I have used them for a number of years now because they care about my older car and list any functional problems they note that may need attention, even with my routine lube and oil inspections. You can wait for a small repair or be given a complimentary Lyft ride for larger ones. Your car will be delivered to you sparkling clean after a complimentary car wash. Specialized Auto is always busy but their staff are very professional and courteous, especially their management in case of any concerns. Brought my Mercedes Benz in for service for the first time. They did the same service as the dealership does and for half the price. Their staff is very nice and helpful. Took my BMW in for an oil change a while back when the light came on. Had my car all day, got it back, everything seemed fine. A week later, my oil light was back on. Had a different mechanic check the oil and it was already black. This would not be the case IF they had actually changed the oil. After a different mechanic changed the oil again 2 weeks later, I was able to drive another 10,000 miles before it came on again. Anyone with half a brain can see that they charged me for an oil change they didn't do... Won't be taking my car there again and don't suggest you do if you don't want to do the work again. read more

I took it back for a second time and then my check engine light came on and I was given a quote for over a thousand dollars worth of stuff that was supposedly wrong with my car. I can't understand why my review keeps disappearing from Yelp! these guys did an oil change on my VW in March 2019 and forgot to replace my engine cover! Because of COVID 19 I did not drive the car much a did not open the hood until June. When I wet to check the oil recently I noticed the engine cover was missing so I called specialized and low and behold the cover was still there after 3 months Here is the question if you found a customers part sitting in your shop for a couple of days wouldn't you ponder where it came from? I purchased a VW last fall and found out from my mechanic, Dave at Toriumi's, that he doesn't service VWs! He's a great mechanic and I was bummed, but he referred me to Aaron at Specialized Auto. I took the car in for servicing today. The vibe is great the minute you walk through the door. There's ample parking, the reception area is clean and well-decorated. I was warmly greeted by Doug, who explained that the oil change would include a thorough inspection and how much it would cost. I left feeling confident my car was in good hands. Doug called a few hours later to recommend a couple of things. We discussed all of my options. He provided all the information I needed to feel good about my decision. The car was ready early and the price was as quoted and fair. I got to meet Aaron, who was also warm and professional. Because I purchased the car used, I was grateful to hear that the car is in excellent condition. I just couldn't be more pleased. I plan to take great care of this car and I'm so happy to have a trustworthy shop nearby to help me do that. read more

This review is based on one experience. I bought a set of four tires. Specialized Auto and Fleet is an authorized Michelin tire dealer. After experimentation over the years, I found that Michelins, while somewhat more expensive than the average tire, are worth it. They are consistently the most reliable and provide good durability. I talked on the phone to a patient and knowledgeable person there who seemed honest. He said the 60,000 mile guarantee was unrealistic - for example someone who drives highway 17 five times a week. He gave me a price and did not pressure me in anyway. I said I would call back when I could arrange the time. He told me to give 2-3 days advance warning since they didn't stock my model. When I called to arrange an appoitment, he asked me if I could come in on Friday. That would give him two days to get the tires in. I expected to pay in advance. I asked if half payment would be ok. He said it was. Went I brought them the car at 8:30 Friday, I asked how long to install the tires. They said about an hour. Then they had me sign an estimate. It was to the same price as I had been quoted over the phone - to the penny. The total price was about $15 dollars less than I had been quoted at Lloyds Tire on River St. in Santa Cruz. (The Lloyd brothers sold their business two or three years ago). I sat in their waiting room and chatted with another customer while I drank some of their Kuerig coffee. They finished in 45 minutes. Then I paid and went outside to check that they had installed the size and model tire I requested. They had. I can't comment on Specialized auto repair, which is a much different business than selling tires. For that, check the other reviews. If I find a problem with the tires or the installation and they don't stand behind my purchase, I will change this review. For now, it is 5 star. read more

About a year ago we took my wife's car in to have the windshield sprayer nozzle replaced. $200 later we got the car back and discovered that they'd replaced the nozzle but the sprayer didn't work. Obviously they didn't even test it. Took it back and they discovered that the hose had been crimped. If they had tested it in the first place we wouldn't have had to go back. Recently I took my car in for an issue that I couldn't diagnose with the engine or transmission. Their diagnosis was that my Mercedes with 36,000 miles needed the transmission overhauled - Estimate: $5,5000. I decided to get a second opinion so I took my car to the Mercedes dealer in Monterey. Instead of a transmission overhaul @ $5,500, a transmission service -- done while I waited -- ended up costing about $500. The engine also had an oil leak. Specialized said the oil was coming from two plugs on the engine and it would take some time to disassemble the engine compartment to reach the plugs. Estimate - $400. The Mercedes dealer fixed the leak for about $110 while I waited. They seem to be nice folks but I would most certainly get a second estimate on any work that you are thinking about having them do. read more

My radiator attachment to hose separated. My husband had a gd experience with them in the past but we will never go back after my experience. My husband had them change my oil and check all the fluids. They said the transmission fluid was very dark and needed to be changed. My dad a medal of Valor retired CHP and owner of 3 napa stores and very gd mechanic. Told me they were way over priced and to just get my car out of there. We got my car home. I with my husband checked the transmission fluid it did not even register. We couldn't believe it checked it multiple times. He took my car back. No apologies. Plus the seal on my radiator they just replaced. The seal on the cap was leaking. ???? After all that no apologies just another bill for there uncompleted work. I never ever complain but even my father was upset on how they could let me drive off with what was wrong. I drive around with my grandchildren 1 who is disabled. The thought of breaking down with my grand babies in the car would be devastating. Be so careful taking your car there read more

Robert Emmert.... BAR and BBB WORST SHOP IN UNITED STATES.... .DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE. I have just spent $2500 just to have my car towed out. DOUG SHOULD BE FIRED! he is dishonest, negligent and his word means less than his service. my car was returned with no oil. And running in less condition than was taken in. On many occasions he would advise his co worker to relay message that he was noT in, when clearly he was. I've seen it with my own eyes and ears. Notably same message was given to me when I would call. Took them 1 week just to look at it. Another week for a plug to come in, another week for a timing tool needed, was ordered. Car would be sitting outside instead of being worked on. Maybe he hates Mexicans. Had me replace intake manifold, when all was needed was a gasket. Doug will lie just to have u spend $ on parts you don't need teplaced. I HAVE ASKED TO SPEAk WITH MANAGER... which DOUG has replied " ILL HAVE HIM CALL YOU" ... and as Doug's word..... no call back from manager. I have written and mailed a certified letter to Robert Emmert. And I have now notified BAR and the BBB. read more

I am a returning customer going on 3 years now. I have had some major repairs done to my vehicle. Prices at times can be high, but that's what you "pay" to have trusted work done to your vehicle. HOWEVER. I returned today because my rear passenger door would not open and the same door window wouldn't go up/down. I was quoted $226 to only remove the door panel and diagnose why the door and window wasn't working. All issues on the same door. I told my dad (retired mechanic) who I try not to bother and he couldn't believe it. $226 to remove 1 door panel and look at 2 issues that were behind the same door. Not including labor to remove, replace and cover new parts. My father had me pick up my car, ordered my window regulator $85 and repaired it within 1 hour the same day. An hour! I am disappointed with the company making me as a women feel taken advantaged of after being a customer and knowing what to expect. I had an excellent experience with this shop and plan to bring my mini here next time it needs servicing or, heaven forbid, work. My new to me mini was making a loud noise in the engine. After being treated rather rudely by the dealership where I bought it, I brought it to Specialized Auto on the recommendation of a friend. They were able to fit me in right away, agreed that the noise really wasn't normal for a mini, kept it for a few hours, and were able to diagnose it as a loose heat shield. They fastened it down better, so it is less loud, but most importantly, I now know that the noise is not engine threatening. I really appreciated their quick, courteous service. Also, they have a shuttle service so that I was able to return home and continue with my day. And, when I picked up my mini, it had been washed, and boy did it need it. read more

Aaron at specialized was so cool!!! He arranged once I got to the shop to give me a ride home or come get me when the car was done which I thought was really cool. They were very knowledgable about the vehicle and took me step for step on pricing as we circled in on the problem. They think outside the box to come up with cheaper alternatives for you and there work holds up, if not I'm positive they would stand by there word. Please don't go here unless your looking to waste your money.I manage a fleet of vehicles and really like the scheduling and ability to leave the vehicle, I really want to make this my shop of choice. With that being said actions don't match words, I have now had 4 experiences with 4 separate vehicles where I explain my problem. I pay for the diagnosis, attempt to fix the problem (always costing in the 2-3 k range), problem is still there I take it back they double check there work, they verify they did things right. I let it slide the first couple times feeling as though maybe I misunderstood. I realize they have a group of great salesmen that, sweet talk their way out of any situation. I drew the line when they left me with an unsafe vehicle. I believe there mechanics that are executing the work to be hacks and there quality control to be non existent. They must pay sales and management really good in order to lie for there mechanics. I wish they looked for a higher quality skill level for the people actually executing work. I am embarrassed that I had recommended people before I found out what they are all about. read more

I want to write a shout out to Specialized for going above and beyond the call of duty to help my friend, a woman who was (I say "was" because now she will be) not even a customer. She was being scammed by Ocean Honda as they were trying to tell her she needed large, expensive repairs that "might not be covered if we determine that you caused the damage". Without going into all the details (you can read about it on Ocean Honda's Yelp) I spoke with Aaron at Specialized on behalf of my friend and he said that they would be happy to look at the car for her, at no charge, to see if the repairs were needed. They found that, while one of the repairs was legitimate, another repair Ocean Honda had told her she needed was not legitimate. Aaron then personally drove the car back to Ocean Honda and took care of making sure the repair would be covered. Again, not a penny was charged! They have maintained our cars for many years and we know them to be honest and dependable! Thank you Aaron and Specialized for your awesome customer service. You've gained a new customer! read more

I'm leaving 5 starts because overall I've had very good interactions with this shop, I think that they are honest people, stand behind the work they do, and will bend over backward to make you happy. I took in a Sprinter here to get a full diagnostic checkup and to replace the brakes, calipers, and rotors in January. I didn't have a ride back to Santa Cruz, but Aaron arranged for one of the mechanics to drive me back at a moment's notice when I decided to leave my car at the shop. That's a great service that not many shops provide. They even offered to pick me up the next day. The repair had a fast turnaround time and I got the car back the next day. A check engine light came on during my drive back home, and Aaron was happy to read the codes for free and diagnosed the problem immediately. The problem wasn't related to the service and did not affect the engine performance or longevity. A week later I noticed a diesel smell coming from the engine (unrelated to the check engine light). I did not take the van back to Specialized Auto, but instead had another mechanic shop diagnose the problem and complete the repair. The repair overlapped with the previous work done at Specialized Auto, and Aaron gave me a full refund on the parts and labor that they performed on the engine in January, despite the fact that another mechanic shop did the work. I was blown away by this gesture and thought it was more than fair, even generous on Aaron's part. Their prices are competitive with other shops in the area after getting quotes for various repairs from different mechanics. After all these interactions, I highly recommend Specialized Auto for your luxury, European, or, well, specialized cars! read more

We had brought my Volvo that needed various services and also had a power steering issue to Specialized Auto. They quoted my husband a price "for everything" and then when I went in they gave me a much larger dollar amount and said that my husband "just didnt understand", yet I had paperwork to prove it. When I got the car back it wasn't even washed which you normally get when any car is serviced at a dealership and the steering was much worse than it was when I brought it in. They were also supposed to replace a head light, they said they had to special order it and then after having my car for more than a few days gave it back to me with it not replaced. When questioned, they said they used it on another vehicle...so I brought the car in yet again, and they replaced it but as i was driving home the head light malfunction light comes on. In short, we felt as though after we spent so much money, we had to keep coming back for their mistakes, and each time we did we felt as though we were burdening them!! I took my honda crv here for a smog. They told me I needed new rear brakes. I thought I would give them a try as a new mechanic - bad idea. When I brought my car back for the brakes, my husband also brought his truck in to have it smogged (since he had to give me a ride). Another bad idea. Someone here did something to the inside door handle and broke it. They would not admit to it or apologize - they made him feel stupid. As for my honda, they fixed the brakes, but added a new noise. When I took it back to have them check the noise, they said it sounded like the transmission though the only time it makes the noise is when you put the brakes on? It also seems very funny the noise started only after they worked on the brakes? I would not recommend them to anyone. I will be going back to my old mechanic - Branciforte Auto - al ittle more expensive but ohhh so trustworthy. My vote is to stay away from this place. read more

This shop is the best. They are the most reliable, fair, and do quality work. I have been bringing my three cars here since 2008 and I have had a great experience all the while. They are very honest and very fair with their pricing and the costs are always at or below the estimate, so there are no surprises. They are extremely quick--I oftentimes get my car diagnosed and repaired the same day--and their time estimates are usually spot on and reliable as well. Importantly, they do quality work. I have yet to have to return my car following a repair--they always fix things correctly and leave the car cleaner (a wash is included) than it comes in. Finally, their communications are thorough, in that they keep me apprised of the status of the work and let me know what they found/did, and reliable--they always get back to me when I call if they don't answer the first time (I don't have to call more than once!). I am very grateful to have Aaron and his team at Specialized around--they make me not stress about car stuff as I know my cars and I are in good hands. read more
