6 month in advance appointments are made I get a call day of 4 hours prior to my appointment that they're going to be out at lunch at my appointment time and to come in a hour later. Absolutely ridiculous I work I got childcare lined up for my appointment time. The receptionist said I could come in at my appointment time but no one would be here. I asked why the last two days I got text/email reminders for my appointment if they weren't going to uphold it. She said they only started going to lunch 3 months ago at that time. Save yourself some time and disappointment. Both of my sons had appointments for Friday, 2/14/2025 at 11:00 am. I get there at 10:55 sign in and fill out the current patient paperwork and turn it in. At 11:19 the receptionist calls me and my sons up there and says, "I was unable to verify your insurance and its getting to be about that time so we will have to reschedule your appointment." Please note, we are not new patients and our insurance is exactly the same as it was 6 months ago. I understand systems "are different" as the receptionist stated. However, I had received emails, texts, and phone calls to confirm the appointment just for them to cancel the appointments after I had been there for 20 minutes. Run in the other direction. Spencer Dental is formally known as Kool Smiles.. Most. Children don't care for the dentist but they enjoy going to Kool Smiles Dentistry because there is an indoor playground. Playing and socializing with other children as they wait reduces the anticipated fear and or anxiety that they have prior to going into the office and being sat in that big intimidating chair under that big bright light. My son has gone to the location in Janaf Shopping center for over 7 years. Recently we made the attempt to relocate him to a closer practice. The constant automated calls to book an appointment can be a nuisance. Calls are made even when you have an upcoming appointment. You May want to give an alternate number to avoid getting annoyed. For the past 6 months I have had nothing but push back and incomplete and inconsistent performance from the staff in order to correlate with the health insurance to show proof of coverage. When we call the insurance we are advised the member is active The office states other wise. They email a third party to ask for verification and it's apparent the the information is not current. The staff states that they do not talk directly to 3rd party verification team located in Atlanta which leaves a huge gap in communication. Upon making this appointment we were advised that child was active in the system and had no issues to make an appointment and be seen for a check up. Upon arriving to the appointment i am advised that we are still having the insurance issue that I was previously advised by Janaf location staff and current location that there were no issues. There are no answers and no one is taking initiative or ownership to be the liaison for the patient to delegate on the clients behalf. Someone needs to take accountability! I asked to call the 3rd party verification team and was advised they do not take calls. I spoke to both the receptionist that made the appointment and failed to follow thru and cancel appointment upon seeing the error and the manager working today. I got no where... I find this to be very unprofessional and unorganized. It is not ok have people miss time from work to make it to the appointment to then be advised for the 4th time that the child can not be seen. With so many automated calls that they make to remind you to make an appointment. They should also have the curtesy to call the patient and advise that there is a discrepancy so that the appointment is rescheduled over the phone and precious time and gas is not wasted to show up to the appointment in vain. (First time going for an actual appointment) The cons of this location are the fact that they do NOT and i mean do NOT answer the phone. I get and understand not having any appointments at the moment but unless you can mind read, you need to pick the phone up and see what people are calling for. It MIGHT even be an existing patient. I literally had to call and stay on the line until i got the call center and that's is how i got an appointment to be seen for my pain. The call center was only able to do that and explained anything like a cleaning would have to be made in office. IF YOU ARE INQUIRING ABOUT AN APPOINTMENT JUST GO IN OFFICE I received great care as i had to have oral surgery to get my wisdom teeth removed. No problems there. I didn't feel a thing and it was pretty quick. DOWNSIDE: they did not inform me of aftercare, that they had sent me medication to my pharmacy, or anything basically. My kids have been coming here for a few years, this is the second appointment since changing they changed their name to Spencer dental..... and nothing has changed besides the name. Every appointment they are always behind and they put so many people in the big open area in the back where the dental chairs are thats it's always loud and no patient privacy! My kids appointment was supposed to be at 1400, but it is now 1501 and both have finally gotten put in a chair to sit and wait. This is so frustrating because we have been here since 1340! Why does it take 2 hours to be seen by a dentist? This is terrible business management. You shouldn't overbook your get people through just so you make money. First they never answer the phone, then tell you to go to the website and make an appointment. I can't tell you how many times I have done this for my youngest son (this is not counting when my son above the youngest was still using Kool Smiles/Spencer) and then they call and cancel or send a email. This is for the janaf location. It is currently the only one accepting adults w special needs. Took my nonverbal handicapped son in for pain. They took panorama. Dentist came asked questions, looked inside his mouth, tapped on a few teeth. Said gums were inflamed and tops of the teeth showed wear. Asked if we had time to clean his teeth. I said that would be great. That's when things turned around. She left, and when she came back said the hygienist left for the day. And she wanted to refer him to another place. Dr. Ervil has very poor communication and bedside manner for a trained and educated Dr. As his patient, a 6 year old who fasted the 12 hours and an additional 4 while awaiting his services in office only to be dismissed from the office. I mentioned the extensive wait to Dr. Ervil and he followed with " do you want to argue or hear about the procedure". I stated " I'm not arguing" which was not the right response for him because he then excused himself and informed his staff that he would not be performing the procedure on his 6 year old patient that fasted to the point of atrophy because I "was being argumentative". I was so baffled I left questioning what constitutes an argument. I even had to ask the secretary the reason for the dismissal. In any event it's negligent of the doctor because the patient is left to cope with dental pain and discomfort because Dr. Ervil was offended that I mentioned the 4 hour wait. I waited because the patient was my priority. Dr. Ervil chose not to perform the surgery because his emotional and long day was his priority, not his 6 year old patient in dental pain that fasted a total of 16 hours specifically for his services. Never mind the $900 out of pocket fee. He showed no regard for his position and duty as well as his patient. He's a doctor and should hold himself to the standard of prioritizing the need of each and every patient. Caretaker communication and bedside manner is apart of the job description. I wanted to talk to a trained, educated Doctor. Not an undutiful anesthesiologist. I typically avoid people that don't take pride in their work and carry on in spite of the petty challenges which for most careers are those meaningless conversations. Nevertheless it's apart of the job description and a question at the end of the day doesn't entitle your feelings over your patient. I scheduled an appt for my 2 year old for 1pm. I get an email the day before with her name spelled wrong and wrong date of birth causing insurance to be kicked back. This should have been the only red flag I needed. We arrive at 12:45pm and I complete the paperwork. There are 5 other families/patients ahead of us or already waiting in the waiting area and by 1:10 I ask if they know about how much longer the wait would be and tell the receptionist that my daughter's appt was at 1pm. The receptionist was a bit annoyed but explained that everyone was coming back from their lunch break and everyone would be helped soon. I thought it was odd that everyone went on the lunch at the same time but just said ok. We got called back within minutes of me speaking to the receptionist. The dental hygienist did not introduce himself and simply handed me a card telling me when her next appt was. We start to walk back and as soon as my daughter sees the chair she gets excited. She had been watching dentists videos and was very excited to be there. I asked her if she would show the hygienist her teeth and she nodded and smiled really big. I took a pic of her. Meanwhile the hygienist was doing something so we waited. Not long, but during that time I noticed my 2 year old start to concentrate. So I asked if she needed to use the bathroom. She said yes. She can't hold her pee long so I immediately grab her and ask which way the bathroom is. Our hygienist starts stuttering. I repeat myself, asking which way is the bathroom. He's still looking around not really saying anything. There's another worker sitting in the area so I ask her. She also does not have an answer. So I remember there were doors in the waiting area and take my daughter out there. Both doors say "out of order". I ask the front desk "are there any bathrooms for us to use?" Everyone is still just looking around. I am completely shocked. Our hygienist comes out and tells us that we have to go to a nearby business. I don't argue and immediately head to another business because again my 2 year old can only hold her pee for so long. When we get back, maybe 5 minutes later, I take my daughter back to the chair she was seated in before and the hygienist who was helping us is helping another child. I simply ask, "will someone else be helping us?" The hygienist responds with the worst attitude! "Nope, you hoped up so I grabbed a new patient" I reply "you guys have no bathroom for us to use! What do you expect? She's 2?" He immediately starts yelling at me how we can leave or wait our turn. So I start to gather our things. And he says "what do you want me to do?" And I repeat him "what do you want me to do?" Because I would think an establishment that knew its patrons would be inconvenienced by THEIR issue would have a bit more patience when a mother decides to do as she was told and go to another local business to use the bathroom. Never did I think we would lose our appt. As I'm walking out he starts to charge at me and I stop in my tracks and ask "are you about to hit me?" Mind you, there are other workers and patients witnessing this. He says no and proceeds to walk and point to an area of the office that we had not been to. I walk the opposite direction back to the receptionist desk and request to speak with the office manager. The lady that was in the back with us who I had also asked where the bathroom was earlier follows us to the front and is apologizing profusely for his actions. When I did speak with the office manager she also apologized and explained how they had no working bathroom/water due to plumbing issues. It seemed as though her explanation was made in an effort to get ME to be more understanding instead of taking ownership for the extremely unprofessional manner in which her employee behaved. I told her that nothing was communicated but some of her employees had attitudes. They did not explain until asked that everyone was on lunch break at the same time and they did not explain until asked that there was no working restrooms. Even for employees. This was the absolute worst experience I've ever had at an establishment let alone a dental practice. There is no way they have been inspected or are working above board...cleaning teeth without running water?! And it's against OSHA to not have a restroom readily available to your employees. Again...the misspelling of my daughter's 5 letter name should have been the only red flag I needed. I scheduled an appt with Beach Kids Dental which is where we went previously for my daughter's 1st dental checkup. They don't take my insurance but I would rather pay $200+ out of pocket than receive a covered service at this piss poor "establishment". read more

Got two email appt notifications- one said that the appointment was set for the kid that really needed it and the second email said the appt wasn't set for the other kid because of overbooking and I was given another possible appt date that was a month later. I LATER noticed that way further down in the email that said my other kids appt wasn't set - it said ' I am sorry but (other child's name) wasn't schedule that was the wrong email sent'. What?...you wrote at the end of an automatic email that my other kids appt wasn't actually set as well instead of calling? Back to arriving at what I thought was a scheduled appointment. They were only allowing one family to check in at a time even though their waiting room has decent space for social distancing. We were waiting outside for about 10 min with three or four other families before it was our turn. We finally get past check in just to be told that my other sons appt wasn't actually scheduled because of an issue with their online booking system. I tell them my kid really needed the appointment but was given other scheduling dates, of which were not going to work for me. I moved my schedule around just for this appointment. She then added that I couldn't bring my other kid with me once I rescheduled because only one person(the parent) can be with the patient during the appt. That's understandable but I just declined services. The icing on the cake was as we were walking out, they were snickering and laughing...not once but twice before we exited. Not saying they were laughing at us but it was definitely unprofessional in this situation. If I was actually called about neither appt. being booked I wouldn't have had to waste my time, but I'm glad to know that this is not the place I want caring for my kids dental services. The receptionist was warm, the X-ray tech was friendly, and the hygienist was gentle during the cleaning. She also kept me informed as to what she was doing the entire time. I paid to get whitening trays I was told they will be done the same day came the next day they still weren't done also they had someone doing my trays that didn't know how to fully do them and then I was told to pick them up next week. do not go to this place!! please do not bring your children here.on sept 4th 2021 i brought my grandson in for severe pain in a back tooth,they took x-rays and told me his wisdom tooth was impacted and pushing against his molar and needed to come out,the dentist then said as a matter of fact all his wisdom teeth need to come out.i went ahead and scheduled him for surgery for september 30th. his mother brought him to his appointment on september 30th and a different dentist told my daughter they didn't know what we were talking about that none of his wisdom teeth had even come in yet and they definitely didn't need to be pulled out but the pain in his back tooth was caused from a large filling that was loose and needed a root canal. the dentist from this day was looking back at the records to see what diagnosis they gave my grandson on september 4th and there were no notes at all, however i have a bill that indicates that four impacted molars needed to be removed on september 30th!!! needless to say my daughter left that office september 30th and took him back to his regular dentist!! i absolutely would never recommend this place and please don't bring your children here apparently they were about to pull four teeth out of my grandson's mouth that did not need to come out read more
