Then I spent some time in the steam room, read a book by the pool and swam and then showered off and heading home rejuvenated! They have everything you need! My boyfriend bought me a 50 min massage and 50 min pedicure from groupon for the spa at the InterContinental hotel. The pedicure was done very well but secretly I wish they had a more comfortable massage chair. Their chair does vibrate but not like a massage one you would see at a regular nail salon. I'm also on the short side and had to scooch up on the chair in order for the nail tech to reach me. The chair was not adjustable and she did her best by adding extra pillows but it wasn't that comfortable. I loved the massage! My masseuse, Lamar, did an amazing job on working out all my knots but also giving me a super relaxing massage. I did catch myself falling asleep on the table because i was so relaxed. Overall I really like the experience at Intercontinental spa. I was 10 mins late for my appointment but they were very accommodating of me. The valet parking is discounted to $25 for anyone using the spa and you can also use any of their amenities such as pool, gym, steam room, etc. The spa is very clean and peaceful and I love how they have everything set up. They have a separate waiting room for people who are about to go in for a massage and its beautiful. read more

Probably the worst massage I've had. Worse than Chinatown, yet twice the price... no hot springs as advertised, just a tiny steamer room that makes weird alarm noises once in a while. The pool is 1 m deep and tiny. The massage was mediocre at best - a lot of fussing around the drape and hot stones (I got the hot stone massage) and very little massage! Ok, so where to begin. First off, Kim, the spa manager is incredibly helpful. I called on the phone as we were traveling to Boston from NYC and she was very informative on the phone. She told us there was a new spa menu coming out so she emailed it to me within minutes of getting off of the phone. The appts were for my cousin and I so we wanted to hang out and she was so warm and welcoming, suggesting the best time, telling us about the other amenities, etc. We arrived an hour early for our appts (for "Retreat Yourself" package) and everyone was really accommodating. The high quality robes, flip flops and spotless locker room was truly an indication for what was to come. There was someone constantly cleaning up in the locker room each time we were there- the young woman, who's name I didn't catch, truly had an attention to detail and was as pleasant to speak with as each of the therapists and technicians. We were lucky enough to both get Kathy as our massage therapist (my massage was first facial second, cousin's massage was second, facial first). Kathy was AMAZING! I have had massages all over the world in some of the best spas and hotels and she truly was one of the best massage therapists ever. The oils they used, made by Zents, of Colorado were divine! You got to pick out which scent you wanted (I went with Ore, my cousin went with Oolong.) and they were amazing. Kathy really worked on my back and I felt so relaxed after it was over. Stephanie did our facials and even though she is young - she's truly gifted. Super knowledgeable re: skin, skin care and various products. Although she suggest products that would work well for us, it never felt like she was up-selling. Our skin glowed after our facials-she truly is a pro. The pedicures, which were part of the package were perfect. My cousin and I get pedis in NYC every week and we remarked how much time and attention they paid to our pedicures-definitely worthwhile. The package was so reasonably priced ($250) and it was a 3 hour experience in a top-notch, spotless, relaxing spa. I couldn't recommend Kim, Kathy & Stephanie more! I got the groupon as an xmas gift for a facial and massage. Booking: 1 star Phone number on the groupon did not work. Called the spa number twice and no one answered. Called the hotel to see if they could transfer me - two transfers were to a number not in service, finally third time they transferred me to someone who picked up Spa on the phone: pretty rude, she told me I should book online and seemed annoyed that I called, ended up booking with her on the phone (actually pretty easy once I convinced her to do it), was supposed to receive an email receipt but never did, called back the next day (easy to call this time) and the guy was very pleasant said she spelled my name wrong. Checkin: the woman who checked me in and showed me around was so nice! Glad it wasn't the lady on the phone! Facial: 5 Stars Lori!!!! I hate facials and she did an amazing job and made me feel so comfortable. No complaints at all with this. Massage: 3 stars pretty average, not great or bad My main issue with the massage was I just never got comfortable or relaxed. Cold room, no aromatherapy. My massage therapist did a good job and did ask me where I wanted her to focus I should have specify as she never did my neck/shoulders. Everything she did do was good. read more

Immediately upon walking into the spa I was greeted with the utmost of warmth and professionalism by the reception desk. The spa is stunning and envelopes you with its beauty and calming atmosphere. I didn't want to leave! The locker rooms have everything one would need in case you forgot something, I.e. deodorant, hairspray, mouse..it has a sauna, pool, beautiful gym. Their menu of services is extensive and impressively current with an array of facials, body treatments, and massages to try. I loved the aroma therapy massage. It was so relaxing and took me to another world! And I can't wait to try the anti cellulite treatment. Decided to treat myself to a full spa day today to kick off my Stay-cation. Found a Groupon for a 50 minute massage & facial at the Intercontinental & have been looking forward to it since I booked. It's a 4 Diamond Hotel with amenities galore - how could I go wrong? Here's how it went: +5 Stars for Corretta & her amazing facial. Extractions have never been more relaxing & my usually problematic skin is absolutely glowing +1 Star for the cleanliness of the treatment rooms, locker area & relaxation area - 0.5 star for the obnoxiously loud couple getting treatments at the same time as me. I came to the spa to relax, not to listen to you repeatedly yell through the door to your therapists that you're ready for them to come in. Not the staffs fault, but someone should have stepped in and said something. - 1 star for the hairs all over the steam room & the shower's shampoo/conditioner dispensers being covered in old product from the last time they were refilled -1 star for the male employee who farted while preparing a treatment room (Loudly enough that the 3 women with me in the relaxation area all jumped at the noise). Things happen, I get it. But still.... I would not want to be the one who was called in there next - 4 Stars for the massage I got from Moira (Moina?). I can only assume that she's new, because her draping & techniques were sooooo far from any massage I've ever experienced that I spent half of the 50 minutes trying to figure out how to ask her to correct them without sounding like an a$$. Instead of feeling comfortable & covered, she struggled to maneuver the blankets, left my arm dangling off the side of the bed, and then pulled them off of me without warning when it was time to flip over. Rather than the long slow strokes I'm used to, it was more like someone trying to quickly rub in too much sunscreen. Speaking of the lotion/oil - no massage should include being scrubbed down with a rough towel halfway through. I had a Relaxing Spa Deal voucher as a wedding gift to use at Intercontinental Boston. When I called them to redeem it I was told they no longer work with Maack Management so I would have to get my money back from them and then I can go back and still book an appointment with 50% discount, just like on the voucher I had. First of all, do you not get your money from the spa deal place when they sell a deal for you? Second, it's been 2 months and I cannot get my money back from Maack Management as they went bankrupt. I lost $200 and it is your responsibility because it is the organization you chose to work with. I cannot understand why I would have to deal with them and not you as the organization who made the business deal with them. Shameless! read more

Just got back from Spa Intercontinental where I had a deep tissue massage with paraffin hand treatment with Jose and a Body Scrub with Kellie. Jose was wonderful! I like very deep pressure and his strong hands did not disappoint! One of the best massages ever (& I get alot). The Body scrub with Kellie was heavenly and much more than I expected. After the exfoliating and showering you get a mini massage as she applies the lotion. Will definitely be returning! read more

Unfortunately, I was at work and unable to answer and then I just kept forgetting to call them back. It says a lot about a company that will go above and beyond to try to rectify an experience such as this. If you want a relaxing spa day, this is NOT the place for that. I paid $300 for anti-relaxation; I've only had a few "luxury spa" experiences and this was the most disappointing by far. - I made an appointment for their signature honey massage. They have you fill out a sheet about what you're looking for; I checked the box for stress relief/relaxation. I then got a massage from a practitioner who insisted that I needed my pressure points to be released and I therefore went through 90mins of wincing and physically reacting in pain as he dug his elbows into my muscles. At one point I told him I couldn't take it anymore and he said "Don't give up" and convinced me to keep going because he has a lot of wealthy important clients who come from all over to see him, so he knows what's best. In sum, the 90mins was anything but relaxing. That service was $250 and they automatically add the 20% gratuity to your bill, bringing my 90mins of discomfort to $300. You have to request them to adjust the gratuity, in other words, make yourself look like a stingy jerk, aka social manipulation. - Use of the lap pool is included with spa services. I brought my bathing suit and was looking forward to nice quiet relaxation in the pool. Unfortunately two families were in there with their kids (yes, in the lap pool) so it wasn't possible to use for laps or for quiet relaxation. - They only have robes that fit up to about a size 16 for women. When I asked for a larger robe, even asking for a man's robe, they said they were "still in the process of ordering robes" and didn't have a larger size for women or men. How long has this spa been in operation? A few weeks? Is that why they're "still in the process" of ordering robes? I put the robe around me as best I could but had to put a towel over my lap to keep myself decent in the "relaxation room" which is just the waiting area for people getting massages. read more

This review is mostly for Kelly. She is amazing! I first tried out the spa during Spa Week and both my massage and facial were great. I just returned for another facial and had the best experience. The facial felt both really effective and extremely relaxing. I hate how in some spas during a facial the therapist will put a mask on you and leave the room. This was almost completely opposite, while the masks are sitting on your face, you get a great massage. I would highly recommend Kelly to anyone. The spa itself is very relaxing and clean. They don't have any magazines to read while you're waiting for your appointment, I guess so you can relax, but it might get a little boring if you arrive very early for your appointment. There is also a nice gym there you can use while you're there for your appointment. read more

I literally had the WORST massage of my life yesterday at the Intercontinental. While they were accommodating because I was twenty minutes late and they didn't completely cancel my appointment, I wish they had. They switched me to a male therapist and he was just awful(P. Wong), I feel bad writing such a review but I would not recommend this spa to anyone I know. I have been to the Mandarin Oriental and it was definitely worth the $$ to get a much better experience. The pressure was so hard, I was yelling out in pain even I asked for lighter pressure. In any event, I would recommend spending your $$ anywhere else. When you come to Spa Intercontinental, you are treated like royalty from start to finish. The facility is immaculately maintained and stocked with every amenity. The treatment areas are peaceful and serene. Services are thorough and professional. I had a massage with Anette that left me feeling like I was walking on air. It unexpectedly cleared my sinuses. Booked a groupon in December, immediately called to try to book and was informed the spa was closed for rennovations. Called back throughout Jan and Feb and finally on 2/26 was informed Spa was re-opened. I just called this evening to book finally and was informed since the management company changed they could no longer honor my groupon and I would have to reach out to Groupon to be refunded. Are you freaking kidding me? They should have figured out a way to handle this and have them automatically refunded instead of just NOT honoring them and forcing me to go through the lengthy process to deal with Groupon customer service to have it refunded. Lucky me! Yelp was still advertising the massage/manicure deal for $100, and although the spa person told me the deal had expired, they honored it (yes, bait and switch is illegal, all you businesses out there who try to get out of published deals!) As it turns out, I had a great experience and will be a return customer. Win-win! First, the massage. Jose seemed surprised when I told him I prefer a lot of pressure, but, he said, okay! And he proceeded to knead and pulverize (in the best possible way!) my back and neck muscles until they were butter. It was an excellent massage. If I were Camille Grammar and could afford my own personal masseuer, it would be Jose. I was in a post-massage coma when Toni, the manicurist, retrieved me from my tea and dried fruits in quiet relaxation room and gave me a great manicure, complete with exfoliation. She was awesome because she knew all the great restaurants in Boston and gave me some great pointers. This spa is obviously part of a posh hotel, and as such, there is a nice indoor pool and steam room that can by used by anyone who purchases a spa treatment. I didn't have the chance to on this visit, but will bring my gal pals another time and have a girls afternoon, complete with room service. Was desperate for a massage as I'd walked about 15 miles on Sat/Sun morning in my work shoes (definitely not walking shoes) and had sore muscles from head to toe. Had a massage first (I don't recall his name, but my shoulder that had been sore for weeks was totally improved...and pain hasn't returned) which was really great and then my first body scrub...which I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was also wonderful. I made sure to get to the spa on time, though I still received a phone call 10 minutes prior to my scheduled appointment. While I found that annoying, I was super late last time and it does seem that lots of folks show up late, most likely due to parking issues. So, despite that, I had a GREAT facial with Olga. I shared with skin concerns and that I was looking for some serious extractions, and she delivered. She recommended several products for my skin type, though not in an upselling type of way. She's new to this work; only been doing it for a year plus. But, she seemed skilled and knowledgeable AND gave the best massage ever. I would leave zero stars if I could. Overall, the experience at the spa is pretty meh for the price, definitely not as nice or tranquil as you see at other spas of this caliber and price. However, what really irks me is the spa changed management last Fall, and apparently the previous management company (Maack) is going through bankruptcy. So, if you purchased a voucher for any of their services, they are not honoring them since they cannot get the money from the previous management group. At least that's my understanding from what the front desk staff told me, she was very nice by the way, so that's a plus. It's just really poor customer service from a place like the Intercontinental to not try to do something to accommodate the many people who purchased vouchers. This is not even a three star spa. I started the day thinking I would have a relaxing afternoon at the spa. I arrived and immediately went to the pool area. The water was cold, the cloth lounge chairs were filthy. There was no hot spa. I proceeded to the steam room to warm up. The sound of the steam coming on will awaken you from any relaxation you may have gained. Then I went to the showers. A broken bottle of body wash, shampoo and some horrible spray chained to the wall are what I found. There was no hair conditioner. Dried off and went looking for body cream, nope none! I asked for a dry rope since mine was wet. When you go in the pool you have to walk thru the gym and lobby to get back to the locker room. That is how my rope got wet. I was given a new rope but was promptly told that next time I will only get one rope because they were busy. I finally landed in the waiting area thinking there would be infused water or tea. Nope, no infused water and the tea was Lipton. Well there you have it. You decide if it is worth your hard earned money. read more

The woman was sweet so I won't say her name and throw her under the bus. I informed the front desk manager Hannah and she told me that she would re-book me with a vet. Well a week went by and nothing when I called Hannnah again she told me that her manager Kim would be in contact. Well after I chased Kim down for another week. This was her response "i can offer you 25 minutes or call groupon and get your money back"! Then I had to inform that I paid for 50 minutes and would have to pay for parking again as well. As someone who gets fairly regular facials, I've been to a number of spas throughout the city. This spa has a clean and well-equipped changing area and treatment waiting area, though both are rather small. The waiting area is calming, with dim lights, soothing music, and water and tea available. I took off one star mostly for a complicated interaction that I had related to using a Groupon. I was late due to a valet issue (there weren't any downstairs/outside the hotel!), so I had to circle around until I found an open and affordable lot. Definitely find a parking garage well in advance of going; that way you don't miss any of your scheduled appointment. Unfortunately, due to being late, my aesthetician did an express facial, which despite being relaxing and seemingly good for my skin was not what I'd planned to get. As I was really wanting the full facial, I was disappointed to use my Groupon for the express facial instead. I would have liked to have had a conversation about whether I wanted the express facial, rather than the aesthetician making the decision for me. After discussing my concern with the manager, who was very respectful and probably deals with a LOT of Groupon issues and complaints, I was pleased with how the situation was resolved. Received my spa package as a mothers day gift. I was welcomed by friendly staff that immediately provided me with my robes and slippers before escorted me to the ladies fitting room. The changing facilities were clean and relaxing. The soothing music and general ambiance set the perfect tone for my massage and facial treatments. I would avoid going to this spa. Highly unprofessional staff. There are so many other good spa options in Boston not to deal with the hassle of this place. Called to make an appointment using a gift card. I was told that they couldn't tell me how much money was on my gift card over the phone (so I didn't even know how long to make the appointment for). I got to my appointment and upon check out was told that the gift card processing machine was down and I would have to pay for the massage and also leave my gift card, by they assured me I would be refunded the next day once they were able to process the gift card. It's now been 5 days and no refund has been issued. I just called the spa to check in with what was going on and was told by the receptionist that there was no one currently there to assist me. I had a lukewarm stone massage. Oh, is not supposed to be a hot stone massage? Molina gripped the lukewarm stones so tight that I didn't feel the actual stones, just her fingernails for 60 minutes. Not worth $150. I thought perhaps she was new. If she's new, they should not be charging $150 for her services. Will not be going back any time soon. Oh, and did I mention the stones were lukewarm? I did the couples massage, mine was awesome ( Jose) he asked questions very gently throughout to make sure I was comfortable with the pressure etc. My boyfriend said his was ok. We took advantage of the pool and gym which you can use if you book an appt. Go early since when we left in the afternoon the pool was filling up with munchkins. Very clean, relaxing rooms too. Very good service and very professional. My mom and sisters loved their massages. I do however have to comment how I would definitely not come back for a mani pedi. The woman who did my nails was awesome and did a great job and really took her time... but for $126 tip included for NOT having gel, DEFINITELY not worth it. I got my nails done 3 days later because they were already chipping. Definitely come here for a massage or something and utilize the pool area to make it worth your money..
