It is perplexing to read some of the 1-star reviews, and am glad /grateful that my experiences have not been anywhere close to this. I have been getting periodic epidural injections for my chronic back pain I think since late 2023 or early 2024. The check-in process has always been smooth, processes efficient, and the care shown by the RN's has been genuine. I've always had the chat with the anesthesiologist prior to the procedure (not general but rather conscious sedation). This center should be training other medical centers on how to be efficient , getting patients prepped fast, in and out in timely manner. On top of that, I've had the added bonus of nurses and other staff with excellent senses of humor. The parking setup is not ideal as they only validate for 30 minutes. I'd give them a 5 star if they picked up their phones when we call; several times my wife has had to call to ensure I'm ready for pickup and no one has picked up. This is very important when we want to pickup someone within the validation period. Having said that, I sure hope that I never have the experience of the 1-star patients, because I've come to expect only 5-star service here! read more

I cannot recommend Specialty Surgical Center of Beverly Hills enough. From the moment I checked in, the process was seamless and professional. The surgery prep team was incredibly attentive, making sure I felt comfortable and informed every step of the way. My surgeon and anesthesiologist were both amazing, providing a level of expertise that gave me total peace of mind. Just had a procedure there and it was easy, comfortable , professional and friendly ! From the start : Brenda was extremely helpful to get us checked in ( my husband had a procedure there too same day and he forgot his id but they had him on file )! So efficient ! Then Our Pre op / Post op nurse Barbara -- a super cool and beautiful nurse interviewed us and put an easy IV to prep me & she also helped my husband too ! Loved the friendliness ! I was introduced to a beautiful anesthesiologist named Danielle ! Amazing , lovely , professional and really took care of both of us do well wanted to just hang there with them all ! The Heleyna the OR nurse was very pleasant snd equally as lovely as all these who we previously met and they helped care for us ! Now Manny I know forever because I go to the procedure center often . He's awesome professional always recognizes me and he's so cool ! Dr Jeffrey Sherman's team there is as brilliant as his front office staff at the towers and of course we all really appreciate and absolutely know Dr Jeffrey Sherman is the best Gastro doctor this side of the Mississippi and even East of the Mississippi !!! Today I had like my Sixth colonoscopy / endoscopy at this location. I can't say enough good things about this place. I don't understand any of the negative reviews. Of Course everyone has different insurance. I don't think you can blame that on the surgery center. Anyway, my Dr. Jeffery Sherman does all his procedures here and he is amazing. Been with him for 25 years. Today the pre op nurse Jenny helped me she was fast and efficient and made me feel comfortable. I had Jah for Anastesia who also made things extremely comfortable and safe and was in the procedure room the entire time. Paul was so sweet the OR Nurse. It was my second time with Manny the OR surgurical tech who made sure I had everything necessary. Talia in Recovery was also so helpful. For 2 procedures it went so quickly. It started at around 11:20 am I was up and out 12:40pm that's after going over results with my dr. Etc. I did have to be there at 10:30 for paperwork and pre op. Anyway it so was not a big deal. I have spent hours in the ER or other offices. This is a day at the beach trust me. They make something that is kind of drag and can kind of make you anxious a lot easier. I'm young and had a colonoscopy done at this clinic with Dr Shamsi and have to say that the procedure went smoothly and was a breeze. I woke up quite fast as if noting happened! I'm thankful to the entire staff (Dr Shamsi, Brenda, Renica, Dr Grimes, Mirena, Alicia and Jenny) for their amazing care and fortunate to have done this procedure as a big polyp was removed from my intestin which was causing bleeding for several months. If not done earlier I may have ended at ER with life threatening complications. Fortunately the biopsy came out negative from being potentially malignant I am ok! For those reading this and wondering if they should do a colonoscopy, the answer is yes especially if you have any bleeding in your stool, don't guess thinking it's just a hemorrhoid and go for a colonoscopy immediately. DO NOT WAIT or you may regret it later and it ain't worth the complications you may end up with. read more

!absolutely never again for any surgery . the staff and treatment just horrible i give them "0" star. i don't recommend this surgical center at all. if your doctor set up a surgery at this place, refuse to have the surgery done at this lousy place!!! i had asked my surgeon who i truly respect and have brotherhood love for to tell the anesthesia doctor not to use gas on me for the procedure, after being there for 4 hours the anesthesia doctor came to my bedside and i asked her not to use gas, she we don't have the equipment to use iv for anesthesia; we only use gas. i was already there for 4 hours and she asked if i still wanaa go through oouy the surgery or not; i told her i have been here hooked up to the machines and iv for salin . using gas for anesthesia is cheap and it damages our brain!!! read more

First time coming here, and I needed an endoscopy urgently. The only reason I give this place even "one" star is because they were the only place available to get me an appointment fast enough. But never again am I going back. The lady at the front desk was VERY rude. When I spoke to her, or when she spoke to "anyone" she never made eye contact while she was speaking giving instructions, she was too busy running around not caring for the patients that came in, giving off the impression as if people are bothing her, she definitely should have not been working front desk. 2ND when my name was called to the back, those ladies was rushing me as if they had fire ants biting them in their pants. They kept saying "This procedure will only take like 10 minutes". I did not want to say how I really felt because I didn't want them to hurt me, but in my head I was saying "I don't care how quick the procedure is, do not rush me!" I didn't have time to think, or ask the proper questions I wanted to ask, even one lady didn't even leave the room while I was putting "back" on my clothes! 3RD the WORSE of all, they were so much in a rush to do the procedure they did not even wait until my "whole" body felt the anesthesia, I could feel the pain, but I couldn't speak because the mouth piece was in my mouth, and my arms and legs was too weak from the anesthesia to even move, but I KNOW they could tell by my face expressions that I felt the pain. I have no idea why I was treated this way, but I will never go back nor recommend this place to anyone. I will be taking legal action because this is truly unacceptable. read more

Treated me with Care wasn't nervous at all was in an out and less than an hour was relieved after the procedure almost like having a massage. Recommend this facility. I had my surgery here yesterday & I was so pleased and shocked with how amazing it is. The staff is so beyond nice and kept checking up on me. My pre op nurse Armine was so nice & I was a bit nervous but her talking to me made me feel at ease. My recovery nurse yemmesrach was so attentive and making sure she kept helping ease my pain. My procedure went fine and my recovery fine, but besides that this place is a nightmare. A month after my procedure I learned about all the out-of-network providers they set me up with besides the doctor that sent me here to perform the procedure. According to CA law, if they want to use out-of-network providers they need to give you more than 24 hours notice along with an estimate of fees for using those providers. They did neither of these things and tried to convince me that I signed papers saying I was fine with everything at check in (obviously not 24 hours in advance) I was provided with Dr. Samuel Seelig as an anesthesiologist. When they gave me a large surprise bill I was able to fight it with my insurance. Once they gave me a reasonable updated bill two months later, I paid it immediately. After paying it I received multiple bills with the original amount and also received collection calls from CMRE because they claimed I didn't pay the large surprise bill. Five months later and I'm still fighting with them to make it right and to call off the debt collectors so they don't ruin my credit. I'm still fearful of the potential surprise bills I'll need to fight from all the different out-of-network labs they decided to use. This place his a scam. read more

Just had mr back pain epidural done today. Brenda in reception was very nice. Hand sanitizer bottles all over the giant waiting room. I waited an hour after doing my paperwork and went in the back at my assigned procedure time. I had Jenny and Samantha helping me with my IV and prep. Both were very kind. I was able to leave my undergarments on which was surprising. Waited another hour for my turn to go into "surgery". Kay wheeled me in and was really friendly. The staff in the OR was a little more on the quiet side and they did they thing. They explained what was going to happen and before I knew it I was back in recovery getting dressed. No grogginess or anything. I was surprised. My ride was contacted and he was already in the lot waiting. They validate for 2 hrs. Glad it all went better than the reviews I read. Now I hope the procedure works so I won't be back there for a few years. read more

I recently had surgery at Specialty and found the staff to be kind and compassionate but generally ignorant of COVID safety precautions. There were no air filters, no masks were changed from patient to patient, it was overcrowded and nurses and doctors carried around (germy) cell phones... even in the OR. The nurse who wheeled me down to my car post-surgery took her mask off in the elevator. This is an older center with outdated equipment and I think, irresponsible staff. I won't return here if I need surgery again. read more

I've left no fewer than 6 messsges. All I need is my records. But still no call back. I've reported them to the authorities. From the time I walked into this "Specialty" place to the time I left I thought I was being "Punked". Brenna called me 4 hours before my procedure and asked if I could do them a favor and come in early because they had a cancelation. I didn't realize she had an ulterior motive for this. I walked in and immediately got a bad feeling from Brenna. From the awful greeting, to the rude and dismissive questions, to blaming and shaming me for not having a recent covid test (I am vaccinated and my doctor forgot to mention it) I asked what I could do. I had been fasting for 2 days and taken the day off work. Her response. "We don't do no tests in this building" I left and bought a test and came back. She looked up from her phone. "You got the wrong test, that won't work" then resumed texting. As I was leaving I heard her celebrate with her coworker (don't know the name) on how they didn't have any more appointments now and could leave early. This was all on purpose. This person should not be working with people let alone patients getting a test to see if they have a life threatening disease. read more

I just had a procedure done 9/22/21. Everything was wonderful. The front desk was very professional. The nurses (I interacted with at least five), were exceptional. Everyone was caring and let me know everything that was happening and what they were doing. They were with me before the procedure, during and after. The procedure was successful and I was released to go home. I would certainly use this facility again. I was very pleased with how I was treated. read more

Horrible service... was hesitant to go back because I had gotten a staph infection a while ago. I just recently had an MRI and they left me in the machine for 1 1/2 hours. No one heard my screams. An older person could have had a heart attack and no one would have known. read more

This place is covered in proverbial red tape. It's pretty, but they welcome you by literally collecting your co-pay before they even perform your procedure. Then, if you have a question about anything, "I don't work for the doctor's office". They have an insanely tight COVID protocol that won't accept antigen tests -- only PCR, which takes days. If you aren't aware of this then cancel Christmas. But remember, they take your moolah first. I've had a few surgeries and have never experienced anything like it. So weird. Never made it past a corner chair in the lobby. Wouldn't even let my spouse wait for me and mind you, this is NOT during a COVID Uptick. This is during a downturn. An excellent facility for my mother's epidural and a fitting atmosphere for a superb Dr. Zerovich from Kaiser Permanante. The clerical staff was efficient and courteous. Nurses were very attentive and compassionate. COVID's still raging and precautions had to be taken, but with care for my beloved and ailing 90 yr old mom. So neat, so impeccably clean and such a loving atmosphere. Thank you so much Specialty Surgical Center for the loving care you gave to my mom. Most people I've as even complaining are those who have insurance concerns. I understand that - but this is a business and they have policies. Parking is validated for only 2 hours. When I arrived at the specialty surgery center at 5:00am, no one was in the lobby. Patients had to figure out to go into the garage on a wet cold rainy morning, in the dark. Upon checking in, they never received my Covid test results, so my surgery was detained by one hour. They sent the results to my doctors office instead of the surgery center! Big mistake adding to stress pre surgery. At 12 noon I called Dawn the supervisor. She tried to cover up and make excuses for sending the my Covid results to the wrong place. The staff at the center, from front desk to all the nurses and aides, are friendly, welcoming and communicate very well. It's a reassuring environment. This was my seventh visit over 15 years, and this has always been my experience, for which I'm grateful. The two-star reduction results from particular Covid-era issues this past week. Waiting to be called in, there were two very unpleasant aspects, both of which could have been addressed by the desk staff. First, one of the other three patients waiting in the otherwise closed waiting room (so we were all in the same area and had only enough space to be 6' apart) was playing, on his phone's speaker, that was in his front shirt pocket facing out, Rush Limbaugh's morning radio show. It was loud and clear for everyone to hear, but no one on the staff asked him to silence it or use headphones. Perhaps Rush Limbaugh was the reason my first blood pressure reading was so high! Second, a medical equipment salesman arrived, skipped the temperature check in the hallway that the rest of us were required to do, and wore his mask incorrectly (covering only his mouth, not his nose). This is someone who spends his day visiting medical facilities, where most of the patients have health issues. Yet no one on staff asked him to cover his nose. They engaged with him, in conversation, handing him a business card, and never once thought to protect all the rest of us from his ignorance. I know that these are challenging times, and no one wants to add confrontation to their day, but I would have expected a surgical center to be particularly sensitive to both the peace and safety of their clients. read more

Last week, I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy done here with Dr. Shamsi. I was worried about the procedure (since I had never had a colonoscopy done before). I will say, the staff here (with the exception of the front desk people), really helped to put me at ease. Pre-op, the nurses were friendly, efficiently, and knowledgeable. I was really nervous about the whole situation, but their friendly demeanor calmed me down. The anesthesiologist was very through in explaining to me what would happen (in regards to sedating me). I have a phobia of anesthesia because I have had issues in the past with being put under anesthetic. He assuaged my fears. The procedures went quickly and I didn't feel much. I spent some time in recovery and was released relatively quickly. The minus 1 star was for the front desk personnel. They were not very friendly. read more

Overall my experience with the surgical center was great. The staff was supportive and kind, the facility was clean. My issue is that I received a form from the surgical center stating that they had verified my insurance coverage with my provider. This made me confident that there wouldn't be any insurance issues. I also apparently also signed a form stating that I would accept $250 responsibility for anything Anthem didn't cover. I wasn't given a copy of this form on the day of the procedure, so it wasn't in my records (a photocopy was later sent to me by the anesthesiologist's office). Months after the procedure, I received a bill from the Anesthesiologist's office for $250. Apparently the anesthesia wasn't verified with my insurance provider prior to the procedure. They have requested information from the anesthesiologist which his office has declined to send. Now I'm stuck paying $250 because the Anesthesiologist's office won't answer the phone when my insurance company calls and they've hung up on me twice when I've called to try to get them to submit the info the insurance company wants. Advice: Confirm with your insurance company that everything for your procedure has REALLY been authorized. If they confirm that it has, don't sign anything that says you'll accept extra financial responsibility. read more

I was sent to this facility for an epidural. I have Kaiser and for some reason Kaiser stopped doing their procedures at their facility. I will never go to this place again for anything. Thank God I had my regular doctor from Kaiser. I am a 71 year old woman and he has been doing my epidurals for over ten years and i have never had such a horrible experience as i did at this place. The only decent person was the nurse that prepped me before going into the surgery room. Two females came to wheel me into surgery and one asked me what drugs I was on. They then proceeded to talk about how she really didn't want to come to work and the other one said I would have come and brought you to work. The one that asked the drug question was buying a house and they talked about that. Upon arriving to the surgery room more discussion went on with ones in the surgery room about the house. A man with a Filipino accent asked if I had had this procedure before and I replied that I had. At that point he told me you know what to do then. When I transferred over to the operating room bed nobody bothered to cover my backside. He proceeded to prep the area on my back leaving me uncovered with a room full of people and played on my back liked he was painting on a canvas to music and did something else in my buttocks area that I assume he thought was funny. I was taken back to recovery and in a very short time my daughter was there. I will never go back to this place for anything. Hopefully Kaiser will stop using them for the sake of of their reputation. read more

My experience is like many others here. I arrived at the surgical center after having confirmed multiple times that my procedure was 100% covered by insurance. They told me that it was not covered and if I did not pay them $467 immediately they would not perform the procedure. So I paid. Insurance did cover the procedure 100%. Specialty Surgical Center said they hadn't received any money until I read to them the check numbers that Blue Shield had provided me with. Then they "suddenly" realized they had received them. I have now called them every day for a month and have a thorough call log in case I need to take them to court. They've told me for weeks now that the check is "in the mail" or "going in the mail tomorrow" but I have yet to see my $467. BEWARE. read more

My two experiences at Specialty Surgical were both very smooth. They also took my in-network insurance no problem. The nurses that prepped me for the surgery were friendly yet professional, and seemed very skillful. The same anesthesiologist dealt with me both times, and he remembered me from the prior visit (6 weeks earlier) and asked if everything went ok. They let my wife sit next to my bed while I was being prepped and waiting for the operation. I'm glad my eye surgeon uses Specialty Surgical Center. read more

My son had a scheduled surgery here. First and formost, I would like to say that the surgical staff is incredible! They are caring, compassionate and very patient oriented. They get a 5 star review in my book! But now to the center itself. First they needed a certain piece of equipment to perform this surgery, which has been scheduled a month in advance. Four days before the surgery they called to say they had to postpone surgery because this piece of equipment had not arrived. this was not an option as scheduled needed to be changed and preparations set for the time frame. This surgery was a cancer related surgery, stressful in itself without complications. We spoke to the Dr that was performing the surgery and she found this unacceptable. The equipment was ordered and guaranteed delivered on time. which it was. Next issue, got a call on Friday afternoon that anesthesia had been denied for said surgery, which was scheduled for 7 a.m. on Monday!! So here go with scrambling again to no avail, because everything was closed. Arrived Monday morning and nothing had been taken care of in regards to the anesthesia. They would NOT bill. They would NOT allow payments. They WOULD allow an full out of pocket payment before surgery could be performed. I also want to say that we were the first in at least four other patients that had to figure how,to pay out of pocket for their procedures. The whole experience was very stressful and upsetting. The office staff was rude, impersonal and seemed to have placed themselves in a very e high pedestal. And we're not in the least bit concerned or even friendly with anyone they interacted with, other than themselves. The receptionist actually closed a door in my face as I was being led to prepare for this surgery AFTER managing to pull together the money for said anesthesia. My recommendation to any reader, is if your Dr scheduled a surgery here. Refuse!! Go to a hospital instead! read more

The place is clean. Long long long wait. We arrived 30 minutes early, waited a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes before being taken to pre-op. The nurses were very busy and preoccupied with staying afloat, rather then providing top patient care. If possible, I would look to have an outpatient procedure in a different place. read more

So the place is clean. The front desk is the most unhelpful group I've ever met. Plus like others have said, you need to pay before they will even allow for the procedure. My pre-op nurse Vita was nice and helpful. The nurse giving me my IV was SCARY. I was a paramedic and I am capable of giving myself an IV. I kept telling HIM to remove my tourniquet until he is ready to insert the needle. (THE NURSE GIVING ME THE IV DID NOT EVEN WEAR GLOVES.) He did not listen and I told him my vein will disapear and potentially collapse my vein. 5 minutes later he was ready. He couldn't find my vein in my purple arm. I had to remove the tourniquet myself, located my vein, and stick myself, got the flash and told him to just insert the IV. He pulled and lost my vein and ended up digging for it again. After that fiasco, he taped the IV line up like a cast. Seriously, now the removal of the IV catheter will rip....and it did. Never again. If I have to come to this center, I'll cancel my procedure and go elsewhere. My surgeon was awesome. The center was horrible. Making an already anxiety filled medical procedure worse. Fortunately I refused sedation for my colonoscopy and was awake and aware through the entire procedure. The recovery room felt like being in a hospital in rural China (literally since I've been) and I could have just walked right out and no one would know. They've even mentioned patients leaving without letting them know. All in all not a good place to have medical procedures done. read more
