I have driven by this place for years and never stopped but now it is on my regular beat. I went with a crowd of friends and we all enjoyed the menu. I tried the jambalaya. It was very tasty. Several in my party commented on the enjoyment of being able to order breakfast at lunch. I found the soup of the day tasteless and runny for a cream soup but that is always a gamble. The place is loud and crowded but overall serves great food with the menu being extensive. Definitely a good choice for any time Of the day. read more

So we are back for another visit to Spenard Roadhouse and I have to say not impressed. I ordered the Carnitas tacos (3) and instantly I knew I wouldn't like them when they arrived. The plate was swimming in grease when he placed it in front of me. The tortillas were burnt, the meat over cooked, and like I said, swimming in grease. I had to eat the second and third tacos with a fork because they were falling apart from the grease bath. Come on Spenard, you can do better. Much better! We came back to give it a second try, the first time was very good sans 1 meal. The manager was kind enough to send me a gift card for the price of that meal. This time we tried a couple different pizzas. I had m y mind set on the shrimp and grits again but we saw a pizza go by that looked super good so we changed our minds. We had a roadhouse classic and a prosciutto Fig. I went totally out of my comfort zone on the prosciutto fig and I sure am glad I did. What an awesome pizza! The Roadhouse classic was great as well. WARNING: if you're used to my usual reviews, this one will sound pretty gushy and puffy...but it's all genuine sentiment, I promise. The pandemic has really changed SRH. It went from being a place I really liked but rarely went to (parking, wait times, irresistible-but-expensive cocktails) to my favorite restaurant in Anchorage. I'm 100% serious. The level of value, quality, and service Spenard Roadhouse has brought to bear in these times of phone/online/outdoor/app dining, is unparalleled in Anchorage. To give just one example: their pizzas. They always arrive faster than grubub says and they always arrive piping hot. These pizzas remind me of the beforetime, when I could sit at the bar at Moose's Tooth and see the pizza delivered from the oven to me, in less than a minute....except I'm at my house drinking homebrew. HOW DO THEY DO THIS?! They are SO FAST and the pizza is SO HOT and I am SO IMPRESSED. SRH is now my favorite pizza place in Anchorage, easily. (Moose's Tooth really, really dropped the ball on the piping hot front. Dozens of times I've ordered a pizza, was told it would take X minutes, I arrive 10 minutes early, they call me right on time to pick it up and...it's not as hot in the Moose's Tooth parking lot as SRH pizza is when it's AT MY DOORSTEP! Moose's Tooth should hire SRH to do some consulting. Mmmmmm, pizza consulting!) According to Gruhub, my #1 most-ordered item in all of 2020 is the quinoa salad with chicken. I hear what you are saying in your head as you read this "A chicken salad? Really?! How basic. This dud is supposed to be a Yelper Eliter Duder? What a PHONY!" Hear me out, hater. First, a little about me. I don't think anyone that knows me would call me a "salad guy". I also am your annoying friend that makes fun of quinoa, and will probably drop a dubious fact or two about quinoa farmers in South America. I may even say something crude about what it smells like when you're rinsing it. (I'm not tell, you figure it out...think about it.) Well, this salad is thicc. It's massive. It's fresh. It's the best lettuce in the 49thexpertly mixed with the perfect mix of crunchy, crisp, savory, and zesty ingredients all working in harmony towards something that is 100X more potent than the individual parts. And the chicken? I usually think of white chicken as the most soulness, generic source of protein this side of tofu or egg whites. NOT HERE. I don't know what they are doing with their cooking (sous vide?) and seasoning techniques but...it's the best boneless-skinless-white-chicken-breast I've EVER had. EVER. They should do a virtual cooking class on how to make it. I would pay whatever they ask, and I rarely cook. If you haven't gotten food from them post-pandemic, just do it. Use their website if you can, all the dishes are about $1 cheaper and more money goes to them. I lived in Alaska more than 20 years and have never tried Spenard roadhouse. It was a must try when I was back to visit during Christmas break. I ordered the sausage biscuits and gravy. It was so delicious. The only complaint is I had add salt to add flavor to it. Other than that, I devoured it once I sprinkled it with salt. The pineapple mimosa I had was delicious. I was thrown off by the price in Alaska compared to FL's mimosa price of $7-8. My favorite part of my breakfast was the tater tots. They were so crispy and I loved dipping them in ketchup. The decor made me feel right at home. I'm Glad we arrived a few minutes after they opened because by the time we left, the place was getting busy. read more

We tried the fried Brussels because they said everyone loves them and raves about them. We were a little disappointed because they tasted like straight oil and no flavor. But the rest of our food was great! The breading was a little thick on the fish and chips but was still good. Service was great for them being as busy as they were. Great "home style" breakfast. The service was great and the food was good. I had the Eggs Benny Benson and the porition was huge and oh so freaking yums! My friends had the Smothered Breakast Burrito also very large portions and great. I loved the atmoshere. Another popular restaurant in the greater Anchorage area that was filled to the brim with locals. Their whiskey wall was extremely impressive. Food wise the highlights were the shrimp and grits, the monthly bacon, the turkey Reuben, and the superior highlight is their tator tots. They were cooked and seasoned to perfection. I used to frequent here multiple times a month about 4 years ago and absolutely loved it. Over the past couple month I have been maybe 4 to 5 times and it just isn't what it used to be. The food is lacking substance and the drinks just aren't as good as they used to be. I will say the Espresso Martini was well portrayed. Not bad but definitely not the best. Service this time was good our server was pleasant and helpful especially with our toddler. This is a go to restaurant in Anchorage. I love their monthly specials and brunch! One of my regular orders is the half sandwich combo with avocado melt and salad, add a side of tots with the aioli. Visited Spenard Roadhouse with my husband for brunch this past Sunday. We just moved back to Alaska with our 3 little ones, but had a morning to ourselves as we finished unpacking/moving into our house while they were with a family friend, so we decided to treat ourself to an outing. The veggie Benedict did not disappoint, and the ghost pepper Bloody Mary was probably one of if not THE best I've ever had. I love a nice kick, and that bloody really did it for me. Also, the house pickled green bean garnish was delish!! Hubby got some sort of avocado sandwich that he killed in what seemed like 3 bites! I love going to this spot in summer for breakfast or lunch knowing it's a spot loved by locals and won't typically have the same wait times that you will see at more tourist inundated areas like snow city. The chicken curry is usually my go-to....buuut lately I've had some friends introduce me to these sweet tots (delish), fried crispy Brussels sprouts (which could go two ways..either yum or yuck- but it's tasty), and last but not least..Prosciutto fig pizza ( I'm obsessed now). I know it sounds weird and honestly it is...but I can't stop ordering it every chance I get while I'm in Anchorage. Ordering online is easy and pick up is a breeze. I ordered the mixed salad with maple vinaigrette and the dressing was tasty and the salad was a good portion size. For a meal I ordered the Cajun Jambalaya and it was not spicy at all. In fact there was only a tomato sauce taste to it. I do NOT recommend this dish if you're looking for TRUE jambalaya. The drinks were pretty watered down and the wine is SUPER EXPENSIVE for the pour that you get.
