Heck's is always a good option for a quaint and tasty lunch. Stopped in on a Thursday afternoon and there were only a few people inside. You can't beat the awesome ambiance that's created by ceiling skylights and the whimsical spiral stairs in the middle of the restaurant. I got the fish and chips and my dad got the heck's burger. The fish wasn't really seasoned at all, but it was nice and crispy. The tartar sauce was really tasty and I even used it for my potato wedges. Oh and I loved the slaw!!!! It was vinegar based and reminded me of like a Thai slaw. You can never go wrong with their burgers, however i did see a few other items on the menu that looked intriguing . Hecks in Ohio City is still one of the most charming venues with great food! The ambience of this location is exceptional. You start drinking in the rooms, just walking into the restaurant. It's a charming neighborhood, particularly with the Autumn leaves blanketing the area. Lunch was exceptional. I had the Au Chaval Burger. Mind you, I was skeptical because I used to live within walking distance from the actual "Au Chaval" in Chicago. This was every bit as good as the original, and trust me, the Au Chaval burger is better than you can imagine. It was two sunny-side-up eggs on excellent, high-quality beef with a dollop of sour cream and a quality bun. The fries are excellent, just soft enough to dip in ketchup and mayo and very tasty, not the least bit greasy. The service was as good as it gets. Heck's Cafe does not disappoint. I made a reservation and was seated where I was preferenced. I greatly appreciated the acknowledgement of my note on my opentable reservation. The cute scenic view of the spiral staircase with sunlight coming in through the windows is my favorite. Our waiter was very attentive, flexible and kind. We ordered the pierogis and potstickers as appetizers. It wasn't as flavorful as I remember it. But still not too bad, although they were pricey appetizers at $13, when my large burger and fries were only $15. One thing I will say is service is kinda slow, but I understand that they're very busy and have a lot going on so I definitely don't count that against them. I ordered the Ohio City Burger, the spice flavor was strong, but kinda wish I would've opted for a burger with an aioli sauce since it was dry. My friend got the blackened salmon burger which she enjoyed. The fries were decent too and I appreciated the large pickle slice. The basic coffee was surprisingly amazing and had a very strong fall mix taste. Highly recommend for anyone new to the area to check out Heck's. The waitress warned us an said people found it salty so I asked for no seasoning and just the sause it came with on the side and I thought it was great. I would order it again- but next time well done so it's not soggy. Truffle Fries 10/10 These were a table favorite! They are real fresh potatoes and are rich in truffle flavor no dipping necessary! Heck Burger 10/10 Cooked to my husbands specifications and fresh! Salmon entree 8/10 Falafel burger 10/10 Slightly spicy but filling and homemade! Went for Sunday brunch, while the food was very good, I am writing this review because the staff was exceptional, especially our server, Ylli. We didn't want for anything, we didn't have to ask for anything, we never had a half empty glass of water or mug of coffee. 100% in tune to what we wanted/needed before we realized it and his presence was never interrupting or annoying. Ylli should get a big raise and a promotion to head server. He truly has it all. Stopped in on Saturday for an early dinner and had a lovely time! We were seated readily at a table outside even though we didn't have reservations (thankfully we were early because it was pretty busy when we left). Everyone we encountered was so friendly - from being shown to the restrooms, being seated, and our actual server experience. There were so many menu options that looked good...it was hard to choose but we ended up going with the calamari appetizer and halibut tacos, mushroom ravioli, and salmon burger with fries. The calamari was delicious - just the right amount of breading and the jalapeño ranch was a great accompaniment. We were told the ravioli and tacos were new additions to the menu and I hope they stay because both were excellent! The ravioli was stuffed with mushrooms inside and the flavoring was perfect. The tacos contained generous portions of well-cooked halibut and the slaw and aioli were great. I didn't try the salmon burger but the fries were soooo good. Perfect experience all around. I think I'll order the crème brûlée next time. My friend seemed to enjoy her food as well. She's dairy and gluten-free, and they had no problem accommodating her. The only part of my experience that I didn't care for was my drink. I ordered a Bloody Mary with garlic-infused vodka, and it just wasn't for me.
