It's not cheap, on the higher end for sure. Food and service was good! We had the eggplant with pistachios and meatballs for appetizer, the eggplant was really good , unconventional but delicious, the meatballs, not special at all, wouldn't order again, normal everyday meatballs. This was my first visit, along with eight others for our monthly wine group dinner. The restaurant is located at the end of a small strip mall and had been recently expanded, providing for a more open and casual vibe. One of the members of our group is a regular here and this was a showcase event for him...he had warned us that "Rena likes to feed people". This was a spot-on prediction. I spent a few minutes speaking with Rena, the owner (along with her husband who is the chef) and learned of her move from Rome with her children (who now work in the dining room and at a sister restaurant. A remarkably warm and kind lady. She was excited to host and had set the table perfectly for us..extra wine glasses, classy "dump" pitchers, a side table for the ten wines and ice bucket for the white starter and Vin Santo for dessert. Theme was Produttori Barbaresco with focus on single vineyard Riservas from 1967 to 2011. There followed an onslaught of fabulous food, in order: cold antipasto with fresh burrata, bruschetta with fresh tomatoes, grilled octopus, eggplant in a pistachio cream sauce, spaghetti in a light parmesan over which we shaved a 2oz fresh black truffle, wild boar ragu pappardelle, grilled strips of meat and grilled baby lamb chops...we were forced to halt the fish course to Rena's disappointment. Dessert was an amazingly light multi-layer pastry with a pistachio cream that killed with the dessert wine. So stuffed I had to drive from the back seat! I have passed this pls e a million times. Finally friends we were meeting for dinner suggested Spadaro. We had 7:45 reservations, the restaurant was busy. When you first walk in, there's a little market, you can purchase pastas etc. we were seated in the other room. They started us out with an outrageous Italian bread that was toasted and drizzled with olive oil on it. And then a garlic clove was there to spread on top of it. We started with drinks, and 3 appetizers. We had: meat balls, rice balls, and an amazing eggplant. Then we had cod, salmon and the branzino! Spinach and mushrooms were side orders. We ordered 2 deserts to taste. They were made in house and excellent. One was a pistachio cake, the other was a Nutella. Both were great. Service was on point. I've seen this place countless times on my trips up and down Main St. in New Rochelle but it was not until one of my ex-students suggested an unofficial "reunion" dinner there that I visited this gem! No menu! They tell you what's fresh as far as meats, vegetables and fish are concerned and then you tell them how you want it cooked --- the skies the limit. Confused? Not to worry. Rina (our host) will you coach you (as she coached us) through the process and makes spot-on recommendations. We were a party of six. We started with a few appetizers to share amongst us --- an eggplant parmigiana with a pistachio-based sauce that caused one of us to order a take-out dish for his wife, an order of meatballs, fried octopus (never had it but glad I tried it), a fried cauliflower-mash with a great sauce. For dinner we each ordered separately --- a whole-fish branzino (fileted in the kitchen), a salmon dish, a chicken parmigiana, a veal marsala (me), a veal parmigiana and a veal pizzaiola, A family-style rigatoni with ground sausage served as our pasta and each of us ordered a vegetable of some type (Broccoli Rabe was a favorite). Red wine complemented the dinner. No way we could make room for desserts but we did have some coffee/espresso/cappuccino and some Limoncello for a after-dinner cordial. [I took home a cannoli and I wish I had taken home a half-dozen.] Antonio (Rina's husband) is a wizard in the kitchen, cooking all our meals. Always a special meal at Spadaro. Fresh ingredients and a personal touch. They reduced the size of the restaurant to go back to the small intimate setting which I actually prefer. No need for menus as every day has a new menu with a few of the old standby's available every meal. A must have is their eggplant appetizer. This was one of the best dining experiences my husband and I had in a long time and who knew it was right in our beautiful hometown of New Rochelle! We were greeted by the owner, Rena, who welcomed us as if we were in her home. She was so kind and gracious, we honestly felt like old friends! Since it was our first time, we asked for her recommendations. She and her husband, who is the talented chef, are originally from Rome. She recommended the porterhouse steak for two and half portions of pasta plus a pistachio cream eggplant wonder for appetizer. Everything was cooked to perfection. The appetizer was so delicious with the unexpected pairing of that tender eggplant and pistachio crema, oh my goodness, it literally melted in my mouth. Then we moved to the pasta carbonara, silky ribbons of homemade pasta dancing in a rich cream sauce that wasn't too eggy or cheesy just perfect, probably the closest thing to the one we had in Rome last spring. The steak was cooked to perfection, nice tender cut of aged beef that sizzled nicely as butter and juices flowed down the side. We were pretty full by then with leftovers to take home but couldn't resist dessert. We ended the night with her famous white tiramisu and cappuccino, worth every damn calorie! Honestly I felt for those few hours I was transported back to Europe, from the delicious food, the attentive service and the graciousness of our host, all I wanted to do was book my next dinner! Her husband ( Antonio) is the chef ( he is from Rome) and she ( Rena) is the dessert maker! We had charcuterie with porcetta, salami, barata and prosciutto sticks that were like twizzlers. lol A lovely bottle of wine , suggested by our server, Ilena. Chef goes to the market in the morning and gets what can be made fresh. When you arrive they tell you what they can make you. Very close to me and finally paid a visit on weekend noon. Great place for brunch/ lunch as it might be too much for dinner as we think. We made a good choice. The food portion was large and it's full of meat.... lol Great service - the waitress introduced much on the menu to us and made many recommendations too. The food in general was nice. Eggplant was yummy and beef was good too. We didn't finish all and took out some in the end. This is not a cheap place and the price is average. We plan to stop by another time soon. read more

Went here with my family and friends to celebrate my boys' b-day. I understand the restaurant bought add'l space, so it had a lot of room. We had the antipasto and burrata for appetizer, and had parmigiana, cavatelli arugula, pappar bscagiola, fruitti di mare and linguini w/ clam sauce. I thought the overall food was good. I also did consider the prices kind of high, over $20 for most entrees, which is hard to believe for this area of New Rochelle. Though the servings are supposed to be family style, I would say the $64 for the frutti di mare was probably not worth the price. If you stick with the Italian basics, antipasto for appetizer and pastas for dinner, it is probably the more reasonable way to go. Overall, service was fine, though I was there early so the restaurant wasn't too busy. When I asked for a wine recommendation, the server went straight for the most expensive bottles versus what i was looking for, which was medium dry wine. At least he deferred me to someone, I believe the owner's wife, who was able to give me a better recommendation. read more
