The rice is way over cooked with more water in it that made it so soggy. Sorry but I can't eat the dish. Too fatty from the pork belly or bacon. There are definitely some menu items that stand out, but alas, there are equal counterparts. Service, however, was super solid. The gentleman working the register answered our questions confidently and did not shy with giving his personal suggestions. I will admit, out of all the southeastern asian foods, Filipino food is probably what I eat the least, so I know very little about their cuisine. In fact, I'm rather surprised that they use pickled vegetables. It had a very "new american" flare about it. Anyway, we only tried a few items so I'll go into detail of each dish as this review will be somewhat short. For drinks, I wanted to get to know what locals like so we grabbed what appeared to be canned nectars. The (slightly lemongrassy) skewered chicken rice plate was rather plain. Even the rice, as rich as it looked with sauce and fried onions/garlic, it just didn't really have much flavor or depth. The acidic, limey sauce that came with seemed misplaced. We already have pickled cabbage so the dish was poorly balanced as a whole. The bbq pork pancit, though? Oh my goodness. That is a proper dish. Nice sweet and salty cuts of pork cooked with dark soy sauce-- easily can say is their best protein option. Seasoned glass noodles with stir fried vegetables? Yum. Oh, its rich with mushroom flavor, and their spicy chili oil condiment is quite good, too. Their tapioca, coconut milk dessert was delicious and not overly sweet, but at a price point of $9 for a small cup, it's a bit extreme. I'll be honest and say I'd rather hike a few steps to the icecream parlor for a couple large, high quality scoops for a smaller price tag. Their lumpia dish comes with shrimp crackers that are seasoned with, once again, some kind of lemon salt of sorts... lemon zest, perhaps? It's crazy overpowering and hides the subtle salty umaminess of the cracker. As someone who grew up in a Vietnamese household, I'm no stranger to shrimp crackers, and I can say with a lot of confidence that it can be done "better." Lumpia is served with what tastes like a homemade banana ketchup. A bit expensive for what its worth to me, but there was definitely a shining light in the pancit and tapioca dessert. The name of this new establishment inside the also new POST Houston couldn't get any more literal with me since it means "I'm Pinoy (or Filipino)." When I planned my night around Chelsea Handler's show at the adjacent -- and yes, new -- 713 Music Hall, I had my heart set on having dinner here. It's safe to say that Soy Pinoy was everything I thought it would be: a Filipino restaurant that I can rave about to family, friends, and anyone else willing to listen. It's my duty to inform potential diners that you don't tell anyone behind the counter your order; you do so by scanning a QR code that opens up your browser to the restaurant's menu. I waited about 15 minutes for my fried chicken adobo and lumpiang shanghai, which wasn't that long a wait. You should've seen my eyes when I was given my tray with my two selections. I was expecting both to be small, but no. The bowls they came in were almost as big as hubcaps. The fried chicken adobo came with juicy strips of my favorite bird over a bed of white rice. Paired with a fresh medley of atsara and parsley, this modern take on a classic Pinoy dish easily won my tastebuds over. The lumpia was surprisingly huge. Usually, it's about the size of a flash drive, but Soy Pinoy's was just as big as a burrito. The filling was really good, with the accompanying chili oil paste amplifying the finger food. Went to the Post today solely to stop by here bc I actually liked his food, but instead of helping us he talked for over 30' minutes on one table even though he saw us waiting on him, he continued to entertain them and made us wait--- we finally decided to leave and find other place to eat. I'm sad because I actually liked his food and admired his hard work as a Filipino like me and thriving in the U.S. I don't think I will be coming back here again and neither recommend it. To be honest, I was very disappointed by this spot. I was originally elated to find a filipino food spot at the Post market but that excitement quickly turned into regret after I got my food. I tried my food and instantly thought, "man, even i make better adobo at home.." the chicken for the pancit was dry and flavorless as well. I feel like this restaurant had a good idea but failed to actually follow through. The food is way overpriced for the quality of the dishes you get. My pork lumpia tasted like soap. Nice to see a Filipino spot in the POST. My group wanted some "comfort" food, so we shared a couple of apps. We ordered the lumpiang shanghai and calamari. The lumpia is like an egg roll, but smaller. I can eat a bunch of them if cooked with the right crunch, so once you get them, eat them as soon as they come out. For the calamari, I like how they breaded it, but the thing I'm surprised about was with the adobo sauce. We went to POST HTX for the FAHM(Filipino American Heritage Month) Fest yesterday. Soy Pinoy was one of the vendors but their line was long and I was starvin like Marvin. So we went inside the Food hall and ordered from there. Easy peasy process, you order, grab a table and they text you when the food is ready. We opted for the BBQ pork that came with rice for $18, side order of fried egg for $3 and also tried the Silog meal for $16. Silog means sinangag and itlog = garlic friend rice and egg. They were serving Tapa with the Silog meals that day so I opted for that. When I got the food, I noticed that the BBQ pork was super fatty :( it had great Filipino bbq flavor but it was too fatty. The beef tapa was also fatty and full of gatil (ligaments) which made it super tough to chew. The rice that came with it was just regular rice- Silog meals are supposed to have garlic fried rice hence the name so that was a disappointment. The vinegar dip it came with was good though. The flavors on the meat were there but was disappointing about the super fatty meat we were given. read more

I was walking around Post Houston to see what type of food I should eat since there was a good amount of diversity in this food court. I came upon Soy Pinoy since Filipino food sounded quite appetizing. I ordered online on my phone since I believe that was the only way to order, a bit confusing if I had to be honest. This is definitely more of a modern twist to Pinoy dishes. However, the dish I got was quite underwhelming though. Not much flavor, was quite bland and left me wanting something more and different. Most of the menu didn't seem worth it, but I chose the Lechon Kawali since it's something I usually only eat on special occasions. Over 30-minutes creeped by before Soy Pinoy pinged me. All for a whopping $18! After two highly unsatisfying bites, I threw the rest away. What a sad waste of pork. I've had tons of Filipino food... being Filipino and all. Houston has a ton of mediocre Filipino food options, but Soy Pinoy is easily the most disappointing. My husband was super excited to see this food stand at The Post and he got an order of the lumpia to share with our table. The lumpia was cooked perfectly and had the a flaky crunch that you would expect. I loved the dipping sauce that came with it and the price was right for the dish. Ate here twice already and both times it was really good. Not traditional Pinoy recipes but I really appreciate the small modern twists to the dishes. One thing to note is that dishes I have tried tend to lean towards the more acidic flavor profile but given some of the fatty pork meats, it helps cut through that all that savoriness. I've tried the Lechon Kawali, Crispy Sisig, Pork BBQ (liempo), and the Vigan longanisa (this one was pretty mediocre though). A bit pricey but that's a pretty common thing for spots in the Post.
