We saw their ad in a flyer delivered to our house. The friendly owner stopped by to review the work to be done and provided an estimate. Scope of work: large ficus, eucalyptus, 2 older queen palms. Amount estimated: around $600 Bottom line: they showed up on time, work was completed as explained (but I was surprised that they didn't include skinning of the palm trees), everything was hauled away. Did I go with them again? No, because they charge too much. I found another local company (licensed/insured) who was happy to do the same work for 1/3 the cost who completed the work with equal or better quality. read more

Excellent work trimming our Sweet Gum/Liquid Amber tree, even asked if I was satisfied and cut a couple more branches I suggested. Corrective pruning of 12 46 year old Twisted Junipers was done very well. Clean up and protection of existing plants, lawn and our garden raised planters was perfect. We had Specialized Tree Works come out to trim the 5 Oak Trees we have as well as do some fire clearance behind our house. The owner came out and gave us a free estimate and explained what should be done and why and made it easy to understand the process. He was really knowledgeable about everything I asked him. 2 of our Oaks are very large Live Oaks, and 3 are medium sized Scrub Oaks. They hadn't been trimmed in quite a while. What a difference it made! The crew showed up on time. They lifted the canopies of the trees. They look so much better and let it a lot more light while still looking natural. We have an old olive tree. It has had some sub par prunings over the years. Specialized trimmers know what they are doing. They are not cheap but if you care for your tree and don't want it topped and hacked like we see in HB so much, hire them. You can't fix a tree that has been badly pruned. Specialized Tree works is GREAT!! Steve gave us a written estimate and it is very reasonable! When an Arborist trims the trees they know the right time of year for the trimming/ shaping that way the trees will be healthy. Of course the Specialist / Arborist charges more but the results are worth it! The trees can be damaged if trimmed badly... That is why Tree works is Fantastic, an arborist is an expert on trees the growth as well as what trees are best for specific areas of a yard. I used Specialized Tree Works and Landscape to landscape my front and back yard in February of 2019. The work in the front yard consisted of completely removing all of the old plants, recommending new plants and trees and reworking the design of the planting areas and completely replacing the sprinklers and landscape lighting. The work in the back yard consisted of removing several trees and replacing them with different, cleaner trees and provide some more privacy from the neighbors. Steve the owner came out right away to review my requirements and then had Andrew the landscape designer contact me. Both Steve and Andrew were great to work with. Andrew had my wife and me pick out types of plants we like on a Pinterest board. From that he chose plants with textures and colors we liked and presented them to us. He was great to work with as we changed plants several times. Andrew was alway pleasant, had a great attitude to work with and kept giving us additional examples of plants and trees until we were happy with the design. Once the design was agreed on with Andrew the crew started work. They always let me know when they would be coming and worked almost every day until the job was completed. Had a few delays due to rain but it was an unusually wet winter and had to perform landscaping activities in the mud. My wife and I are very pleased with the outcome of the project, the time it took, and the final product. Both the front and the back yard look excellent and we have received many compliments on how great the landscaping looks. I used Specialized to replace my front yard including 800' of grass replaced with artificial turf), removal of overgrown plants and replaced with succulents and medium size Mexican rock. I worked with Andrew, the project manager. He was easy to work with and had good advice. They were flexible when changes were made and the end product is what I was wanting. The onsite lead was wonderful but I forget his name. They were very accommodating and while not cheap, they did quality work. My job was about $15K but they spent 7 days with a crew of 2-3 each day so it was fair. read more

I have used Specialized tree works for many years. I have mature olive, melaleuca, tristania, camphor, and Silver Sheen; some of which are quite large. I am very particular and I trust them to maintain my trees every year. I have shopped around to compare price and going with someone else would result in minimal savings. I was tempted and several years ago I went with another firm. It was not a pleasant experience. The cuts were not clean. It was more of a hack job than the artful trimming to which I had become accustomed. Steve, the owner, gave me an excellent price, half the price of the next competitor I was considering, minus a small tree that Steve recommended I let grow back from the damage my previous (nonprofessional) tree company had done to it. I was impressed that he recommended that I leave it alone, rather than make a few extra bucks for on an unnecessary trim his competitor had added to their bid. Steve's men were out today, on time, and I'm VERY happy with the work they did!! We planted 2 ficus years ago to block the view of the home behind us looking into our master bedroom and bath. To all "Property Owners" and "Contractors": It should be known that Steve Peterson, Owner of Specialized Tree Works, is licensed by the State of California for "Tree Pruning" only and is not a CSLB Licensed Contractor for any "Construction, Landscape Installations, Hardscape, Irrigation, Drainage, or Grading". Despite Specialized Tree Works advertising they are not licensed nor qualified to do the work of C-27 Landscape Contractor. He uses unlicensed sub contractors to perform what they cannot. They pride themselves on their tree pruning but don't count on actually meeting Steve personally as he truly dislikes coming in direct contact with his clients! After completion of their jobs...no one inspects nor is their a desire to follow up with their clients. If you so desire to hire them for a complete "Landscape Makeover"...ask about their licensing, bonding, current workers comp, and a detailed legal contract with the State of California legal requirements. I contacted them to provide an estimate to refresh my front and back yard. Darren came out and seemed very knowledgeable. He told me a lot about all the different types of plants in my yard and how they should be watered. My house is tropical and I wanted to continue the theme. Darren told me he would get back to me with a quote in 1 1/2 weeks. Two weeks later I called to see where the quote was. Two weeks later I called back to inquire about the quote. When the quote finally arrived it was just a single sheet with line items with quantity of plants (no drawing or what was staying and/or being replaced or where anything was going). I had to search the web to find out what types of plants were quoted. Not one of them was tropical, they were all desert type. I called back to tell them I was disappointed that my wish of a refreshed tropical garden was not presented.
