In New Jersey, there are probably hundreds - if not thousands - of Indian restaurants but, in my opinion, nowhere will you find a better Indian restaurant than Spice Grill in Parsippany New Jersey. The owner and host, Mr. G. S. Chauhan, immediately makes you welcome as you walk through the door. He is absolutely passionate about not only the quality of his food but the entire dining experience. And oh that food! Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, Paneer Makhani -- one dish after another that convinces me that I am in dining heaven. My favorite night is Sunday, when they have a buffet that allows you to taste 8 to 10 of their favorite specialties, complete with naan, and a wide assortment of appetizers. The only problem I have is that the food is so delicious, I eat far more than I should. During the meal, you'll be sure to see Mr. Chauhan as he stops by your table to make sure that your experience is everything that he wants it to be. No words can do it service. Stop in for lunch, dinner, or my special favorite, the Sunday buffet. Your taste buds will thank you for it. read more

Prepare to get sick from eating at this place - because I did last week! Good Indian buffets are few and far between in Northern NJ. So despite Spice Grill's declining quality, unsanitary practices (customers think nothing of reusing their plates to take more food--and management does nothing), and decision to replace any remaining taste in their food with dangerously excessive peppering and related heat-level seasoning, I would come occasionally in hopes it would improve. But it has gotten much worse. Even their chicken biryani - which was at one time good - is soiled with a burned/heat level so excessive that you can't even taste the chicken, rice or anything else. Some dishes should have a degree of "heat" -- but briyani is a staple that should be enjoyed for its pleasant taste---not burn one's stomach lining and result in bloody stool. In their deep fried dosa balls, which used to be an edible appetizer, the potato filling has been doctored with an overwhelming degree of heat that makes it impossible to taste - or enjoy...even when dousing with chutney to try to reduce the burn. Same with the spinach dish (usually embedded with mushrooms or paneer), which is generally a safe (and even healthy) option at most Indian places. But at Spice Grill it's just burned with heat. Spicing is one thing if it adds to the taste; but when it's used to mask the fact that the food has no discernible taste another than the "heat" level, it defeats the purpose. The establishment readily admits that they've changed their recipes to increase the heat level across the board. But when told that this made many of the dishes impossible to enjoy and, in fact, unedible, the rather racist reaction I received was, "this food is for Indians and Indian food is spicy" and "if you don't like it you shouldn't be here." Why not just post a sign inviting the groups they want as patrons? I may be a non-Indian Caucasian, but I happen to love good Indian food...even with a spice kick. The food at Spice Grill is hideous. I was sick until what I ate this past Friday had passed. It can cause or exacerbate a stomach ulcer and ignite very bad acid reflux. I will heed their recommendation to NEVER return...unless it is taken over by another owner/operator. read more

Went here for lunch with a bunch of co-workers. Hadn't tried Indian food in quite some time. They had a buffet out so it was nice to try a variety of Indian Cuisine. This place is ok. I've been there about 3 times. The first time I was not impressed at all! After that I tried again because my boss told me that the delicious indian food they ordered for lunch came from there. The food is similar to home cooked. Good if you need something while on the go in the area but I can't see myself making it my destination, "go-to" restaurant. Staff is super friendly and very attentive. Well to sum things up, be sure to check your order and receipt, because the owner will over charge you and your family. We are a regular customer to this place, and we always have to double check our receipt and order to make sure that the staff did not charge us for something that we did not eat...on top if you try to order a pick up they will mess your order up and will make you wait 30 mins and still get the order wrong....please if you decide to go there make sure you double check your order and receipt, ask for a break down of charges...better yet know what you order and how much the order should come out to. read more

I went on a busy Saturday night with a party going on in the banquet room and multiple large groups. We still got great service! I really enjoyed the Mixed Grill (bunch of different Kababs), Tikki Masala and they even offered refills on rice. My only complaint was that the Chai was a little plain and not as strong as I like. Their food is phenomenal, especially their tikka masala. Fresh, full of flavor, the meat is always fall apart tender and melt in your mouth moist. The service there isn't the best but i could care less about that because the food is great. You can tell it's all freshly made with nice, fresh ingredients and spices. read more

This place used to be big a couple years ago. I feel as if the food was much better back then as well. Now a days many other indian places have opened and I feel as their food quality has gone down. we are a regular customer, since it was open and the food was excellent and the staff were all good. But for the last couple of times when we ordered to take out they did the same mistake, likewise my son has egg allergy and has be rush to emergency and I also ask the not to adds in chicken fried rice or any other items, and while taking the order and also when my husband went to pick up the order, he particular asked the owner repeatedly regarding the egg and he promised that there is no egg added,but when I checked it was like a omelette cut into small pieces and spread and we called and asked, the owner refused to speak and told that they didn't add egg in the veg. fried rice. There's a lot of Indian places but this one is the best. The palak paneer, vindaloo and tikka masala are glorious. The gulab jamun, rasmalai and suji halwa (all desserts) are very good. I love Spice Grill. The food is always consistent. I love the cauliflower appetizer in a dry brown rub with onions. My husband loves the spicy vegetarian dishes especially ones with the cubed cheese. I always order the chicken vindaloo with white meat only and it's always the perfect spice level. The breads are delicious. We get the roti and the garlic naan. It's our go to Indian restaurant. Spice grill is one of my favorite places when I get that Indian cuisine crave. I usually come for the lunch buffet, and it is one of the best in north jersey. Plenty of variety in the buffet. Generous servings of fresh-baked naan bread. The owner knows customer service. He once brought out a personal serving of sizzling chicken from the tandoori oven.
