    Deluxe Steakburger, too salty!
    Carla S.

Burgers and fries are waaaay too salty. Fries are short and stubby, oily, not crispy enough. The garlic parmesan seasoning on them was nasty, way too heavy. We tossed most of them in the trash. Beef tasted nothing like the steak burgers I know and love (like Freddy's). They don't even smash the beef on the grill. Prices are on the high side. Girl working drive thru spoke so terribly I could not understand a word she said. The only positive thing I can say about this place is it has cool neon signage and 50's diner atmosphere. But the rest sucked.

    Great Ole fashion Cheeseburger.

Every time I pass by a Spangles I am intrigued by the buildings, the colors of lights and just the Ole fashion Diner Look. I had the regular Ole Fashion Cheeseburger with fries and an order of onion rings. I was not disappointed. The burger was exactly what I was expecting, just a yummy flat griddle burger with all the fixings. I was amazed that they don't serve mayo but the do have a mayo/ honey mustard that was interesting and was great with the onion rings. The onion rings were really the star of the show, beautifully made, fresh and hot, seasoned perfectly!

What a cool upbeat place! Fun atmosphere and good food - I would rather eat here than the tired old Wendy's or Cracker Barrel for sure. We stopped on a road trip...after miles and miles of passing over truck stops and it was past 9:45pm. The menu is simple yet covers all the bases - burgers, fries, breakfast items, shakes and a few sandwiches. They even have mini donuts! The ambience is a bright and cheerful 50's diner with neon decor, great old music and lots of John Wayne and Elvis memorabilia on the walls. A full sized Marilyn statue and one of Elvis greet you as you enter...what's not to love about that kind of welcome?! We shared a turkey on sourdough and it was delightful! Generous amounts of turkey and hot wing sauce (tangy & yummy) on the side. Definitely hit the spot! Fries were crisp and fresh and the shakes were great too. Overall this was a FABULOUS stop for a late-evening dinner at a throwback diner with good food fast.

Bagel, Egg & Cheese with Sausage

For fast food, it was a cool place and pretty good. Basically it's styled as a diner, but is more on the fast food spectrum. Expect all kinds of '50's kitsch, related to music, movies and cars. They do serve breakfast, and that is what we stopped in for. I opted for the bagel, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich with sausage, along with the side of hash browns in 'tot' style form. The sandwich was served up piping hot, and the eggs appeared to be freshly cooked, not the pre-made circular egg like product at other chains. Topped off with a little hot sauce, and it was a filling and tasty breakfast. Washed down with one of their orange juice slushies, it was a filling, quick meal. I'd stop in again.

This place blows Marilyn's skirt up

Great service and good food! It stays open late so that was good. We were hungry and on our way back to the hotel.

Maybe a bit silly but thought I'd give context for my rating. Food is amazing. Burgers and fries (& the sauces) are fantastic. Enjoy their pasta salad as well. I've been here numerous times and even ate here 2-3 times a week at one point. My most recent experience was my last and it's still the best burger I've had in a while. That said, I decided to go with a pasta salad instead of fries this most recent time (order still exceeded $20+). I asked for 4 sides of the pecan sauce that they have. I have never had anything like it. I bought it by the bottle several times. The waitress/server/host who took payment and received $3 tip on takeout order (I know, nothing crazy at all, but it wasn't $0 either)-- she had nerve to tell me the sauces are typically just for the fries. Which would have been cool if she still proceeded to get them for me. The sauces aren't big, very small actually so 4 is not some crazy ask for a half pound burger with all the fixings. I had to ask again and tell her that I come here all the time and use the sauce for my burger. (I had a bottle of it still at home but this was a lunch break trip back to the office). All that to say, it wasn't intentional, but it left such a bad taste in my mouth that I haven't been back in over a month. Almost went back today but then still didn't. So left a review. Open to being called petty but I'm a man of principle... oh well... I'm the one missing out at the end of the day but I also took friends and coworkers too. Just goes to show how much these little interactions matter for retaining regular customers regardless of how good food is. But then again, I may be in the minority in terms of how I handled this.

Why do they bother saying you can order them cooked your way? I ordered medium and mine was very well done. Wasn't going to send it back because who knows what happens in the kitchen when you do that? The bun and fixings were fine, but the burger itself was not worth the out-of-the way drive to get there. Fries were OK. Companion had a grilled chicken sandwich, which was reportedly good. If you like a burger that is the least big juicy, I suggest ordering medium rare and see what happens. Otherwise, and this is a positive: nothing fancy, just GOOD. I ordered the #2 Single cheeseburger, my friend had the #5 Double cheeseburger; comes with a side package wrapping of tomato, onion, and lettuce, buns were lightly buttered and toasted. The fries were great and so were the onion rings. Decor was almost museum quality- certainly from a different era: old signs, etc. Friendly and accommodating service. Surprised more people weren't there, but we arrived soon after opening. When we left, people were starting to pour in.

But the thing is, whether you're seeking out nostalgia for the days of old, or wanting to experience that small-town feel for the first time, once the novelty of the atmosphere wears off, you're left with a mediocre hole-in-the-wall that serves edible food. The dishes at Auntie C's are all classic American diner meals, and when I say "all," I mean just that. The menu at Auntie C's is expansive, and while this can seem like a great thing because it offers up a plethora of choices, it also means that nothing is exceptional. I question the true freshness of the ingredients here...the fruits and veggies all taste like they come from a can, and the sauces and gravy all taste like they're frozen and thawed. Everything is perfectly edible and most of it tastes "okay," but I can imagine the people raving about how delicious the food is think salt and pepper are the only spices that exist, because those are pretty much the only spices used here, and almost everything is under-seasoned. Breakfast is by far the best thing to order, and you can get it all day. But be wary of the biscuits, because they frequently are overcooked and dry, and I would avoid anything that's "hand-breaded" unless you want to eat 75% breading. The cream gravy has a good flavor, but they seem to struggle a bit with consistency. While usually being nice and thick, on occasion it has been runny and watered down...that generally happens when a restaurant tries to carry over food from several days ago. That said, the French Toast and Pancakes have never let us down, and things like bacon, eggs and hashbrowns are just hard to mess up. For lunch or dinner, I've never found a meal that I enjoyed much save for the Chicken and Noodles, which are very good. The hamburgers lack proper seasoning and are often overcooked and dry, which leads me to believe they're probably cooked on a broiler...fast and high heat, which would be the correct way to cook a high quality, high fat beef like wagyu, but for lower quality beef that they clearly are using, low and slow would allow the meat to tenderize and retain moisture, and develop a richer flavor. The Mexican options, though few, are honestly pretty gross, so I generally stick to the breakfast menu these days. The deserts, however, are fantastic, and they usually have cookies, fudge and other goodies for sale by the register that are made outside of the restaurant that the kids love. It might seem like I eat there a lot for someone who doesn't seem to like the food, and you'd be partially correct. My mom LOVES Auntie C's, and she loves beef liver, which Auntie C's serves, so we take her there every other week. But what my mom loves about the restaurant is the fact that she's been going there practically since it opened, I think in the early 2000's, and it reminds her of growing up in western KS...she openly admits that the food isn't great, and we probably won't go much when she passes. The atmosphere is kitschy but unique, and the story behind it is cool. Much of the decor has been donated over the years by patrons like my mom, and when you sit in the dining room you can usually hear someone who has spent the last decade or so sitting in the dining room every Sunday bantering with the staff. Aside from the decor, the dining room is a typical diner...too many tables shoved into too small of a space, where you feel like you're sitting on top of the strangers at the table next to you, and someone's rear is constantly in your face as they squeeze through. I can see how the staff can come across as rude at times, but in my experience this is generally when they are busy and they are just hurrying, trying to get their tables taken care of...if you aren't the type who feels the need to treat wait staff like your personal servant and bow to your existence, you shouldn't have an issue. Food generally arrives at the table in a timely manner, and I've never felt ignored or forgotten about. Prices at Auntie C's are very fair for the large portions you get, and though they have had to increase some due to food costs, they aren't gouging you. In fact, 2 people can easily share most of their breakfast dishes if you aren't trying to pack in a days' worth of calories into one meal. All told, the best thing Auntie C's offers is a unique dining experience that I do think is worth checking out, but under it they're serving cafeteria quality food and riding on the coattails of nostalgia. If it weren't for the atmosphere I'd give it fewer stars, because the food by itself doesn't earn 3.
