i'm so overenthused by this place each time i come back. if you're vegetarian/vegan and looking for a great asian spot- this is your guy. if you're a meat eater and looking for a great asian spot, this is still really your guy. i can almost promise you won't be disappointed. the ambiance is what you'll notice first and they're slaying the game w it. cozy dark lighting with pink interior and plenty of seating. this location is great in that there's so much space that it's less noisy than it's more crowded counterparts. service is great too, the waiters are always happy to answer questions and even showed me comparison pictures of the different tofu dishes! i came with my mom most recently, so we needed to order GF appetizers for her. this includes the taro fries- which had fab spicy flavor but were ultimately too sticky, and the veggie drumsticks which rocked. fried to perfection. these wouldn't have been my first choices-- i usually go for the brussels or dumplings. but ultimately you can never really go wrong here. the drink menu is a major highlight, such fun and creative cocktails! i've never had a bad drink there truly. now this time around, i ordered the hot pot tofu and didn't love it like i thought i would. it was super mega fried and almost too crunchy, but great spicy tangy sauce coating. usually, i'd get either the kung pao or the ma pao-- which are both fantastic. my mom had the dan dan noodles and raved about the fake beef sprinkled on top. read more

Came here for some small bites on a sunday afternoon, and it was pretty empty. We decided to order a hen of the woods mushroom bao bun and a steamed spicy tofu bun to go. It took about 10 minutes to come out. We liked the tofu bun more, and definitely found it to be more worth the value than the bao bun. It had a good level of spice, and we liked the sauce it came with. The bao bun wasn't as flavorful. Definitely would come back to try their entrees. read more

I sat at the bar and ordered one of their beers as well as scallion pancakes from their happy hour menu. The prices are very reasonable during happy hour. Very good. They had me the very second I saw vegan Szechuan. I am always on the hunt for vegan/vegetarian spots and I have never encountered such a place. I made a reservation for early because we are old now. We were seated immediately upon arrival. I invited my parents who declined and it's probably for the best because the music is there, I wouldn't say it's too loud to prevent conversation, but not everyone likes pop classics from the 2010s-present. The lighting is dim (not ideal for photos) and pink which I found neat. The cocktails are on theme and cute. I ordered the ube mule which was spectacular. It is carbonated and purple and served in a bulbous glass that brings the whole thing together. GF ordered silk road of some sort that was very strong. I'm not accustomed to having the entire menu available to me so it can be overwhelming. We decided to order a few appetizers and a noodle dish. We went with the chopped cheese spring rolls, chili oil dumplings, potato and chive dumplings, and the dan dan noodles. The only negative about our experience is that everything came out in 2 seconds. I think GF looked at the time and it was like 15 mintues after we walked in the door we had a plate on the table. We don't love this becasue I would rather have some time to chat and enjoy my cocktail before being confronted with the shit I ordered. Everything was literally piping hot though. Nice but can be a tease. I tried the chopped cheese spring roll first. Amazing. What is that orange dipping sauce? Delicious. Next, I went with the chili oil dumpling which was also fantastic. The chili oil is....hot... believe it or not. My favorite of the meal were the potato and chive dumplings. Exceptional. you really can't go wrong with potato anything but especially a touch of chive or scallion. The dan dan noodles were SPICY. They do not fuck around. GF has made fun of me for my spice tolerance but she couldn't eat them. Amateur. I was getting full by this point so we got a box for everything and I very much enjoyed slurping the dan dan noodles later from the hotel room. Great ambiance and service. Fun place for groups. Came here for a friend's birthday dinner. Mocktails and cocktails were flowing. I thought the mocktails were delicious but a bit pricey. I've been wanting to try Spicy Moon for a while. The pink exterior immediately caught my eye (my favorite color). It stands out in the area. The inside is just as pretty with lots of art, dim lighting, and a really nice vibe. It seems like a great place for a date. It's spacious too, with a bar area, seating, and I believe an event space downstairs. It's a vegan Szechuan spot, and I tried the Dan Dan noodles and vegetable fried dumplings. My husband and I had a date night a few weeks ago. We saw a concert at Bowery Ballroom and sat down to dinner beforehand at Spicy Moon at Bowery. Our host seated us at a two person table. It's super crispy, perfectly seasoned, and adding the vegan chicken takes it to another level. It's the dish I always tell friends to order -- truly a must-try. The ambience is lively and a little bit noisy, the portions are generous, and everything comes out fresh and full of flavor. The service could be hit or miss though. I went during Happy Hour to grab a bite and ended up trying a few things! It was low lit with an art deco feel. The service was solid as well bringing out the food pretty quick. The beers were $5 and they're brewed in House. All the beers are delicious and refreshing, even if you don't care for beer. I always enjoy Buffalo seitan wings and these were solid. I had to be in the area for a dinner nearby but arrived about an hour early, so I decided to stop in since the happy hour menu caught my eye. It's definitely on the darker side inside, but still warm and inviting. The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel genuinely welcomed. It's one of those unexpected spots I can see myself coming back to and supporting, especially since they seem to host fun events on the weekends. The General Tso's mushrooms were good: whole button mushrooms, breaded and coated in a flavorful sauce. The scallion pancakes were also a standout--crispy, flaky, and chewy in all the right ways. I'd absolutely order those again. One of the most interesting things about this place is that it's a microbrewery. All of their drafts are brewed in-house, and I really enjoyed the watermelon sour. Went to Spicy Moon Bowery with a friend on a Sunday afternoon after visiting the New Museum. We were not looking for a full meal, but rather somewhere to catch up over a few light dishes and a drink. It was a warm, sunny day, and all of the outdoor tables (about 4-5) were occupied, so we sat inside by a window. The indoor space is quite large and divided into several rooms, with a long bar that seats around 8-10. We ended up in a quieter nook, which was nice, especially since the restaurant was fairly empty at that off-hour (around 4 PM). Despite that, service was a bit slow. We shared the string beans ($18.95) and the vegetable wontons in chili oil (13.95), both large enough portions to split. I also ordered the Hen of the Woods bao bun, which was tasty, but very small for the price of $9.50. The space is in what used to be the former Paulaner Biergarten, and you can still spot remnants like floor emblems and brewing equipment near the bar. Overall, the food was good, but overpriced for what it is. You could find very similar dishes in Chinatown for nearly half the price. That said, the Bowery location likely drives up the cost. All in all, it was a fine experience, but not somewhere I would rush back to. read more

I used to be a huge spicy moon fan. One of my favs in nyc but lately i've been underwhelmed by the food. For nostalgic sake, 4/5 but the food was more like a 3/5. I wouldn't recommend the curry stir fry -- was kind of odd. the salt and pepper one is much better. i also added fake chicken to it but i felt like they skimped on that. also wontons are usually amazing but they were mushy this time. overall, still a classic but quality has been declining. i'll probably still be back though read more

10/10 I would highly recommend Found out about spicy moon from vegan dale and decided I had to try them out in person. I had an excellent experience here. The service was great, I loved the ambiance it's very causal, relaxed and intimate setting. The food came out fast and very delicious. For starters I had the crabless Rangoon, with some wonton in chili oil( a little spicy). Followed by the cold sesame noodles, Dan Dan noodles and string beans ALL soooo good. I even tried out some of their homemade beers very crisp and refreshing. I would recommend the tropical beer and/ or the watermelon- strawberry. I would definitely come back or even try one of their other locations in the city. I just hope it's as good as this one lol read more

Honestly an awesome spot, especially if you have a large party. Made a reservation here for a work outing with a group of 17 with no problem. This location is huge, with plenty of seating. We were given a long table in the back and it didn't feel crowded at all. Food-wise, they have a variety of Chinese dishes that you can share. I also appreciated how even though this place is vegan, it can still cater to folks with nut allergies as we had a couple in our group. We probably ordered at least half the menu but some standouts to me were: - Dan dan noodles: the dan dan noodles here were really solid and had a nice kick without being overly spicy. - Dry pot: it really had that nice mala flavor while again, not being super spicy. I usually like it super spicy, but I thought this was well balanced. - Crispy eggplant: nicely fried with a good dipping sauce I will say service was a little bit slow and they kept trying to give dishes to the wrong parts of the table, but I won't fault them too much given how large a group we were. They were also able to bring out candles with the cake we ordered for a birthday celebration at the end. This new Bowery location is much larger than their other spots. Love that they serve vegan Szechuan food so my non red meat eating self can finally experience dan dan noodles and spicy wontons. On this visit I had the Beyond beef glass noodles, which were delicious. They don't hold back when it comes to spice, but you can choose your heat level for many dishes. I will say the food is quite oily, even for Szechuan standards, but it makes for good drunchies. The moody dark pink lighting makes it feel like you're always at the club at this location, so apologize for the dimly lit photos of my food attached. It's not necessarily an upgrade from their other locations - just larger and with more of a scene vibe. If you find yourself in Bowery with friends who have different dietary preferences, Spicy Moon bridges that gap nicely. read more

It's akin to the old commercial "I can't believe it's not butter", I simply can't believe it's vegan for every single dish I tasted! The taste and flavor didn't get sacrificed for vegan. I was most impressed by the Dan Dan noodle and the strawberry cake. The place is also unique because of the on site beer brewery. There isn't any place like it in NYC! There is also a party room available for private parties and events in the basement. We had the most fantastic service because the owner June came by. At one point I bit into one and pulled the mushroom out of the rest of the coating and both parts tasted the same which is fine if you love spicy cheez doodles. They were not crispy at all - Dan Dan Noodles: these smell like they have peanuts in them but it's actually the sesame paste. They were pretty good! - Double cooked mushroom: I enjoyed this the most. I placed a pickup order online and received a notification that the order was ready for pickup. I then walked to the restaurant, only to find that the order was not actually ready. After waiting about five more minutes, I was finally given the order. When I pointed out that the system had marked the order as ready more than ten minutes earlier, I was told that the kitchen marks orders as "ready" when they begin preparing them so they don't get confused. No apology was offered. The whole point of a pickup notification is to let customers know when their food is actually ready. Marking orders as complete before they are prepared defeats the purpose and wastes customers' time. read more

Low lighting with hot pink light bulbs that cast everything in a magenta haze. Green velvet booths. Patterned wall paper. This is a great place to go with a group and dine family style, which is exactly what we did. The steamed vegetable dumplings were okay, but a little dry. The crispy eggplant was deeply batter fried and barely tasted like eggplant, in a good way. The accompanying sauce had a touch of sweetness. The string beans were fantastic. They were loaded with chili sauce and very flavorful. The salt and pepper style was tasty, however it was hard to distinguish the ingredients because of the very thick fried batter. The dry pot style was deliciously spicy. My absolute favorite dish was the dan dan noodles, which were coated with a mouth-watering, rich sauce and heaped with mushroom bits to mix in. I would probably not go here again unless I'm with someone who wants to eat plant-based. 2.5/5 Mapo tofu - probably the best thing I had here, not too spicy. Char siu shiitake bun - no no no. So far off from how a char siu bun should taste, and tiny for the price. Missing that barbeque flavor completely. I was craving a Mei Lai Wah bun after this. Wontons in chili oil - decent, texture of the wrap was odd though. Kind of reminded me of a pasta, rather than what I'd expect from a wonton wrapper. Chili oil wasn't too spicy. Ube mule - basically a purple Moscow mule. Could barely detect ube since the ginger ale overpowered it. Fruit punch - really sweet, tasted like juice out of a carton you could get at a grocery store. The space is quite large and decked out in pink lighting to feel more like a bar/club. The music here is on fire - think Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion... if you want a hype playlist this is great for you, but I personally didn't dig how loud it was.
