Food was good and they have a good wine list; however, I could not score them high. When we first arrived we sat at the bar, which was not very busy, for 10 minutes with neither of the bartenders acknowledging us. We finally got up and sat at a table. Pablo arrived soon after with two glasses of water, menus, and a big welcome. Thanks Pablo!! So, being a Gastro pub I expected them to not be out of brisket and ribs. We ended up getting 2 salads - mine with pulled pork (which was cold) and one with salmon (which was not very fresh) which both took forever to arrive. Majorly overpriced with not so good service. We had a party of 8 and had to sit at two different tables because there simply isn't a table big enough for a party of 8. We then had 2 different servers and half of our party didn't get their order taken until the other half already had their food. Speaking of the food...I ordered the whole wedge salad and received what amounted to literally six bites of salad with a small piece of bacon, a tiny sliver of hard boiled egg and a squirt of blue cheese dressing. This all came to over $13. I can't imagine how small the half wedge salad could have been! Needless to say, I was hunger about 30 minutes later. One of the rare times I actually order dessert and it was totally not worth it. Got the Dutch apple pie, which was more like a store bought crumble tart that came out cold. We were late coming into the Sheraton hotel that night and wanted a quick bite without having to go to far. In general I don't expect much from hotel restaurants such that I'm not disappointed afterwards. However this case I'd have to say they set a new standard for poor food and service. I'd say on the food side, With the limited menu its a stretch to call it a Gastro Pub. I ordered the burger medium and got medium rare lots of pink. The burger itself was fine taste wise, the coleslaw on the other hand was a surprise. I've never had hot coleslaw before which didn't bother me as much as the huge uncut chunks of raw red onion that seemed to make up the bulk of the coleslaw. On the service side we seated ourselves as the sign directed and waited....and waited. There were only about 10 people in the restaurant at the time so pretty empty. I watched the servers walk around like a bunch of zombies, shuffling out to the floor to deal with one table at a time before shuffling to the back room to disappear for the next 5 minutes. After about 8 minutes I got up to get a menu from the bar when finally a server walked up to the table to drop off some trail mix and two waters, So I walked back to find out that they didn't leave a menu. Another 5 minutes went by we got menus. Another 5 minutes the server came by for drink orders, my wife and I made sure to put in our food orders before the guy walked of...and yes he actually tried to get away without taking the food orders. The signs on the elevators and through Sheraton indicate this place as a great barbecue place. With the exception of the pulled pork there was not much other barbecue. I try to leave good reviews but this was not worth it. I read reviews first but decided to give them a shot. I seated myself and akwardly waited...and waited. A young female was sweeping the floor next to me. I was the 4th table in the room. After 5 minutes I asked for a menu. That lady set her stuff down and brought out a water and menu. I knew what I wanted and asked to order. She went back to cleaning. 2-3 minutes later she went to the back of the room, out of site. Shortly she reappeared with a gentleman in a hotel suit coat. They were clearly talking about me and then disappeared. Too akward for me and 9min in with a glass of water I decided to leave. I was caught at the door by a new waitress and she convinced me to stay. I ordered a burger and salad. The "medium" burger came out dry and crisp. The bill came to my table before asking "how is everything?" My 2 star is generous based on service and food. If it wasn't for our caring, compassionate server, I would have given this place zero stars. My friend and I had the brisket, which we were really looking forward to. After one bite, it was determined that the meat was either rancid, or had been sitting in the freezer for the past year. Also, there was more fat than meat. The side dishes were just okay. We sent our meal back and we were offered another meal, but my friend and I both had upset stomachs and didn't want to eat anything else. Also, this meat was so bad, that just the other day I ate at Q39 and I was literally afraid to order the brisket sandwich even though it was a completely different restaurant because the memory was still so fresh in my mind. Overall, a mediocre "brass n fern" hotel bar/restaurant minus the brass n ferns. "Gastro Pub" is an overly generous and disingenuous title. However, they have a decent selection of craft beer. The food is sufficiently prepared and served. Our server was a little snotty but competent. The space is over lit creating a cafeteria-like, mingle-killing atmosphere. There are more interesting choices outside the hotel but it will do. read more

I have had the good fortune to spend a good bit of time in KC and always manage to stay at Crown Center. I will say Spectators if far beyond a hotel bar, top notch service while still making you feel right at home. Russell always remembers what we drink and makes me and my wife feel like we were just there yesterday even after being gone for long periods of time. We always make it a point to go to our favorite laid back bar when we were in town. Can't wait for the next trip! read more

This is a nice bar located in the Hyatt Regency. I liked that it was on my route from the conference facilities to my room. Very convenient.

Usually, any restaurant other than a high end fine dining restaurant in a hotel is an afterthought with mediocre food and high prices. Surprisingly, the food and service at Spectators was very good and reasonable priced. I came in for a late dinner (still on California time) and ordered the BBQ chicken with sweet potato fries. This came out in good time. The chicken was moist and tender - not a given even in dedicated BBQ restaurants. The fries were very good. I went back later for breakfast and enjoyed that as well. This restaurant may have been the best thing about my stay at the Sheraton. read more

This place was one big disappointment. Came in here for a romantic dinner, but it turned out to be a very casual bar experience that was overpriced. When I tried calling them for a reservation, no one answered. There was no host at the door either. Instead of a promised "eclectic menu", we got a truncated bar menu with options being sandwiches, burgers and salads. The waiter was awkward and inexperienced. As he was talking to us, another waiter came up to our table, shoved a plate into our server's hand and said "it's yours"- our waiter was confused and embarrassed and didn't know what to do, so he left our table to figure things out. It was a long wait for the food that turned out to be mediocre (not bad though). Their silverware and glassware are not polished so everything looked stained. Not great. Sunday lunch we were one of 3 tables. No one to great us at the hostess stand so we came in and someone at the bar yelled for us to sit wherever. After that service was ok but for a Boulevard inspired restaurant, 4 of their Boulevard taps were out including pale ale and their specialty/seasonal beers. We had the pretzel bites with fondue sauce to start. Very good. Then a cheeseburger requested medium, it came well done. Friend had the flatbread. It was terrible. Limp and over sauced. Asked for mustard and they brought me a handful of to go mustard packets. Not cool! Who wants to open a bunch of these up in a restaurant. This place in upstairs in the Sheraton hotel. Ate here last night, it's the restaurant in the Sheraton. Ordered the short rib entree and a side goat cheese salad. Goat cheese salad was ok. The goat cheese was a deep fried medallion. Kinda wish it was just crumbled. Short rib plate was decent. Not very big portion of meat but was tasty. Mashed potatoes were pretty good. Veggies were ok too. read more

This restaurant is located in the Sheraton Crown Center. The food at the location is average, nothing I had was anything that would be considered great, but I didn't have anything that was bad either. Two things that make made it two stars for me was the level of service and the acoustics. Service at the restaurant was well below expectations. They seemed to be very unprepared and understaffed - making it very slow... While eating getting ready to order breakfast we were advised by our waitress to expect any meals coming from the kitchen to be at least 35-40 mins - for breakfast, this isn't acceptable. The reason even less so...they had one cook on duty for the menu, in a 40 story hotel that was fully booked the night before. Further, she recommended the buffet to avoid delays, likewise they had a single cook watching over the buffet...again for a full hotel. It should be noted that the waitress did her job well, and this review is not meant to reflect her efforts. Had a similar experience for lunch, they seemed to be understaffed and it took a while to be waited on and have my check processed. As for the acoustics, the ceiling is very low, and even a small crowd made for a very loud experience. It was difficult to hear the person standing next to you. read more

Very disappointed. We waited for an hour and a half after we ordered before we were served our meal. The place was empty once we even received our food. Even a poor establishment should be able to serve the food within an hour. When ordering, they were out of two basic menu items, so I had to resort to a third choice. Had breakfast here on a Thursday morning. I was the only diner in the restaurant when I sat down to eat at around 11am. Food was fine and the service was good until the waitress began hovering around my table asking me how I was doing or if I was done literally every 5 minutes. Seemed as though they were in a huge rush to get me out of the dining room for some reason. By the time I got down to the bottom of my cup of coffee, it had a horrendous amount of coffee grounds in it. How hard is it to brew coffee? Prices were a little high, ended up at 25$ after the tip for a single Belgian waffle and a side order of sausage links. May try dinner there in the future, but wouldn't go for breakfast again as they didn't have many options to begin with. read more

Great BBQ!! While there are more famous BBQ places here in KC, they smoke their own meats on premises. I had the 2 meat platter with brisket and pulled pork with the chipotle bbq sauce, chipotle baked beans and sweet potato fries. The brisket was OUTSTANDING!! Tender with a good amount of fat on it, which is how I prefer it. The pork was a little dry, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. The baked beans were outstanding as well. Nice smoky, spicy flavor. I highly recommend giving this place a try, even though it's in the Sheraton. You won't be disappointed. read more

Their management failed in epic proportions during our stay. During a conference, we took classes at the hotel and frequented the restaurant for lunch and drinks. The food was fine and wait staff worked very hard to accommodate the large amount of customers. However, one customer had a profusely bleeding leg and bled several large pools of blood on the floor. I understand that accidents happen, and this was of no fault or cause of the restaurant or hotel, but after it happened, and after the staff and bartenders were notified, No employee did anything to clean, protect other patrons from the mess, or address the bloody napkins which were used to soak up some of the blood and thrown on the bar, nor call for help for the lady bleeding. One patron cleaned up some of the blood with napkins and no gloves and threw them on the bar near my drinks and they lay there for several minutes while we were seated drinking. Disgusting, unsafe, and incredible lack of proper training and management for what could have been a simple thing to correct. Get some OSHA training and protocols in place for your staff and customers. Our entire group left the establishment early and won't be back. This was the worst experience at a bar/restaurant that I've ever had. read more
