Tried it out the new restaurant in the old Emperor's Palace location on Rockwell. Monday at 5 PM. We were the only folks in the restaurant, but I'm not sure if that's because it's a random Monday at 5 PM or it's a new restaurant. The venue/facility is really cool school lots of gingerbready detail details. Server was a little aloof and snarky, maybe a cultural thing, just had a feeling that she didn't want us there or she didn't want to be there We tried a couple dim sum items; the black phoenix bun was probably by far the best. Black Phoenix Bun Safted Egg, Milk, Condense Milk, Coconut Milk,Butter. Puffy black pastry, nice and soft with lava interior that was sweet and savory at the same time, but man it was hot. This is by far the favorite thing we had today We had some soup dumplings, not nearly as good as LJ shanghai. But we also had some stirfry beef with chili pepper, and it came out with green peppers that were not nearly as spicy as the red chili peppers in the picture. The lo mein, the vegetable lo mein was really really good and the size of the portions were huge, homemade egg roll was fantastic. Coke was flat, and the only available iced tea was really sugared up. So kind of hit and miss I don't wanna hurt him since we're early. The second review give them a four star based on the black Phoenix bun by itself may give these guys six months and try again.

    Candied taro and eggplant

One of my favorite new Chinese restaurants. Don't be scared by prior bad reviews - this place has legit authentic Asian food. Order off the menu and you won't regret it. We got the dry fried pork liver (so flavorful, just the right amount of spice), the candied eggplant and taro (it's dessert but vegetables), and sautéed Chinese lettuce (perfectly blanched). Portion sizes were big. The servers were so nice. Definitely check this place out!

Cashew chicken and assorted dim sum

Fantastic space with lots of gold inlay to make the room pop. The space was mostly empty for a late weeknight but we were seated quickly and our food was prepared fresh and hot. Dim sum and cashew chicken were our orders. We had a vegetarian dumpling as well as some shrimp with rice noodle and chicken shu mai. We will be back for sure to try some new items that looked amazing.

Clockwise: Beef tripe, crab meat pork soup dumpling, and black truffle shrimp dumpling

This place used to be Emperor's Palace. The new management kept the same concept of serving dim sum and the interior decors. There are no carts being pushed around, but rather, you'd order the dim sum from the menu. There's also regular dishes from their other menu. The tables next to us ordered off the regular menu and everything looked amazing. We came to try the dim sum and only ordered from their dim sum menu. The dim sum selections are limited, but unique. There's a few items that you cannot find at LiWah or Boloong. We really liked the black truffle shrimp dumpling, crab pork meat soup dumpling, and pork and shrimp siu mai. Even though the menu claimed to be "crab pork meat soup dumpling", I didn't taste or see any crab meat in the soup dumpling. The roast duck spring rolls are good. It's pretty much roasted duck with green onions rolled up and deep fried. We didn't really care of the beef tripe and plain chang fun. The beef tripe was well seasoned but not cooked through. It was still very tough and rubbery when you chew. The plain chang fun was the worst of all the items we ordered. The texture was super chewy, more like they had more tapioca than rice flour in the batch. It was so chewy that I almost choke trying to swallow it. We won't be ordering it again. The service was extremely slow! There were only 3 workers when we dined: the hostess, the bus lady, and the server (whom appeared to be the owner). We initally thought the bus lady was the server and wanted to place our order through her. But she then spoke in broken English that she cannot take orders. We had to wave the hostess down to place an order. It took 15-20 minutes for the first 3 items to come out, then another 10 minutes for 2 more. We then place another order with 3 items and it took the same time, super slow and long in the world of "dim sum". I don't recommend on dining here unless you're willing to wait. It's too expensive. For a table of 5, you can easily spend over $100 on dim sum. By the way, do not order hot tea! They charged us $2.95/person for hot tea and it tasted very weird. The receipt read "chrysanthemum tea" but there was no flower in the tea pot. It had a chemical taste to it and super orangey looking.

Love a Yunnan rice noodle soup place! The menu is vast and restaurant has so much seating. Food…read morecomes out relatively quickly and the boba was great! Right next to some other Asian businesses as well. Highly recommend! Great spot for a quick lunch.

Came here twice now and it's been great both times…read more You can order either with the staff or on your phone--if it's via the phone, someone will still come by and confirm your order. I've had the rice noodles, the paper wrapped fish, and the drinks. The rice noodles have been decent both times--soup is flavorful and there is a good portion of noodles. The shrimp soup dumplings were good--would order again. What stood out more was the paper wrapped fish--I never had anything like it before and was surprised by the chosen combination of ingredients--french fries, potato noodles, chiba tofu (stringy noodle shaped), but it was good. I chose the tomato flavor, which was good--I would definitely be interested in trying the other flavors as well. Also chose add-on sides with lotus root and cauliflower (both were good but highly recommend the cauliflower since it had a roasted taste to it that added more to the dish). It was such a large portion and came with rice, that we definitely had to bring back leftovers. The drinks are consistently good. So far, I've had the tofu pudding milk tea (G28) and the oatmeal taro milk tea (G40, oatmeal similar to overnight oats texture, and taro tastes fresh), and I would definitely get both again. The environment/seating area is spacious and comfortable--perfect for socializing with friends and/or bringing your family Staff checked in frequently (made sure we were attended to and confirmed after we placed the orders via phone) Parking available as free parking on both sides (few spots for cars on E 30th ST side, more on side closer to E 31st street). Overall consistently good food with a good ambience---I'll definitely be back.
