We wanted to try a North Dakota local pizza place. This place was recommended so we decided to pick some up on our way home. The main door that you see from the street is locked. We only knew that they were open because we saw people walking around from the other side of the building. We walk in and a portion of the menu was covered by booster seats that explained how to order. Today's special was a 1-topping 18inch for $12. We ordered two. We had talked to the person at the cash register about the deal, and thought it was great. Additionally we wanted one of the 2 slice with a drink deal that was like 6 bucks. WE WERE NOT RUNG UP FOR EITHER DEAL. When approached he shrugged and said he didn't know how to do it. We ordered a spicy sauce and sausage pizza and a pepperoni pizza with original sauce. The spicy sauce was basically Buffalo sauce and gross. Slices are the size of Costco slices and if there is an option to order several for a deal (if they ring it up right) then it could be used for a party. Conveniently located to Minot State University, this restaurant serves dine-in and delivery. My daughter and I visited here from California with 3 locals who have dined here on several occasions. Our visit was for lunch on a Friday. Parking in the large lot out front was easy. Seating was plentiful and there was next to no wait. The dining room decor (with a bike suspended from the ceiling that was adorned with old school records) was fun and the vibe was social. There was even a bar area. We ordered at the counter and about 10 minutes later, our food was brought to us. We ordered a large cheese pizza and a veggie sandwich. The food looked and tasted good (not great) but considering what we ordered, it was to be expected. (We didn't give them much to work with.) Service was friendly. Prices were standard. Finally, the gender specific, multi-user restrooms were clean and spacious. Rounding up from a 3.6, this restaurant earned 4 stars. read more

One of the better places in Minot to get pizza from. It would be nice if their hours were more consistent, or at least the app and websites updated to reflect them. The employees are pretty friendly, and they are very good about the special notes you put in for online orders. The selection of food is nice, I enjoy being able to get pizza and nachos and the pizza variety is nothing to scoff at. The quality of the pizza is hit or miss sometimes, ranging from underdone to overdone frequently, but the majority of the time if's decent. Their rewards program is pretty fantastic too. Pizza crust was undercooked. I've had pizza at Chuck E. Cheese better than this. The bread bites were a disgrace. Take the New York style badging off yourself. This is NOT New York style. First time trying this place out. We ordered the Smorgasbord Pie and it was delicious! We wanted to try a variety of toppings so this was our best bet. I loved the fact that the dough was thin and wasn't too doughy or oily/greasy. The spicy sauce has a little kick to it but it's not overly spicy. We also ordered the Zeppoli dessert and it surely hit the sweet spot. I definitely want to try other items on the menu so we'll be back for sure! read more

I was on the Eastbound Amtrak Empire Builder, it was full and running late and since I was travelling coach, the dining car reservations filled up before they got to me. The train stops for 15 minutes in Minot so I called Spicy Pie and ordered a pizza to be delivered two hours in the future to the depot platform at the estimated arrival time. Despite the train being 10 minutes further delayed, their guy was there with the pie. It really hit the spot. It's not gourmet pizza but hot, tasty and with good ingredients. My family and I have "Pizza Friday" (mostly) ever week, so after trying a few other non-(inter)National chains, we decided to give Spicy Pie a try. We drove by Spicy Pie a few times after just moving here and both the exterior aesthetic and name drew us in. When you walk in, the exterior flows into the interior. Nice little sports bar/pizzeria feel. You order at the counter and pay after ordering which makes it difficult if you decide later to add a beverage or anything else. We ordered an 18" half Hawaiian/half pepperoni and an order of garlic knots. We sat down and about 10-15 minutes later we received our garlic knots with marinara sauce. The knots were warm but the marinara sauce was damn near ice cold. The knots were absolute atrocious. They were dry and didn't have even a hint of garlic. They were basically dinner rolls. The sauce would've been decent if it was warmed up. Our pizza arrived about 25 minutes after ordering. The slices are huge (6 slices to an '18"' pizza). That's about as far as the moniker of "NY-style Pizza" ends. The sauce was decent enough, plentiful toppings, okay cheese with flavorless crust and was absolutely covered with flour underneath making it tough to palate. The pizza didn't come out piping hot either which makes me think it sat for awhile after finishing. I couldn't find any crushed red pepper and stood waiting for assistance at the counter for about 5 minutes before giving up and deciding to get some Tapatio sauce which did not come close to complimenting the pie. Upon entering, very unfriendly atmosphere. The folks working there just stared at us and didn't say hello nor asked to take our order. The thing that really appalled us was the red/pink slime oozing in the ice machine. I pointed out the pink/red mold in ice machine and she did nothing. The pizza was over cooked/sitting too long. Everyone that had been there has enjoyed it in the past. So we ordered three 18" pies. Atmosphere - No I idea as I was at home eating the take-out pizza. Food (Pizza - 0, 1/2, or full star per item) Crust - 0 - The crust was ruined by the amount of flour on the pizza. I have picture of all the flour left in the box. I understand that you need to put flour on the pizza dough but this amount was excessive. Sauce - 1 - Nothing special. Cheese - 1 - Again nothing special but it was melted nicely and held the toppings nicely. Toppings - 1 - I had the salami, it was not greasy which is a plus. Overall - 3 - The flour really killed my pizza experience. Service - I only ate the pizza, did not place the order or picked it up so I will not judge them on this. Stopped in for a bite before the MSU Spring Football game and my first time impressions of this place are this, not great but not bad. The sauce really defined the pie here because the crust was bland and flavorless. Ample amounts of cheese and toppings were a welcomed sight. Great crunch on the crust with a soft inside. Definitely wouldn't knock it and rank it over a delivery chain. Service at this place is terrible. Walked in 90 minutes before closing time to grab a bite a few weeks ago and all the chairs were stacked, I asked the two ladies at the counter if they were open and they said yes, and then they asked me " How long was I going to be there for?" After that I walked out. I tried this place again this past Friday night and the service was still lacking. I walked in with a party of 4 just past 1030 to grab a drink, after waiting for nearly 5 minutes at the bar ( When this place was mostly empty) with no one acknowledging us, a woman came over from the kitchen and finally took our orders. However, she seemed annoyed that we were there and the drinks she made weren't the best. We have given this place multiple tries. Everytime we try again they are either just as bad or worse. The pizza is mediocre, at best. When eating in, the service is terrible; we've eaten in two or three times with different servers each time and the all have been terrible and the restaurant wasn't even busy. And then this last time we decided to have them deliver to us... after 2 hours of waiting we finally decided to just call and cancel our order seeing as we wouldn't be getting the pizza and the girl on the phones response was "well are you anywhere near that we could make you a fresh one and you can come pick it up?"... we choice delivery for a reason. So no... and then her second response was "well do you want them to deliver the one that is still in its way?" (Not for free or anything).. why would we want a 2 hour old pizza. One of the fun aspects of traveling on a frequent basis is to search out new restaurants. This evening I didn't feel like going far, so I ordered pizza to-go from the pizza place just down from my hotel. I rarely give out a low rating, I usually like to give rave reviews, however, I need to send this one in. First, how can a place screw up pizza? I haven't met a pizza that I didn't like, sometimes I may not like a crust or an odd topping combination. The Spicy Pie is an exception, they absolutely cannot make a pizza. The menu states that this place makes New York-style pizzas. No, it is not a New York-style pizza, if I could quote Wiki-Pedia "New York-style pizza is pizza made with a characteristically large hand-tossed thin crust...." The Spicy Pie is thick, doughy, not even thin or crisp. I've had New York-style pizzas and this is not it. The dough is bland, chewy, no flavor at all and the dough is so thick it can be held with one hand without any bending or drooping. Forget folding this extra-thick cardboard pizza. The thin, hardly visible sauce (I went with non-spicy), is not even there to give it flavor. There is a wide variety of toppings to choose from, I doubt these would help with the flavor, the ones I choose had no flavor. Simply put, gross. I also ordered garlic knots, these were no better, they were giant balls of undercooked, flavorless gobs of dough, I just couldn't even eat one. I do hope that this place does well, the staff were friendly, the place was clean and looks like it can hold a huge crowd. I won't ever go back and will most likely recommend to my traveling friends to try something else. read more

Stopped at this place for a band thing at the college and goodness gracious... I got a jumbo slice of pepperoni pizza with a fountain coke and it was absolutely scrumptious. The pepperonis were as big as a slice of summer sausage and it was so good, I almost cried. The ranch was also absolutely yummy. Went there with a few friends for lunch off Minot AFB for a change. We thought we'd hit up Spicy Pie since none of us had ever been there before. The service was awful. We all got the lunch special, which was two big slices and a drink for $5. Not a bad price, but you'd expect that they'd have the pizza ready to go. NOPE! Spicy Pie is a great place to hang out with a group of people while you eat, drink, and watch the game. If your meal is not up to par, send it back and they will happily fix it for you. I am SO excited to have a good pizza place in Minot!! Or really, a decent place to eat in Minot period is nice. The atmosphere is fun and laid back, the staff is always friendly and attentive. The pizza is New York style thin crust with yummy mozzarella cheese and plenty of toppings to choose from. I'm in Minot once a month, and before I head to New Town or Belcourt, I always stop by here and grab a slice. First off let me just say: Best pizza in Minot. While it's not the best I've ever had (which seems to only exist in New Jersey, New York and strangely enough Orlando Florida...), it's definitely a valid effort and the best I've been able to find in the state of North Dakota. (and believe me there are a lot of bad pizza in ND) They do only one kind of crust: thin crust, and only one size: 18" so you either get a large pizza or by the slice. Their topping selection is a fairly long list of options. A couple things to keep in mind: 1. It is thin crust, and they do not seem to have a grasp on draining some of their toppings; do not overload your pizza with toppings or you will end up with a sloppy mess. Stick with something simple and be prepared to pick up each slice with both hands or it will all fall off the front. 2. They have a revolving selection of special pizzas; but they arent always well though out. The barbecue pizza for example was overly sweet and lacked the subtle earthiness of a good barbecue pizza. So while they do make a decent pizza, it's occasionally hit and miss and I've had the best experiences when I just order my own toppings and not the specials and kept the list to 1, 2 or at most 3 toppings. The rest of the menu is limited but they do have a bar. The chicken wings were decent, but somewhat over priced for the portion size. I have yet to try the tacos or grinders, but I've seen them on other peoples tables and they looked fresh and inviting. If we lived closer I might try those other options for a meal, but at the moment it's a bit of a drive for us to get there and we tend to reserve the trip for when we want a decent pizza. After trying a few of their specials and variations I tend to stick with a whole pie with just mushrooms and occasionally pepperoni. My girlfriend likes the buffalo chicken pizza. So we both tend to get our own pizza and just take home the left overs. Also their zeppole for desert are exceptionally good, among the best I've ever had even back east. Just be sure to eat them hot and fresh, they don't store well. We always order them after we've finished eating everything else so they don't get brought out early and get cold. read more
