I stopped by here today when I got stood up for my daily morning tennis practice and I had an hour to kill before I had to be at work. I was looking for a place to enjoy some caffeine and read a good book. The parking situation was strange. There were tons of stalls open but it looks like the local businesses cone them off and I couldn't really tell why. I found a spot that said reserved and just crossed my fingers that it was okay to park there. While I was waiting in line they asked me to move my car to a different spot and moved one of the coned off parking spots for me to park in. So basically I couldn't get a feel for how the parking situation works at all. Some of the drink prices seemed a little pricey to me all things considering, but I ended up getting the strawberry banana smoothie since they weren't offering my go to chai tea latte. I wanted something to snack on while I read, but nothing on their breakfast menu really appealed to me. Basically I am a classic bacon egg and cheese kind of gal. The staff seemed nice and they offered free wi-fi but I guess I just expected more given all of the great Yelp reviews. I would give this place a second chance and try it as a lunch spot. read more

Went back recently and tried their garlic veggie sandwich... yum!! It really is in a ghetto area, and looks sketchy from the outside, but it has a really nice atmosphere inside, similar to the small cafes in Korea. The only things I've had here are the sandwiches. The garlic steak sandwich was so-so. The avocado special and tomato special sandwiches are great. They get a little messy when you get down to the last few bites, but that's simply because they're packed so full of ingredients... I'd say that's a pretty problem to have, for a sandwich. The reason for the 4-star... the aforementioned sandwiches are a great, filling meal, especially if you're carbing-up on healthy carbs before an intense training/workout sesh. If you're a meat-lover, which I happen to be, then everything here leaves something to be desired. I'm not a fan of the salads that are included with the sandwiches, only because of the slivered ginger... I'm just not a fan of it. But I always opt for the salad (and I have asked for it w/o ginger, and they still put in the ginger in it), because the only other option is a bag of potato chips or funyuns or whatever they have on hand, which sort of defeats my healthy meal - which is why I'm here to begin with. Overall, it's a cool little spot with filling, healthy sandwich options. When you're the mood for that - this place hits the spot. read more

Don't miss this place! The sandwiches here are AMAZING. They are also enough to share between 2 people. You have to hold them with two hands to keep everything from falling out! The atmosphere here is pretty quiet. The decor is beautiful and inviting (something which is rare in HI). It seems like a comfortable place to get some work done, I think they had free wi-fi. The coffee is also quite good. I am always surprised there aren't more people here! The location is a little bit hidden, and the facade is not particularly inviting, so I don't think they get as much traffic as they deserve. read more

Looking for a quiet place to study? This is place is it. In fact it's so mellow here that the classical music they play makes me want to go to sleep lol. I ordered the steak sandwich and comes with a salad or chips. Every purchase also comes with a tea. Me and my gf came here to look for flights. We were able to get online through their complimentary wifi connection. We sat on the second floor and the AC was on blast so I advice wearing something warm. The 1st floor has 3 tables but we chose the 2nd for a little more privacy and upstairs is a lot more spacious. Parking is not the best. One way to go in and out. So communication with the other driver is a must. There's a stench that just lingers. I believe it's from the dumpsters from the restaurants nearby. Its a hole-in-the-wall if there ever was one, hidden away in a very sketchy part of town. But this little cozy mom-n-pop store really fills me with joy. Their homemade sandwiches are always so good and the love that runs the place is really evident in the product they produce. The space is nice but the drinks aren't. I've come here twice now to work. The coconut latte was way too sweet and barely had any espresso. The açaí banana smoothie was mostly banana. I was annoyed because the owner wouldn't let me make my own smoothie mix. The only options are strawberry banana, açaí banana, and blueberry banana (probably because bananas are cheap). The drinks are pricey too. Would recommend other coffee shops in the area instead read more

My absolute FAVORITE PLACE!!!!!!!! LOVE their mixed tomato sandwich & garlic steak! I come here almost everyday because ajumma and ajuhsshi are soooo friendly here. Their sandwiches are healthy also! Packed with veggies and stuffings are baked. I dont feel guilty eating their sandwiches at all. I would choose this place over subway ANY day! Pretty good sandwiches and coffee FOOD: They offer very good sandwiches, which are generous in size and have tasty ingredients.The garlic steak sandwich is especially unique and flavorful. They also offer a good selection of coffee drinks, but I haven't found them to be very sweet (which is completely personal preference) - for example the ajumma's blended latte is like a frappe, but not overly sweet and has a strong coffee taste. SERVICE & SPACE: Don't be fooled by the unimpressive exterior and location (in a small lot off of Young St.) - this place is really cute inside! There is always plenty of seating every time I come, with a downstairs and upstairs seating area. Service is pretty fast and friendly too. I parked my car in the stall in front of the Korean resturant next to their store, thinking I could park there. The female worker from the Korean resturant came out to tell me to park on their side. I'm almost afraid to post about this place because its a great little hidden study spot that hasn't yet become too overcrowded or too high school/undergrad "student-y." Small place, clean, cute and open late. I just got the Ajumma latte/coffee ? which was good - super, super sweet and kept me up half the night. And I don't usually respond to coffee caffeine. The K-lady running the shop even gave us some free red bean mochi to try out. Yummy! Korean style "mochi" so not too sweet. I like sitting upstairs. And the other thing I noticed. . . LOTs of electrical outlets - this is becoming a pet peeve of mine with my shortening laptop battery life - coffee shops that don't have outlets. Grrr... Anyway, this is a great little place for working as long as you don't mind the loud ajummas downstairs. ;) read more

The place is super duper clean, don't judge the parking lot, since the neighboring stores don't look as nice. The inside of spero spera looks like the owners really cared about the restaurant. My wife got the avocado lover sandwich, look for her review, @ Olivia, she said it was good too. She also ordered the afogato and it was bomb!!!!! Vanilla ice cream on espresso with flakes, yummmy! I would go just for that. My only gripe was the funions instead of real onion rings but I thought five stars was still justifiable but also because of the size had to go down to four. read more

Ordered a mixed Avocado sandwich for $9.55 that came with a cop of free coffee, paid $10 (tax included). Pretty good deal for the portion. Got a choice of chips or salad for the side. I got the salad with testy dressing. Inside, there was a ham, egg and lot of veggies with moderate amount of mayo (I did not test mayo, which I prefer). This little shop is so warm and cozy, it has pretty beautiful paints on the wall and little book conner, the acai bowl is pretty good but small compare with other cafe, and it's a little pricy as well. The reason I'm giving four star is because the owner had a poker face at the entire time and wasn't friendly at all... Still, it's a nice place to hang out with friends and read book. read more

Ambience: Part of a Korean strip mall, looks run down on the outside but the inside is quaint and cozy. Definitely would be a good place to have small group get togethers, study groups, or work independently, especially with free Wifi! Food: limited menu, but all the sandwiches looked good and within a $6-8 range, but comes with coffee and chips (which I'm pretty sure are Funyuns) or salad. Sandwich was very filling and packed with goodies like veggies and their house sauce. Quality ingredients though the sauces/dressing may make it a little messy. Service: Orange-water! is serve yourself, but the staff are all very friendly and patient. Parking: not sure what it's like when it's really crowded, but the owner valeted our car for us...so, that's a plus? I wonder what they do when they run out of spots... A bit disappointed they didn't want to switch wheat bread for white bread even though they had wheat bread available because "that is how the sandwich is made." Free small coffee with every meal.
