The BS lie they told the insurance company.
    Leah N.

Unprofessional. Uncaring. Liars. I filed a grievance with my insurance company against them. They cancelled my first appointment, then made me wait a month for a second appointment. I arrived and was told there was no optometrist to see me. Hello?? I asked for the manager. They wouldn't come out to talk to me. So I waited 2 months and not even an apology. They lied to my insurance company and said the physician had an emergency and "clinic was cancelled for the day" huh? Flat out lie. An optometry emergency?? They didn't cancel my appointment. If they tried they would've told me. I guess the emergency occurred 3 minutes before I arrived. They did not care.

Mask worn below receptionists nose after I told her to cover her nose.

They overbook like 15 people for the same time and the wait is a minimum of 45 mins if you are lucky.

Avoid this place if you can and go elsewhere. This is not your friendly neighorhood optometrist…read more I decided to give this place a second chance due to all of the 5 star reviews but I'm disappointed once again. My experience was similar as last time. They are not transparent with the fees they charge you until after you swipe your credit card. I booked an appointment over the phone and was told that my eye exam is $30 along with a $75 contacts fitting fee. My insurance covers my eye exam, so I should only be charged $75. This additional retinal exam was not clarified over the phone. If this were to be clear, then I would have opted out because I have no need for this. I was overcharged. I called AND texted to make things right and they come up with excuses that I signed a form that I never did sign and that they did call me. Transparency is this office's biggest weakness. As a patient here, you're simply a paying customer who's only valued for your business versus your overall wellbeing.

It started off a little meh for me as there is only street parking and as I am disabled, the walk was a little hard for me. BUT the service totally made the walk worthwhile. I did pay extra for the eye X-ray thingie but that was so much better than getting my eyes dilated. I'm diabetic as well and I have to get my eyes checked yearly to ensure that my eyes are ok. This was a much easier exam than getting the dilation. Much easier and much safer for me. Then I got taken to the back and the optometrist was great as well. She recommended some things and talked with me about some other issues as well. She also told me that the pores on my eye lids were getting gunky and to start doing warm eye compresses at night and it has been helping. Then the nicest very helpful lady... I wished I had gotten her name... Helped me to find new glasses. She was so helpful in bringing glasses to me and looking up colors for me and just being overall extremely helpful. Normally I'm used to being told, go and look and see what glasses you like... Instead here, she assisted me with everything which was very much appreciated. Overall, the parking sucked but I guess that's LA.... Lol BUT the service was amazing and I think I might've finally found my permanent optometrist!!

I've always had good insurance and have made the most of it, but I find myself without insurance for the first time in ages, and let me tell you -- the main front office lady turned a warm conversation into a cold, belittling, and smug interaction so quickly that I am taking my cash business elsewhere and will refrain from recommending them, as I have for years to my extensive network. This is not a knock on the quality of Dr. Sloan's care but a critique of his front office. Here's the play-by-play: I called to inquire about an appointment for myself. I needed to see if they accepted Medi-Cal and, if not, how much the cash price would be. I am prioritizing continuation of care, as I have suffered from retinal detachments in the past and my eyes require added expertise. At first, I was speaking with someone who was very kind and understanding. She quoted a cash price in the ballpark of $125. That was doable for me, so I proceeded to schedule an appointment. Then she ran my Medi-Cal number to see if there were any benefits, because I cannot afford new frames and wanted to replace the lenses in my existing frames. Fine. All of a sudden, the call dropped. So I called back, and the lead front desk woman answered the phone. I asked to be reconnected with her colleague who was helping me, but she said they were all with other customers. I explained that I was the one one of them was on the line with, and she asked what it was regarding. I let her know that they were running my Medi-Cal number. She asked about different Medi-Cal plans, and I let her know that I am on straight Medi-Cal, to which she promptly and snidely replied, "We don't accept straight Medi-Cal." So I said that's fine, I can pay cash. Then she raised the price to $175, and added that it would be another $39 if I add retinal scans, and if I want contact lenses, that's another charge and another appointment all together. I hadn't even asked about contacts. . . Now, I can't prove that she hung her colleague's phone up on me while we were talking, but now I start to suspect it. Look - I expected to pay cash. What immediately turned me off was not even the convenient cash price increase -- it was her attitude: haughty, condescending, brusque, and entitled. (She is also usually very pushy about selling new frames. Not anything I was originally annoyed by, but something my husband hates about going there.) On top of treating me as an unwanted and unwelcome patient, she belittled her colleague as "new" and said that's why I was given incorrect information. Absolutely no decorum or emotional intelligence. She just threw the woman under the bus. The correct move would have been to say that there was a new price sheet, or something to that effect -- NOT to undermine her colleague. I know that we've ALL experienced front desks with subpar customer service, but her immediate dismissiveness toward a good-paying patient who has brought an entire family and other good clients to their practice is beyond the pale. For the record, I have Medi-Cal because I am recovering from cancer. I didn't mention that on the phone, because no citizen owes anyone an explanation for their coverage -- we all pay into Medi-Cal. There are widespread layoffs occurring throughout Los Angeles. They ARE going to experience an increase in cash customers. I will not be made to feel less-than for not having insurance in this moment, and I don't want anyone in need of good care to be treated with such prejudice. I think retraining is needed -- learning to have respect not only for her colleagues but for her fellow citizens. Not to mention compassion. Compassion in healthcare seems appropriate. We will be taking our business and recommendations elsewhere.
