k mile old Dodge Charger. Some of the plastic work inside the wheel well was torn off and the inside of the car smelled bad (like vomit) and was dirty. I noticed the smell when I got in the car, too bad I didn't get nauseated by it till the car warmed up and we were well down the road. The rest of the vacation it bothered me so much I cleaned the car myself. Including the steering wheel that was oddly sticky. The wind shield wiper fluid was gone too. Next time I won't be in such a hurry and will really check the car out before leaving the garage. They are getting 3 stars because on the return I forgot to fill up. Hearing that I was going to run up to the gas station to fill up the attendant instead offered to charge me very reasonably for fuel and we were able to make our flight on time. read more

Great service! It took a little while to get my car though mostly because there are so many people getting cars here. It's easy, convenient and they gave me a great clean car. I had a great time road tripping by myself for the day and the car was my wonderful companion. Drop off is very convenient - just across the street from the airport! Just remember to fill up your tank before returning. read more
