Complimentary celebration cake

The service was outstanding and the food was even better. Staff was very tentative and every employee we interacted with was amazing. The experience alone is worth every penny. Would highly recommend trying the crab cakes! They also gave me a complementary celebration cake for my birthday!

The customers service here is incredible, they truly make you feel special. This is an amazing place to come and celebrate. We came here to celebrate my dad's birthday. Lilly took care of our table and she was great. She recommended the Brussel sprouts and I am so happy I got them. I loved that we got to pick items from the social hour and the regular menus. I really enjoyed the charcuterie board, tacos and dessert. My dad loved his steak and my mom the sea bass. I loved all the details from the ballon's on the table, the complimentary starter and palette Cleaners. It was so nice that they would fold your napkin when you would get up and step to the side when you were walking. Truly incredible experience.

Used to go here all the time and loved it and then my daughter moved, Covid and they were no longer on restaurant Week and we just started trying other places. The Social Hour looked really good so finally made my way back for date night on a Friday and did not disappoint. We tried several things on the menu and loved them all. The house Cab was very nice. Service was excellent, definitely ask for Nicholas. I had a Carajillo for a after dinner drink from the bar cart that goes around. Fantastic. Restaurant is still as beautiful as ever. And you can make reservations in the bar area, we will remember that for next time. Posted the menu for description of everything.

Hey Josh & Josh lol I had a reservation here Sunday night, and it was my first time. I took a Lyft, so I didn't notice the parking or the surrounding area, and it was dark when I left, and my ride was at the door I walked in, and the entrance was cute and roomy. I met the host, who had us seated within minutes off to a great start. They were very welcoming. They had TVs by the bar, and it seemed more relaxed around the bar, whereas dining was a bit more formal but still relaxing. The staff was great, and the entire experience was awesome--from the minute we got the menu to the last bite of food. Josh was so attentive and nice, gave us recommendation on the menu What was ordered: Tango mango Strawberry lemon drop shot Tequila old-fashioned Crab cake Lobster tail bite USDA prime tacos NY strip Ora king salmon Crab fried rice Lobster Mac n cheese Brazilian cheese bread Lemon sorbet NY style cheesecake Fragile baby I had to go with bags, but it was so worth it.

I had heard that @jprimesteakhouse has a good happy hour, and yesterday, we tried it out. Social hour is from 4pm to 7pm on weekdays. My brother had the Malbec, I had the Pinot Noir, Hubby had Spill the Tea, and my sister-in-love had a mocktail. The majority of our orders were from the social hour menu: Pineapple Kabob, Beef Carpaccio, Filet Mignon Parrilla, Twin Sliders, East Coast Oysters, and Wedge Salads. There was an initial hiccup with the order of the foods, but the maitre d and Marianna quickly addressed everything. We also ordered the Lollipop Lamb Chops to share. We ended the meal with the Dubai Chocolate Sundae. That was the best, and glad we had many people to share the dessert! So decadent, and the presentation was fancy! Because of the hiccup, they didn't charge us for the wedge salads and a few extra East Coast oysters. Thankful for the classy service!

Celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at J prime. Our waitress. Cee Cee was absolutely delightful. She provided excellent service gave us recommendations on what to eat and of course in true fashion. We ordered way too much food but it was fine. We had leftovers for two days. Everyone made us feel really special for our 30th wedding anniversary and I couldn't think of a better place to celebrate. The attention to detail was excellent.

No complaints about the fabulous steak. This mini pancake thing and a lemon sorbet after the bread was a cool touch - I personally didn't like it since we had just gotten off a plane but I can see why people would enjoy the experience. Taking off a star because we got 4 sides but only 1 really "wow'ed" me - the Brussels sprouts. For the others, the lobster mac was more salty than creamy, the corn didn't impress, and the mushrooms fell flat by not extracting any of the umami flavor.

Tomahawk (center), truffle mac and cheese (top), portobello mushrooms (right)

This was my second time coming to J Prime, and the experience this time was just as lovely as my first time dining here. Service was impeccable, and ambiance matched as well. Onto the food: we started off with the seafood tower, and it was amazing! There were clams, oysters, snow crab, poke, crab salad, and jumbo cocktail shrimps. All the seafood was very fresh, and the plating/presentation was elevated with some dry ice. Next came the beet salad--fresh, well-balanced in flavors, and a good portion. The tomahawk steak was cooked to medium-rare as desired, but the steak itself wasn't seasoned very well. It definitely wasn't the best steak I've ever tasted, and there were also parts of the steak that were tougher than others. However, both of the sides--the truffle macaroni and cheese and the portobello mushrooms in wine sauce--were mouth-wateringly delicious. The meal was concluded with a large slice of their celebration cake, which is yellow cake with cream cheese frosting. The cake was colorful and also very moist--the perfect ending to a great meal.

Cocktail: Puerto Rican Princess
Stephanie F.

J-Prime never disappoints. The Oysters Rockfella are seriously the best I've ever had--so flavorful and cooked just right. The Caesar salad is always spot on, perfectly seasoned and fresh every time. Steaks? Cooked to perfection, exactly how you order them--tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The cocktails are also amazing--balanced, creative, and just strong enough. Personal favorites: Love Letter & Puerto Rican Princess! What really sets J-Prime apart, though, is the service. The staff is super friendly, attentive, and always makes you feel welcome. From start to finish, it's just a great dining experience every single time.

Lauren X.

We can just get it out-of-the-way and say that this place is extremely expensive. But if you're going here, it's not because you're trying to save money, it's because you want a great meal. When celebrating a family milestone this is the spot we chose and it did not disappoint. The A5 Wagyu was just amazing. The East Coast oysters and caviar were delicious. But, the service was what really made it stand out because the staff makes sure you have everything you need and if you let them know that you're celebrating a special occasion, they go out of their way to make it extra special. If you're looking for an upscale, fine, dining experience, then you can't go wrong with this location.

We were right on the river walk, but walked through the entire restaurant on our way to be seated and every bit of it is as lovely as where we ended up sitting. The Riverwalk, however, is a people watching place and so there really isn't any place in this particular restaurant which is not gonna be pleasant. Secondly, the service is exceptional. This is a very busy place. However, the waiter was simply incredible. Very attentive, very informative quite humorous. He was frankly part of the river walk entertainment. Extremely accommodating and instructive as well. You can't hope for much more from a server in Restaurant than this activity. The food is really quite good. How are the drinks. Extremely dependable and the portions are generous and equally wonderful. There are many places to dine in San Antonio. However, this is an experience not to be missed and I mean that quite sincerely. Kudos for a very, very well run well situated and well managed enjoyable place to dine on the river walk in San Antonio.

For starters, we had the French Onion Soup and the Wedge Salad. The soup was good, it was on the sweeter side though which wasn't my favorite. The salad was fresh, crunchy, and light. Definitely a highlight! For the main course, we had the 8oz Filet, 16oz Ribeye, and the Char-Grilled Jumbo Shrimp. This is what made this steakhouse standout to me. Everything was season and cooked to perfection. The side of the Brandy Mushroom Sauce was a great addition to the steak. The Filet was soft, juicy, and just perfect in every bite. The Ribeye was full of flavor and overall was a very good steak. The shrimp was some of the best shrimp I've had. The seasoning was impeccable, it was juicy, and tasty. For sides, we had the Baked Potato and Broccoli. The potato was a 10/10 and you were able to add more or less of what you wanted with the do it yourself style. I loved it! The broccoli was cooked great it was just very saturated in a pool of olive oil. Finally, dessert was a huge highlight and I loved every single bite. We got the Triple Chocolate Double Fudge Brownie. It was like eating a molten lava cake as a brownie. It was soft, gooey, chocolatey, fudgey, and everything you would want from a brownie and so much more. If you have not tried this steakhouse and are in the area of San Antonio, you need to come here because it will not disappoint by any means!

Our twelve guests ranged in age from 14-79 years, and everyone had a wonderful experience. We began with waters for the table, soft drinks, and cocktails/mocktails (Man Walks into a Bar, Amba No. 5, Don Alberto, Green Shug Collins). Due to our large party, we had booked a chef's tasting experience, which was spectacular. The appetizers were plentiful, flavorful, and unique. Our server, Anissa, did a wonderful job of explaining each dish-- its components, highlights, even suggesting that after finishing the beef dumplings, we stir the oil and yogurt together for an amazing pita dipping sauce. Our meal included four meats-- actually five, considering an off menu chef's creation for our pescatarian guest. It was such an immersive experience, I never took out my phone to capture photos of the food (or our group, sadly). Three desserts topped off the evening. Overall, I'd say most of the people in our group probably would not go back, but I don't necessarily think that was because the food was bad or lacking flavor. I think a lot of us just weren't very accustomed to Mediterranean flavor profiles and this style of dining. Most of us really enjoyed the dips, the meats, and the desserts. Those were definitely the standout parts of the meal for our group. Some of the dishes in between were a little more questionable for us personally -- we tried everything, but there wasn't necessarily one specific dish we completely fell in love with. That being said, the experience itself was amazing. The atmosphere was so cool and unlike anything we had done before. Being served course after course and getting to experience so many different dishes made the meal feel really unique and memorable. All of the staff members who waited on us were absolutely fantastic and so understanding of some of our questioning looks while trying unfamiliar foods. Everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made the experience feel fun and comfortable from start to finish. If you already love Mediterranean food, this place may be right up your alley. I just think it's good to know what kind of flavor profiles to expect before coming, especially if you're newer to this type of cuisine. Overall, we still had a great time there.

Earlier in the day I took a walk through the King William neighborhood and stumbled on this beautiful old house with an inviting vibe. We were so glad we came back for dinner. We were a group of five with a reservation and from start to finish the experience was excellent. Our server, Raymond, was personable, friendly, and genuinely great at his job. He gave thoughtful recommendations and made the evening feel relaxed and welcoming. We started by sharing several dishes, all of which were spot on: Pears and Greens salad with lardons, frisée, arugula, radicchio, endive, Danish blue, and bacon vin - $16. Fresh, balanced, and perfect for sharing. Crispy Brussels Sprouts with maple, herbs, pecans, and cotija - $10. Crispy, flavorful, and addictive. Mac and Cheese - $12. Rich, comforting, and well executed. For mains, Raymond steered us in all the right directions: Mustard Glazed Faroe Island Salmon with warm fingerling potatoes, parsnips, mushrooms, frisée, and herb oil - $30. Beautifully cooked and flavorful. Tomatillo Shrimp with grilled Gulf shrimp, white cheddar grit cake, and tomatillo butter - $28. Bold and delicious. Loretta Burger with crispy prosciutto, manchego, arugula, tomato, grilled red onion, and smash sauce on a brioche bun. Choice of fries or tots - $18 (some had tots, and one had fries - tasty). Absolutely nailed it. Queso Fundido Burger with fried chorizo-queso blanco, charred poblano, and cactus salsa verde. Choice of fries or tots - $20. Indulgent in the best way. My dining companions enjoyed a variety of wonderfully prepared cocktails while I stuck with a Topo Chico. I still felt right at home. Overall, Bar Loretta felt like a world away from the tourist-heavy spots along the River Walk. Dining out has gotten so expensive lately and too often the food or service does not justify the price. Bar Loretta delivered on both. Great food, great service, great value. Highly recommend. We would absolutely come back. 5 stars

For 73 years, The Barn Door has been more than a great restaurant; it has been an inexorable piece of San Antonio history. Last week, The Barn Door announced on Facebook that its final day of service will be Sunday, May 11th (Mother's Day). The Barn Door has been an outstanding steakhouse in the truest sense. They've never relied on gimmicks or culinary trends--they've relied on the tried-and-true flavors that have maintained a loyal clientele for decades. I'm taking about hand-cut, primal cuts of beef grilled over real mesquite, delivering that unmistakable South Texas char. I'm referring to plump, wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf Coast, the famous yeast rolls, and tubs of homemade salad dressings. If you've been there, you know how special the overall experience has been. I've read many heartfelt comments on social media asking why such a successful institution would cease operations. Well, dear reader, I have a unique insight into why. Randy Stokes has poured his heart into the restaurant, but he merely leases the building--not the land--from the Straus family. Approximately seven months ago, Mr. Straus decided to sell the dirt beneath the "Barn" to a real estate developer. The plan? To raze this historic site and erect modern condos. It's a familiar story of urban expansion, but it doesn't make the loss any easier to swallow. But before we close the door on "The Barn" forever, a glimmer of hope looms on the horizon. Randy Stokes and his team aren't necessarily hanging up their aprons for good. According to a reliable anonymous source, the team has expressed a desire to reopen The Barn Door at a new location, with eyes set currently on the city's North Side. I hope the promise of a new location comes to fruition, but even if The Barn Door closes forever, I will cherish all the wonderful memories of dining there with my parents and grandparents over the years. I will remember the ingratiating staff, the unique ambience, and the hundreds of delicious meals I've crammed down my gullet.
