After purchasing a set of vintage Bose 901 Series IV from Craigslist I realized they needed some help. They had been re foamed, but not correctly. some drivers were out of alignment and the voice coils scratched in the magnet. Frank said he could repair them but the cost of labor would be much higher than buying and installing exact replacements. we did that with 5 drivers and re cemented the cones on a few others. Avoid like monkey pox! Some years ago (like 15 or so) I called this place and inquired about having my Infinity Moniter Jr's re-foamed. The guy who answered said they could do it, or I could do it myself, as it wasn't too hard. Since these speakers were part of a stereo system my late father had given me as a graduation present, I told him they were special and I'd be more comfortable having it done by a pro. So, I bring them in, drop them off, and the guy says about a week to do the work. I start calling after the week's up and receive an answer maybe a week after that from the guy. He tells me that one woofer couldn't be aligned and was burned out now. I was like "Whaaaat?" Then he tells me he has a drivers which would be equal to the original, and they don't cost too much, so seeing no real option, I agree. Some weeks go by, and finally I get a call saying the speakers are ready. I go in to pick them up, and this guy (It wasn't Frank, but a younger guy) shows me the woofer. It's completely toasted! I mean it REEEKS and I'm surprised it didn't burn. So, anyway not really understanding the ramifications of that, I pay for the new woofers and then, as an afterthought, because it occurred to me that the other woofer was still good, I asked if I could keep the old ones. He paused and gave me a strange look, then said "Sure". Then he offered to help me out with the speakers and we loaded them into my car. "Enjoy" he said, as I got in the car. I was about to drive off, then remembered I wanted the old drivers. So I went back in, and as I came through the door, he was crossing to a side door and I said to him "Hey! I almost forgot the old drivers!" Without a glance at me, he went through the side door and slammed it shut. HARD! So I went to the repair counter and asked the other guy there about the drivers, who brought them out, and I left. But that guys behavior made me think, what just happened? In retrospect, pretty obvious. That guy cannibalized my vintage drivers and sold me new ones. Those drivers are great, high quality and command a high value. He hadn't anticipated me asking to keep the old ones... Spoiled his little scheme there. So much for the graduation gift from my late father.... read more

Speaker City is a neighborhood gem. My husband discovered this place when we were remodeling our house years ago. Yes, our house was wired for surround sound for the living room T.V., music speakers for the kitchen and patio and there the wires sat for years. Fast forward to about a month ago when we stopped by to check out our options. Mind you, my husband, who's very thorough, had been looking at speakers elsewhere on and off. He had done his research. We were greeted by Frank who asked us what we were looking for. He patiently went through the options without trying to up sell us. We listened to the speakers as he explained why one was better than the other and also why you wouldn't need the most expensive speakers for the rear surround sound speakers. We went went back and forth between all of the options. We ended up ordering one set as they weren't in stock. A couple weeks later we went back to pick up the initial order. This time we met Nick. We wanted to compare the other speakers again. Nick was just as patient and really knowledgable. We went through the whole exercise of listening to the options. You can really hear the difference between the different qualities and the higher the price does not equate to the better quality of sound depending on what you're listening to. My designer friend, Matteo Bitetti recommended that we contact these guys since they are the best. Frank and his assistant came over to our Downtown LA loft and they did an amazing job in calibrating the speakers since we love watching films on our LCD Projector and we were having difficulty hearing the films properly and we both already have a slight hearing issue. Frank is the best he knows his speakers and suggested we think about upgrading to the SONO's down the road which may happen, but for now he fixed the issue and we are very grateful. They provided excellent service and a reasonable price as well. We even got an Ethernet cable so now we have Pandora on our TV as well which I love since I am a mixed media artist and need some music for inspiration and great sound. I cannot say enough about these guys! Frank is the real deal. He knows his stuff and Nick is also very knowledgeable and both possess rare customer service skills. I have an old pair of Cambridge Soundworks T-300 Tower speakers with built-in Subwoofers and one of the internal power amps blew and the manufacturer no longer produces them so, Frank was able to re-run the lines to an external port and I bought a power amp which works just like before the internal amplifier blew. They offer great advice even if its not what you want to hear. They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Had an M&K mx250 sub checked out for a loud buzzing noise. He opened it up, cleaned the transistors and just charged me for inspection. Other places will charge for inspection, labor and storage! Ridiculous... First off yep, they got speaker parts, lots of them. I've been able to fix up a bunch of old speakers with the exact parts for them, and for cheap. There's a guy there who works in the back and he's crazy nice, super helpful, funny and he's helped me out a ton saving me money. The guy who now owns this place, at least from what I understand it's him is rude as hell, not nice, not helpful and it makes me wish there was another place to buy this stuff but I'm stuck so I keep going back. I wanted my new flat screen T.V. mounted above my brick fireplace. Frank offered me a variety of options to suit my needs. Once I decided, Frank came to my home with everything that was needed and set it up perfectly. I am so happy with the work they did. The cable company came after I had it set up, and they were blown away buy how seamless the finished installation looks. Which speaks volumes about the quality of Speaker City's work. No one see's as many installations as the cable providers I am a little bit of a perfectionist, when it comes to getting things done right. But Frank is even more so, he measured re-measured and adjusted the mount until he got it perfect. However that would have been faster if I heeded his advice and went with one of the mounts he recommended, rather than going against his recommendation. EPIC FAIL. Similar story to an another reviewer here. Dropped my mixer off to be repaired in November. Heard nothing for several weeks. Called repeatedly until I was told the part was "on order" from the manufacturer. Several more weeks passed, no calls, no updates, nothing. Finally, literally THREE months later (no exaggeration here) I'm left a message stating the manufacturer "no longer carries the necessary parts and that there was nothing to be done, but that they would happily "dispose of the mixer, in pieces" for me if I didn't want to come retrieve it. Initially they were also demanding I pay the bench fee of $85 for the diagnostic work they'd put in, which I flatly refused, and they backed off. Finally retrieved my broken mixer today in the same state I brought it in to them over 3 months ago. Poor customer service, poor communication, and ultimately a TREMENDOUS waste of my time and money, as I had to work and purchase a new mixer to replace the old one. read more
