Great find! My dining companion & I loved Specialty Bar & Grill. We were drawn to it on the way back to RI from an event by the bright red umbrellas on their outdoor patio. Since it was a beautiful day we decided it would be perfect... and hopefully the food would be, too. We were not disappointed. My companion ordered the lamb gyro ($12.99) with a Sangria ($10). I ordered a pork souvlaki ($12.99) with a Pilsner draught ($9). Both sandwiches came with a small bag of Lay's potato chips & a pickle spear. Everything was delicious, and their Tzatziki sauce was the best I've ever had. Service was fast and friendly. Even after we had finished our meal & drinks we were invited to stay as long as we wanted to enjoy the steel drum entertainment. We will definitely return when we're in the area. read more

Terrible for the price. I went with my girlfriend for dinner. I got a burger, she got a cold cut sandwich, and we got a baked mac and cheese to share. The whole meal was $55. I asked for my burger rare, and it was medium at best. The lettuce was just chopped pieces of salad lettuce thrown on there. The fries were cold and stale. Her sandwich was decent, albeit dry. The worst part was the Mac and cheese. It was so sickeningly greasy that I couldn't eat it. We had to dump most of the grease out because it was in a literal bath. Very disappointing. read more

We really enjoyed our visit. The staff was friendly. We arrived at the beginning of the evening rush - about 6 tables were seated immediately after us, so I feel like the waitstaff got a little confused about who to serve first, etc... because we waited 10 minutes after getting our drinks to order appetizers & dinner. No biggie. The food looked & tasted delicious! I had the gyro. I'm a little bit of a gyro snob - not in a bad way, I just like it when places like this show they care about flavor & quality & not just throwing something together. We were looking for a outdoor dining spot and came across this little gem. When I say little, I meant, but don't let the size fool you. Located in a small plaza, next to hits own deli/sandwich shop. We were greeted and seated right away. Waitress was attentive and friendly. We started with the lobster Rangoon. I felt they were a little overcooked and one especially was overcooked. Wife went with the Nashville Hot Chicken. Two big pieces of breast meat with obvious homemade French fries. At first she felt it was not that hot but then the heat kicked in. Fries were curled fries that you could tell were made on site. I went with the Chicken Bacon pizza. A good size pizza with plenty of chicken and a decent amount of bacon with a ranch drizzle that was really good. Menu was huge and the specials plenty. They also had quite the draft list. Used to serve quality food. Ordered lg pastrami sandwich on onion roll with tomato romano cheese and onion the pastrami was shredded very tin and served cold the onions were the thinnest and smallest I've ever seen the roll was dry and cold not worth the money .the only diner was me but the bar was crowded. read more

Nothing special about it and poor ingredients, after we got the order we put cheeses on them, our own mayo and toasted it in our airfryer (the soggy fries too) so we basically cooked our order after brought home. Admittedly, I have not Yelped much this year because of Covid. I have visited a few restaurants during the year and have them on my "to review" list, but the experience I had at Specialty Sandwich over the weekend was enough to break my semi-hiatus! My family reserved outdoor seating for my mother's birthday, as we wanted to take advantage of the rare 70 degree November day. We were seated promptly at a table on the deck. Unfortunately, that was the high point of the day. The first thing that struck all of us was the lack of umbrellas on the tables. People were absolutely baking in the hot sun, and it's very strange that no umbrellas were present. I've honestly never seen that before! Secondly, the menus were understandably available via QR code only, which would have been fine IF the QR code actually brought you to their menu! It did not. It brought you to their website, which somehow does not have the menu. Clicking "menu" brings you to Beyond Table, which also did not have the menu. Finally after scrolling far down there, a terrible text based, disorganized menu appeared. At this point I was still optimistic and looking forward to having one of the 20 craft beers on tap that their website boasts. However, no craft beer menu existed! I saw a few tables around us get beer...in bottles, and Budweiser at that! Calling Budweiser a craft beer is like calling Kraft Singles "artisan cheese". After a 15 minute wait, our server finally took our drink orders. 10 mins after that, drinks arrived and we ordered. We started with the hummus plate which took about 15 mins and caused even my mother to burst out laughing by how TINY it was. I think there were 6 small triangles of pita, and maybe 8 pieces combined of carrot, celery and cucumber. I didn't have any as to leave more for others. My meal was an absolute joke. I ordered the "Greek Bifteki" and it was equally pathetic in size for the price. 3 tiny smushed BLAND meatballs with a scoop of ice cold rice pilaf. Other diners in my group opted for sandwiches, many of which had soggy bread. My meal also came out AT LEAST 10 minutes before everyone else's. We were not checked on during this time. Between the bland food, poor outside seating, bad menu link and ABYSMAL service, I can't recommend enough avoiding this place at all costs. I will never ever return! read more

I think I'm too old for this place! On a recent Saturday night, actually two Saturday nights in a row, I stopped in for my usual sandwich, steak and cheese. It's the middle of winter and they have music coming from the loudspeakers in the outdoor eating area. It's always nice, soft classic stuff which is pretty welcoming. That all changes when you walk in. I'm talking about the sandwich side, as there's a "pub" that's part of the operation. There was very loud music coming from the pub, especially when the door to it is open, which is all the time. To make things confusing, there's competing loud music playing in the sandwich side of the place. I love music, especially good music, but I don't like really loud music unless I'm at a concert. I always order my "usual", steak and cheese. In the past they have always been delicious, lots of steak, no gristle, the right amount of cheese, on a fresh grinder roll. The one I had last night was saturated with some kind of orange, strange tasting grease. I could only eat half of it. All sandwiches come with chips. The bags of chips are puny "trial" sized, containing about for or five small potato chips. I'm starting to understand why I was the only person eating there the past two Saturday nights, which is usually a busy night for most places. And what I really find unusual is that were at least five or six teenagers that didn't seem to have a job. In most fast food restaurants there are people running around taking care of business. Here they were standing around, talking or looking at their cellphones. I couldn't tell who the manager was. Maybe it's just me, but this place has changed. A wish sandwich ! Two pieces of bread and you wish you had some meat ! . Large Italian would blow away in a lite wind . Bologna and salami no ham ? This is an in town favorite for our family. I love supporting local, family run restaurants like this. We stopped by last week to see the new renovation / addition. Basically, attached to the "old" sandwich shop is a fancier bar & grille, with bar tables, big screen TVs & a pizza oven. Since we were looking for something quick, we opted for the traditional order-at-the counter side. The food is pretty good, I got a burger & fries. They put mayo on it by accident, but all is forgiven & they kindly gave me a new bun. The staff working here is always super friendly, and even gave my child a homemade cookie on the way out for no apparent reason. For eating in or taking out, the Specialty Sandwich Shop will continue to be a quick go-to for our family. read more

I recently moved to Holden and couldn't wait to try this place. My wife ordered a haddock roll and I had a steak tip sub. The haddock roll was good but we asked for tarter sauce when we ordered and didn't get any. According to my wife, the haddock was good. This sandwich came on a bulky and was a little over $10. The steak tip sub was boring, basically meat, cheese on a sub roll. No marinade or spices on the meet. This sandwich was $15 and some change. I really wanted to like this place but there are other places near by with better subs and cost less. Maybe I'll try this place again and get a different sub. Hopefully it will taste better that the one I got today. read more

I just had a luncheon for 60 people, catered by Specialty Sandwich. Everything was delicious. All of the sandwiches were made with fresh ingredients and the salads (one regular and one Greek) were exceptional. The thing that went the fastest was the desserts - their homemade brownies, chocolate chip cookies and baklava (absolutely scrumptious). I had an exceptionally good burger here. It was ENORMOUS. It was some kind of of BBQ burger that had onion rings on it. I can't recall what it was called. It was probably in my top ten of best burgers I've ever had. The French fries were really good too, they were kind of spiral cut. I've never seen this shape anywhere else. Cute pub! Called in an order of 2 fish and scallop dinner plates. Lady said it came with fries and onion rings. As I was paying I was told it's just fish and chips because they don't have any scallops. That was disappointing but figured just roll with it. Got home and found that there wasn't any onion ring either......even though I asked specifically for them. Been going there for years but the last few times we have noticed that things have changed and are not as good! The fish and chips were good, cooked perfectly but was definitely missing something..... especially where I was mentally expecting scallops as part of it. Ok, I NEVER enjoy leaving a negative review of anything where people are involved! However my family (4 of us) went to the Specialty Bar and Grill for lunch after church today. When we entered the hostess just looked at us and said "You can sit anywhere". Our waitress, Lisa came over and took our order. Our son was at a different table with his girlfriend. She went to their table and did the same. At this point in time the place was pretty empty. Our food came out in maybe 10 - 15 minutes. Personally $17 for a cheeseburger is insane and a large cheese pizza was also $17. The food was decent however we had to get up and ask someone for napkins, silverware, etc. Halfway through eating my burger I had noticed my son and his girlfriend hadn't gotten their pizza yet. At this point we were going on about 30 minutes from when we put our order in. I asked how their cheese pizza was coming along and the person I asked said it had just gone in the oven. I had noticed that a party that came in after us had received their pizza already so I was confused by this. At no point during our meal did our waitress or anyone ever come over and ask how our food was or whether we wanted any drink refills, etc. When we were finished we had to get up and go ask our waitress for a to go container and our check. So basically other than taking our order, we received no table service whatsoever. I noticed our waitress going to other tables periodically. read more

My friend and I were trying to find a new spot to grab dinner and some drinks and we came across this spot. The food was pretty good (we got the chicken Cesar salad pizza and beer battered curly fries) but Let me tell you it was one of the worst experiences I've had. As soon as we walked in the vibes were awful, we felt so uncomfortable. A couple of the waitresses looked miserable and were just so rude. We get to our table and ordered drinks. Are waitress arielle was not attentive and made us seem like we were a bother every time we asked for something. My friend didn't like her drink so she kindly told the waitress. She seemed upset but took the drink back. We then get the bill and she charged her for a drink that she had one little sip of. When we addressed that it was still on the bill the girl came back with the worst attitude and said "I WAS TOLD NOT TO TAKE THIS OFF BUT HERE YOU GOOOO" and threw the check on the table and proceeded to talk about us to the other waitresses will we were sitting closely enough to hear what she was saying. I've never felt so uncomfortable at a restaurant before. I've Been a waitress myself for many years and I would never act like that towards a table. Very disappointed. read more

I really want to like this place. There's not too many options available in the area, and I'd like to imagine that you can't go wrong with a sandwich. This place really struggles with special requests. The past three times I've eaten here, my order has never been correct. I think a lot of the problem comes from asking for things like no tomatoes. I don't always have that issue if I don't change the menu item specifics. Honestly though, nothing changes the fact that nothing here is very good. The sandwiches are mediocre, the salads are nothing to write home about, and the side is a tiny bag of boring chips. The only decent thing in the whole place is the Italian dressing. Maybe I'm bitter about the times I've asked for that dressing and didn't get it. Maybe I should check my stuff before walking out of the building. But what I'm probably going to do is avoid eating at Specialty Sandwich. read more

Great friendly service. I observed the guy at the register shaking hands and remembering orders from various customers. He made a point to try and get to know us even though we weren't locals (but visit the area every year). BD loves their gyros. He adds feta cheese and gets tahini instead of tzaziki sauce. I had the Italian (bologna and two kinds of salami). It's everything a hoagie should be though I would have loved red onions and maybe some banana peppers. But it was filling and very tasty. The GPa loves his roast beef sandwich and has ordered soup from there too. With chips and an apple, a small soup and three sandwiches I think the bill came to be around $50. The wait wasn't too long and the cashier guy gave us a complimentary cookie and brownie for my two year old. It was such a generous gesture. We'll be back next year! read more

We sat at the bar and got greeted and menus placed right away. Then the bartender walked away and texted on his phone for s good 5 minutes. The two wait staff were also hanging around him facing the register with no apparent urgency to serve the few customers they had. We left. Went down the street and they were packed! I was in town for 2 weeks and this became a common lunch stop. First off, the menu for such a small shop is mind blowing. Literally hundreds of sandwich options and everything from pizza to burgers to salads to gyros and Po -boys. They also have lots of different sandwiches such as a Rueben, club, etc. You can eat on either the small cafe side or if you want to sit and be waited on, walk next door to the bar area where they have plenty of tables and TVs. The food was really good and everything came in good portions. The servers are friendly and your food will arrive quickly such that if you only have 25 minutes for lunch you can get your lunch, eat it and be gone quickly. If your looking for a nice sandwich shop, look no further. The bar area would be perfect for grabbing a beer and something for dinner or watching a game too. Enjoy! read more
