    Jerk chicken breast meal

$6.50 FOR PATTIES?!? It is really difficult to write this review but I need to be honest and share my experience. I am hoping that the business will use their customer feedback to improve. So I arrived on their launch day to check out the place and was immediately confused by a few things. They were using another restaurants' kitchen to serve their customers while the other restaurant was also operating. I was greeted by non-Jamaicans in a restaurant that is supposed to feel like home being of Puerto Rican and NYC descent. These two things are minor but could be off putting. I want to patronize Black-owned businesses specifically. Next up, their payment system was down and so I had to go down the block to find an ATM. Keep in mind that the person taking my order while detail oriented and kind had little restaurant experience. Fun fact: she offered to provide us a free bottle of water but the owner was about to add a bottle of water to the bill until she mentioned that we had been waiting awhile. (This was 20 minutes in to an overall 1 hour+ wait.) I would have chalked this up to new restaurant blues but they've received similar feedback in the past. I would have recommended doing a soft launch or rehearsal with friends and family before opening to the public. This would've solved 90% of their operational issues. Finally, let's talk about the food. I am not a business owner but something tells me that waiting over an hour for food is a bit much. I feel like they would've been more successful having their catering stations setup to serve quickly. I doubt that the food was made to order but I do think that because they were sharing a kitchen that there were probably too many cooks in the kitchen. The plating was great! And that was about it. There's no real seating inside. The portions were kind of small for Jamaican style cuisine. The meat tasted juicy and the plantains were fresh but the rice was ... bland... This is not what you'd expect with this type of cuisine. The baked goods were not great; they tasted as good as they looked. The apricot chocolate turnover was undercooked and had a weird flavor profile. I still have the punch in my fridge but I'm reluctant to try it. ‍ I hope they do better in the future. We need more options for Caribbean food but in the meantime I'm gonna find other spots to go to. I'll take a flyer for now.

I definitely raised my eyebrow when I heard my roommate talking about ordering from this operation that is only open one day a week out of random places, but I shut up pretty quickly after trying out the food. This felt like a great homecooked meal, and is something I can see myself getting often, especially since they have a rotating menu. I generally preferred the meal to Back-a-Yard, but would need to get some meat entrees to confirm the differences. Coconut Curry Tofu with Vegetables - 5/5. Lots of natural flavors without being too greasy / salty. The broccoli and tofu had pretty solid texture, and I even noticed that the rice somehow tasted better than normal. Spinach Patty // Callaloo Patty - 5/5. Similarish to spanakopita where you have pastry and some filling in the middle, but a lot thinner. These were full of flavor and great as well.

Wow the oxtail plate was SO FIRE! Perfectly seasoned and flavorful. The plantain was tasty and the oxtail was falling off the bone. The rice and the meat has a kick to it, just the right amount. The salad is fresh and everything arrived on time, I will definitely be ordering through doordash again. Thank you for making my night

Spicy Roy's is exceptionally good food. Let me tell you about it. Here's what my partner and I ordered: coconut tofu curry, chicken and waffle, Spicy Roy's pumpkin soup. The coconut tofu curry was so good. Along with the tofu were big beautiful chunks of coconut meat. Scrumptious! The meal came with coconut rice and beans, fried plantains, and jerk corn on the cob. I will say, the jerk corn wasn't my jam. Otherwise, everything was perfect. I only wish there would have been more of the curry and less of the rice, but if my only complaint is that I wanted more, that's not really a complaint! The chicken and waffle was also very good. All this per my partner: the waffle was slightly sweet and that was really nice. He got the pomegranate syrup and it was a good mix of tart and sweet--not overbearing like some maple story. The chicken breading was also yummy. He enjoyed the spicy green sauce as well. I tried a piece of the waffle with some syrup, and I was a fan, too! Finally, the Spicy Roy's pumpkin soup was also quite good. My partner ordered it for himself because we thought from the name that the soup might be spicy, but it actually wasn't, so I enjoyed some too! I will definitely order again! For now, they set up at Mesquite and Oak on Tuesday evenings for to-go orders. Everyone was super nice and were wearing appreciate PPE.

Food was amazing, full of flavor and huge portions. Picking up the food was super easy and fast. My food was waiting for me in my designated cubby. I was in and out of the building in 20 seconds.

No indoor seating here, but there's an outdoor patio with a couple tables out front. My takeout order was ready in less than 5 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. I selected a bunch of different items, thinking that the "quik eats" on the menu would be small bites. To my surprise, these were pretty much full sized dishes, with bread and fries included, so I ended up with more than enough to last me for days. Everything I got was delicious and exceeded my expectations. The jerk chicken pieces came with two drumsticks and two thighs and had a nice kick from the seasoning. The bbq pork spareribs were tender and juicy and very tasty even before I added the bbq sauce that came on the side. The baked mac and cheese was rich and satisfying. And that cornbread was heavenly, with an ideal texture and nice buttery flavor. It may be the best cornbread I've ever had. They even offer a jamaican version of cornbread on the menu, which the worker explained is more dessert-like and very good too. All in all, this a great option if looking for some good comfort food at great value.

My partner kept telling me how good of a find this place was and I felt accomplished, LOL! We got excited because this is probably one of our favorite cuisines. We ordered the goat curry, mac and cheese, mixed veggies, collard greens, vegetable curry, beef patty, and two orders of fried cornmeal bread... all for a family of 3 (the 3rd human being a 14 month old hahaha). I thought I can give the baby the vegetable curry, but it turned out to be too spicy so hence why we got the mac and cheese and plain mixed veggies. Everything was fire! Maybe with the exception of the collard greens because that tasted like it was cooked in tabasco or something. Their juices were good too! Portions are generous. Luckily, we had leftovers to enjoy the next day. The beef patty was yummy, but I do wish it came with some type of dipping sauce. All the dishes tasted authentic, I felt like I was back in Jamaica. Everything comes in to-go containers which is convenient. They provide paper plates if you want to dine there. The restaurant is maintained well and clean. It is definitely more of a grab-and-go place than a sit-down restaurant, but the food traveled well and made for a solid meal. The plantains were one of the highlights. They were sweet, soft, and cooked really nicely. The rice was pretty average and did not add much to the bowl, but the proteins helped make up for it. The salmon was cooked well and stayed moist, although it could have used a little more seasoning or sauce. The jerk chicken was excellent, with great flavor and a nice amount of seasoning. I also tried some of my friend's oxtail, and that was easily the standout. It was incredibly flavorful, tender, and something I would definitely order next time. I bet a braised beef like barbacoa would've been perfect for this item. It also came with salsa and I selected mild which gave it a nice bright flavor. I also ordered a chicken tamale (they also offer pork) and I was surprised to find a whole chicken wing (no skin) stuffed into the tamale! I broke into it using a fork and hit something hard which turned out to be the bones. But honestly, this was one of the best tamales I've tried in a long time. Decent size portion with a couple of oxtails, two thighs and drumstick. The proteins were moist and tender, but very under-sauced. The collard greens were tender and velvety! I'd suggest that too. The jerk pork was tender, crisp in some spots, and delicious; the jerk chicken was perfectly cooked, well-roasted on the outside, and not at all dry inside; the oxtail was yummy and so tender. My favorite was definitely the jerk chicken. Then, previous to this plate, I've only had red bean rice, which was soggy rice mixed with red beans, so the seasoning on this rice surprised me, and it tasted so good.
