That's where the pros end though. The front desk people are all miserable all the time, both at the OT & speech buildings. My son's speech therapist is always irritated with him and needs to retire, I will be changing speech therapists soon. I've been told other speech therapists there are amazing though. So all in all this location is hit or miss and if it weren't for the great OT's, I would find another place altogether.

My final visit for physical therapy here was on March 6, 2025. There are two parts to this business, as there is another business in between them. The other part is at 2041 Fisher Arch, but they are all the same group. In all my visits here, I didn't have any issues with parking. The outside of the buildings are easily seen from the road. I first went into the main building, but was directed to the other one on that first visit on January 27, 2025. This location is pretty close to me, so it worked out well for location too. A few months prior, my left shoulder had been bothering me, and I had a hard time moving it in certain ways. At first, I thought it was just a pulled muscle or something, but it didn't get any better, so my PCP referred me here for physical therapy on that shoulder. Since the new year had just begun at that time, I knew I'd have to satisfy the medical plan deductible first. I had planned for this at the end of the year before when setting up my FSA. This place is part of the Sentara Hospital Outpatient location. I did find that the overall cost was similar to other non-hospital physical therapy locations. The first visit was primarily the evaluation visit and to set up a schedule of how often to come in. The visit schedule would be twice a week. My primary therapist was Kayla Waterfield. I also worked with Breanna Taylor in some of the sessions. Talon was the primary therapy assistant that I worked with when it came to the exercises too. Even though the first sessions were the lightest in terms of the exercises for it, I felt it most during that period. Over time, new and more complex exercises would be added to the routine. At least I wasn't shouldering this alone. The last part of the therapy left was trying to get the arm to my back. By the time I was discharged, that had gotten much better as well. Now that it's been a few months since I finished the physical therapy, the shoulder is still doing much better than before. I may move it the wrong way every once in a while, but in the beginning, it didn't matter which way it was moving, so this definitely got me into a much better situation. Overall, I have had excellent experiences here. All of the staff I worked with were very accommodating, knowledgeable, and caring. That makes this place a location I would come back to for my physical therapy needs in the future. I highly recommend them, so if you are looking for a therapist in the area, you should definitely give them a shot.

At our first appointment not only did we have to tell her the equation to use to determine how much milk our baby was getting comparative to her weight gain, we received minimal advice and she simply watched me nurse her. Following that appointment we waited for them to contact us regarding what our insurance would cover as far as appointments and it took over a month for them to reach out to us to schedule. I called three times before getting a call back to get scheduled. After finally getting scheduled, two of the appointments were cancelled on us the day of the appointment (so over two months had gone by since our initial appointment) after all of this, we never got back in and received a $500 bill for our first appointment. it's really outrageous and the "care" you get is in no way worth the amount of money they are charging for a basic initial appointment. i really recommend finding a much better speech pathologist if you're looking.

Helping Hands Therapeutic Services (HHTS) is a locally founded, private pediatric therapy provider…read morethat offers outpatient therapy services for children in Coastal Virginia at their new clinic location in Chesapeake and through contracted, home-based Early Intervention (EI) services in partnership with local cities' Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia programs. (Contracting cities as of July '22 include Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, & Norfolk.) -- Services -- HHTS provides pediatric services to include occupational, speech, and physical therapies, developmental services, vision services, social skill groups, and an open sensory gym (by appointment). HHTS has a team of about 25 therapists who provide clinic-based outpatient and/or home-based Early Intervention (EI) services (specifically for children under 3), which is a parent-coaching model. Examples of the groups include K-Prep Language Building, Middle School Language, Middle School Social Skills Groups, High School Social Skills Groups, Handwriting Groups, and Therapeutic Dance Groups. -- Therapists -- Our experiences have been with the EI providers. They make a point to check-in at each session about how the child has been doing, what's working/not as far as the interventions, and model interventions based on what the family identifies as the main priority (which fits in with the overall service plan made with the family). The therapists also ask about other therapies that the child is receiving and generally try to compliment those. Sessions end with what with the parents would like to work on until the next session. The success of this model is really dependent on the parents carrying it out, but it also can be the most effective when therapies are incorporated throughout the day and week and not just for a session or two per week (like clinic-based appointments). I found their pediatric therapeutic services (OT and developmental) to be excellent and would highly recommend them! Their OT was essential in helping us build joint attention, which is a foundation for learning. We wouldn't have accomplished any of the rest of his goals without her help. -- Insurance Know-How -- The HHTS owner provided us with a free consultation and was extremely well-versed in insurance and what options were available to us. In case it's helpful, if you likewise want to line up clinic and home-based early intervention (EI) services for speech, you either need EI to not bill your insurance or you need to use them as your clinic and EI service provider. Also note that if your child is under 3 and you have Optima, your only choices for clinic-based OT are Sentara or CHKD (not HHTS); however, we were able to use HHTS for EI services. -- Assessments -- Because we are using their EI services, the Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia program for our city arranges assessments and service coordination. If you go to HHTS for clinic-based services, HHTS would do initial assessments and goal setting with you. -- Scheduling -- Since we are using their EI services, we schedule directly with each therapist for the next month's session dates. Therapists have always been prompt and keep their scheduled times. If you go to HHTS for clinic-based services, HHTS admin staff would work with you to schedule appointments. -- Environment -- If you do home-based services, it helps to have a calm, quiet place to give updates, get info about techniques, and get the most out of the therapies. The sensory gym at their clinic opened in spring of '22 and the open gym time is something we'd like to take advantage of in the future. It's by appointment and parental supervision is required. There are a lot of great tools for sensory input and self-regulation: the gym features swings, crash pads, a ball pit, monkey bars, rock climbing, a slide, and a zip line. -- Conclusions -- Ultimately this place was a good fit for us. There are a lot of positives, including the knowledgeable staff and the opportunity to receive coaching. Their social skills and other groups also seem like a great resource.

There weren't a ton of reviews I could find, so we went in a little skeptical. The parking lot is pretty spacious, while the exterior and interior are very clean and well maintained. My kiddo sees Kami, and I really like her. She seems like she actually enjoys her job and she's very patient. My kiddo is kinda apprehensive towards strangers but he warmed up to her well. They give you the option of letting them go back on their own, but you're welcome to go back with them. The helicopter mom in me makes me have to go back, but he doesn't seem distracted at all by my presence, probably because Kami has all the cool toys lol. Not sure what other kids do, but Kami has hands on toys for my son to use while working on words, think puzzles, playdoh, cars and even a Mr.Potato Head. We've been coming here a few months now and I'm happy with the sessions. I feel like he's starting to say more words properly and I'm understanding him a lot easier. Not only me, but extended family members can understand a bit better too. I'd definitely recommend bringing your kiddo here for speech therapy!

I wish I could give more stars!  I absolutely love everyone here.  My son LOVES going to OT with…read moreMs. Megan.  She deserves a medal for her work with kiddos with unique needs!  Her flexibility, creativity and warm disposition make therapy a fun and inviting experience.  She makes it fun and follows the lead of my child which is extremely important to me.  The lovely ladies behind the front desk are so warm and welcoming.  They get to know the kiddos so they are greeted with a smile as they walk in the door.  My son has worked with 4 different OT's, we've had some unfortunate experiences.  I've learned what I like and what I don't like and Ivy rehab is a step above other centers.  I feel seen and heard, my son is also seen and respected.   It means so much to me that no one is trying to "fix" or change him, but instead, they are fostering a trust based, child led approach and building a relationship with him.  I needed someone to understand that many of his behaviors help him to regulate and are not harmful, that's exactly what I got. I know therapy and therapists are not one size fits all, but we are finally at home at Ivy rehab and my son feels loved.
