    the gym shoe.

loved the gym shoe. the owner moe is a very nice guy too. i highly recommend walking in here and getting the gym shoe. it's 2 meals. $16.99 and comes with a can of pop. fries too. you won't need the fries tho, this thing was so big it came in a half sized catering tray. filled with cheese, fried peppers & onions, corned beef, chopped steak, and gyro meat. also came with two sides of tzatziki sauce. they just need to get the bathrooms back up and running. i'll definitely be back.

The fried chicken and mild sauce served here are simply the best in the area. The gym shoes are also worth trying. You can always count on the food being fresh and hot, no matter what time of day you stop by.

This is my new go to greasy spoon and I mean that in the most respectful way. It's actually a term of endearment. It's the word we use to describe a variety of delicious fried foods but trust me that sell a lot more than just fried foods. It sells the comfort food that I remember having growing up in the city. Food items you don't often find in the suburbs. The menu is stupid long. There is so much to choose from. You can get anything from a hot dog or pizza puff to gym shoe sandwich or Italian beef. Don't sleep on their fish and chicken combo. You can get a Maxwell Polish or a Super Taco.Where do you find gyros nachos? You can even keep it simple and get a grilled cheese sandwich. Many things probably sound foreign to many lifetime Suburbanites because you rarely find these choices out here. There are so many things on the menu I can't name them all. Also the ambiance is pretty cool. Not a formal dining room by a long shot. It's what you would expect in a place that sells this kind of food sort of small but the decor and theme is what makes it cool. I always appreciate when I'm waiting for a carry out order that there is something on the walls or in the restaurant to capture my attention so I don't have to be on my phone needlessly. The staff is always pretty cool. I can appreciate the friendliness and casual professionalism especially when my girl is working the register. Warning ordering off of here or any other delivery apps cost more, either call it in or wall in. Lastly, I dropped one star because the catfish filets seemed to have changed from when first started purchasing it. I grew up on catfish so I can tell the difference. It's a whole different texture. I still buy it and enjoy it just not as much as the original. I stopped going to the restaurant across the parking lot just for the fish. Enough from me, you check it out and you be the judge.

Wtf.I'm not gona talk too much shit but why was there a soggy mangled wing under the fresh crispy wings?? See photo. This made me sick to my stomach and I couldn't eat anymore after. Wings- the one I tried was crispy and had a good flavor to it. Beef - chewy and not a "beef" beef Fish sandwich - just a frozen patty Burger - decent Fries - decent. Only went there cuz it was halal. I duno if what I got was halal but. Then again, it prolly wasn't n that's why it was wack!! Staff was nice though Place has potential but needs some extra effort and a new chef! Wamp!

Got a Groupon for the place that I hadn't heard of, I'm glad I did. Service was great and the food was awesome. Got a gyro and a beef/sausage combo. Well worth the trip. The food was fresh and very good. Will definitely be back!!

Nasty Oily catfish with little to no taste will never try again.

Well, this is an update to the review I made 4 years ago. Today was a better experience all around…read more We arrived around 2pm and it was not crowded at all. They added an enclosed outdoor seating area, Thats lets you enjoy the breeze or sun, but protects you from the rain. It used to be a tent, so this is definitely nicer. My wife and I were seated immediately. The server quickly brought us water and garlic bread. I really like that they give you 5 fairly big pieces of garlic bread for only two people. Nice touch. We were not in a hurry and couldn't decide what we wanted so we started with the calamari salad. $29, but it's huge and chock full of those calamari guys. Lettuce is always crisp and has everything I like in it (olives, eggs, carrots, artichoke, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and romaine lettuce). We were almost full just from the salad alone. I ordered a grouper sandwich (not fried), and my lovely wife ordered the Scottish salmon plate, which comes with potatoes and grilled vegetables. My sandwich came with coleslaw and fresh cut fries. They switched to fresh cut since my last visit, and this was an upgrade. My sandwich was great, and huge too. Could not finish it. Wife's meal was a humongous slab of salmon. The veggies now come on a smaller plate, but that's okay, given the size of the fish. Service was a tad slow, but like I said, we weren't in any hurry. Total tab was $100, with tax and that pesky 3% service fee. I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. It's not a place I can go every week, but when I can splurge, and have a taste for fresh seafood, this is the best around.

I looked up highly rated Vietnamese restaurants and found Tasty House 1 in Carol Stream. This place is everything we anticipated it to be. The location is nice and has parking in front, inside is super spacious and had a relaxing and breathable ambiance. We ordered a family appetizer platter that came with all the delicious Vietnamese appetizers like: spring rolls, bbq marinated meat, fried eggrolls, grilled jumbo shrimp, meat wrapped in betel leaf, lettuce, noodles, cucumbers, cabbage, tomatoes, daikon, jalapeños, two dipping sauces: peanut butter hoisin and Vietnamese fish sauce. Another appetizer we got separately was the fried calamari which had a great crunchy texture, the absolute best! For our entrees I decided to build my own pho and chose tripe, rib eye steak and quail eggs. My husband got the spicy beef noodle soup (Bun Bo Hue). This is honestly the best Vietnamese we've ever had in our lives!!!! I'm so glad I found this place. Awesome service, food and atmosphere. Zero complaints everything was very fresh and perfect. Our hearts left super happy.

There is a separate vegan menu with half a dozen things on it, and other than the drinks and desserts, pretty much nothing on the regular menu is vegetarian. (The papaya salad, which is on the vegan menu, is a ringer: it contains fish sauce.) You've got your choice of various fruit lemonades, bubble teas, popping bubble teas, jellies, etc. Desserts include flan, Vietnamese yogurt, coconut jelly - none of which you'll be eating onsite as you'll be too full after your entree. Portions are on the large side - even the papaya salad is a meal. I got the peach lemonade, vegetable spring rolls and the tofu, vegetable and noodles, which turned out to be a soup, basically Vietnamese ramen. The spring rolls are tasty and come with peanut sauce; the vegetable broth was savory with lots of baby bok choy, plenty of noodles and cubes of fried tofu - it was even better with some of the homemade hot sauce, which I highly recommend. The lemonade comes in a bubble tea disposable cup and contains tiny pieces of fruit - very fruity, not very citrusy. Service was friendly and very personable, which helps if you're serving 16 people. All of whom were happy.

First off, the place is very nice looking - feast your eyes on the photos. Angled windows in front, nice table spaces, art at every table, a nice oil candle, and good enough lighting that you can read the menu without wrecking the intimate nature of a booth. The menu (photos attached) is loaded with good stuff. For an appetizer, we selected their Imperial American Wagyu Filet Carpaccio, which came with thinly sliced Wagyu Filet, topped with black truffle, king crab, kaluga caviar, panna grattato, and other tasty stuff. It was served on a white plate with bread, and was incredibly tasty. My wife ordered their Lobster Linguini (on the bill) or Linguini Aragosto on the menu. She enjoyed it very much, and even took some home. On the other hand, I went with their Butcher's Butter Spinalis which was a Ribeye Cap. It was very tender, very tasty, nicely seasoned and cooked as requested at medium rare temperature. With that, we ordered their Rosemary Potatoes, which were "family sized" (enough for two or three) and tasted great. We closed out with a cannoli which was two-sided with two different end preps, which was excellent. To work with all this, I needed a wine which would work for the seafood and the meat, so I selected a Grosjean Pinot Noir, which worked great with both. Service was very very very good - regular checks, food timing was good with each part coming out with enough time to easily finish it before the next course came out. Our waitstaff Ashley kept us watered, and even removed the cork from the wine using a wine key while standing. Nicely done! This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion, or just to go for a nice, relaxed meal. They do store their wine horizontally (like you are supposed to, see the picture) and keep it out of the sun. They also have a deli on the west end with reduced hours, so if you want something I'd suggest going there before you arrive so you don't miss it.

I had some of their cajun pasta and calamari, both were quite small serving sizes for their price. What put me off was adding shrimp to the pasta for 5.99 only to be given exactly five pieces of shrimp. The pasta had nothing cajun about it and served on a big plate to look bigger than it is, far too big for the small table! The pasta itself was nice, however it tasted like grocery store jar alfredo sauce. I've seen the sign for Sea Shack from Route 59 and finally got to try it when my sister was visiting Naperville. I called in an order and it was ready in 15 minutes. What we ordered for 3 adults: 1 lb peeled shrimp, mild, + corn + potatoes 1 lb black mussels, mild, + corn + potatoes 1 lb clams, mild 1 corn on the side 1 sausage on the side onion rings chicken tenders and fries 2 orders of rice We had plenty of food and enough for leftovers. My favorite part might be the cajun butter sauce with white rice... even more than the seafood. I love white rice with basically any sauce. The food was fresh, the sauce was mild as requested, still flavorful and not too salty. If you order the clams on its own, no sides, the bag might seem a little small but that's just because the clam meat is so small. For takeout, your seafood will come double bagged so it was leak proof. We decided to empty the bags into bowls since we were doing family style, and it was a hearty meal. I can't comment on the ambiance since it was a takeout order, but we enjoyed our food. We'll be back!

I grabbed a seat at the bar and waited about 10 minutes before the hostess came over. She politely let me know I needed to remove my hat or leave, even though I was tucked away in the corner. No big deal--I took it off... besides the inevitable hat hair! I was hoping to enjoy a glass of Moët or Dom Pérignon, but they don't offer either by the glass or in splits. The bartender recommended their Cava, and even let me sample it, which I appreciated. The only downside was the tasting glass had just come out of the dishwasher and was still warm, which took away from the experience. I ended up ordering the Cava, and it was a pleasant choice. The bartender recommended the Ahi Tuna Tartare, and it was easily the highlight of the meal. Beautiful presentation with vibrant colors, fresh ahi tuna, creamy avocado, sweet mango, and crispy wonton chips. Every bite was fresh, balanced, and packed with flavor. I would absolutely order it again. For my entrée, I ordered the Red King Crab Legs (half pound) for $88, served with garlic butter and garlic mashed potatoes. The crab itself was very good, but the plate leaned a little too heavily on the garlic for my taste. I asked for regular melted butter instead, and while the bartender happily brought it out, it unfortunately arrived cold. Between the cold butter and all the garlic, I didn't end up finishing the dish. The live piano music was a wonderful touch. She was incredibly talented and added to the upscale atmosphere throughout the evening. The service wasn't the best, but it was solid. There were a few small misses throughout the meal, but nothing that completely ruined the experience. I've been fortunate enough to enjoy seafood all over the country, and while Truluck's is a quality restaurant, I'd still rank Joe's Stone Crab in Chicago, Mama's Fish House in Paia, Hawaii, 555 East Steakhouse in Long Beach, and Swan Oyster Depot in San Francisco ahead of it. Overall, it was an okay dining experience. Nothing was bad, but nothing truly stood out enough to make me want to come back. I'm glad I gave it a try, but based on my personal experience, it just didn't live up to the expectations I had for the price point. 4 out of 5 stars. #TheFoodie99
