Not sure if the new group boarding benefits customers and has it improved the boarding process. Still need to set alarm 23:58 minutes prior to the check in time to check in within the 24 hours timeline without paying xtra for assigned seat. Plane was full and the system selected my boarding group 8 (the last group) but sat in the extra leg room section. On flight back same process but was selected into group 4 front seat again xtra room leg with better snacks lol One pet peep- not enough over hang space. When I got to my seat, overhang storage was full all around and need to place luggages few rows back. Just a pain trying to get your luggages when leaving. Hope the new system can be more efficient. read more

I have flown Southwest for business literally every week since 2004 and have been a raving fan, of the company, and A-List Preferred for years. This change to the seating and boarding process has been HORRIBLE! Who was the stupid MBA Student that came up with this? Southwest used to be efficient and now carrying on bags means you have to walk past your seat to find any overhead space then walk back up to your seat, meaning when you're getting off you have to try to race back to your bag or rely on the kindness of 15 other passengers to fireman line your bag back up to you. I love Southwest Airlines! I know, you have to line up like a herd but everyone is pretty equal, which is nice. I hear that is going away, we'll see what happens. The seating is comfortable and there is actually space in the seating. I never thought that until I recently took a United flight, OMG! I was in a seat where my chest was literally two inches from the seat back in front of me. Crazy! I'll never leave Southwest again! The Southwest staff on the planes are amazing! Everything... after the change, it has become the worst airline to fly, half the plane is empty and it takes longer to board and deplane, service sucks, you use turbulence to not have any service on short flights and there's not a cloud or bump on the sky. You really cannot choose your seat without paying for it and you stick all people together in the back, not a fan anymore, will avoid your company as much as I can. This review is not to reflect one specific city, however as a company in whole. Flight 4230 Due to inclement weather on day of our flight, many flights were cancelled and rescheduled, including ours. No big deal. We easily rescheduled for a different flight heading out same day. Flight boarded at 5:20pm. After sitting on the runway about an hour, we started to take off. Within 10 min, Pilot announced that we had to turn back to refuel because of rerouting and needing more fuel to get through the longer duration of flight. No biggie. I am okay with that. Flight attendants begin to announce that some people will miss their connections and had to make new arrangements. At one point, guests going to TN were told that they could switch flights and get their luggage the next day, however overnight stays would be on them. Since when?! Weather was not a direct factor in our delay. The flight attendant wasn't even friendly or empathetic towards passengers who had to immediately make a choice about their flight. The guy sitting next to me had gotten up while the flight was refueling, which I had assumed was to use the restroom. He appeared to be a Southwest employee because his polo shirt had the SW logo and he had a SW lanyard on . He was gone almost the entire time that we were refueling. When he came back to the seat next to me, he had a can of water and pockets stuffed with airline snacks. Was he the only one hungry and thirsty after sitting on the hot plane for two hours? This inconsiderate entitlement is what really got me. But then.... when we finally got up in the air around 7ish. I waited patiently for my beverage and snacks. Pretzels were passed out. I have celiac disease, so I asked attendant if she had any gluten free snacks. She stated that they did not have any gluten free snacks. Did I mention that on my way to my vacation I was served gluten free cookies made by Siete. I was extremely impressed to be given them as I know it as a well know gluten free brand. Needless to say, I asked the attendant about the cookies. She said, "oh, the green bags...I only have a limited amount of those for the people sitting up front." Really? I understand it is something special for the extra leg room people, however, if you have a guest with an allergy, can you not spare one pack of cookies?? Let me remind you that we had just sat on the runway for 2 hours and still had 2.5 hours to go of our flight. Come on people, one pack of cookies, really? I would also like to mention that I am returning from a cruise vacation where service was top notch. Not a single thing went needed or wanted. Southwest Airlines really needs to take heed on what top notch service is about. Just before this trip, my husband signed up for the SW credit card because of upcoming travels. I am disappointed Southwest and not sure that I want to build rewards with your flights. Not because I needed a snack, but because it is the outstanding service that I look for in a company. Part 2....when flight arrived, I immediately received a text message stating that our connector to San Diego would be missed and they cancelled a flight. We went to the desk to deal with our situation. Extremely disappointed to learn that we would not be compensated for ANYTHING! Not hotel or meals. And we could not get our luggage so we didn't have any toiletries. This has happened to us in the past with another airlines and we were given a card package with toothbrush, etc. Southwest. you are trying to cover yourself with the excuse of weather related factors, however, weather was not a direct cause of our delay. Actually, the employees with the loaded pockets of snacks who sat next to us had even told my husband that we should be able to get coverage on the hotel because weather was not a direct factor. I arrived at SNA for a trip to Oakland very early to the airport. I saw my flight was delayed but a flight to SF was boarding right then. I thought maybe SW will allow me to get on that flight if a seat was available. I didn't expect it to work but the woman working the counter said nothing more but nope just boarded the last seat (which I saw the person walk in and the line of people were still lined up to get on the plane). No smile, no explanation, just a bitchy angry woman. I see their rating is already bad so others have had similar experiences. This was at 12:40 on June 25th gate 20. There was a really rude flight attendant named Roxanne on my flight. Dismissed me when I asked her a question and told me to sit down that someone was trying to get through. Then when she finally did answer my question on whether it was a full flight and whether me and my daughter could have the last row, she said yes. Somebody came to try and sit with us and I informed her my daughter would have to get up and pee a lot. She said I don't think that's gonna be the case. This flight is only an hour and I said you'll see for yourself. Her demeanor and her attitude was just being rude. Left a bitter taste in my mouth about Southwest Airlines. read more

This was one of the most unorganized airline experiences I've ever had. The gate crew took their time boarding us onto a flight that was already supposed to be in the air. Because of the delay, we ended up missing our takeoff slot and had to sit on the runway for 45 minutes. Extremely frustrating and a total waste of time. Unilaterally makes decisions that screw passengers with no compensation. We purchased a direct flight with assigned seats and they unilaterally switched us to an indirect flight that took twice as long with no assigned seats without notice and with no compensation. This is called "bait and switch" and should be illegal. Their customer service is also very poor. Can't get a human being on the line to discuss customer reimbursements, credits, or refunds. I purchased a flight early so I can make it on time to go to work. Flight #2046 on 9/15/25 was delayed. We all had to get off the airplane to get on another. Flight was suppose to leave at 7am to arrive at 8:05am. It was over 3 hours delay which on the terms on Southwest your entitled to request a full refund which I did & was denied. I missed work because of this delayed as others did too. Southwest didn't even bother to give out food vouchers. Southwest wasn't concerned on everyone missing work or connections. My go to airline when I am flying to Anaheim. I usually fly either on the red eye or first one out. The flight attendants are always welcoming, friendly and at times funny. When I go to the D23 expo I have one carry on going there but always 2 checked in bags going home, all for the same price I paid for. If you buy a ticket early enough or during a promo it can be a "steal". I try my best to "check in " 24 hours before the flight so I can be in line with the "A" group but with SNA I can be in group "B" . The free entertainment and text messages on my mobile device are included in the price as long as the wifi works in the plane. The plane is fairly clean and so are the restrooms. My flights are always short and rarely delayed. read more

Pretty great! I got a low cost fare RT to Nashville. My first time flying with Southwest. If you agree to get their credit card, they offer a $200 credit. With the airfare at $217, net with $200 credit, $69 annual fee, the trip cost $86. An amazing deal. 2 pcs of luggage, 50lbs each is free. Carry on is free. Personal item is free. Free seating, and only order is boarding pass (you can do check in 24 hrs b4 your flight) or pay for early bird check in rights. I had the honor of sitting in Row 1 bc someone was traveling with a doggie. Lotsa leg room but no tray tables. And everything has to be stowed away during take off and landing. I didn't mind at all. Drinks were provided. They don't usually give refills on a 3 hr 20 min flight but the stewardess was nice. Got full cans of cranberry and water. Snacks were good. Pretzel like party snack and then brownie brittle (the best!). You can bring your own food. And if you are diabetic, your own liquids. A very good experience over all. Only downer was picking up at baggage claim. They said go to carousel 1, then they said 2 and then they sent us back to 1. Other than that, service was super friendly. The plane was relatively warm / comfortable. Bare bones, but reflected in the price. SO WORTH IT! I am a fan of Southwest! read more

It's so unacceptable that when you can't use the Kiosk to print your bad tag they will not help you at Bag Drop! There were five staff and no one in line instead they make you go to full service where there's two staff and a dozen people in line! The agent at full service was very helpful but it's ridiculous that they only had two staff, not there fault. read more

I am currently on a flight to Nashville. My itinerary was from Orange County with a stop and change planes to fly to Philadelphia. At Orange County this morning they told us the plane would stop in Phoenix to refill and then take off and go to Nashville and that we would all make our next legs. They said we would be in Phoenix no longer than 10 minutes. This is what they said over the loudspeaker. Everyone got on. when we got to Phoenix they forced half the flight off and told them they were rebooking them out of Phoenix. I dont know what happened to those people. We were in Phoenix for about 1.5 hours. We are now on our way to Nashville and Ive been told by text that we will now be routed to Chicago this evening at 8 PM and will fly out to Philadelphia at 8AM tomorrow. I am also told we have to book our own hotel and that they will not cover it because they say this is weather related. The woman at the Southwest terminal lied to everyone and got us on the plane, now we are stuck. If they had been honest I could have gone home and rebooked for the next day. Instead I have to pay for a hotel in Chicago. I also am loosing a night at my $300 a night hotel in Philadelphia with no way to get that money back and it is going to cost me $75 to rebook my rental car and they have increased the price by $100. Im guessing I can get a reasonable rental in Chicago for $250. All in all Im out at least $725 in out of pocket expenses due to the lie that was told to all of us at the gate. Shameful display by Southwest, absolutely shameful. This is flight WN6307 OC to Nashville 08/23/2025. Whoever that woman was running the microphone at the Santa Ana airport should be reprimanded. Though this airline is first come first serve, and can result in needing to check a bag or seat away from your party, it is worth the savings from other airlines. In addition to the savings per ticket, the flight attendants tend to be down to earth and friendly. I'm not a fan of the super proper, posh flight attendants and love that they have humor in the safety instructions or announcements in the airport. My choice airline! read more

I saved up to buy 4th row tickets to this concert! I took two days off of work for the trip. I've been looking forward to this show for months! I got to the airport and checked by 9am for my noon flight. My flight was cancelled several times, I sat at the airport for 7 hours! After the second flight delay, I went to the customer service counter and asked if I could be put on another flight and the representative rudely said no, that all flights to Denver were delayed. I told them how urgent it was that I get Denver by 6pm becasue of the show, they just said there was nothing they could do. 30min later the couple sitting next to me said that her husband spoke to customer service and they booked them on another flight, so I don't understand why they couldn't do that for me! After several flight delays, minimal updates our flight was finally given the green light to depart at 5:17pm, which would mean I would arrive to DEnver at 8:37pm. My concert started at 7pm. I was going to miss my show! After I landed in DEN, I jumped into an uber and tried my best to make the show, unfortunately I missed it! I was heartbroken, my trip ruined and money wasted! I lost money on the flight, 2 work days and the cost of the concert tickets! Don't trust Southwest Airlines! Take another carrier!!! I've been on very few SWA flights that departed "on time" so when I show up 10 mins before the scheduled departure time for an earlier flight than my scheduled flight to find a closed door for a flight that is not full it's a bit frustrating. I am a far cry from reaching my goal of reviewing every Southwest Airlines in every city I fly. This is a goal for 2020 to complete because my experiences are positive and I want to share. This review is for John Wayne International. I choose Southwest pretty much exclusively if I can. The number one reason is they are most often on time. However a close second is that they are a company with a big heart. The staff from check in to flight crew are some of the best! Have I had mediocre experiences, well yes but it's uncommon. Also they often come in with excellent pricing. Finally the two bags fly free can't be beat. My two experiences flying in and out of Orange County was very good. No hiccups on arrival or departure. I do recall a very steep climb on departure that the pilot warned us would occur. This is due to the area having one of the most stringent noise regulations in the country. Southwest does things differently and they pride themselves on being a unique caring airline. I think the extra attention provided by the desk agent is indicative of the overall customer oriented culture. read more

I've been flying with Southwest for over 20 years and have never experienced anything like this. On my return flight from Baltimore, they pulled out a measuring tape, measured my suitcase, and claimed it was 63 inches--just one inch over the 62-inch limit. They charged me $200 for the oversize bag, even though I used the exact same suitcase on the way to Baltimore with no issues at all. I even offered to break off the wheels to make it fit, but they threatened to leave me off the flight if I kept arguing. After this experience, I'll seriously be looking at other airline options moving forward. read more

I don't know why but some of their very regular and close flights (I'm taking OC to Vegas or OC to San Jose) have been super booked 100% lately and either have a connecting flight where next destination are on flight, a lay over or don't have very many time slots available for a direct flight. You can def see how they want to book solid and don't care about the customer's time to their destination. In my opinion they are missing out on a lot of revenue because I specifically choose to book if a direct flight only and since they're all "sold out" due to the connecting flights to two destinations I've ended up taking other means of transportation to save myself MONEY=TIME.
