The BEST downtown coffee place in the Marina District! I absolutely love Lani Coffee! I live downtown and it is super convenient to walk to. The workers are always super friendly and they really capture the Hawaiian vibe with the decor of the cafe. They serve a large assortment of coffees, Frappuccinos, Smoothies, etc as well as breakfast and lunch sandwiches. They also have Açaí bowls which I haven't tried yet but my friends told me they were very good. I'm also dying to try their crepes one of these days! My usual go-to is the Iced Vanilla Chai Latte and when I'm hungry, I get the egg, ham and cheese breakfast sandwich on a croissant roll. I've also had their toasted sesame bagels with cream cheese and their avocado toast. I would 100% recommend Lani Coffee (and I haven't even mentioned their Hawaiian Kona coffee which is delish! Lani Coffee is a solid 4-star spot with a nice Hawaiian vibe. They use 100% Kona coffee that uses carry Lion Coffee, which is a nice touch. There's a restroom, plenty of seating, and a good selection of pastries and a few sandwiches. It does get a bit cold inside, though. I had the coconut latte -- it tasted great but was a little too sweet for me. I'd recommend asking for less syrup if you don't like overly sweet drinks. Ugh so sad to be posting this because i love coming here. I will stick to only coming in person. I ordered a lunch sandwich on a bagel on DoorDash. I selected turkey as my protein and selected no cheese. There is no option to add mayo and mustard unless i just selected "light mayo" or i had the option to choose no mayo and mustard. This made me assume it came with it. There was an option to add lettuce tomato and onion, but the menu picture showed it coming on it already. I received a plain bagel with a slab of turkey on it and literally nothing else. It wasn't even sliced turkey it seemed to be the slab of the end of a head of deli turkey and didn't look fresh. And DoorDash prices are always inflated to it was $13.25 for this! I'll stick to going in person for just coffee. read more

OMG SOOO GOOD AND AFFORDABLE! Each time I travel to San Diego this is always a must go. I like the various pastries provided, black berry muffin being my favorite, but the danish's are also fantastic. Their coffee refills are such good prices and great Hawaiian coffe like I had in Kauai. I also tried the white chocolate mocha last time I went there and it was great, not too sweet and you could taste the white espresso. The restaurant is always so homey and the paintings are really pretty. The music they play always soothes me and it's a great place to hang out in. Many locals come. Having just gone to Hawaii for my first time not 8 months ago, I was very pleased to find this spot while in San Diego for work. It was on my way to the convention center and as soon as you step in I immediately got those aloha vibes. The only downside is that I didn't try the avocado toast or the breakfast burrito, but I was hooked on the acai smoothie and oatmeal (with added PB). I also loved that I could get a 32oz toasted coconut iced coffee for around $5, which is refreshing because good coffee elsewhere usually costs a lot more for a lot less. And sometimes, it isn't even that good. This place runs on aloha time so don't expect a 45-second visit, but grab a seat, close your eyes, and perhaps for just a few minutes you'll feel like you are in Maui or Kauai just getting your day started. read more

This is a cute local coffee shop with a limited amount of seating, but with really good authentic Hawaiian coffee. We ordered an iced Kona coffee and an iced caramel macchiato and both were good. To eat we ordered a salmon bagel to share. The bagel was big and it had lots of cream cheese, a lot of raw red onions, a thin layer of salmon and taste of capers. It tasted good, but would've preferred more salmon and less onions and cream cheese. They have a similar setup to Starbucks where you pick your order at the end. read more

I was serving the civic duty and had a 90 minute lunch. While walking to my lunch destination on 5th, I passed by and thought to drop by on my way back after lunch for my 3rd coffee of the day. It had been a while since I last saw a place serving Lion Coffee, so it definitely caught my attention. Place appears very relaxed and casual. Staff was very friendly. Heads up that although there was a check-in offer for 15% off, they did struggle to enter it in due to there being a new register system (was about to say that it was okay). The iced Lion Thai Latte was sweet and a great dessert coffee to the lunch hour before I returned to the courthouse that was around 10-15 minute walk away (with stoplights). read more

I've been purchasing Lion Coffee for my customers and myself for many years. Their logo and my business logo both contain Lion heads. Not long ago, I purchased a large bag of toasted coconut Lion coffee at the cafe. Unfortunately, the employee grinded the beans into a fine powder, instead of standard drip grind as I requested. The coffee was ground into such a fine powder that it was unusable. I communicated with the owner about the mistake and I've been waiting for the owner to invite me to pick up a replacement bag of toasted coconut Lion Coffee since the incident. It's crazy that I've bought so much product from this company and the very first time I have an issue, there's zero customer service. read more

Used to come to the place to work and have some breakfast until I once was asked to leave because I haven't made an order within 20 minutes of being there. Barista told me that the boss was watching cameras. There were plenty of empty tables in cafeteria that time. Came across this place during jury duty & I gotta tell you I'd go back every day if I could! I got a white macadamia nut latte kinda drink and it was so good I'd buy it by the gallon to have at home if they sold it! Had a great smoothie here but the breakfast burrito was legitimately the worst breakfast burrito I've ever had in my life. I bought 4 burritos for me and my family and we all threw them away after 2 bites. Tortilla was soggy, barely any sausage or egg, all potato and cheese. The little bits of sausage in the burrito were disgusting and rubbery. Not to mention the burrito was super small. Kona coffee is THE BEST kind, don't at me. You can sit indoor or outside. We chose out to enjoy the breeze. Street parking per usual SD. The coffee is A1. I got the Aloha White Mocha. Best friend got the Mahalo. Boo thang got the coconut latte. Everything was deeeellicciouss. Food wise, it's just another place. The Steak Burrito was regular. The Salmon Avocado Toast was drowning in balsamic vinegar so the flavor was a bit more sour than I'm used to. The capers were extra large and salty so I ended up pushing most of it off. The cherry tomatoes were great to try to combat the overpowering tastes. Breakfast sandwich comes with your choice of bread, meat and cheese. Two times in a row my ham croissant came out with Turkey instead. There is an issue with the pick up system. A lot of times someone else will order the same thing as you. (Surprisingly, everyone orders oat milk! lol) Five drinks came out the exact same way. My steak burrito ended up getting taken by someone who ordered after me. Some confusion that makes enjoying your meal difficult. We were all expecting a little more Hawaiian local variety like spam, Portuguese sausage, rice, saimin. But that's okay. I went around 8 am on Sunday. It wasn't too busy. A few people in and out, a few stayed in (including me). I ordered a coconut latte with oat milk and a classic açaí bowl. The latte was smooth and subtle but yummy in flavor. The açaí was simple, but so delicious. I love that they use Lion Coffee from Hawaii. Hawaiian decor is incorporated in the cafe. Lion coffee brings back so many memories. I was walking from the train station to my hotel and passed a sign that said lion coffee. This brought back a time and a taste to my mind. I made a note that I had to go back. So the next day I retraced my steps and was so happy I did. I could tell that they were busier than usual due to ComicCon andcwete handling the influx of people better than you can expect. Any way I ordered an ice coffee with oatmilk, it was served in a timely manner and I settled in and did a little work and had a great interaction with one of their regulars. My avocado toast was really good. I'm not usually a fan of avocado with no chunks, but with the arugula and tomato I did not mind. Over all great spot I may make this a con tradition. read more
