I have known about Cynergy for a while. They are the place for all things Specialized bicycle. Before this, I had only been in for a test ride and was treated very well. I had an odd warranty issue that some other Specialized dealers couldn't handle. I took it to Cynergy and from the moment I contacted them it was smooth sailing. The guys In the service department are top notch and Matt is an absolute gentleman and a pleasure to deal with. He went above and beyond for me in so many ways. He really knows how to make you feel like a valued customer. Another of the mechanics, Brandon also took extra time and care with me and my bike. I would recommend them for any bike needs. I really had a great experience. I've been going to bike shops for nearly 40 years and the current staff at Cynergy is among the best I've ever dealt with. They understand what customer satisfaction is all about. It's really nice to have such an excellent customer experience at a retail establishment. On top of that Specialized lifetime frame warranty is no joke. They are an outstanding example of a brand who wants to hold on to its loyal customers. The folks at Specialized in Costa Mesa have been very helpful keeping me and my Roubaix on the road. I am a larger rider and tend to wear out bike parts at an accelerated rate. The mechanic team, especially Steve Berg have been very responsive to my repair needs. In the most recent incident with the stock wheel set failure the team worked to get me an equitable fix and got me back in the road in a timely manner. All this support and I didn't even buy the bike from them. They stand behind the Specialized product no matter where purchased. I just realized I posted this review on the wrong page. I was looking to purchase a hard to find bicycle. I located the bike at Cynergy cycles and called the store. The sales person that answered was super friendly and went out of his way to find the bike in a box. I drove down and the bike wasn't built but the manager dropped what he was doing to build it. I was super impressed with not only how clean the shop was but really with the "old school" bike shop customer service. For someone who uses a bike primarily to bike to work and payed $62 for a tire change, not so much. That would be me. I had blown a tire and needed a new tube as well, and this was the only store I could walk my bike to. So they set it up and changed the tire and tube just fine, but they gave me no heads-up as to the $10 charge to change the tire, or the cost of the parts. There were very few options as far as tires went, and I feel like I ended up getting swept into a more expensive one than I needed. They didn't discuss tube thickness options with me either. I think that I will have to hit up the Bikerowave in Venice next time for what I'm looking for. read more

The lack of knowledge about their own bikes is baffling... I went there to get more information about their electric mountain bikes. The salesman I talked to was unable to answer simple questions about the difference between 2 of their models and started to check their website (they only sell one brand = they should know everything about their bikes + I do not need them to visit their website). After sharing my surprise with the guy, he told me he was only riding road bike and did not know much about MTB. I politely asked if I could talk to someone more knowledgeable to which he answered than only the people in maintenance knew about it and that they did not have the time to talk to me... Well I was ready to spend close to $16,000 on two bike for my wife and I, I guess I will go somewhere where they take 5 minutes to answer simple questions! I went to Helen's Cycles that is 2 minutes away and the experience was radically different, even though they have dozens of brands! read more

i have had some of my road bikes serviced here and they did a great job. Told all my friends about this place. Told them how much nicer they were than other bike shops and what a great job they do. Told them how they care about your patronage to the store and appreciate your business . I was riding my old beach cruiser down to the pier this past sunday when the chain snapped. I was a block away and thought i would stop in and have them help me out and put a new chain on or do a quick fix so i could get home. I was then told by the staff that they don't work on beach cruisers. i said i just need the chain fixed so i could get home. He said we don't work on beach cruisers. I said i have spent quite a bit of cash in this place and he responded with, " WE DONT WORK ON BEACH CRUISERS " Very disappointed . read more

Let me make it very simple: You are not doing me a favor by helping me. I am doing YOU a favor by spending my money at your store. If you do nothing else, make sure everyone at your store reads the above sentence and checks themselves or Helen's, and now Tri Lab are going to vacuum up all the high-end cycling dollars out of the Westside and leave you packing up a lot of nice cycling gear. Not a bad shop. Mechanics were good. Sale techniques were questionable: I was considering to buy a BMC bike. The sales really wanted me to take it for a test ride. Great idea, but he wants money for it. He quoted me $125 for the weekend. When I came back to rent the demo bike, they wanted $125 EACH DAY of the weekend. Take it on Friday, return on Monday, yes, $500, for a weekend demo, on a $2,000 bike. Yes, I am sure some would be credited towards the purchase, but what is meaning of a DEMO? Sorry, it was not a very good/smart business proposition. What did I do, went to another bike shop and demoed a Specialized Tarmac for $50 for the entire weekend. P.S. Just for the readers to know, Helen's down the street let me demo some Italian bikes, each one above 5 digits, for multiple afternoons without even asking for my driver's license or a credit card. That is a demo for customers. Word of advice to Cynergy: when a customer is ready to spend money to purchase a bike, don't come up with smart ideas trying to suck every penny from them. If you want to feel like family, come here. There are many other bike shops in the area, but no others make me feel like I am buying mom-and-pop but still getting top knotch service. The sales reps do not work on commission, so they are just friendly, helpful, and awesome. I come in to do rides on Sundays once in awhile through a loosely-associated Team A2B cycling group for women, and the sales clerks REMEMBER ME. "Hi Tiffany!" -- you just don't get that kind of service anymore. They have a lot of Specialized bikes, and they have a decent selection of clothing. I scored a women's tank jersey for $10. What a deal! They often have sidewalk sales too, where everthing is just so cheap! (read, dangerous to my wallet). I bought my road bike here, and could not be happier. They have a 30 day maintenance check for free, make sure you bring your bike back. Anytime I buy an accessory, they install it right away for me. So awesome. And then they offer to ride with me if I ever need a riding buddy. Yes, all of the clerks, repair guys, etc. ride, so they know what they are talking about. It seriously just does not get better than this, in terms of friendliness, product, service, and overall awesomeness. And to top that, if you are doing some of the bigger rides (like Aids LifeCycle) they offer a great discount! read more

I came by here when shopping for road bikes and was greatly disappointed by the lack of customer service. I was just getting into road biking and was hesitant to plop down over $1,000 for a bike. The salesperson at the time seemed snotty and didn't take my situation seriously. I left and ended up buying a bike from Helen's in Manhattan Beach. I have since found Helen's stores to provide good service before and after the sale. I will not be coming back to Cynergy anytime soon. read more

When Supergo was bought out by Performance a couple of years back, the Specialized brand, which Supergo carried but Performance did not, got dropped and needed a new home in the area. Enter Cynergy. This is a Specialized concept store, so that's primarily what you get when it comes to bicycles, clothing, and accessories. Specialized ain't a bad brand, though, so that's not a complaint. But they also carry Bianchi and Nirve bikes so there's something for everyone. The shop itself is a very flashy and shiny layout. Perhaps too much so for my own personal tastes, but a nice shop nonetheless that exhibits the beauty of the bikes they carry and the fun of the sport in general. The employees were extremely friendly and helpful when I stopped by which is always a major plus when it comes to bike shops. I've only been a couple of times so can't relate too much of my own experience, but every story I've heard about the place has been positive and has shown that the employees here really go the extra mile for their customers. read more

Was ignored for 25 minutes while I strolled around the store, finally got a little bit of help and he just pointed to the Langsters up on the rack, and that was that. I bought a bike online, instead. Came back once I had my bike, and received not-so-helpful advice on buying a lock. If you load your $2000 bike into your SUV for a weekend ride in spandex, then this is your shop. We'll see what the long term outcome of my bike repair is... but very impressed with my first visit here. I asked the cashier where the repair area was, she pointed me in the direction, but had even called back to give the guy a heads up to look for me. As I get there, I meet Tim who took as much time to answer all my questions regarding a spoke on my wheel that has been breaking repeatedly. I've been to I Martin 3x's for the same repair, and despite asking questions each time, I was given more attention in my 1 visit here. Carefully looking things over, we discovered that the tension along the spokes was really uneven. Really tight on one side, loose on the other. Means the guys who were "repairing" my bike at I Martin were probably only dealing with the immediately neighboring spokes vs making sure they were all ok. Gave me a good estimate of all my options... I decided to go the economical way this time only repairing the broken spoke, and asking to make sure to adjust the tension along the other ones... $30. If it does happen to break again, I'll probably end up just re-spoking the whole wheel.... but for sure it'll be this shop, and not I Martin. I just wish this place was closer to home... UPDATE: Holy Crap! Finished in a day! They called me to let me know it was done WAY sooner than they anticipated... instead of me having to call and find out, or no call at all.... Not only that, given that we talked about wheels, Tim said he'd have some prices on wheels in cases I was interested. I asked about stems, and of course he offered a list of prices on these as well. I went to 6 bike stores total in the last couple of weeks and I must say, this bike store had the best service out of all of them. I went to: Wheel World (Culver City) I Martin (Santa Monica) Helens (Manhattan Beach) REI (Manhattan Beach) Electric Bikes LA (Manhattan Beach) This place was so much better in service and knowledge than the other ones above. Not only are they the friendliest but they were the most diligent with the customer by far. I think Kurt was my salesperson and out of the multiple stores I went to, he took more than an hour showing me 5 different bikes to ride to try to narrow my choices. He went way out of his way to give me his past experience and even bike company history to translate into the type of quality the different bikes represent. There was no pressure whatsoever to buy. He was totally honest and even pointed me to other competing stores to try other brands. I feel like this was the most trusted place out of them all. If you need to know about your bikes, come here. They're not the cheapest but they'll price match and I think you should just buy it here due to how well they treat their customers. Totally impressed. read more

While my father is a regular fixture on the amateur pro circuit and owns no less than six bikes, one of which is custom-made, my knowledge of bikes remains shamefully wee. However, I am always fond of bike people, and am always conscious when driving because I do not want to smoosh one of my dad's brethren with my warm death machine, or open my door too fast, or anything else that would be incredibly inconsiderate and/or bone-breaking. Anyway, yesterday was the 4th of July and my roommate and I had decided, along with the rest of the city, to go ride bikes at the beach. I do have a bike, but the tires were low and I did not have a proper pump with me, so I took to calling bike places to see if I couldn't swing by and fill my tires, but none of those jackasses were answering their phones. I guess I could out said jackasses here, but it was a holiday and I'm feeling charitable. I finally called Cynergy and they said that they were closing in ten minutes, but would wait. Roommate and I leapt into the car and hauled ass, and made it just in time. Dear Will at Cynergy: You are sweet young man, an exemplary employee, and stereotypical of the chill bike dude, the one that is covered in scabs and tattoos. Please know that I had a happy day/evening dodging drunk beached-out pedestrians on tires as firm as all of the fake boobs I saw parading themselves about (gulp), and shame on your friends for shaving "SKID ROW" into the sides of your mohawk while you were sleeping. I was stranded with a flat tire during the BLM protests and arrived at Cynergy as they were reckoning with a break in from looting. There was literally shattered glass and the police had yet to arrive. I could not believe it when they took my bike in, fixed it in 10 minutes and then refused to accept payment. Talk about great people! As I was waiting at least 3 groups of cyclists came by and everyone was so friendly and it was clear - these guys are beloved by the community and provide great service. Moving forward I support them and these kinds of businesses! read more

This is practically my second home now because of all the friendly employees! Case in point, this past Sunday, I went in to get my bike fit adjusted and Steve was able to work his magic and make my ride a lot more comfortable. (It's amazing how much a professional bike fit can improve your ride.) Not only did he take the time to fit me into his busy schedule but he was also provided me with a lot of awesome fitness tips that were pretty specific to my needs. There are now intermediate rides on Sunday that the Cynergy guys lead/help out with. Steve leads the intermediate ride around the Westside that are pretty challenging and fun despite all the climbs I oh, so dread. Randall also joins in on the rides, whether it be beginner or intermediate and is just as entertaining and educational. I can't say enough good things about Cynergy and their employees. My girlfriend and I walked into this place on a weekday afternoon looking to buy 2 new bikes; the place was almost empty, so we figured we'd get good service. A couple of sales people asked us if we needed any help, and we told them we'd like to look around a bit first. 20 minutes later, we'd found several bikes that we were interested in, and so we made eye contact with several different sales people. Nobody came to help us. After another 10 minutes, one guy came out from the back (he was obviously doing bike maintenance and not a sales person) and asked us if we were being helped, because even he noticed that we were there for quite a while. Then we watched him talk to a salesperson, point to us, and he went back to his work. The sales people were just standing around talking to each other, with us waiting right next to them. Finally after a total of 40 minutes, still no help, we decided to leave. On our way out to the car, one of the sales people realized he had neglected us and came outside, but we were already in the car, so I slammed my door and drove around the corner to Helen's Cycles where we bought two bikes on the spot. The guy who helped us at Helen's wasn't too knowledgeable, but at least we got prompt and friendly service. Parking is good, but Cynergy needs to do a better job of helping its customers. Also, the place looks upscale and fancy, and rent at that location isn't cheap for a building like that, so they probably pass the cost onto the customers because the bikes looked expensive. I don't think I'll go back again. read more

Update: I just read all the follow up ratings made after mine. Most give the store 4 or 5 stars. People, the only way this place deserves 5 stars is if they paid to get them. Wanted a new bike. A nice one. Big bucks. Waited over three weeks for everything to arrive and be assembled. Delays. Then they told me they couldn't get the right frame. No "let us make it up to you". Just sorry. They knew they just lost several thousand in sales with that answer. They didn't care. Now, despite the fact I live in Santa Monica I'm not a picky nutjob, but when I pay that for a product it will be what I paid for and it *will* be done right. I liked the store. I liked the guys. I liked the bikes. I did not like how the place is run. If you demand top service for your $$ go elsewhere. Hidden within the myriad of cycling shops of west la is the awesome Cynergy bikes. Very nice place, like the mercedez benz of bike shops. One morning on my way out on a ride my brake cable snapped. I rode in unannounced to be welcomed with open arms. The bike tech serviced me immediately, had me out within minutes free of charge! As both an athlete and professional triathlon coach with a successful business and triathlon team in Los Angeles, I've been a devout customer to the neighboring Helen's for more than 12 years. But bike shopping with a client led me to shop around and visit Cynergy Cycles. Wasn't my first time through their doors, but this time I was blown away with how helpful and friendly everyone was. Few months later, I got a deal on a TRI bike package from another "chain" shop, I couldn't pass up. But when the bike arrived, the chain store's build needed help. I happened to be at Cynergy again with my client (who bought her bike from Cynergy). They offered to take a look at my bike and quickly repaired what the chain store left unfinished. Hands down, I'm a convert. 6months later, everyone is still friendly when you walk through the door, the service dept is helpful (as if they know there's competion for business and they want to earn your loyalty). Service is efficient, knowledgeable techs and turnaround is always fair. Local shops (especially their neighbor around the corner) should watch closely. Just because you've been the top-dog in town for a decade, doesn't mean you can keep that position without treating your customers well...or at the very least, as if you care! Good job, Cynergy. Should have wrote this review last year, but better late than never. I was torn between an Orbea, Trek, or a custom order Specialized Roubaix and visited every shop in the area, quite a few times. The Trek dealer was no better than shopping in Toys'R'Us for a bike, and the Orbea, although it looked nice, was not as good of a ride as the Roubaix. Plus, the Orbea shop was (as in past tense because I think they either closed down or switched ownership or change names, whatever) wasn't really that customer service oriented unless you were a triathlon athlete. I was in here at least a dozen times before spending a cent and test rode everything from cheap cruisers all the way up to the top of the line Tarmac. After looking at the 2011 models online, I really liked the color scheme of the blue Roubaix. The store did not have a demo available to test out, but was willing to put one together. 2 days later I received a call that the demo was ready for a test run. I rushed to the store from my office, gave it a spin, and finally made my decision. Had the bike custom ordered the way I wanted it and real happy with my purchase. Kudos to Eric who helped me numerous times and the rest of the staff who was patient and polite enough to deal with me over 12 times before I spent any money in their store. Needless to say, this is my LBS and I'll make most of my accessory purchases here, even if the cost is slightly higher than ordering elsewhere online. read more

I went in just needing a bike to tool around Santa Monica and the beaches. I don't know anything about bikes, so the salesman (Willie) had me try out a few that he thought might fit me and my needs. He also very patiently educated me about what I should look out for in a bike. I didn't buy right away, but shopped around and tried out bikes at a few stores. I came back and bought a simple comfort bike and had them install a rack in the back. Also, the owner (Eric), is a super nice guy that was hanging around the store and totally hooked me up and spent time helping me out. I got all of the extras like my lock, helmet, etc here too. I think the level of service was top notch and the guys working there, especially Willie and Eric were super cool. I'm not qualified to say if this is a place for hardcore bikers (because I'm certainly not one), but I can definitely recommend that you check out this store if you're a novice and just want a good bike from a cool locally owned store. read more

I have several good bike shops around the corner from me and I still usually end up at Cynergy. For service, tune-ups, and repairs, Cynergy is great. They are the fastest shop in the SaMo area. Their rates are higher than Helen's, but you won't wait as long at Cynergy. That said, if you have complicated or serious repair or service needs, talk to the service department first. Cynergy is a Specialized shop and they cannot take care of every problem for every bike. Still, they will certainly help you if they can. Also, I've never been taken for granted. True story: months after they replaced a broken spoke on the rear wheel of my road bike, I noticed some other spokes had come loose. I brought it to Cynergy and they fixed it at no cost because they had worked on it before. Not many shops will do that. For clothing, accessories, and technical gear, this place is definitely expensive. They do carry stuff you cannot get elsewhere, but the mark-up is too high. Do yourself a favor and go to Performance Bikes for the basic commodity stuff. If you need/want legit high-end, high-performing gear and are willing to spend the money - you'll be in good hands. Bikes are a little spendy here, too. Specialized is not an inexpensive brand, however, and a quality bike is always going to be expensive. All around, this is a good bike shop. I trust them with my bikes. I've been riding for many years and am all too familiar with the holier-than-thou shop. Cynergy isn't that kind of place. Go in, talk to the folks there, and be yourself. Don't pretend to know something you don't (cause you might miss important info) and you'll be in good hands. read more

Made it clear I was calling specifically to book a test drive, and was told that was great. stop in any time. Said I'd be in shortly, and when I got there, there was not only nothing assembled in the price range I'd specified, the only bike I was shown, at twice the money, also wasn't set up to ride. Cynergy RULES. Hands down. Roger spent a lot of time with me trying to find a road shoe for my obnoxiously wide feet and was willing to special order me a pair of shoes. That's not a big deal, but what was, was the fact that once they came in and didn't fit me as well as I had hoped, he was happy to let me return them. That is f'ing cool. On top of that, I came in a few days ago because my friend hit my rear derailleur at low speed and they took a look at it and made some adjustments at no cost. Furthermore (as if you need any more evidence to go here), they do NOT work on commission which is a BLESSING. When you walk in, they are eager to help you, but don't swarm around you like vultures fighting to get your sale. They don't resort to high pressure tacticts to get you to blow your life savings on a million dollar bike (++cough++HELENS++cough++). They genuinely want you to be satisfied. read more

Return policy is ridiculous and unacceptable. Bought one of their cycling shorts (Knicks), which showed signs of wear/tear after only one day of use. Took them back and was told that the I had to wait for the representative to come and investigate the situation. Then they would decide what to do, refund/credit, etc. I don't know about you, but my time is valuable. I don't have time to wait for a representative to call me back (which i still haven't heard back). You sell this product; you should be able to back up the quality of the product you sell! I bought a middle of the line Specialized bike pump from these guys a year ago and have been using it flawlessly to inflate the tires on my road bike. I also have a Beach Cruiser that's been collecting dust in my garage though, and I realized that I needed to pump up the tires a month ago so I could take it for a spin. After spending about 15 minutes trying to figure out how to use my Specialized bike pump, I just could not get it to work on my Beach Cruiser nozzles. I tried unscrewing things, flipping different parts around... and I just could not figure it out. But I knew I never would have paid $40 for a bike pump that didn't work with different types of tire nozzles. Finally, at the risk of sounding like a complete airhead (no pun intended), I called Cynergy and walked the guy through my problem. He easily explained what needed to be done and didn't even laugh at my lack of coordination. With his help I was finally able to inflate the tires on my Beach Cruiser. Crisis averted. Monkeys can put square blocks into the correct holes and even fly spaceships; but the sad reality is that not all homo sapiens can figure out a simple bike pump.
