My wife and I went here for dinner and we were both totally satisfied by the meal. They moved recently from Rockville so it wasn't too busy, but we suspect business will be picking up soon. The place is relatively small, and is tucked in between the Dutch market and Outback. The samosas were tasty, but the chicken tikka masala and Shani Paneer were both fantastic. The prices are also reasonable ( 2 meals, naan, and samosas with plenty of leftovers for less than $30). We'll definitely be coming back, either for take out or sit down. read more

We've been searching for a local, tasty Indian restaurant, and this is definitely it. The food is varied and delicious, whether you order from the menu or take advantage of the buffet. We had been burned with other restaurants, but we tried a sample when we were in the shopping center one Saturday going to another shop. Amazing butter chicken!! We came back for the buffet, and it was all delicious. The sag paneer was flavorful without being overwhelming. The chickpeas weren't mushy. The spices blended beautifully without one being too assertive. And the service was personal and professional, and very attentive. We will definitely be back! read more

I have been here for the lunch buffet a couple of times and I am a huge fan. Everything was fresh and delicious. The owner really added to the experience, he made sure we had everything we needed and even brought us out special naan at the end of our meal...unreal. I have visited the restaurant on a handful of occasions. I am familiar with some other local Indian restaurants also and have dined at Curry place, India Palace, and Eastern Kabob to name a few. As regards Spice Grill it's price point is comparable to others for lunch buffet which it offers for $10.59 including tax 7 days a week. Some of the positives are the rich and flavorful saag paneer and butter chicken. Unfortunately, the inconsistent and often lukewarm buffet food detracts from true enjoyment. The restaurant itself is small and would not be pleasant to dine in when busy. The manager is a mercurial man that is often welcoming yet has a tendency to be abrupt and slightly rude on occasion. His temperament was off putting to me when he had a protracted conversation regarding his business costs and quality at which point I mentioned a competitor that I thought was also good. I didn't intend any derision to his restaurant as myself and other customers were complimentary. However, he seemed visibly agitated by my remark and said "No, you're wrong" simply because I had said another restaurant was also good. Unbelievably when leaving a buffet lunch he said unprovoked "Indian people don't tip" disparaging his primary customers. The two stars are for quality of food. Sadly customer service is lacking as is the proprietor's sense at times. read more

Cozy and relaxed atmosphere, friendly, and consistently delicious food. The goat curry is a must try. The food in the buffet is top quality and its menu changes regularly. Spice Grill offers excellent Indian cuisine for very reasonable prices. This is the first Indian restaurant that I've tried since relocating to Gaithersburg. I bookmarked it weeks ago based on past yelp reviews and after missing the mark last Saturday (had just closed post lunch and I was too hungry to wait until dinner). While at the Dutch Market, Spice Grillw as giving out Butter Chicken samples so my wife tried it. My wife and I love that dish and get it often from other places. She came home raving about how good it was and we should try it. So, I ordered 2 orders with 2 garlic naans. The whole process was great from ordering to paying and getting home. However, once home I realized they gave me plain naan, not what we paid for. In addition, it went in the trash because it was under cooked and I could taste the dough. The butter chicken was not what my wife sampled the day before. It wasn't worth calling as I was not going back out. I asked my wife if we planned on going back, because if so, I would call and let them know of the error and credit the naans for a future visit. My wife said "heck no, will not be going back. Food is average at best and dinner was ruined due to them screwing up the order". So...I just decided to put up the review. read more

A friend first introduced me to Spice Grill about a year ago for lunch. I have enjoyed Indian food at many of the well known local Indian restaurants so I'm no stranger to the cuisine. There is the feeling of having a warm and satisfying home cooked meal here. The buffet is smaller than other local places, but there is an unmistakable taste in their freshly prepared foods. There are no fast cooked items here. Expect tender lamb, savory Saag Gosht, tons of fresh cauliflower in the Aloo Gobi (my favorite), and of course fresh prepared Naan bread brought to your table. Everything we have tried has that perfect blend of flavors that you'd expect from owners who clearly love what they do and want you to come back. This place is wonderful! I came during my lunch break and the waitress, Maria, was so nice and attentive. The buffet had tandoori chicken, butter chicken, curried goat, vegetables, and rice. The list goes on but what I had on my plate was good and the Naan makes you wish you had a paper bag in your purse. It's a nice, quiet place to have lunch in the scorching heat. The spice wasn't too bad in my opinion and I don't eat too much spicy food. The flavor and service will make me a repeat customer. read more

I heart Indian food so hard. I've tried India Palace before which is good but gave this a shot today when I did a search online to see what I could find near Clarksburg. The owner greeted me, explained that his recipes are different than other Indian places and gave me samples of lentils and palak paneer to try. Wow. He was right. These were different, seemed healthier but just as yummy. The spinach tastes like real fresh spinach, not a bunch of cream with a bit of spinach, the lentils were firm, fresh and perfectly spiced. I got the palak paneer, baingan bharta and the malai kofta, naan and a rice pudding. My husband (and I and even our 7 year old son) are in love. We will be back soon! A must try. read more

Went for the first time for sunday buffet. The one basket of hot naan included with the buffet was served hot and plain yummy! The buffet was good food but very little selection. The butter chicken was delicious and the goat dish was exceptional too. The lentils were under cooked a bit. However all this for the price of $9.99 is not terrible. read more

The owners take great care to ensure the food is fresh, the atmosphere is clean, pleasant and authentic. The food is AMAZING! They know how to cook and know how to present the food. I was a lunch regular at this place at least until the owner started questioning me about why I was always there for lunch buffet but not for dinner I told him that I work every night and I only get a couple of lunches free so literally a was forced to explain my going out for lunch habits by this man but I decided to give it another try next time I went the wife was there, she's very pleasant and then the very next time the husband was there and again so he started questioning me about me liking his goat meat so much and not trying the rice as much but this time I didn't feel like explaining myself to this guy I didn't feel like explaining to him that it was doctor's orders to stay away from starchs for my cholesterol's sake so I said is there restrictions on certainly food around here? Cause the sing outside says ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET to what he said,well I'm going to put it on the sing that there is restrictions ok. So he probably lost his one faithful lunch regular and not only that as I was getting ready to leave two ladies were walking in first timers and they asked me about the place and I told them about the food being decent but the owner being really rude and immediately they turn around and left, talk about instant carma ha. Another time he yelled at me for putting the empty bread basket on top of my empty plate, he said and I quote cause you put the basket on top of the plate now I have to wash it, I guess he doesn't understand that once you put any plate ware on tables and especially if the plate ware was used it has to be washed so know this every time he brings bread to the tables those baskets are being used God knows for how many people before the were run through the dishwasher machine if he has one I was walking to my car I ran to the ladies that have just walked out the restaurant because I told them what had happened and they said and I quote, what difference does it make what food you eat or not the place it's completely empty, no wonder the place is so empty, we hope you didn't have to pay for your food didn't you? No I didn't get free lunch that's not what I'm after I just want everyone to know that when you go to spiced grill stay away from the the goat meat and good luck with the rude owner everyone read more
