Called around to a few places mid Sunday for a somewhat emergent need. The upper unit of my house did not have power but the lower unit did. My elderly uncle lives in the upper unit alone so I was worried. A few places were unable to send someone out until Monday. I contacted Sparky and Sons through their website and scheduled an appointment online. Jerry contacted me and was able to come my house about an hour or so after I scheduled the appointment. He located the potential problem within the first 10 minutes but told me to call HECO to verify and if he needed to, he could come back the following day to fix it if that wasn't the problem. Due to the situation, he said he could not charge me. He said to call or text him when they come and he can help me explain to HECO. A few hours passed and when HECO arrived, I texted Jerry and he responded the next minute! Luckily it was the transformer that was the problem and power was restored! Cannot say enough about the service and quality work provided by Jerry. Contacted him on Sunday...he was booked until Thursday...scheduled him to come by at 2pm. Even provided a free no obligation quote...that was extremely reasonable. We needed him to remove and install 4 new garage lights and check out an outlet that wasn't working. We had those standard 4 foot fluorescent fixtures...and wanted to convert to led ones. On the day of the job...he said he would text when he was on his way...and he did like he promised. I think I would have been able to give them a 5 star review, if I had been able to get the work done. My breaker had sparked, smoked and blew a panel and we were without lights and most of the places I called were giving me 1-2 week wait times. Jerry told me he would be out that day to look at it and come first thing the next day to do the job and his price was super reasonable as well. He seems like a really kind and personable guy. He came to my condo, checked out the situation, and didn't mention that he would need me to prepare or do anything on my end, I assumed all was well. He showed up in the morning and told me he would need to go turn off the power, but to hold off on calling the manager because he wanted to just go and try it himself without dealing with the manager. As the manager explained to me later, our building has a submeter and any tampering he is notified immediately. So of course, the manager came out and asked him what he was doing. Now I don't know for sure what words were exchanged but Jerry almost immediately gathered his things and left the building. The manager then explained to me about the system and I explained that I was not intending to mess with the sub meter, I needed the repair for a hazardous situation with the breaker almost catching on fire, and the manager called the submeter contractor to ask their permission and procedure to do the repair but Jerry was already gone. Again there is fault on all sides in this situation, but if Jerry had taken what I think are standard precautions when working in a condo building (in hindsight I do wonder why he never even mentioned the possibility of getting permission/turning the buildings power off/etc) and if there was a little more time for rational explanation, instead of him just storming off suddenly leaving me without a way to get my lights back on, the day would have ended a lot more nicely for all of us. Now I am looking at a week or two living without lights at night. read more

I had a lot of trouble establishing an appointment, as Sparky's son was ill. It took several phone calls and a lot of stress, as I had vacation rental guests coming in in a couple of days. Sparky indicated that I might want to have a replacement ceiling fan on hand. Hmmm, I thought. Sounds like he's not going to try very hard to fix it. Sure enough. Sparky took the old fan apart and found the problem. No negotiation. In went the new fan. He took off with the old fan and its instruction book. I had no hot water for 5 days because initially I thought it was the water heater that broke, but my plumber told me it's an electrical issue. Our kitchen light was flickering and had some hissing/crackling sounds occasionally. I looked up on Yelp to find an electrician who could fix our problem light, and saw that Sparky & Sons had some pretty good ratings from other customers, so I went ahead and contacted the company. After viewing a video I made of our problem, the owner Jerry said we probably needed to just change the light fixture. He said he would send his son, Clayton, to do the job. He asked if I wanted to choose the fixture as he usually gives the customer that option. However, since I was not familiar with light fixtures, I left the decision to them. He said they would find something that would work & look fine. Prior to his arrival, I got a text message from Clayton that he had purchased the light fixture and was on his way. ( So nice to give us a heads up as to when he was coming!) When Clayton arrived, he went to work quickly and before he even changed the light fixture, he decided to check/test the light switch since he said that could also be the problem. The light switch was fine, so he proceeded to replace our old fixture while testing the wire connections. Clayton was pretty smart in determining what kind of screw to use that best fit our situation which was a canec ceiling. It's an older house, so canec was used when the house was first built. Canec material is like particle board and crumbles when drilled. To provide a more secure installation of the light fixture, Clayton chose to use a "wing type" screw that would secure better than a straight screw. The type of light fixture that Clayton chose at Home Depot, was an LED type. Wow! It wasn't till I read the info on the box that I realized Clayton had made an awesome choice- it was guaranteed for 50,000 hours of continuous use or 45 years!!! Clayton explained that LED type of light lasts longer, runs cheaper and cooler. He saved me money from having to buy and change light bulbs all the time! It didn't take Clayton long to finish the job and when I turned on the kitchen light, it was so nice & bright! My dad & I were pleased with the quick & efficient work that Clayton did. I told him I would recommend him to my friends who are also looking for good electricians and he gave me some business cards I could pass out to my friends. The total work charge for labor & materials was very reasonable and I wouldn't hesitate to call Sparky & Sons again for any more electrical problems that could come up in the future!
