I flew American Airlines from LAX To MCO in July 2026. The check in process via the app was easy and super helpful. Did not have to wait a tremendous amount of time to check in my bag. Also, the service was quick to retrieve my bags at the end of the flight I flew first class for a morning 7 AM flight and the breakfast options were decent for a flight. They gave the option of the breakfast salmon or frittata I chose the frittata and it was pretty good. I was happy with my choice. The staff on board were very friendly and I will def use American again. No delays on my flights. read more

We were pushing back from the gate at Phoenix when the pilot alerted us that there was a major hydraulic leak and we needed to deplane and wait for another plane. You're telling me that they only do safety checks until the last minute?? WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE AIR WITHOUT A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM AND POSSIBLY DIED DUE TO THE AIRLINE'S NEGLIGENCE. So instead of killing us, we had to deplane and wait over 3 hours for a replacement plane, which meant we reached our destination at 3am. And all they offered customers for almost killing us was a $12 food voucher. This airline needs to be shut down because they cannot ensure the safety of its customers. Was at Orange County Airport today for a flight from OC to Fort Worth. Showed up 2.5 hours early. I went to the counter where four American Airlines employees were standing and asked a question about getting on an earlier flight. Sadly one of the women immediately screeched that I cannot get on an earlier flight and at the exact same time another horrible creature said "go on the app". I thought this odd as they were relaying differing information. I have never done a standby flight but was shocked at the level of angst and disgust that any customer would ask a question. I guess they are so used to being insulated from answering questions that the mere idea that they'd have to help someone sent them off the edge. I remember a time when customer care gave care. The flight I was inquiring wasn't boarding for another hour and there was no one in line at the time of my inquiry. The people at the desk prior to boarding were just plain rude. Unfortunately I will not fly American Airlines again after returning from South africa to Dallas Ft worth. DFW had air traffic control issues since September 18 and our plane from Heathrow was diverted earlier to Austin. However instead of putting us on another flight from Austin we got sent back to Dallas and had our flight canceled. Long story short AA did not offer us a hotel overnight when we could not leave Dallas for two days. Luckily I was close to my connection gate at ORD, so I made it, albeit the door gate was closed (shockingly they opened it - door on plane wasn't closed) but still.... They opened gate door for me! (Nice job ORD) But luggage didn't make it. But.... It will be delivered to hotel in AM. And they gave me this toiletry bag. I joked about needing a toothbrush and they pulled out this nice bag. Had everything I needed in it! And the bag itself is good enough to keep! Luggage didn't make it but nice job American to offer this! You just have to ask! Service a 5. Baggage not making it a 2. I purchased a round trip ticket in January, 2026 for a flight from Santa Ana to PHX then on to San Antonio, TX. I chose aisle seats on both flights. I was returning home on January 27th and I started receiving texts from AA before my flight stating there was a delay. After 3 texts stating delays, they said my flight was cancelled. I was re-booked on January 28th with a flight that went through DFW then instead of Santa Ana, I would arrive at LAX! I started calling the AA CS line and asked for a callback as it was a 2 hour wait time. While I was waiting, I called AA reservation line. I was told by one person that "we don't fly through PHX (not true) and when I asked to speak to a manager the agent hung up on me. Six hours later I received a call from an AA CS agent who apologized for all of issues and said I would receive a refund. He did not have any flights going through PHX and tried to book me through DFW. I told him why AA would send me there as DFW was experiencing weather issues with delays and folks having to stay over. He rebooked me anyway through DFW then arrive LAX. I started receiving texts with delays then a text stating I would miss my next flight so re-booked for January 29th. I called AACS again the evening of the 28th and spoke with a lady who said she could get me a flight on January 29th going through PHX and on to Santa Ana, and left at 06:00 AM. I took this flight but I had to sit in the middle seat as no aisle seats were available. this flight was also delayed. This 2 day delay caused me time, money and frustration. When I got home, I read the email that AA sent to me about how to get a refund. I followed the instructions and a few days later received a response stating I did not qualify for a refund. I responded and asked to send my request on to a manager. After a week, I received another email from another AACS person stating the same thing. I then sent a certified letter with my issues/concerns to David Seymour, Chief Operating Officer. I was requesting a refund on my return flight only and the money spend for my luggage. I received an email response 8 days later from a CS rep. stating I did not meet the requirements for a refund. She said they would "consider" refunding any monies for food, hotel etc. but I had to send itemized receipts along with other hoops to jump through. This email is what I expected as AA used to be a quality airline, but I will never fly with them again. I am also telling everyone I know not to fly with AA. Other rating scores from Trust Pilot, Air Advisor and Sky Trax rate AA from 1.5 out of 5 to 2 out of 5. Even the AA flight attendants were on strike for a no-confidence in Robert Isom CEO in Feb 2026, citing poor operational performance. Also, citing no pay raises since 2019. Mr. Isom needs to take a few notes from Robert Crandell CEO from 1985 to 1973. AA was the premier airline to fly. As we say, "the good old days"! read more

I've read the complaints before. Rude AA gate staff. Arbitrary policies. But it had never happened to me, so I was always a bit bemused by them. But now it has! Perhaps I'm finally a true AA passenger who has finally enjoyed the true AA experience. I was boarding (early group) when an AA gate agent decided that my bag wouldn't fit as a carry on. Now this is a bag that's sold as cabin luggage, and I've used it as cabin luggage on many prior flights. (Mostly AA). Including the flight into SNA on the very same plane I was flying out on!!! But she insisted. So gate checked it went. Unfortunately I couldn't prove the bag was properly sized as the gates were changed and we were flying from a gate normally assigned to Alaska. Imagine my joy when my flight takes off and many of the bins are half empty or stuffed with coats. Like many of us, I take a carry on as I need to travel with sensitive work items that cannot be easily replaced. To make people check bags that fit all the dimensions of carry on luggage is bad enough, but her outright rude, unprofessional, dismissive, power tripping, arbitrary attitude really wasn't appreciated. So now you get to hold again indefinitely. Then the phone line goes dead. It never changes. Then if you do get someone on the line, their incredibly lazy and offer nothing but resistance to your needs. You have to babysit them every step of the way. I tell them I want a ticket to Saigon out of LAX anytime after 1/15/24 FIRST CLASS OR BUSINESS Their computer system is so primitive that it cannot search for next available ticket, it must be searched day by day. Every time you call bullshit on their rigged system, suddenly they won't talk to you anymore, you've hurt their feelings with your foul language. They always are pushing you to use the app, which is another way of saying do it yourself. Then finally, you do learn to use the app and it's another piece of shit.. You will spend countless hours searching , then finally you will find what you're looking for, click on it, it hesitates for a moment, then tells you "our system is having trouble" or "Choose a different flight or fare" How convenient for the airline.. this has happened countless times, hundreds. I will NEVER fly American again. On my way to DC from SNA, I was bumped from my first flight due to some plane batter issue, waited another 2 hours to leave and then in ORD at stop over, after waiting 3 hours for my connection, was informed the flight was then going to be delayed for 4 more hours due to some pilot issue. I raised the issue with customer service and they put me on a United flight. Total travel time was 14 hours and all they offered was a meal voucher. On the way home, I was turned around at security because I had cue sticks, which are a listed item but I was not aware. I went back to the agent at DCA and she said to just go to the south security, which then also turned me away. They are $800 cues so I was not going to ditch them but then missed my first flight for an issue the agent knew about. I waited then 2 hours for the first standby and was too far down the list. I waited again and again didn't get on. I looked at the list of flights and saw that there was no way in hell I would ever make it on any American flight, probably because they grossly overbook. So again, I had to turn to United to save my butt. However, this time I had to pay and the one way was the same price as the American round trip because it was same day. American said they couldn't do anything because they said I was late but that was only because I was given bad advice on the cues. The flight back ended up resulting in a 18 hour travel time. Total round trip from SNA to DC travel time of 32 hours!!! Ridiculous. Plus I have not received anything in return. I am currently seeking a refund but we will see if that happens.. my guess is not. I used Amex Travel to book and they were also useless even though I am a platinum card holder. I'll be cancelling that card as well. If you use this airline for an inward flight you will be required to obtain an in transit visa at a cost of $550 for a duration of 3.5 hours only. even if you're a green card holder or permanent resident in the United State, you still have to pay that exorbitant amount. When a white racist lady that works for AA counter screamed at him and threw his Mexican passport across the counter after waiting 35 min in line! I hadn't flown AA in over a decade, but there are a couple things that I have noticed changed. The tickets may be cheaper online as you're booking, but that's if you don't choose to pick your seats. If you do want to pick them, it'll cost you more than the price of another airline. Another thing is that there is no meal offered, even on a long 5 hour flight. If there was a ZERO star I would give it to them. We bought our tickets months in advance, we flew to Nashvile from John Wayne OC airport. We paid extra to fly out of there instead of LAX. On our flight back they canceled a bunch of flights. They literally had some of us flying out one day later and my son with his wife and newborn 2 days later. I paid for their trip do to them not being financially able to at this time. How in the heck would they be a able to afford a hotel, food and what ever else for two more days because AA canceled our flight. I decided to go complain at AA complain desk, and the nice lady asked me if I would consider flying into a different airport. Here's the catch, we were told the flight was canceled because of weather. So we couldn't fly into JW airport but we could fly into San Diego, LAX or Corona airport, all these airports are about 40 minutes away from our home. It wasn't a weather issue, that's what they say because they don't have to pay anything to the consumer by saying that. Trust me the weather was perfect in O.C only 40 minutes away from the other 3 airport. I also spoke to a few people that are in the airline bz and they all said the same thing it's because they are short employees not the weather. I wonder why they are short. Needless to say, I had decided do all of us to fly into Corona which cost me $350.00 for a ride home. AA originally was trying to get us to stay additional day, then they flew us into an airport where we had no cars and had to hire SUV to get all of us home. I don't know of any business that can run like this and get away with it. Meanwhile tax payer money bailed them out continuously. They should of refunded me my $350.00 that I had to pay to get home.
