While the doctor is great at explaining things to patients and the front staff are generally nice, please be prepared to wait at least two hours to see the doctor. The appointments are booked through a Call Center and they are ALWAYS overbooking the appointments. My mom had an appointment to see the Ophthalmologist at 10:45am, but we didn't see her until 1pm. There was only one doctor there with so many patients waiting to be seen. It definitely feels like a broken system for both the healthcare provider and the patients. So if you have to come here, just make sure you clear your schedule and bring something to entertain yourself... and just be mentally prepared to wait. read more

Called: Sherman Oaks Office For: Surgical consult Ms. Kimberly Lopez at extension 105, if she is to be believed, was the worst representative of this company and she and Specialty Eye are should be embarrassed and ashamed by the treatment of their patients. I called to make my initial appointment to meet with an eye surgeon for a proceedure that I require. I was genial and gracious as I usually am on the phone, particularly when dealing with medical office personnel as my father is a surgeon (retired) and I worked in his offices when younger. Say anything you want about the medical profession ultimately it is a service business and the care and service delivered by this young woman was shameful. She showed herself to be glib, unhelpful, rude and, frankly, inept at doing her job. If she represents the quality of care that this company delivers, I would not dare to have one of their physicians examine my eyes, let alone perform the surgery for which my GP (at Lakeside Medical) referred me. ... ... Anyway, we both were getting frustrated and increasingly tense, however, I am a PATIENT trying to make an APPOINTMENT, to bring my business to them... ... ... I just wanted to make an appointment. When, I asked to speak to some other representative that might help me, Ms Lopez was the only one there. When I then asked to speak to her supervisor, she was not in the office. when I then asked for the office manager, She had gone home for the day and when I said that I wanted the office managers name she put me on hold for over a minute, perhaps hoping that I would go away. Sha came back and said Diane or some such. So I asked for a last name, and she said she wasn't allowed to give me that information. Really? Did she somehow get the feeling that if I wanted the name I wouldn't be able to get it somehow... Anyway, I asked for the office manager's voicemail or her direct supervisors voicemail to which Ms Lopez told me that there was NO VOICEMAIL. I am very comfortable saying that I believe this to be an utter LIE by Ms. Lopez. She went on to suggest that I could call back on Monday. By this time I was livid and I informed her that I was going to contact my doctor and tell him exactly how I had been treated by the company to which I had been referred by him and that he would likely be contacting the doctors at Specialty Eye are and might stop referring patients to them, she seemed as though she was used to making people angry and upsetting clients and potential clients all the time. IS THIS HOW SPECIALTY EYECARE DOES BUSINESS? Does this company care so little for their clients, so little for their business? I cannot believe that the supervisors of the office staff or of the scheduling staff are not aware of this type of behavior by their staff. I don't believe for a moment that I am the exception. And if the office management is so lax about the behavior of their staff, they do not deserve their position anymore than Ms. Lopez. She should be dismissed immediately. Her replacement should be trained and at the very least know the locations of the offices (not just the street addresses, but what area they are in relative to one another and the city(s)) They should understand the importance of the idea that they represent the company and the individual doctors therein. The staff at the front desk and on the phones are the ambassadors for the business and the Dr's. They are as important to the business as are the med techs, Pas, NPs and even the Dr's. In this event this ambassador was a dismal failure, an embarrassment and a detriment to the company. Why would I give my business to a company that can't keep its house in order? This woman should be fired and her supervisor, at the very least, reprimanded and restrained. This was not the way to treat and speak to a patient, a senior citizen or any person. read more

The prescription was so bad I have to go to another eye doctor to have it corrected. The prescription was so bad I couldn't see wearing those glasses with that prescription. Took my elderly Mother here, took 2 hours start to finish. Dirty, out of date equipment, sketchy vibe from staff. Now here's why I'm giving this place 1 star - They told my Mom to come back in one month (soonest they could schedule her)... I take her back and they give her same tests. Doctor comes in after staff tested my Mom (plus dilating her eyes) and is confused as to why she is even here. He says there was no point in her coming back for same tests. My mom even asked the assistant how these tests would differ and why she was having them done and the nurse/assistant uncaringly replied "Ask the doctor, I don't know." My Mom enquires "Shouldn't you know what tests you are giving me"? and the assistant repeats the same exact thing "Ask the doctor, I don't know." So now the Doctor walks us back to the office and the office manager hands us some papers and tells us we need to get them filled out. I ask "Why didn't you give these to us a month ago when we were here and why did you schedule us for the same exact tests ?!" He doesn't bother to answer just starts repeating that we need to have these forms filled out by her doctor. I told him we already did that otherwise we couldn't have gotten an appointment here. Decided to return another day and got an appointment. The nurses are very impatient and treated me with sass and attitude and the doctor took forever to show up. This facility should be shut down. When I entered at 11am I was startled to see a room full of people. I counted 10. I asked the receptionist how many doctors were in today. She said one. The receptionist had her mask on below her nose. As I signed in I told her she needed to cover her nose. She pulled her mask up over her nose. I noticed about 10 minutes later her mask was below her nose again. I sat and waited for 1 hour. After an hour the woman next to me asked the receptionist when she would be going in to see the dr. Her appointment was at 11am. I was shocked. The dr. had double-booked. At that point, another woman became irate. She was there with her older mother and was complaining about the situation. She also had been double booked and was waiting an hour. I couldn't believe this was happening and should have left...but it had taken me 3 weeks to see this 'Cornea specialist'. I was put into a back room after a little over an hour where I saw 2 other rooms with patients sitting. I asked the receptionist how long it would be before I would be seen. She said about 30 minutes. Living in covid times I felt extremely uncomfortable. The dr. wasn't taking any precautions that other doctors were taking and at this point I asked for my $ back. I'm now seeing eye doctors out of my Healthnet coverage. I have seen many unprofessional behaviors at other Specialty eye centers but this was the worst. Also there was a patient sitting in the waiting room with no mask. On the door it says, No mask, no service. That wasn't enforced. I normally don't bother writing reviews but i really feel like I need to. I will start off by saying this is by far the dirtiest eye doctors office I've ever stepped foot in. I'm embarrassed for them. They didn't even have the air conditioner on, it was very hot and stuffy. The receptionist were rude, unfriendly and slow. They worked at a sloth's pace and gossiped with each other like high school girls while having everyone in the waiting room . I'm sure this company could hire a high schooler and they could do a much better job. I was finally seen by Dr. Birow who was just as unfriendly, unkept and tired looking as the office it self. I was seen for a stye in my eye lid that I've had for over a month he "examined" my eyelid by looking at it (without using gloves. Gross!) and he then tells me to continue applying heat. He didn't give the stye an injection like I was told he would. I walked out with zero treatment. This was a complete waste of time and such a terrible experience i actually took the time to write a review. If i could give zero stars i would. Was told by Dr. to come back in one week for a follow up and was then told by the front desk that I could not get in for over a month and a half!! Explained that the Dr. requested me to go back and the response was "are you losing vision?" - "um, no." "Well, then we can try and get you in next month". Not going back. I brought my grandpa here to get his eyes measured. Our visit there was very straightforward. The receptionist took my grandpa's information and found all the necessary documents on their system previously provided by their Glendale office. They were quick and lovely to work with. We only waited 15 mins. The interior decor and waiting area was very outdated. Also the equipment they were using (although fully functional) also seemed outdated as well. I like the drs here if you can see one in a timely manner!! I wait forever whether it's here or Glendale. I feel rushed when I do see one in particular and her accent is hard to follow. My poor ride waited in car for two hours and twenty minutes! Couldn't come in due to Covid and it was a consult so I figured half hour? They are usually rude in here and no social distancing or anything! Masks below noses and waiting room full. All my other drs space appts far apart so only 2-3 people at most are waiting. Not here! I can't be around a lot of people and there was no regard for that. Sadly this is the only place my insurance allows. Came to an appt for my mom today and it looks like they double book appts as the waiting room was packed like sardines. The Spanish speaking receptionist was very attentive and polite. However, the other Lady "Angela" by the eyewear was more the opposite. We let her know that the restroom had no paper towels or toilet covers and she literally turned her head. However, when I proceeded to give my mom a napkin she turned and said make sure not to flush that. Super rude and inconsiderate. This kind of staff behavior should be addressed. The girls behind the counter are unfriendly, i think they think they are being professional but truth be told they ignore you and make you feel very unwelcome. This place is the worst I've seen in medical service, my doctor sent me for a routine exam, since I arrived I realized that people are treated depending on what insurance you have, and from there I had to wait, then they sent me to the back room, a girl placed a few drops in each of my eyes, after a few second I mentioned that my eyes was itching, she told me it was norma, because that was to dilate the pupils, two minutes later they sent me to another room, my eyes still itching and I star seeing blurring, a lady in white coat enter to the room she said good afternoon I will be performing you test. she probably took 3 minutes or less to do the test, I explain to her about what I was feeling in my eyes, and she told me that is because the drops they put in my eyes, but everything was fine, that my eyes was fine, that I only need glasses to drive and to read, that was no cover by the insurance but they have good prices, to go at from they will help me, she took a piece of paper and put 75 driving 225 reading, no prescription paper nothing yes a simple piece of paper. they tried to sell me the glasses, and ask for a deposit, I give them $20.00 I was no feeling to good, I went in to the car and stay for over and hour, before I can drive. but the iching continuo, I put some eyes drops, and help a little be, but I still having problems since that day. I spoke to the insurance company, they send someone at home to do another test, he ask me if I have problem with my eyes after he took the laser pictures and I explain to him what happen, he replay it, that he was concern because the exam show some black spot in both of my eyes. since that day I have encounter a lot of problems with my eyes, and now I have pain around my eyes and also in the bones closed to the eyes, especial my right eyes. This place is unethical. Run, don't walk. Their business appears deceptive. I had pain in one of my eyes. So I went there on March 20, 2018. They checked my insurance and said I was covered by them for services. Then they said I would have to pay $250.00 to be seen by a doctor. They said I would get the $250.00 deposit back when the insurance paid the claim. I said it seemed too high because I pay 20% of the charges and that means they would be charging $1250.00 for a routine eye exam. I was in pain so I ignored my nagging feeling that I was getting taken advantage of. They had called my insurance and had been told that I had met my deductible for 2018 so there was no reason to demand that I pay such a large sum for something simple. Today I called them because I found out that they have not submitted anything to my insurance so reimbursement will not be coming. The insurance company says they need to hear from them to process the claim. I think they took advantage of me and the pain I was in and that I am an older person. I will be filing a formal complaint with my insurance company and a complaint about unfair business practices with the Attorney General of California Senior Abuse section. People like this don't care. They use their business for a front to collect money from people. My advice is to stay away from this business. read more

Absolutely the worst medical office I have ever had to deal with. Rude and disrespectful front desk staff. My child saw Dr.Sarkisyan on 5/28/13 that day she prescribed vision therapy. It's now September and we are still waiting for the doctor to send exam notes and the prescription before vision therapy can start. I have made several calls and left several messages with specialty eye care center but still we have not received the help that we need. We are now going to have to start the whole process over with a different doctor. One more thing, Dr.Sara Nabhan never even requested my child's medical records from his previous optometrist even after I gave her all the contact information. The only reason we came to this eyecare center is because we were referred by my child's doctor that had just retired. When we got to the office, the front desk lady told my husband he was wrong, then that no one would have said that, then that he misunderstood. She condescendingly explained what a copay was.
