Possibly the worst Indian food I've had in a while. We decided to try this new Spice Box place tonight but now regret this decision. We had Garlic Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Aloo Gobi, and a Mango Lassi. The 'Garlic Naan' was stale and flat like cardboard. The Tikka Masala was much too spicy (got 1 star) and the flavor was off. Aloo Gobi was OK at best but still extremely spicy. The potatoes were not cooked right and had a hard consistency. The Mango Lassi taste was alright but the drink itself seemed watered down. Overall a disappointing experience for Cap Hill Indian food. Stick to other options like Mirch Masala. read more

Love this spot! My boyfriend and I usually get a dish with two orders of naan - we always get our favorite garlic naan, and we've tried the aloo and spinach paneer naans as well (both are great!). The naan here isn't super thick, which we like since it's soft but also crispy on the edges. We find that two orders is perfect for us (each order of naan comes with two pieces). We also love the malai kofta, which is savory and comes with rice. The kheer was perfect - we were impressed that the level of sweetness was just right, not too sweet like rice pudding can be sometimes. I've been faithfully eating here often for a year now I haven't been for about 2 months... first the name has been spice box but now is under spice bliss which was strange... because the sign at the store still says spice box. Second I was soo excited to get food and eat... the naan was dry... NEVER has it been before. The flavor of my tikka masala was just NOT FLAVORING and the shrimp were tiny & overcooked. The rice wasn't even the yellow rice that it has always been. They also didn't add any utensils napkins or a straw in my bag which I requested. Last but not least none of the nice cute gentlemen that were working there before weren't there which makes me believe they are under new management very saddening or hopefully they're just on vacation or something... but I was disappointed today and didn't eat none of it. read more

This is one of my favorite spots for Indian takeout. My go-to is the maal combo - a vegetarian dish with mushrooms and spinach. Even though I eat meat I always get this because it's so good. Not a huge fan of the butter chicken, it's a bit too sweet. Naan is solid. read more

Biryani was very delicious, and the yogurt that came on the side paired with it really well. Amazing authentic Indian food!! I'm certainly not an authority on Indian food but my roommate who grew up in Bhopal, India loved both curries we got. Food: Maal Combo (5/5): Creamy spinach curry with chunks of mushroom and chickpeas. The curry was so creamy with a depth of savory flavor and perfectly spiced. Navratan Korma (5/5): one of the best curries I've ever had!! They curry was creamy, spiced, and a little sweet (reminded me of makhani I've had at other restaurants) and loaded with vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, green peppers, onions, maybe zucchini?). Would 100% get again. Curries came with rice (only critique is we expected to get 2 boxes of rice since we ordered 2 curries). Rice was really good and had cumin seeds throughout :)) Was so hungry/excited to eat that I forgot to take pictures, but can't wait to try more things! Best goat curry I've had in my life. It had a wonderful, rich sauce, perfect hints of spice, and an all-around perfect flavor. My husband had the Butter Marsala, which he loved, and he can be very particular with Indian food. I thought it also had a great flavor to it, better than any other one I've tried but I've only tried 5 or 6 places in Seattle. I can without a doubt say that this is the restaurant where I can confidently stop my search for a better Indian restaurant. COVID takeout. Late afternoon lunch hunt. Pre-ordered by phone, got an ETA of 15-20 mins, and food was perfectly packaged and waiting for me upon arrival. Greeted with kindness and, though masked, I can tell there were smiles. Located adjacent to Mud Bay, no close street parking (except across the street), but there is a convenient pay by hr lot immediately to left of restaurant. Got home and dug right in. For 2 people, admittedly this was a lot of food--plenty for at least 2 meals. Containers looked small, but wow, eaten with the rice and naan...we were so full and more than 2/3 of food leftover! Huge portions--don't be deceived by the size of the containers. Both the lamb and the goat were tender, juicy, not overly spicy hot (ordered spice level 2,which was spicy but not enough to overpower the food or make you break out in a sweat). Lamb korma was in a delicious onion based sauce, while the goat curry is tomatoe based. Great contrast of flavors. Butter naan was thinner than I have had in past, but sturdy enough to scoop up the saucy dishes plus biteful of rice without sogging up. They were so accommodating, kindly obliged to hold fresh cilantro on everything. I was stuffed but couldn't resist a spoonful of rice pudding (helped to cool off spicy heat from the food)--no pistachios like I have had before, but not overly sweet and with a hint of rose water?? Really yum. I also took a sip of hub's mango lassi--a little thinner than other lassis, but not overly sweet, with a tiny bit of tartness. Refreshing and thirst quenching. Order the full chicken and you get two containers of rice and a whole chicken of juicy, freshness, and deliciousness! I've generally not had good experiences with Indian food in Seattle-proper, but Spice box is a refreshing addition with good food. The food isn't to die for or even on par with the options in the suburbs, but given the competition and locality, they at least provide fresh and delicious food. It's a small place with a few tables inside, but it's a to-go and delivery first establishment. They don't have dine-in during the pandemic anyway. As it's located right on Broadway, it makes traffic and parking a pain. There's a small lot next to the restaurant, but it's only accessibly if you're going from Pike to Pine. The food here is good and fresh. We tried a few curries, a biryani, and the aloo tikki appetizer, and it was all prepared well. Both our curries, tikka masala and kofta, seemed to taste pretty similar, but they tasted good. The biryani, even though on the menu as dum (smoked) biryani, didn't have any smoky flavor, but was well made and tasted good. The aloo tikki was also well made. The naans were just alright though. The prices are pretty reasonable given the neighborhood, and the portions are pretty large. The staff was friendly and very professional, and let us know while ordering that it would be a while for the food to be ready as they were swamped. This isn't the best indian food you'll have, but for the location and accessibility, they do a really good job. Definitely recommend trying this place out! read more

London is famous for its Indian cuisine. Often said the best Indian food in the world is there. This small, take out spot is offering some truly authentic, delicious food to rival the best London has to offer. Sure, there is no elegant atmosphere, no Dhoti dressed servers. Instead, there is very reasonably priced, delicious food. We have tried many of the menu items and cannot isolate a favorite. There are close to 70 items available. Let's just say over the past year so many times we have been disappointed without take out orders from a wide range of restaurants. This is one of the very best take out choices we have experienced. Depending upon your order, some reheating may be needed. Not to worry, it will tolerate reheating and still be so good. Not so true with many places we have tried. I've ordered take out from here a couple of times and it has been really good and always ready on time. Portions are sizable. I've been to other Indian restaurants that give you two pieces of meat and the rest is sauce but Spice Box actually gives you what you expect and paid for. The tikka with lamb is probably my favorite but I've tried several of the other curries which are all tasty. Also the spice rating is accurate.
