This is my second time at Spicy Chongqing. I left satisfied last time, and I'm just as satisfied this time! I won't say much about the ambiance or service -- let's focus on the food itself. Yu Xiang Rou Si (Fish-Flavored Shredded Pork): This is a classic Sichuan dish. The most authentic version comes from the Xiaohe school of Sichuan cuisine. Its signature flavor should have a subtle smoky note in the back of the nose. This dish strikes a great balance between sweet and salty. While the smokiness isn't very pronounced, the sweetness and spiciness are beautifully balanced. The heat here is more intense than at other places -- I think most Westerners might find it hard to handle, but personally, I love its straightforward, punchy character. Braised Eggplant: I've tried both eggplant dishes here, and each is outstanding. Eggplant itself is tricky to cook because it first absorbs oil and then releases it during cooking. The chef handles this perfectly. Mao Xue Wang (Spicy Tripe & Blood Curd Stew): Consistent and high-quality. Consistency is the most basic yet highest standard for judging any good stir-fry restaurant. Seafood Tofu Casserole: In my opinion, tofu is one of the greatest inventions in human culinary history. Soybeans contain substances that humans can't digest, meaning that without processing, they have no nutritional value. But when soybeans are broken down at the cellular level and transformed into tofu, all their nutrients and internal structure are redefined -- giving us this easily digestible and widely loved food. Since tofu's density makes it less likely to absorb flavors, a rich, thick sauce is a very clever approach. Sichuan Cold Noodles: I'd call this the best dish in the restaurant. Outstanding flavor, with a perfect balance of chili and Sichuan peppercorn. Will be back again! read more

I've seen this place several times when I have been at the ranch 99 market. Decided to stop in for a meal this evening and was not disappointed. My wife loves Chinese food, especially spicy food and this place delivered. We had spicy fish soup, shrimp, fried rice and a couple of other dishes. Portion sizes were generous, and everything was prepared quickly. From the time we ordered until the food was delivered to the table was less than 10 minutes. Our server was friendly and kept stopping by to remove used plates and dishes. Inside of the restaurant was very clean and ordering was hassle free. I'm writing to share a very disappointing experience during my recent visit. We arrived well before your posted closing time, yet the staff was clearly unwilling to serve customers. The chefs appeared just wanted to go home (so lazy) and unwilling to take our order even we said will be done before they close. If the kitchen closes earlier than the restaurant's stated hours, that should be clearly communicated to customers. Being ignored sends a message of carelessness and poor management. This place caught my attention as I walked by because everything on their display menu looked so affordable. I've been here many times for brunch and my experience has always been positive despite the price increase. As a big fan of spicy Chinese food, I've been to many restaurants that serve dishes full of red peppers but don't taste spicy at all. This place's food made me sweat every single time and so I am satisfied. They have classic Chinese spicy dishes that taste the same or better than some big places I've been to at a more affordable price. Personally, I enjoyed every dish I ordered at this place so far except for the stew duck with beer in spicy sauce. This is a dish that I haven't had for at least 15 years and I was beyond excited to see it on the menu. I didn't expect it to taste the same as the one in my memory. What a hidden treasure in the 99 Ranch Market near IKEA in Kent! This place is solid! It's refreshing to hear the cook whistling happily as he's cooking in the kitchen in this cozy little shop! I was craving some tasty Sichuan food so Spicy Chong Qing was a lucky find in the convenient and popular 99 Ranch plaza. My friend and I ordered the pickled fish and spicy dry beef appetizer, both classic dishes. The portion sizes where are very generous and the food tastes great. Another positive tell is that at an odd 3:00 Sun afternoon, the lunch crowd still sustained a waiting list. There's tons of good food options around but next time I come to Renton craving Asian food, Spicy Chong Qing will be high on the list! This is right inside the Great Wall Shopping Mall in the southmost entrance on the west side of the building. Large parking lot, but can get busy at times. I think we got the Seafood Tofu Pot, Wonton, Some spicy beef dish, green pepper and potato and a single cooked noodle? The tofu pot was okay, the potato and noodle soup were pretty decent, but the wonton was not good, nor the spicy beef dish. Wonton was just really bland and didn't taste fresh, and the spicy beef dish was just really oily and fatty. So, I guess still very similar to my experience from a year and a half ago. It looks like there were a lot of bad reviews recently but my experience wasn't too bad. It was one of the only restaurants open at 8pm on a weeknight in the mall so I was glad they were able to seat us. The servers were overwhelmed and even the kitchen help came out to help wait tables. Don't expect good service or even decent service but as least I got water after asking twice. We got the green beans, ma po tofu and the Chong Qing noodles. The green beans were really good. The ma po tofu was different than other places I've had and on the sweeter side. The noodles were good as was the soup. The spice level was good and not as overwhelming as I would have expected from Sichuan food. Definitely recommend getting rice to go with the dishes. I saw other people order a lot of interesting dishes so I will definitely be back again to try some other things on the menu. We had the Fried Chicken Cubes with Hot Pepper, Chong Qing Noodles, and the Combination in Dried Pot. Having had Schezuan food before , we were all in for the tingly spice! You order from your table thru a QR code and ordertogo.com website. The menu can be overwhelming with so many choices and not all of the items have photos. The restaurant was super busy on a Thursday night. Good sign that everyone looked like they were enjoying their food. Service was great and all the food we saw looked amazing so we took a chance on the Featured Specials section of the menu. I have to give a special mention for the Combination in Dried Pot. First, it comes in a dish kept warm over flame. It reminds me of army stew, everything you can think of in a pot with a spicy sauce. It was my first time trying lotus root which was thinly sliced, slightly crunchy and starchy. Along with the lotus, there were wood ear and shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, green beans, tripe, beef, luncheon meat aka Spam, and as weird as it sounds, potatoes in the form of French fries all simmering in that spicy pepper sauce. The food: Spicy Garlic Eggplant Thank goodness the container is black so I can't see clearly the lots and lots and lots of oil that this dish is swimming in. Even so, you can see it in my photo. Before I started eating, I poured out all the oil first. It's worth losing some of the sauce. Flavor wise, it's very good. Its spicy name delivers the kick. I just don't think my arteries can handle the oil. Shredded Pork with Bamboo Shoot Tip I chose this because I'm a fan of good, fresh bamboo. Some pieces were better than others; some pieces were still very chewy/stringy. Pretty big bummer. The pork pieces didn't have a discernable flavor, other than cooked. Very unfortunate. The saucy eggplant came in handy to flavor the pork. The front desk lady barely spoke enough English to take the order in English. I ended up using my feeble Mandarin to communicate. Rating for Chong Qing Style Fish, it was basically kind of boiling Tilapia fish in a large flat plate. A little bit overpriced (however all food price going up these days), $29.99 for basic, +$5 ($35 total, no reason for different fish sizes, in my opinion) for large fish. It was really really delicious, especially for whom from Szechuan China or like Chinese hot spicy food. The so called "hot-spicy" is pronounced "Ma-La" in Chinese. The "Ma" is from those small green Szechuan vine peppers, producing a numb feeling at tone and melting down the "La" (hot) from red chili peppers. The "Ma-La" represents most of famous Szechuan style, comparing to dry-hot (Hunan, China) and sour-hot (Guizhou and Yunnan, China) cuisines. More and more authentic Chinese food come to Great Seattle area. May not be able to compete with California (e.g. Irvine and Bay area) yet. Typically for such restaurant opened in 99 Ranch Market shopping mall, which collects some best cuisines, if not the best brands. I give 4 stars because the food is good, not great. I have had much better ones from other Sichuan restaurants. Definitely convenient as far as location since you know the number one rule for grocery shopping is to never shop with hungry stomach. Service was fast but trying to call the order was a challenge due to language and accent barriers. In the end, all worked out great. Spicy Eggplant - I do love this one as it's sweetness balance the other 4 dishes' saltiness. Not as spicy as the same dish served at other restaurants. Spicy Fried Chicken - hum, the last time I had this dish was from a Sichuan restaurant in Atlanta. Whenever I visit the Great Wall Shopping Mall, I eat at this restaurant. Personally, I think it's pretty authentic and spicy. The non-spicy dishes here are also definitely not as good as the spicy dishes. My family and I typically order 3 dishes: Fish with Preserved Vegetables, Chef's Special Green Beans 干煸四季豆, and Potato w/ Sour Sauce 醋溜土豆丝 (we request the spicy version of the potatoes). We ask for rice to accompany our meal and it fills us up. This is the perfect amount for about 3-4 people. I've also tried the Pork Intestines in Dry Pot, which is excellent. The Chungking Style Hot & Spicy Noodles 重庆麻辣面/线 are my brother's favorite. But there are many items on the menu that we haven't tried, but look equally delicious. read more

Oh yes! I am definitely coming back !! It was busy and now I know why. It took a while for them to take our order because only one server was available at the moments. I ordered lamb dish based on the picture on the wall, which wasn't on the menu. haha I had a no idea but the dish was amazingly good. Went here with my family and friends because my aunt said this place is the bomb and their food are great! We got here around 6ish pm on a Saturday. It wasn't busy, so we got seated pretty fast. The service there is alright, but not good. That all I need to say. There food is a hit or miss, we ordered 9 entrees as you can take a look at the picture attach to this review. Most of them are good but some tasted either too plain or a little bit too salty. My favorite dish was their "Toothpicks Lamb". It was delicous the portion size was decent, but I just can't stop eating them. Overall, I would come back here again, if I'm ever around the area. Craving something spicy? This place will satisfy that craving. Their Szechuan style food hits the spot every time. My lips might be burning and my nose might be running but it's so worth it! Don't worry, the numbing sensation only lasts a short time LOL. They have noodles, seafood, hot pots and more. Service is a bit slow for my liking but they get the job done. Our most recent visit was during COVID-19. I believe they only had 4 tables available for seating. Water was served in paper cups and we were provided with disposable utensils. My hubs and I came here for dinner last night and it was delicious. We had the fried rice which was pretty good. The wonton soup which was very flavorful and my only complaint here would be that I'd have preferred a bowlful of broth and a couple wontons and it was reversed. At least 15 wontons in a small bowl and not much broth. We had potstickers which also were quite food. And the half smoked duck. Let me say this. I hate duck. Let me repeat that. I hate. Despise. It really took forever to get water, get the order in, and finally the order was not correct and we were charged for it in the receipt. I thought I would give this place a try now that some of the restaurants opened up dine in service. First walked in didn't give me a very good impression. The older lady teenage so focus on sorting out the to go orders and ignored us like she doesn't want us to bother her. The younger one came over and she did a great job serving us tea and taking our orders. There are a lot of selections on the menu and a lot of them are specialty dishes from Chong Qing and I love to try them all honestly. Chong Qing's cuisines signature are spicy, bold flavor and give you a little bit numb sensation. I order the braised beef and oh my gosh the broth is exactly what I expected. Red hot spicy with lots of flavor. The noodles are just right. The bowl may look small but once I start eating them, I felt really fulfilling. The beef chow mein is using the same type of noodles. You can hear from the kitchen how much heat and the wok "Dragon breath" sound and the charred taste of the noodles steaming hot servicing us. This is definitely a place for me to come back for the boiled fish and other sour and spicy dishes. I wouldn't recommend order to go personally because of the spicy hot oil. read more
