Great cut, kinda pricey but it's for the experience, and they give you booze. The hot towel and neck shave is a major plus. Spiff NYC is an awesome place. I signed up for a year long membership last September and will definitely be renewing this September. When you go, order the "Classic Service" which gets you a haircut, manicure and shoeshine. Your haircut starts with a massage and a hot towel. A stylist will cut your hair while you get a manicure at the same time. You can also drop off your shoes or get a shoeshine in the chair before or after. I've had haircuts from Carlos, Danny and others and all have been fantastic. Plus, you get free drinks from start to finish. The service only takes 30-45 mins but it does not at all feel rushed (rather it is very relaxing). Spiff also does pedicures, massages, shaves and more. I've tried out the other services and loved them as well. Sure Spiff costs a bit more than the typical $20 haircut, but it's well worth it in my view. I actually look forward to getting a haircut now whereas before it was a chore. read more

One of my friends recommended Spiff and I started going to someone who moved out of the area so Patty is now taking care of me. Patty is doing an excellent job on my color and highlights and i really can be a little hard to please, she also does a GREAT job in the cut! A Shady Shave. I booked a beard trim which is listed on their site at $18. I received a Beard trim from Carlos, who was excellent. I went to pay and the total was $28. ....$28?? I asked about it and the Associate said "Did he finish with a straight razor?" I replied. "Yes." "Well, thats how much Beard trim with a Straight Razor Finish is..." "But, thats not the service I booked." "Its in the computer as a Beard Trim with a straight Razor Finish, thats what you got and its $28" I paid AND TIPPED (the transaction wasn't Carlos' fault). Plus, she didn't give me a receipt to prove that Carlos was credited the tip. I'm not the only person this has happened to. I have had several friends charged for services they did not book initially. I feel like theres some shady s*%# stirring at the Spiff. I won't be back. Buyer beware. read more

The haircuts are okay and twice the cost of a better job elsewhere in the neighborhood. Been there three times and the service is good but always off in a frustrating way. They make a big show of trying to pamper you but twice have forgotten part of the package I was supposed to get or tried to charge me for something I didn't get. Last time in on my way out the door I tried to give the lady at the desk some money to give the stylist and shampoo person for tips - instead of just passing that along she made me fill out little envelopes with their names. I don't want a big production or a scotch, I just want a decent haircut and for them to take care of the little things, and they don't do either. read more

Good experience. Came during lunch so didn't have a drink but the full service is solid. They do the multitasking hair/hands/shoes thing. Shampoo before and after kept hair off my dress shirt no problem. Sides and neck with straight razor, and the strokes were smooth enough I would feel confident getting a shave here. Pricing is $68, $20 less than Truman's, in line with John Allan's. Only downside is the girls aren't that hot, as opposed to the absolute stunners the aforementioned competitors employ. read more

what a disaster... have been going for 2 years made an appointment 2 hours before. SHowed up to find the stylist is on holiday. Despite spiff having all my contact details they decided to let me walk 30 blocks round trip for nothing. will not be going back any time soon as the hair cut is basic at best and not worth the money. read more

For the past 15 years, I have had the same long and somewhat juvenile hair cut. I have been to many hair salons in the city, the most I ever spent was $50 and I never left happy about the cut. I recently started a new, more professional job and I decided I should change my look. Making an appointment here was a breeze, I requested a stylist who gives good consultations, as I had no idea what I wanted to do with my hair. I ended up going with Jasmine, as per the recommendation from the lovely girl who annswered the phone. I showed up 45 minutes early, because it was raining and I thought maybe I could squeeze in. They were booked up and clients were running late, so I ended up hanging out watching football, the same thing I would have been doing at home! I was offered a drink, by every single person who walked by me, anything from a cocktail to a cappuccino. When it was my turn, a young lady came over and brought me to the sink, and proceeded to send me into a trance with her magical hair washing skills! Then she sent me to the stylist station, where the same young lady wrapped a warm towel around my face and gave me a soothing shoulder rub while Jasmine got ready. Jasmine knew what to do right away, asked questions relating to what I like and how my hair acts, lays, and so on. She ended up cutting my hair the shortest I've ever seen it, with some fantastic styling, and I could not be happier. When I went to check out, they ended up giving me 50% off because I had been waiting for a while. Keep in mind, the waiting was my decision, I was not delayed by them at all! Top-notch!! I don't like change. Its extremely difficult to find someone to provide good grooming services in Manhattan. That said I've been going to Spiff for years after my roommate referred me and am on my second year of annual membership after "paying as you go" for the first couple years. I am probably renewing for a third year in August which will mark my fourth or fifth year of going to Spiff. I will only let Danny cut my hair and Daphne provide other services such as eyebrow wax, etc. They've earned my trust. I worked out a good deal with Danny for the additional services to be coupled in with my annual haircut membership this past year. Sometimes I have to wait because they are busy but I cannot complain because I have a good deal and am happy with overall service. I like having services provided simultaneously to the haircut to save time and be efficient. I've recommended many friends to spiff but unfortunately not all of them can afford it but they do enjoy it every once in a while. Keep up the good work! read more

I'm a pretty new member to Spiff, but so far I'm a happy camper. The service is usually pretty quick and for the most part friendly. It's nice to be able to pop in for a cut whenever you'd like and have a drink or get a shoe shine while you are waiting. Was recommended this place as I wanted a proper shave. You will not be disappointed. You will have to book but I called in a 2.30 and managed to get an appointment with Jay. Upon arrival I was made very welcome and it is quick to see why this place is highly recommended. You are offered a coffee and general chit chat is not forced. There are work stations everywhere and it took 45 minutes to have my shave. I lost count after the tenth hot towel and Jay even felt necessary to clean up my neck before I left. my first impression was how great looking the store is and how curtious and professional the people were that checked me in. i had an appointment for package of $61 that included a shave, manicure, shoeshine- when i walked in - the service seemed great -i added a haircut - big mistake - it all went downhill from there. danny who is one of the managers there was to do my shave - once in his chair the smell of bourbon or scotch or vodka was sweating from his forehead. i asked if someone else can do the shave - danny very nastly informed me no -he is the best person that shaves at spiff - that he taught all the other people there how to shave and that no changes were allowed. scared out of my mind -at this point i was under the knife - so i let him do the shave - constantly making sure no blood was drawn shave was just average, not $61 worth. i then got my haircut. seeing that danny was cutting without any kind of plan- i asked him to just do a trim - he then told me that it will still cost me $50 for the cut - at this point i did not care -just wanted to get out of there. he trimmed it, i paid and left. i have been to john allans many times - i thought i would try a new place. but i think at spiff- they should make sure that the manager stays away from the bar when he is still working. i guess its back to john allans where its the customer that gets to have open bar, not the workers read more
