I have been a part of the Cedars Sinai Medical Group for almost 50 years. Recently I noticed that my medical group is now called Cedars Sinai Health Associates. The Medical Group is still there but Health Associates was established to handle HMO, Medicare and Medical patients. I no longer have access to doctors that I have been going to for years. Also the superior medical devices are not available to Health Network patients. To be clear, the level of care and access is reduced if you are a Health Network patient. I have also noticed a mass exodus of really good doctors. Of course their staff will not give good reason, just that they are no longer there. My guess is burn out and churn out. It take months to see a specialist. I had an easier time when I was with Lakeside and they are the worst medical group in LA history. Cedars is now run like a super medical machine, not a care center. You check in by kiosk, even though there are humans right in front of you. The staff is still wonderful but I can see that they too are frustrated at the changes. To be clear, if my life were in danger the one and only place I would want to be taken is to Cedars. But as for my wellness health Cedars no longer hits the mark.

This was, in fact, my second visit to Cedars Sinai ER in a matter of nine days, but my two experiences there could not have been more different. My first visit, I had bumped heads (literally) with my 5 year old grandson & mine swelled up immediately. A few days later I had a black eye and went in to have it checked. I left Cedars Sinai raving about how well I was treated. Not only was everyone so caring and friendly, but I was very pleased to see that the staff was also very diverse. The attending physician, Gregory Hallert MD, was exceptional. He knew right off the bat that a black eye was customary with a head injury but gave me a CT Scan anyway "just to keep the family happy." I was so impressed with Dr Hallert that I immediately inquired if he was taking on new patients. Unfortunately, he does not have a private practice. Although I was disappointed, this made him even more admirable in my eyes. My second visit to Cedars Sinai however, could not have been more different. Both the attending doctor, Brian Keith Jeffords MD and the physician's assistant Tina Lilavaline PA-C, were visibly stumped upon learning that I had no other symptom of an allergic reaction, such as a swollen tongue; so they would not be able to diagnose on auto-pilot an allergic reaction and send me on my way. I relayed that I had suffered from eye infections periodically since my teens and my skin condition since 2015. I told both Dr Jeffords and his assistant that I had never been to a doctor during a flare-up, and had never been tested systemically for what might possibly be wrong with me. I also told them that I basically had no primary doctor to speak of because my usual facility ChapCare in Pasadena had recently been bought up by the most horrible health plan imaginable & that it was virtually impossible to get any real help. I even suggested that perhaps it may be Lupus - but the physician's assistant immediately dismissed it because the pattern of my rash was not in a butterfly shape. Dr Jeffords told me to wait awhile while he did some "peripheral brain" research, telling me he assumed it to be a strep infection; and moved on to converse with the next patient. A few minutes later the physician's assistant came in and told me I was released, that they had called in an order for antibiotics to my pharmacy. I reiterated that I had no real doctor to speak of and would appreciate them doing some blood work because I was currently in the middle of a flare-up. I also told her that I needed something for my eyes. I've usually received Neomycin along with antibiotics. I literally begged her and told her I was not leaving until I got a blood test. She made a face but agreed to it - at least to my face. A few minutes later the arrogant Dr Jeffords, in his ill-fitting lab coat who'd felt the need to tell me he didn't make much money, appeared and told me that he was not going to do any blood work. He refused to give me a prescription for my eyes. He blatantly told me that he was not going to do anything more for me. He told me that if I needed anything more to "go to the Saban Clinic," and had me escorted out by security. I wrote a letter directly to Cedars Sinai & got the usual patronizing response but I can assure you they did absolutely nothing. I've been told since, by people who work there, that mine is not the business that they are after - they want rich patients!

My review is specifically for the ER department…read more I truly try to be understanding because I know hospitals are understaffed, overwhelmed, and the staff deals with difficult situations every day. I've always remained polite and patient during my visits. But after multiple experiences here, I honestly feel like something needs to be said. Every single time I've come to this ER, the wait has been excessive -- usually 7+ hours just to be seen or placed in a room, followed by several more hours waiting for updates or care once inside. I understand emergencies happen and patients are prioritized by severity, but the overall experience feels extremely disorganized and lacking compassion. The waiting room is consistently dirty and overcrowded, with visibly sick people sitting for hours without updates. What bothered me most, though, was the attitude from some of the staff at the front desk. Patients and family members asking simple questions are often spoken to like they're inconveniencing the staff just for needing help or clarification. During my most recent visit, I spent nearly 10 hours there before eventually deciding to decline admission and go home. I was placed in a room without a pillow or blanket and asked three separate times for a blanket, but was ignored each time. No one expects perfection, especially in a busy ER. But basic compassion, communication, and respect should still exist. People come to the emergency room scared, sick, in pain, and vulnerable. The way patients are treated matters just as much as the medical care itself. I genuinely hope this department improves, because no patient should leave feeling dismissed, ignored, or like they were a burden for simply needing medical help.

I was pressured to approve multiple diagnostics before even speaking with a physician, then waited nearly an hour in a freezing exam room despite having an appointment and only a few patients present. When the doctor finally came in, I was seen briefly and reprimanded for declining the very tests staff had been pushing from the start, which the doctor agreed would not have been necessary. The doctor refused to look at anything I asked her to and walked out. The clinic itself was dirty, dark, poorly maintained, and the attempted blood draw by an inexperienced technician left me genuinely feeling unsafe. I was also blatantly lied to by the doctor about lab turnaround times once I consented to proper testing. Overall, this experience felt transactional rather than medical. I would strongly recommend seeking care elsewhere. Go literally anywhere else.
