I recently dined at J-Prime with my husband to celebrate his birthday. We have been here numerous times since relocating to San Antonio in 2021, and unfortunately, this was the worst. While the food was very good as usual, our overall experience was disappointing because of the customer service we received from the primary female waitress. Her attitude came across as dismissive and unwelcoming throughout our dinner. Her tone and interactions made us feel like an inconvenience. This was very disappointing because we were there to celebrate a special occasion, as we've done numerous times. I want to recognize the male waiter who assisted us throughout the evening. He was wonderful, attentive, and professional. He assisted with our wine and food delivery and provided the level of service we've experienced before and appreciated. Good food is important, but the service and hospitality are equally important to the overall dining experience. I hope management will take my concerns regarding the primary waitress seriously while also recognizing the excellent service provided by the male waiter. We want to continue dining at J-Prime in the future, but hope our next visit reflects the quality of food and service we have come to expect from the restaurant. On the advice of a good friend the suggestion was to try J-Prime Steakhouse's"Social Hour." I have heard about many times but I never found the perfect occasion to try it. But at my age anytime you are over ground is the best occasion. I have heard it is real fancy. And it is. Do not come in Crocs and sweatpants. This is not that restaurant. It is that restaurant where you should make reservations. It is also a place that emphasizes presentation and service. We came right when it opened and we informed the hostess of our reservations. We were seated in the bar area. Once inside I was struck by its ambience. It is sleek, dark and dare say "sexy." Our server, who was extremely attentive came to our table and took our drink orders. My partner ordered an Old Fashioned and me, a Lagunitas IPA. Whilst waiting for our drinks I looked over the room. One thing I noticed was a barrier that separated the bar area and the dining room. The Social Hour is meant, to socialize. I saw couples leaning into each other. Another group were drinking martinis with a seafood tower, almost touching the ceiling. Conversations were had. Romantic glances were exchanged. It isn't a casual place like Bubba's 33 nor Texas Roadhouse. It feels like a place best suited for a date night or an anniversary. I'm wondering how the dining room area is? The Social Hour does offer some drink and small bites specials. We ordered the kabob with pineapple, brussel sprouts, and sliders. They were all pretty great. It reminded me of the same experience as in partaking in tapas. I would remiss if I didn't relay our service here, it was excellent. Our server, Holiday(I hope I spelled it right.) treated us like we were the only patrons there. I've gone to upscale restaurants where staff looks at you up and down. Or they try to size you up. This is not that place. Which was so refreshing. If this place went above and beyond my expectations why didn't I give it four stars? In my opinion I think that a place that creates an upscale experience needs to have a few beers on tap. Even places like Wing Daddy's or Chili's offers a few beers on tap. Secondly, the bar area seating feels a bit tight. I wonder when the dinner crowd arrives would you be in the lap, of someone else's conversation? I still highly recommend this place. The Social Hour area is perfect for a date or an anniversary. The service and food were both excellent. And I've never been to a place where you are given warm hand towels. It reminded me of that scene with Adam Sandler in "The Wedding Singer" minus Billy Idol. read more

NOT ALLERGY SAFE. My review is not based on the food. My wife and I were going to try JPrime for the first time for an anniversary dinner. I called ahead to make sure that their food handlers did not use any latex gloves, which are prohibited by many governments, cities, and industries, due to life threatening allergic reactions. I was assured that they were latex-safe. They use nitrile and vinyl gloves. OK! We're good. But when we arrived there were perhaps hundreds of latex balloons throughout the restaurant, several at each table. No employee knew anything about them, other than that they were rubber balloons bought on Amazon. Rubber is latex As many as 15% of Americans have latex allergies. Symptoms can be as mild as undiagnosed gastro distress, (great for a restaurant's reputation) and as severe as a fatal anphalaxis. A "premium" restaurant should know the risks, avoid these easily-avoided dangers, and protect their guests. Either they did not know, or did not care. Both are unacceptable. read more

This is my second visit to this upscale steakhouse and the second time was even more amazing! The food is some of the best I have had anywhere, but what makes this steakhouse shine is the service. You feel like a celebrity, like royalty. I spend thousands of dollars on vacations abroad, but I could easily plan a weekend around this place and have an equivalent experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. It is a nice place to come with friends for drinks, too. Our server, Ashley, was an absolute dream. She made sure we wanted for nothing and even sent out more chips for our appetizer at the exact moment we intended to ask for some. The customers service here is incredible, they truly make you feel special. This is an amazing place to come and celebrate. We came here to celebrate my dad's birthday. Lilly took care of our table and she was great. She recommended the Brussel sprouts and I am so happy I got them. I loved that we got to pick items from the social hour and the regular menus. I really enjoyed the charcuterie board, tacos and dessert. My dad loved his steak and my mom the sea bass. I loved all the details from the ballon's on the table, the complimentary starter and palette Cleaners. We had dinner at J Prime last night. We were still thinking about how amazing it was this morning. Everything there was amazing and delicious. It's important for people to know that this is a very expensive place. Many people there were celebrating birthdays. I can say that everything we had was the best we've eaten in a while. The steaks are expensive but absolutely delicious. They age the steaks in house for 45 days. The fillets can be cut with a fork. The ribeye was amazing. The service was outstanding. If you can afford a very expensive meal, this is the place to go. The place has a nice ambiance but is full of tables right next to each other. They are giving away these light up balloons to birthday celebrants and the balloons on the table add a bit of sparkle to the atmosphere. read more

I took a Lyft, so I didn't notice the parking or the surrounding area, and it was dark when I left, and my ride was at the door I walked in, and the entrance was cute and roomy. I met the host, who had us seated within minutes off to a great start. They were very welcoming. They had TVs by the bar, and it seemed more relaxed around the bar, whereas dining was a bit more formal but still relaxing. The staff was great, and the entire experience was awesome--from the minute we got the menu to the last bite of food. Used to go here all the time and loved it and then my daughter moved, Covid and they were no longer on restaurant Week and we just started trying other places. The Social Hour looked really good so finally made my way back for date night on a Friday and did not disappoint. We tried several things on the menu and loved them all. The house Cab was very nice. Service was excellent, definitely ask for Nicholas. I had a Carajillo for a after dinner drink from the bar cart that goes around. Fantastic. Restaurant is still as beautiful as ever. I had heard that @jprimesteakhouse has a good happy hour, and yesterday, we tried it out. Social hour is from 4pm to 7pm on weekdays. My brother had the Malbec, I had the Pinot Noir, Hubby had Spill the Tea, and my sister-in-love had a mocktail. The majority of our orders were from the social hour menu: Pineapple Kabob, Beef Carpaccio, Filet Mignon Parrilla, Twin Sliders, East Coast Oysters, and Wedge Salads. There was an initial hiccup with the order of the foods, but the maitre d and Marianna quickly addressed everything. We also ordered the Lollipop Lamb Chops to share. We ended the meal with the Dubai Chocolate Sundae. That was the best, and glad we had many people to share the dessert! So decadent, and the presentation was fancy! Unfortunately what was once my favorite spot for a steak, has become a place that I likely will not return. We go here on special occasions because of the service, atmosphere, and the food is typically worth the price point. In fairness all the food we had was good this evening except for the lamb chops that were overcooked, gristly, and fatty. The poor service was the reason that this meal was a big miss again. I was celebrating my birthday and was put in a section where they were training new servers. Getting a drink was difficult, the food was poorly timed, and they were removing food from the table even though we were still eating. Unfortunately I was not the only table experiencing issues. The manager did comp a portion of the bill and that was appreciated. When my wife and I spend between $300 and $400 on a meal, we expect good service with a price point like this. read more

Celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at J prime. Our waitress. Cee Cee was absolutely delightful. She provided excellent service gave us recommendations on what to eat and of course in true fashion. We ordered way too much food but it was fine. We had leftovers for two days. Went to J-Prime on 1604 last night and was not impressed. Ordered the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly but tasted very bland. Lobster mac&cheese was good. Waitress was very friendly. However waitress in the bar area kept complaining to everyone at the bar waiting for their table that they were in the way. Management has tables crammed into the bar area leaving little room. Overall the restaurant was very crowded and very loud, and food was definitely not worth the price. I'd rather get a much better tasting steak someplace else. read more

This was my second time coming to J Prime, and the experience this time was just as lovely as my first time dining here. Service was impeccable, and ambiance matched as well. Onto the food: we started off with the seafood tower, and it was amazing! There were clams, oysters, snow crab, poke, crab salad, and jumbo cocktail shrimps. All the seafood was very fresh, and the plating/presentation was elevated with some dry ice. Next came the beet salad--fresh, well-balanced in flavors, and a good portion. The tomahawk steak was cooked to medium-rare as desired, but the steak itself wasn't seasoned very well. It definitely wasn't the best steak I've ever tasted, and there were also parts of the steak that were tougher than others. However, both of the sides--the truffle macaroni and cheese and the portobello mushrooms in wine sauce--were mouth-wateringly delicious. The meal was concluded with a large slice of their celebration cake, which is yellow cake with cream cheese frosting. We celebrated my wife and daughter's birthday there tonight and frankly I was blown away. They know how to take care of their customers. We were so thankful to have had Keith as waiting on us. He literally is the best server I have ever had. What a great guy and his service along with others were perfect all evening. The food was simply amazing. When you walk in, it is very dark and intimate with plenty of seating even for large groups. When we were shown to our table, there was a little sign and ballon for me. The server was very nice and explained the menu thoroughly. The steak: a little disappointing because it lacked flavor even though it was Japanese A5. My steak medallions were seasoned well but you only get 4-5 pieces. The restaurant is nice and clean but the service was a little slow. We found ourselves waiting about 15-20 minutes for drinks. It is so rare to find a steakhouse that does steak and sides well. Everything we ate was absolutely fantastic and I'd definitely say this is one of the best steak houses I've been to. I love the nice touch they do for anniversaries (rose and card) and birthdays (gorgeous light string balloon). The crab cake is a MUST. It is STUFFED with so much crab and is the best crab cake I've ever had. This started our meal on an extremely high note. The Caesar salad was so good, not overly dressed, and had a nice smokiness from being lightly charred. The free pao de queijo was so yummy too. I wish the ribeye was a bit better marbled, but the dry aged flavor was lovely. The brussel sprouts were nice and crispy with a nice balsamic dressing. The potatoes au gratin are a MUST. This is first and foremost a celebration restaurant--over 90% of the patrons were celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Patrons were dressed in casual clothes to dressier cocktail attire. I liked that there was a range of outfits. I found that service was professional and courteous but courses arrived slower than molasses. Water glasses remained filled, silverware was replaced, and the table was de-crumbed regularly. The sea bass was ok but it was slightly overdone and I wish there was a less buttery sauce option to help highlight the fish better. After devouring his 8oz filet, a neighboring table got a 16oz ny strip and my husband made a mental note that he'll order that next time. I wish the sides were left whole on the table so that we could serve ourselves. It's a bit pretentious and cumbersome to spoon potato's onto an adult's dinner plate. I didn't get a photo of the beet salad. It was excellent! The celebration cake is an absolute sugar bomb, but I loved the rainbow layers of icing and funfetti cake. I thought the food was fine, but my husband thought it was excellent. It on the expensive end, which I was expecting, but my husband had sticker shock. We had a group of 8 and one of the group had a large gift card so we decided to go. If I could afford it, I'd return very often! The service was impeccable from the hostess to our server and even the folks who remove plates - personable and attentive. The food was amazing. Prior to this visit, I had a 'go to' steak place for special occasions where we've gone for years but J Prime just replaced that place. 6 of has had steak (some ribeye, some NY Strip) and two had the salmon. All were prepared perfectly! It is extremely rare (no pun intended) that when I order a medium-rare steak that it arrives medium-rare; usually over or under done. My steak was absolutely perfectly prepared and the flavor was superb. I tried the salmon (I love salmon but had to order a steak) and it was also perfectly prepared! We had many sides - they are mostly family-style size. Brussels sprouts are not my favorite generally - something I've only found two places that prepare them where I like them. I just found a new #1 - the flavor was awesome and they were not over or under cooked. The asparagus was also perfectly prepared and delicious. The potatoes au gratin were also extremely tasty. The street corn was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone - great flavors. Even the tower of onion rings were perfectly breaded and cooked. Normally we would not have eaten dessert but - we had to. The creme brule was awesome - the caramelization was exactly as it should be served - spot on. The chocolate cake was - massive - three people could easily be fed - and it was very flavorful and moist. The carrot cake - also massive - we felt like we got 1/4 of an entire cake. It was also very very good. So, if you are looking for a place for a special occasion and plan on spending more money than a run of the mill meal out (our bill for 8, including tip, with no alcohol or appetizers, was $1,000) this is THE place to go. read more

Delicious as always! My favorite was the chefs special filet duo. One was with a sauce and the other was Oscar. The Caesar salad was very good, especially the polenta croutons. My husband had the escargot, another treat. His Japanese steak was small but great quality. We had the truffle Mac and cheese, fries, and several sides as a table. Cucumber martini was great. I drove 4 hours from McAllen Texas to celebrate me and my buddies birthdays at J-prim steak house and we got scammed. We choose this restaurant specifically for the Dry Aged steak. As a group that loved dry aged steaks we all ordered dry aged steaks and we all noticed the none of our steaks tasted dry aged. So I asked the waitress on how they dry age their steaks and the response we got is that they don't dry aged their steaks they do a process of wet aged. This so called process made the steaks taste like it was washed no flavor. On top that the price was not worth the food we ate. The Lobster rice we as a group could not take more than 2 bites. The restroom was a disgusting port's potty outside of the restaurant let's say no one clean it for a days read more

I'm sorry to say this review has nothing to do with the food - which is phenomenal and completely deserving of its own review. But the SERVICE - WOW. Seriously. Hands down one of the best experiences I've ever had. There is so much to say about it - but not enough words that can describe with absolute clarity how impressive it was. For me - there was a defining moment, my mother in law who is much older needed to use the restroom, a server noticed she was having a hard time navigating and escorted her all the way to the bathroom. He didn't just point her in the right direction, he guided her. When she returned, a separate server escorted her back to us. It may not seem like a big deal. It had so many chunks of lobster. I tried my sisters wedge salad, and it was so good too. For entrees, majority of us got the 8oz Filet, while my stepmom got the Sea Bass. The filet was soo tender. Every single bite was perfect. We got a few sauces to try with them including the House Steak Sauce, Jafar Sauce and the Hollandaise. The Jafar was perfectly spiced. For sides we tried the Mashed Potatoes, Street Corn, Sautéed Mushrooms and Grilled Vegetables. My favorite was the mushrooms and mashed potatoes. But everything was awesome. They ended the night with 2 GIANT slices of cake for my dad and sister since she celebrated her birthday a few days prior. Even the cakes were perfect.
