They had a great Memorial day Special/ 4th of July and we got our spa last summer. We had Tyson come up to do some adjustments today and he was so professional and courteous. We worked with Joe who knew the product, was not pushy at all, answered all our questions, and facilitated the build and install. We got a 2026 model Hotspring Jetsetter LX. Best hot tub I have ever been in, super quiet, powerful jets. We use it a few times a week. I was a bit concerned about the power needs of keeping it hot but the insulation is amazing and the heater only comes on for a few minutes every 4 or 5 hours (see the graph from my Tesla power management app). The top is very light but keeps in heat and also the water. Only had to add a bit of water after 3 months! Recommend this equipment and this vendor. I can't comment yet on their warranty service as the product has been flawless. read more

Our electric fireplace stopped working. It turns out that when they put it in two years ago, they never gave us instructions on how to replace batteries inside the fireplace. Cost $195 for a battery change. Add to that that they failed to show up to the first appointment because they forgot to write us in their calendar. That cost waiting for four hours for nothing to happen and having to schedule another appointment. Bad service all around. Followup: I appreciate the owner contacting us right away to clarify the price and share with us the circumstances of being stood up. I really appreciate the follow up. Covid and other unfortunate delays have certainly impacted business, but have not impacted the (exceptional) level of service here. Just got my hot tub after a 12 month wait (which is shorter than most these days). They've been very transparent about timelines and delays, which we appreciated so so much. Once the hot tub was here in Monterey , it was delivered within a week, installed quickly and smoothly and followed up upon to ensure we got to enjoy it as soon as possible. I have owned my Hotsprings Jetsetter for 9 months now and I have to say that I am really happy with the service I have received from John Chism and Spas by the Bay. Ii don't write a lot of reviews, but they just came out to fix something that I screwed up on and didn't charge me. YAY!! (When's the last time that happened??) John is quick to respond, from my first contact about buying a tub to every call or email thereafter -- "How do I fix the Ph?" "How do I drain the tub?" "I think I have something stuck in the filter." You get the picture... He is VERY service oriented, before AND after the sale. I would highly recommend Spas by the Bay, especially John Chism. The ACE Salt Water System is really nice, too! The Jetsetter is a great smaller tub that is big enough for 3 people but doesn't use too much electricity or water. I love it! It is awesome!! We have debated about buying a spa for the last few years. We stopped by on a whim and found the service and attention to detail to be fantastic. From the salesperson, John, to the service person, Oscar, to the owner, Bill - we've had nothing but a positive experience. While the overall purchase went smoothly, we had some issues with the install. Bill jumped right in and made sure that we were satisfied and that the spa was operational as quickly as possible. Every step of the way the staff was answering questions and identifying solutions. My advice would be to communicate timelines and expectations clearly about delivery and install. Everything has come together and I've appreciated the professionalism and help that Spas by the Bay has provided. Not sure that we would be in the market for another spa anytime soon, but I would recommend them as a great place to do business with. I called after hours on a weekend and left a message with a callback number. Within 5 min I received a text and was able to casually schedule service over text. Day of service I got a text confirming I'll be home but I stepped out for a run and not long after I returned I got a text asking me to confirm the temperature was rising and the issue resolved. He had came and resolved the problem without me realizing and It was all pretty seamless. When it was time to pay he was able to take a check, a card and Venmo - I didn't ask about Paypal but bottomline is service was great and the price was fair - I would highly recommend Spas by the Bay! read more

Spas by The Bay did an incredible job, from my first visit to familiarize myself with their products to the delivery and installation of my spa. Excellent service ethic, lovely people! Unlike other places I've been, when I walked in to the showroom, it was a relaxed feel. No pressurizing salespeople. Once we got our bearings and started coming up with questions to ask, John patiently and thoroughly explained the differences between different hot tubs. He gave us honest answers to all our probing questions (like "exactly how much energy is this thing going to suck down?"). We felt very well-attended to here without being smothered or coerced. I bought a very nice spa 5 or 6 years ago. It has been superb. What takes it and this business beyond merely superb is the service. A week ago it stopped heating. Oscar, the service tech, came to fix it on a Friday afternoon, just days before the warranty ran out. He spent almost 4 hours working on it and ended up replacing a number of likely problem parts when his efforts to clear up the calcification failed. It is now working like a new spa. 3/23/12 UPDATE Cavet Emptor--Buyer Beware! Mr. Sullivan, owner of Spas by the Bay, continues after seven months to refuse to honor the suggestion by the spa manufacturer, HotSpring, to return the spa and come to an agreement fair to both me and him. Instead, he has retained an attorney in an attempt to defend the deficient verbal contracting procedure Mr. Sullivan offered at sale which led to an inferior spa than the one I ordered being delivered. I was contacted by another customer of Mr. Sullivan's who stated Mr. Sullivan damaged his spa while making a minor repair so that the spa is now unusable. Mr. Sullivan is threatening this other customer with a lawsuit, rather than taking responsibility for the damage he caused. My recent letter to Mr. Sullivan's attorney follows: Dear...... As you are aware, Mr. Sullivan has lied, fabricated a written contract, defamed me and the contractor and continues to do so, has violated social behavior norms per Yelp administrators, filed a false police report and has apparently made false claims about his award status (Hotspring Dealer of the Year). His crew, as witnesses by others, functioned in a reckless fashion that would have caused injury and damage if the licensed contractor and I had not quickly intervened. Mr. Sullivan is the sole service dealer for our area. It is not reasonable to expose me and my family further to Mr. Sullivan. Further, even prior to the contract fabrication, false police report, ongoing defamation, and Mr. Sullivan's Yelp censure, HotSpring judged we needed to go our separate ways and the spa be returned. The contract is really a non-issue in restoring your client's credibility as a merchant in the community. Of greatest import is his incorrigible stance even to recommendations by his parent company. The fact that he sought an attorney instead of following the advice of HotSpring to do his part to reach a resolution with a customer further discredits him. What consumer would want to knowingly deal with a self-described "stubborm" small businessman who continues to demonstrate such a disregard for his customer? I have been for months trying to cajole your client to an outcome that best suits his needs, mine and the manufacturer. I have also learned that even though spa installers provide suggestion regarding site placement for a spa, provide suggestions for ground preparation and in some cases building a spa into the ground, navigate 700 lb. spas across private property, modify electrical, plumbing and structures of spa and negotiate contracts for $10,000 item sales and installation, they are not licensed or regulated by the state licensing boards, at least in California. As such, there are no insurance or bonding requirements or ready course of redress for unscrupulous spa dealer behavior. read more

About four years ago, my beautiful twenty year + teak wood hot tub expired. I asked an old, retired cranky, high ranking Navy Commander who he recommended: Spas by the Bay. I visited their showroom and told Bill Sullivan, the owner, that I liked a certain model which had a lounge feature. This allows you to lie back in the hot tub. Bill Sullivan told me he would be happy to sell me that model, but that I should know that when people buy their second tub, they choose a tub without that feature. About a year ago, I went in to order a cover assist lift. This is a device that helps you take the cover off, as covers are bulky and heavy, especially on the larger tubs. Bill Sullivan suggested I install the assist lift myself to save his service fee. He assured me it was simple and easy. I ignored his advice. Spas by the Bay understand it is not making the sale that's important. It is making sure the customer keeps coming back, year after year. And that I do. read more

Today I went in to see if I can purchase new head rest cushions. Even though they no longer carry the brand of spa I purchased they are going out of their way to contact the manufacturer and find out how to accomplish this. I am an owner of a one man business managing high end properties for individuals from Saratoga to Big Sur. First and foremost, I require integrity from anyone I purchase from, as my clients require from me. I don't like purchasing from the cheapest or most expensive vendors, but from vendors who's quote are in the bottom third of competitors. After talking to many contractors and sub contractors about where to purchase a Spa in Monterey County, Bill Sullivan's name came up time after time. After reading the negative comments on Yelp from four to five years ago, I thought I would visit and interview Bill myself. After a year of visiting Bill several times while the landscaping was being done, I finally met with Bill again, and glad I did. After my last meeting, I purchased a $10,000 Hot Spring hot tub for my client. Not once did I ever feel pressured to purchase. In fact, it was quite the opposite. He was certainly there to answer questions, as his best skill is having the ability to listen. I was waiting for his "sales close", and he didn't have one. He's not a professional salesman, which is a good thing. He spent time with me to confirm how the platform was going to be built, and made valuable suggestions planning for the install, which will be this upcoming Thursday. I very rarely take the time to write a review, unless they deserve it (Positively or negatively). I bought a spa from Spas by the Bay about a year ago and it is a nice one except that the readable panel burned out so I could not tell what was going on temperature-wise etc. I called them and was assured it would be taken care of as soon as the part came in. In less than a week I was notified the part was in and Shane would be over to install it. I wasn't even home when the job was done, but came home to a well running spa. No bill as it was still under warranty and and no problems with the job done or the replacement part. Great reliable business. My wife and I recently purchased a house in Carmel Valley and we wanted to award ourselves with some kind of housewarming gift. The Sovereign 6 person hot tub by HotSpring was the perfect housewarming gift we could have ever given ourselves! Bill Sullivan and the folks at Spas By The Bay made the hot tub purchase so easy. We were first leaning toward a smaller hot tub, but considering the small price difference we went for the larger 6-person hot tub and we are very happy that we did. We had a licensed electrician install the 220v circuit to the hot tub panel. We made a simple 2x4 pressure treated frame for the pea gravel. It took one truckload (or just over a cubic yard) of pea gravel to fill up the frame. After the hot tub was installed in place we had the electrician hook it up. The hot tub filled with water in about 45 minutes and the 220v heater got it up to temperature in about 6 hours. Our electrical bill has increased by about $20 per month. When the hot tub was unwrapped we noticed that the cover for the filter basin was cracked. This may have happened during storage at the factory or in transit from the factory to Bill's warehouse. Bill delivered the exact same filter cover that day! Bill also installed the cover shelf and walked us through the maintenance procedures. We are very happy with the cover shelf instead of the cover lifter. Overall we are extremely happy with the purchase. We use the hot tub every day. Ours is the sterling shell, espresso cabinet and espresso cover. We chose the espresso stairs with two steps to get in and out of the hot tub. The lights are amazing and the controls are simple. Did I mention that it has a waterfall? Yes! I am looking forward to bringing in my monthly water tests to Spas By The Bay and having Bill and his staff help me with all my hot tub needs.
