The pool is so relaxing, and just the right temperature. Definitely worth the visit if you are staying as a guest, and definitely worth checking out on resort pass or calling to see what their daily rate is for a guest pass if they are available that day. The workout facilities are top-notch, with many open machines and also a free weight section. The spot itself has luxury services, and while I did not partake in the massages and facials, my friends have and have said they are very relaxing and great for sore muscles. If you want a relaxing massage that is light, make sure to specify that, and if you want a deep tissue sports therapy massage, make sure to specify that too and it can be accommodated. So many 5 star reviews - REALLY??? My husband and I were looking for a mini retreat getaway and after taking a tour I booked a room and massage at the Intercontinental. I was anticipating a relaxing take me away massage for both of us and booked the couple room. I loved the idea of having my body turning to Jello, lay by the pool and have easy access to our room so we wouldn't have leave our tranquil state of being. "Not" That didn't happen. I was sadly disappointed. Having a couples massage is convenient because we are both there but other than that I don't feel it is worth the extra cost. I had a male and he had a female masseuse and we filled out the little questionnaire about where to find our kinks so they could work them out. Well, turns out it was the opposite. The areas we circled seemed to be skipped. I was really looking forward to my calves and footies worked on. I don't know the names of our masseuse. They weren't as professional as I had hoped. They were walking around giggling and whispering and carrying on scooting in and out of what felt like hiding places while we and some other guests waited in the center spa. The area has soft mood lighting and a nice ambiance and is very quiet so it was hard not to notice the interaction. We were waiting for our appointments while the 3 other guests had just had their appointments and were sipping water and snacking on dishes of fruit. The spa area has the look and feel but in the end it is the massage that counts and for the price it was not worth it. Two stars is generous. While my facial was great, my pedicure was nothing to write home about. The customer service killed the entire vibe, bringing it down to two stars. My friend had a terrible experience, they forgot about her and took her back 30 minutes late for her first appointment making her late for her second - nothing relaxing about that! In the rush, they also didn't give her the service she asked for but still tried to charge her the full amount. Plus, they wanted to overcharge me for one of my services - thankfully I looked at the receipt and knew the price differed from what was quoted on the website. When I pointed out the difference, they said their system was correct but the website was outdated, which isn't not my problem. Reluctantly, she gave me my money back. We're never going back here. I proceed to tell her I booked 2 weeks ago so now you're just changing my reservation and I'm supposed to be ok with that? She then gets her supervisor who comes and lathers me up with a bunch of apologies but not telling me how the intercontinental failed to tell me they double booked and can no longer accommodate my couples massage. Yet the Caucasian couple had no issues with their appointment it's the African American couple that gets the short end of the stick! Then this lady tells me I can you a discount on your massage, or I can give you a free massage. (Not to be snobby but bitch I drive a Benz with a college degree I DON'T need a discount!) I wanted my couples massage! A simple I can take you guys in a half hour or 45 minutes would have been better than trying to butter me up with a discount. massage was the WORST I have ever had. I go into the "serenity" area before my massage and have a glass of water out of a styrofoam cup. I find one of the chairs to sit in that doesn't have a dinner plate sized stain. Then, I am STUNNED at the scream-laughing/conversing employees in a nearby staff area. I figured when they came out, they'd be equally stunned to see a guest there and apologize for being bar-level loud, but no, it's actually my 'masseuse' asking if I'm ready. Then things really get interesting. The massage room looks like a large gas station restroom, without the toilet. There's a huge cavern shower there, dark, no shower curtain. A sad looking table with Target quality linen is in the middle. There isn't a candle or the like within miles. The "massage" was just someone rubbing lotion on me for an hour. When it's over, I go back to the 1 working locker to get my clothes. I look for a bathroom stall to change in, walking by 1 unflushed toilet after another. By the final stall, I find one. I drop my robe and an egg-sized hair tumbleweed (not mine!) shoots across the floor. I go to pay and find tip has already been included. read more

Getting a day pass here to use the pool and locker room (includes steam) is a fantastic way to spend a winter day. The pool is small and only 3.5-4 feet deep, but very warm and clean. Bring a book if you have time because relaxing in the lounge chairs with a view of the pool and Rose Kennedy Greenway is really nice. I have never seen it crowded here, even on a weekend. The locker rooms are also small but include a spa robe, as many towels as you can use, spa sandals, and wonderful smelling body products (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, etc) The music in the gym is really abrasive clubby music, but the music piped into the locker room and pool is calming spa music. Thank goodness. If you get a spa treatment access to the facilities is included, which is nice. read more

This place was amazing. I got a facial here for spa week and it was absolutely wonderful. After you get off the elevator on the second floor and check in, you go to the locker room/showers. They have everything you could possibly need for a shower, including razors at the front desk. After you change into your rob and slippers, you go into the relaxation room where they have water and calm, peaceful music playing. I had the facial done by Kelly. She was fantastic. She explained everything she was doing while she did it, and my favorite part is that while they are waiting for the masks to dry, Kelly massaged my head, neck and shoulders causing me to relax completely. I also liked that when she was done with the facial, the last thing she did was to spray me with a gentle lavender mist. When you're done with whatever service you just had, they give you some water and fruit and let you stay in the relaxation room for as long as you want. Sooooo relaxing! The decor itself put me to ease. I came here for a Swedish massage and pedicure. Check in was easy, and they give you a tour and robes to change in immediately. The waiting area for your treatment was so relaxing and had small drinks and a snack. I had my Swedish massage with Katie and she was so patient and friendly! Her handwork is amazing as well and almost put me to sleep! I didn't get the name of the woman who did my pedicure but she was also amazing! Walked to Intercontinental Hotel. Floor 2. SPA Intercontinental. Cashed in on gift certificate for "Expecting Mother Massage" from Loverpants for Christmas. Was warmly greeted and given all the instructions so that did not walk through any wrong doors half-nekked. Sat in terry cloth robe in zen waiting room NOT looking at my planner, a magazine, my watch. Laid on table while Jose the masseuse went all Patrick-Swayze-with-a-mound-of-clay on my back. Note: The expecting mother's set-up is not perfect in that they just prop you on the table with a special cushion with a belly concave, so it's a little hard to breathe with your face down (the face pillow is on top of the table, if you can envision). After 80 blessed minutes, I was so blissed out I saw unicorns and puppy dogs jumping over rainbows. I went back to that zen waiting room and sat in my terrycloth robe a few minutes longer. Jose gave me some water and offered me some dried apricots that I didn't have to share with anyone. I then got to use the hotel pool as a guest of the spa. So I did. It was 84 degrees in that pool. I would have been 100% fine with going into labor right there. I then took the hottest shower of my life. And used every single bottle of lotion, shampoo, other sundry toiletry item provided by the hotel. I could have spent hours in the ultra-clean environment, and the $150 tag for an 80 minute preggo massage? Totally reasonable. This would be the perfect pre-push present for your lady in expectation. So 3 stars is A-OK, and while I don't think my experience was quite that good, I don't want to give 2 stars since that feels too negative...so 2.5 stars, rounding up. My sister and I had groupons, so I called to make a reservation for us both for a 50 minute facial and 50 minute pedicure. The woman I spoke with was curt but got the job done. I got the confirmation email and my pedicure was listed as an express pedicure. I had to call back and she said 'Oh I just noticed and fixed it'. So off to a somewhat rough start. Upon arriving to the spa, checking in was a hot mess, everyone was running around like chickens with their heads cut off...far from relaxing. No one knew who had which service, the 'tour' was super brief and we were unsure where to go for what. I had to tell the girl 3 times that my sister and I had a facial and pedicure. My other sister also came (just for a day pass) and she had to remind the front desk guy that she needed to pay $25. Also, the locker room was in a super weird location. They tried to make it less awkward by installing 2 doors, but every time the door opened, anyone standing out in the lobby/pedicure area could see in to me changing...awkward. Once my sister and I finally realized we had to go into the 'Treatment room' and THAT'S where we wait for our facials it became much more relaxing and professional. Jennifer Scullin who did my facial was incredible, so I'm sad that her great work is being lumped into this review. She was incredibly thorough, and explained things at certain points (it was my first facial, so she was maybe more informative than usual). The shoulder and neck massage was out of this world and made the whole experience very calming and relaxing. My pedicure was, meh. Geyri Molina did this service and she was nice but very quiet and not totally personable. This didn't bother me that much (had I been on my own), but my sister had Grace Zheng and she seemed a little more friendly. The paint job was also less than stellar and the sides of my nails were left unpainted which was frustrating. At check-out, Jennifer had recommended a couple products, and I decided to purchase a facial oil. It was $42.50 and took the girl over 5 minutes to take my $45 and give my $2.50 change...I guess most people don't use cash, but I mean come on. The service started off nice and the ladies were very pleasant..but then once it was coming to and end we both felt very rushed and the ladies started to clean up around us.. Maybe because they had another appointment coming in but it just made us feel uncomfortable. My friend had to ask for us to be moved to the lounge so we could dry. We had just received $80 pedicures we did not want to put our shoes on and go! Nothing was really said to us after that and we basically left with horribly smudged pedicures and a ton of regret. I took advantage of the amazing yelp deal - $100 for an 80 minute massage + manicure. I don't think I'll be able to afford this place w/o deals like this one. I went last Tuesday after work, and it was just a perfect mid-week treat to keep me going. The spa is on the 2nd floor, so just go up any elevator and follow the signs. When I first walked into the hotel lobby, I must have looked confused/lost, because a very nice door man welcomed me and asked if he could help me. Thanks, tall hotel man! At the front desk of the spa, another person greeted me, gave me my portfolio to sign at the end of my treatments to include my tip, a robe, slippers, and directions to the locker room and instructions on how to use their fancy key code lockers. Everything is super plush and luxurious here. My masseuse/manicurist, Iris, was super nice. After I arrived on the other side of the locker room, in the gorgeous waiting area, Iris greeted me and brought me into my treatment room. After talking a bit about what I wanted from my day, she left the room, so I could hop up on the table, which was heated. She went right to work on my massage. It was just what I needed. It wasn't as good as my massage at Body Worker, but I still fell asleep at some point... so definitely thumbs up. The manicure was really great because they only use nail polish products that are vegan and they don't have the three cancer causing chemicals often found in polish... meaning they're "three free" (http://healthychild.org/uploads/file/Nail_Polish_walletcard.pdf) and that's a BIG PLUS! My only few wishes for this place is that I could have had time between my massage and manicure to shower and relax a bit in the steam room. Also, I wish they had hot tubs. This is a review for the Winter Solstice massage treatment with Mark. It was AMAZING! I wasn't sure exactly which treatment I wanted to select, but I went with this one because it was described as a combination of various massage techniques and aromatherapy to help relax you after all the holiday stress. It worked wonders in relaxing me! I have pretty serious anxiety and stress, and I don't know if I've ever felt so relaxed in my entire life. I didn't feel that the pressure was strong enough to really work out any serious kinks (probably my fault for my selection, but that wasn't really what I was looking for), but it was incredibly soothing and relaxing. Mark was incredible. I had a late reservation but he never once made me feel rushed. I could really drift off and just enjoy the massage and aromatherapy. On one last note, the Spa is beautiful. My treatment room was gorgeous, the lighting was perfect, everything was great. The showers are terrific, and I utilized the steam room for twenty minutes after my treatment and really enjoyed that as well. I am used to the Napa/ Sonoma experience when it comes to spas. I am the spa lingerer. What I mean by this is that I literally take like 3 hours pre massage to get my pamper on. Many Napa spas have lavish meditation rooms, multiple whirlpools, steam rooms, lux locker rooms etc. so this is what I look for! The massage itself here was like a 4 but the overall experience a 3. Yes there was a pool, and the website said that there was food service in the pool area... Not one attendant to be found. I wanted the weekend...and was hoping for the week after- the receptionist was nice but told me they were booked on weekends until March, so okay that's fine, book for march. My friend wanted the deep tissue upgrade and that cost $20 extra so she would note that. She got all my info correct but got my friends email wrong so she didn't get a confirmation and when she called in march to double-check that everything was good- realized they got her email wrong..and didn't put in a note of the upgrade. So the receptionist told her she will definitely note that...and she didn't when we got there by the way... they had no clue of the upgrade. I asked the receptionist if they know if they have makeup remover/ cleanser that i can use and they said they don't know...HMMMM. Why don't you know? But she gives a great tour! They should really have those available in the locker room area- people need to take off their makeup! I'm sure the facial people have it- but it's just easier for them if you provide it in the locker room so we can be all cleansed before we even go into the room. So! You should arrive maybe an hour or two early, you can go use the pool...take a shower.. though i don't like how the waiting area is unisex- use to all females. There's only water and lipton tea..no cheese or crackers- not very fancy. I am one who hates pain..or pressure so when I say that my swedish massage by amy was light- it was light. Felt like i didn't really get a massage. I told her my tension areas are my shoulders and lower back so you think there would be more pressure but no. She used more pressure on my legs and arms. My facial by Athena was very nice. She actually was stronger on my top back when she was putting product on than amy..The products were very natural but pricy. My husband gifted me a massage here last week as a Christmas gift. I've been here for a massage before, but I am very disappointed in my experience this time around. The waiting room was a mess with trash, empty champagne bottles/glasses and half-eaten food everywhere. The cold water was empty and the water for the hot tea was cold. However, I'm mostly upset because the massage itself was very disappointing. First of all the masseuse asked me if I had any injuries and I responded, yes, I have an elbow injury. He proceeded to poke my elbow repeatedly, which was very painful. I was really hoping he'd focus on my upper back (and back in general) but barely seemed to massage my back at all. Instead, focusing on arms and legs with barely any pressure. At first I thought he was just spreading the massage oil and I was waiting for the massage to start and then I realized that what he was doing was the massage. When I realized this, I asked him to increase the pressure and he would for a second, but then go back to the way he was doing it before. For what seemed like a good 10 minutes, he did this weird thing where he put his fingers in my ears and pulled my eyebrow hairs. I left feeling very uncomfortable, my back still sore and totally not massaged what-so-ever, and my elbow was killing me! I am so upset that I had wasted my massage appointment. We combined two Groupons to book a couple's Swedish massage. Upon checking in you're led to the respective locker room where you get a robe, slippers, and a locker (which was a bit tricky to work as some seemed faulty; they're the ones where you set the code yourself). We got there a little early as we assumed these kinds of appointments begin on the dot but we ended up having to wait a few minutes in the waiting room, which was co-ed. The massage was standard, they asked us where we'd like to focus on and they did the rest. After the massage you have to option of using their fitness room or pool, but we just hopped in the steam room and then showered. These were rain showers equipped with this cool eucalyptus mist, and everything you need (soap, razors, etc). Outside of the showers the have brushes, combs, hair dryers, lotion for you to finish up. With the massage treatment you get complimentary use of their fitness center and pool during your visit, which we didn't realize so we didn't bring anything for it. They probably cite it on their website somewhere but a reminder would've been nice. So everything was fine and dandy up until it was time to checkout and pay. I had already double checked when I made the reservation that it was okay to combine to Groupons for a couple's massage, since a couple's visit was just double the price of one massage. The receptionist did not agree to this and tried to explain some math logic that didn't even make sense. She was pretty adamant and I was getting worried that we'd have to unexpectedly dish out another hundred something dollars for our treatment, but luckily another associate stepped in and settled it for us. Overall it was nice and kinda fancy, but I don't think I'd pay full price for these services, as you could get the same treatment for half the price elsewhere. read more

Booked a couples massage for my girlfriend's birthday, but when we got there the day of our massages the woman on the phone had apparently booked is for a different month. This particularly irked me because I had called earlier in the day to confirm the massage and see about getting Champagne to enjoy poolside after our massages. The manager was very apologetic and tried to get someone in who had left to accommodate us. She could not and we were forced to reschedule. When we came back the second time we were shown to the locker room. The mens changing room was full or 3-4 people who had been using the weight room as well as a father and his 3 boys. The chaos of the changing room did not help put you in the right frame of mind for a massage. When you got into the waiting area it was a lot quieter. However, there are offices off of all the waiting area and there is a constant stream of people coming in and out. Finally we got to the massage part. Both of our massages were very good which is the reason they are getting the 2 stars. They asked what hurt, what kind of pressure you would like and did an overall great job. After the massages I took a steam again a few more people in there than I'd have like be all in all relaxing. Then headed for the pool. The pool was once again chaos. Kids everywhere playing with pool toys and noodles, fighting and splashing. Don't get me wrong they were just being kids not holding that against them but its not what you expect from a high end spa experience. The detox body wrap was unbelievable, the hot stone massage was divine, and the 'brightening facial' by Athena worked wonders!! Bought to you by me through Groupon!! The spa is tucked away on the 2nd floor. My appt was today at 5PM with Alexis for the 50mins Swedish massage and Katya for the 50mins essential pedicure. I was given a info sheet to fill out, a robe, sandal and a tour of the place prior to my appts. It's not a BIG place but it's enough to get away for a relaxing time. The massage by Alexis was good. She asked me for my tension spot and focused on that but still gave me a full body work. The bed was warm, room was clean and music was relaxing. After I was done with the massage, Katya was already outside the room waiting to take me to get my pedicure done. I didn't expect the nail room to be so small. It had 2 pedicure and 2 manicure chairs. There weren't many Polish color to choose from but it was enough; they only carry OPI and Essie, as for gel... Not sure if that's provided there or not but they had CND. Katya was great.. The 50 mins went by quickly. The essential pedi came with foot scrub and a paraffin foot wrap. It left my feet smooth and soft. I love it! The only thing is the paint job isn't that great, she missed the corner of my right big toe... I'm not a picky person so it was fine. I had some time to kill so I went to the stream room and enjoyed myself. Afterward, showered, they had a eucalyptus mist spray in the shower that you can spray against the wall for a minty fresh smell. All towels and toiletries were provided inside the woman lockers. Unlike other reviews, I couldn't hear anything from outside while I was inside the spa area. Don't forgot that you can have full use of the facility (spa/gym) every time you go there for a body treatment. I went to the InterContinental Spa for a 50-minute Swedish massage & custom facial yesterday! After leaving an hour early for my appointment, I managed to be about 5 minutes late due to horrible traffic on 93 South, and lack of parking in the area (which ended up costing me $25 for valet and a tip)... so leave plenty of time to arrive, park, check-in and get changed before all services. When I finally got inside I was a bit rushed as the front desk woman made sure to mention that I was late at least 3 times. But once settled, I met my aesthetician, Athena, who was so nice! The massage was very relaxing and Athena knew all of my tension spots right away! She was even able to guess my occupation by where all of my knots were (haha)! The custom facial was great! She targeted my skin perfectly! The facial scrub, exfoliation, and Aloe Vera Gel mask felt wonderful on my skin! The extracting hurt a little (given) but my face looked and felt AMAZING after (I literally can't stop looking at it in a mirror, lol)! They also extend an invite to utilize the rest of facility (showers, pool, etc) after you finish! The facility was very clean, and the waiting area was dim-lit and calming. So for overall service I give Athena 5 stars! The only reason I gave 4 stars is due to the customer service at the front desk. I didn't catch the name of the woman I dealt with, but yesterday was my second encounter with her, and both times were not so pleasant. She had a bit of accent (which I have nothing against because both of my parents are immigrants) but it made it a little hard to communicate with her upon making my appointment, and then again upon calling to ask some questions before my arrival. Her misunderstanding lead to me having to telling her to forget it because I knew I couldn't get the answers I needed, and I didn't want to be rude by asking for another employee to help. read more

For reference - I had the peppermint pedicure. I was 4 mins late to my appointment. I understood that the appointment length may be hindered because of this, but the receptionist was exceptionally rude about it. She also made it a point to belittle me when I could not get the locker to work that she had told me to use - turns out, the locker was broken. She never apologized and proceeded to tell me that now my appointment length would be cut even shorter because of the amount of time I took in the locker room. I got into the pedicure area. It was very clean, but very small. Also absolutely no music playing whatsoever and zero magazines or books out to read. The actual pedicure by Alex was good but still not really worth the $70 in my opinion. Alex was nice enough to give me the full appointment length, but not without the receptionist interrupting several times at the end to hurry Alex up. I will not be coming back to this spa, and I would advise the receptionist to read up more about proper customer service. I came in yesterday afternoon with my mom for a 50 minute Swedish massage. We had the massages with Alexis Lane and Lemara Morales. I'm not sure why a lot of people had such bad experiences because me and my mom loved the massages so much we can not wait to come back and visit these girls again. Alexis worked on my mom and my mom said she was very nice, careful, and delicate giving my mom a great full body massage experience. We had told her ahead of time to not use so much pressure on my mom and she did great! As for me I can handle any type of pressure and Lemara did great on me. I had informed Lemara of some tension I had felt in my back neck and right hand, and I kid you not my pain went away in both locations after that awesome massage. My mom and I both left very impressed. They were both so sweet and asked a lot of good questions before starting the massages on both of us, they listen to our needs, and delivered! They also put us both in the couples room so I could be next to my mom, and I loved the heated massage tables being used. I don't know if those are only used in the couples room, but that was a nice touch that we both loved. The massage definitely lasted a full 50 minutes also, I did not feel they cut it short at all. We also thought the two guys in the front were so sweet and kind, they helped us a lot as well. The whole spa was clean when we went in and so were the lockers, showers, and bathroom stalls. Our robes were clean and our slip ons were clean as well. Great experience we will be back and I want to bring in my dad next! Thank you guys for such a great and relaxing experience. read more

My husband got me a gift certificate for a facial here and I was not impressed. First, it was really hard to get someone on the phone to schedule my appointment, and the online booking system was telling me there were no available appointments for the next 2 months. I was finally able to reach someone on the phone and get in. The woman who did my facial was nice, but I had told her that I have relatively sensitive skin. She recommended a pumpkin scrub, so I figured this would accommodate sensitive skin. Not so much. After the facial, my skin was extremely red and irritated, and I had red patchy spots on my cheeks for about a week. Also, I had brought some makeup with me to put on after the facial, as I had somewhere to go afterwards. I ended up not bothering with it since I was concerned about further irritating my skin, but I accidentally left my foundation on the counter in the locker room after getting dressed. I realized this about 30 minutes after I left, so I called and asked if someone could grab it and leave it at the front desk for me to pick up. The woman put me on hold, then claimed she couldn't find anything but that she'd check with her manager after she returned from a meeting. I gave her my number and she said she'd let me know, but I never heard back. I then called a few hours later and the person I spoke with claimed to know nothing about it but promised to call me in the morning once she spoke to the manager. Again, no phone call the next day. I ended up having to buy new foundation, of course it was my fault for leaving it there but the staff offered zero help finding it and setting it aside for me. Due to the poor results of the facial (it's not like it just didn't work, it actually damaged my skin) and the poor customer service, I won't be returning. read more

I hate writing reviews that aren't stellar. I do realize that for some guests our experience might have been excellent while others might leave only 1 star. A friend and I try and book a spa morning together once or twice a year, either in the city (where we have lived for 11+ years) or outside. This time we decided to try a Groupon (facial and massage). Booking: 5-Stars. That was fairly easy and was done a few weeks in advance over the phone. A friend and I try and book a spa morning together once or twice a year. There were no complaints with this process. Pro: The manager was knowledgeable and friendly. We were taken right into the waiting area. The girl who gave me a facial and massage was very nice. The changing area was fine...a little cramped but fairly clean. The sitting area inside was nice and dimly lit...relaxing except for the staff going in/out repeatedly to what I think was their service station. Cons: The robe was stained and didn't feel clean. After my service I sat in the steam room...which had a mildewy smell and could definitely use some TLC. They only had a few showers which were small and also had a smell to them. The soap and shampoo provided was poorly presented (labels were torn off and the soap was gunked onto the spigot) minor details but this is the Intercontinental and we were one of the first appointments of the day? The towels provided were also stained. The service...this was the really disappointing part. The woman who gave me my massage and facial was incredibly nice and chatty. She talked for almost the full two hour service. Not quite the relaxing spa service I was hoping for. The massage was a little weak. The facial was OK. My friend had the same experience and was pressured into up-charges during her service. The checkout process also took about 10minutes which was a little strange. We did not take advantage of the gym or pool. I would have expected more from the Intercontinental. This was a second visit for me and a first for my friend. Sadly, we won't be going back. There are tons of great spa's in the area to take advantage of and I am just glad we used Groupons and didn't pay full price. read more

2.5 stars = 3.5 star Massage - 1 star Pedicure BOOKING They had decent availability as long as you booked about a week or so ahead. I wasn't able to get through their direct line and kept getting to an answering machine, so I called the hotel directly to transfer me to the spa. The person I spoke to was nice and booked me for a pedicure first, then massage back-to-back evening appointment; I did ask if I could get a massage first, but that was what was available. I mentioned my Groupon, and she said to bring a print-out of the voucher. I inquired about use of the facilities, and she told me I would have time after my appointment. Although I didn't leave a message, I did get a callback from the multiple missed calls. PARKING The spa does offer valet validated parking for $25 for up to 5 hours at the hotel on-site, as opposed to the $36 full-price. However, I parked around the corner at 280 Congress Street garage for $12, flat rate for nights and weekends. CHECK-IN I arrived 30 minutes before my appointment and filled out a form describing any special attention for each service. I was then given a robe and sandals and directed into the locker room. There was no mention of time restraints for use of the spa facilities or any changes to my appointment. The locker room is tiny but is a clean and nice space. I like the functionality of the push-button code on the lockers, although the first one I tried didn't work. ESSENTIAL PEDICURE After changing into my robe, I waited in the treatment area for my pedicure. After waiting a few minutes, I was worried when my appointment time came and I still hadn't been called. I asked for help and shortly after, the "nail tech" Yeti came for me. The nail room was small with only 2 manicure tables and 2 pedicure seats. Abysmal polish collection with few color options and old paint. At the prices they charge, they should be carrying fresh bottles all the time. I prefer CND over OPI and Essie, but they only had a few bottles and no red color: seriously questionable. Yeti was nice, but, not to be rude, I don't know how she has been able to get and keep this job. Worst pedicure I've ever gotten. The only real pleasant experience was the paraffin wax, which earns the 1 star. I did not get a foot massage as stated in the service description and was left alone during the paraffin wax. The paint job was so, so bad. She painted very messily and kept correcting, but it still came out botched. The CND top coat she used on me was really old and running out, but she kept trying to use that bottle. Because she ran over my appointment time, she said to come back as I surely would get smudged during my massage. SWEDISH MASSAGE I was originally booked with Luz but was switched to Peter instead with no notice. Peter was very nice and friendly. I already ran a few minutes into my appointment thanks to my pedicure, which should have left me with 10 minutes to spare. At the beginning of my massage, he asked if I had a hair tie, but I had left it in my locker, so he said he'd go get one for me, which took more time out of my appointment. The massage itself was very good. Peter did an amazing job on my back with good technique, although I am experiencing a little pain in my shoulders. He barely did my legs, which was disappointing. Although I genuinely enjoyed my conversation with Peter, I kind of wish I was able to fully relax without talking. He ended the appointment right on time at the 50-minute mark, which meant I lost about 10 minutes of the massage due to the over-run pedicure appointment and hair tie situation. In the treatment area, another masseuse had been handing out cards and offering a discount on her clients' next appointments. AFTER APPOINTMENT I went back to Yeti to fix a couple smudges. She finally said the CND top coat was bad and asked if she could use a regular top coat instead, which was fine. She told me to dry 15 minutes before swimming. As I was drying, the staff were dumping ice into the nail room sink, so when I finished drying, I asked how long the pool would be open for. I was told 30 minutes. I was shocked as I wanted to use the pool and gym after my appointment and was told I would have time to. I was also then told the gym was open 24-hours for hotel guests only. I decided to swim laps anyway with the little time I had left. Once I saw it was almost 9 PM, I got out to rinse and dry off. While I was toweling off, a staff member came to let us know that the door to the pool automatically locks at 9:00. So I rushed out still wet. I then went to the steam room. I was in there for no longer than 5 minutes before a staff member alerted me that the locker room was closing in 10 minutes, so I rushed out again to quickly shower and change. Seriously, I'm at a spa to relax but have never felt so rushed. There was no mention of time restraints on their website or in person. They should notify clients. This spa absolutely needs improvement before I would revisit. read more

Someone bought me a group-on voucher as a gift to visit this place. Sadly, this spa isn't managed very well. There is never anybody that answers their phones and you're lucky to hear from anyone through electronic means. Once I did manage to speak to someone I couldn't redeem the voucher for an actual real appointment for months - which is ridiculous. I wouldn't entrust my personal health to this organization - they have repeatedly demonstrated to me that they just don't care about people. read more

I find myself wishing I could give it 3.5 stars, but I'll have to settle for 3. This was my second or third trip to the Spa at the Intercontinental, so I thought it was about time for a review. I called on a weekday and was able to book a massage for that night (kudos!), which was sorely needed. I arrived about 20 minutes early and was given a quick tour of the men's lockers, with the steam room and showers pointed out. I love a steam room and I think this is one of the spa's major selling points. So much better than the steam shower at Bliss!. A quick shower and change and I was off to meet my massage therapist. I indicated on my treatment card (which you fill out in advance) that I had pain in my shoulders, and I told this to my therapist as well. I also indicated that medium pressure was fine (as this wasn't a "deep tissue" massage). As expected she stepped out, i slipped under the sheet, and a minute later we began. Everything from that point on was fine. Not great but, as yelp says, a 3-star A-okay. The massage didn't focus heavily on my shoulders and upper back, where the pain was, but an inordinate amount of time was spent shaking my body and rubbing my (already pain free) arms. Even the time spent on my shoulders and upper back was hardly satisfying. The light pressure and areas she focused on just didn't hit the spot. It was like having an itch and someone scratching all around it, but never quite getting it. It is difficult and stressful to try to describe exactly where to focus, and I've never had to before, so I just lay there hoping she would get to it eventually... which she didn't. I thanked the massage therapist, who was very nice, and headed to the relaxation room. The water and little snack provided was nice, but I quickly moved to the locker room for a steam. I walked in and found a couple of older guys getting ready for the gym (I think) and, to my surprise, an employee working on a light fixture. This was bizarre. The light worked and it posed no danger, so why have someone working on it right in the middle of where I'm showering and changing? Didn't seem professional or calming. Wait until after spa hours! Nevertheless, I grabbed a towel, hung up my robe, and slipped into the steam room. The room works great! It is large enough several people, but i had it to myself. Stretched out on one of the benches I sat back and took some deep breaths. The door opened and the front desk attendant brought in a cup of water, which was a great and attentive touch. Much appreciated. After the steam I showered (nice rainfall showers), freshened up (they provide hair product, etc) and was on my way! The rating would have been much higher with a better massage, because I like the facility. I would probably only go again if a particular massage therapist was personally recommended. read more

My boyfriend bought me a 50 min massage and 50 min pedicure from groupon for the spa at the InterContinental hotel. The pedicure was done very well but secretly I wish they had a more comfortable massage chair. Their chair does vibrate but not like a massage one you would see at a regular nail salon. I'm also on the short side and had to scooch up on the chair in order for the nail tech to reach me. The chair was not adjustable and she did her best by adding extra pillows but it wasn't that comfortable. I loved the massage! My masseuse, Lamar, did an amazing job on working out all my knots but also giving me a super relaxing massage. I did catch myself falling asleep on the table because i was so relaxed. Overall I really like the experience at Intercontinental spa. I was 10 mins late for my appointment but they were very accommodating of me. The valet parking is discounted to $25 for anyone using the spa and you can also use any of their amenities such as pool, gym, steam room, etc. The spa is very clean and peaceful and I love how they have everything set up. They have a separate waiting room for people who are about to go in for a massage and its beautiful. read more
