I arrived in Manhattan with a terrible backache. Because it was near my hotel, I called the Day Spa and they were able to see me right away. I appreciated the cleanliness and the professionalism. Went to this place today for the first time and I loved it! It's simple but clean and has private rooms, and I was greeted with a smile when I arrived. The prices cannot be beat - $55 for 80 minutes?! Yes please! I was going to do an hour but just for a few dollars more you can get 80 minutes. By chance, I got Jason as my masseuse and he was so great and professional. I wanted strong pressure and he did that well without hurting me at all (and I get massages all the time; sometimes they hurt you when you ask for that level of strength). After it was over I felt like I was floating - feeling so great hours later. I will DEFINITELY be back soon and will be asking for Jason again (would love to try the other masseuses as well.) Trust me im a massage hound! I like my massages as strong as they can go, and back walking for most of the massage. Ive been going here for about 5 or more years before it was called by another name. The manager "Linda" is always so nice and is there to greet us. The rooms are ok they are private enough. If you want to go somewhere fancy and pay more and get less help yourself. I sometimes take 3 or 4 people with me and they are always accomidating. There are bars on the ceiling so the massage therapists can hold on while they expertly walk (dance) on your back. These people here are more like healers ..they can scan your back and know exactly where it hurts the most. For 50$ an hour its a bargin for quality qi gong massage. Its in a safe location on the 3rd floor and you need to be buzzed in. Highly recommend you try it for yourself and see this is one of the best the city has to offer. Dont expect anything else but a legitimate massge! This is not that kind of place, its truly for those seeking releif from back pain. They also have an accupuncturist there during the day. You can call them on your way there and they will take you with or even without an appt. Great massage!! My masseuse (if you can even call him that) had about as much skill as a doorknob. Actually, at least a doorknob stays quiet.... this guy spent half the massage chatting in Chinese with others. No technique here.... just random rubbing and probing. I actually left Ocean Bodywork feeling worse physically than when I walked in. This was such a bad experience which got me so upset that I was motivated to write my first-ever Yelp review. I URGE YOU TO AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT. IT IS AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE! I agree with other reviewers. There are so many other places that offer a better experience. 1) I was placed in massage room #1 which was right by the front door. It offered the privilege of hearing the door buzzer which rang when EACH customer had to enter the building from the ground floor. Also, I heard the elevator "bing" each time someone arrived on the floor. And I heard the proprietor shouting orders to each of the workers from the front of the establishment to the back. Not pleasant. 2) I begin a stopwatch each time I get a massage just to make sure I'm getting a full hour. I caught my guy setting the timer for only 55 minutes for my one-hour massage. It's only 5 minutes, I know, but on principle I'm not going to go back to a place that deceives you about the services they offer. read more

few things.... when i arrived, the name of the company was not listed on the front door when i had paged them to let me in--the name on the door was misleading it did not say Spa Next. i called the business and the girl had someone come open the door 10 min. later. The lady who opened the door looked mean and was not welcoming at all. she rarely knew English to begin with. I've had better customer service, the massage was okay, but when she was tipped (i left her a nice tip) she looked at me as if i had 2 heads with no smile, no thank you or nothing. Very achy from walking a ton in NY carrying a heavy backpack. Found this near my hotel and couldn't believe the price of $45 for an hour. Usually pay $100+. Little apprehensive by the cheap price, needing to get buzzed in, and different business name on the door. The massage tables are set up in one large hallway separated only by dividers and curtains. The rooms are private but you can hear anyone next to you getting a massage. It ended up being one of the best most comprehensive massages I've had. The male masseuse was very professional keeping my parts carefully covered except areas being worked on. Even though the $45 offer was for back, he did some work on legs/feet/arms and neck. Strong strokes mixed with deep pressure. Very skilled. Asked periodically if pressure was ok. The front desk woman was pleasant. It was very quiet overall and the "thin" walls not distracting. I've had pain in my right shoulder on and off for about a year now and I try to treat it with massage whenever it's in a lot of pain. I just happened to be in the neighborhood and needed a massage and I found spa next. They had a deal for $45 for an hour of a massage and I figured it would be worth a shot. I didn't realize that i was going to get the best value out of my money imaginable. My masseuse's name was jason and he was amazing. He totally worked out my shoulder and didn't give up. He helped me stretch it out and massaged out all the kinks. He didn't take any short cuts. He was thorough and one of the best masseuses I've ever had. The woman at the front desk was so nice and the area is very relaxing and zen. I really can't say anything negative about this place! I will definitely be a returning customer! I'm so glad I found Spa Next on Yelp. I was looking for a massage place in Midtown that was affordable and clean. It's a hit or miss in the city because you never know what it's going to be like. This place got great reviews on Yelp, and I completely agree. I came in on a Sunday in July with my boyfriend for a couple's massage. We called at 11am and booked an appointment for 3pm. We did the 80min body massage special for $55. It is an amazing deal!! We were in an area (not a room as the walls do not go all the way to the ceiling) that was closed off with a curtain. I was completely comfortable with the amount of privacy. I didn't specify any instructions to my masseuse (unfortunately I don't remember her name), and she didn't ask my preference which I I thought was strange, however the massage ended up being sufficient deep pressure which I like. The entire massage was relaxing except for a couple min in the beginning when she had to leave and go to the front desk to check out another customer. I wouldn't have minded except she didn't add on the extra minutes to the massage. Oh well. I would definitely come back for the price and overall quality. read more

After she massaged me for one hour, back only, when I asked for full body massage, I got the worst headache and I was feeling so nauseous. I'm very sad to write this, as I've been going to Sunlight Bodywork - now called Ocean Bodywork - on and off for years and was very glad to have somewhere to go for a good, basic massage in the neighborhood. I recently gave my husband a reflexology gift certificate as a present. When he presented it at the front desk after his appointment, they tried to insist that we pay $10 extra, since his masseuse had "forgotten" how long his appointment was supposed to last. They argued that their "boss" (I'm pretty sure the other woman present was the manager) would make the masseuse pay out of her own pocket for the extra 15 minutes that she "accidentally" spent. When we explained that a client would and should never be expected to pay for a scheduling mistake, they still argued. I can understand honest mistakes, but we STRONGLY FELT that they were lying, and were trying to take advantage of the relaxed mindset that a person would naturally be in at such a time. I'm very, very sad and disappointed about this. Every time I had gone before, they ALWAYS ASKED, towards the end of the massage, if I wanted to extend the session by 15 minutes or longer. They're likely under new management now, as this sort of thing had never happened before. Time to find a new place. read more
