    Review on Ruben Chavez 20018

I find this review to be pretty sad. We love the employees and food at Spires in Carson on Wilmington Ave, however, I must write this review in hope the owner of this location will see what kind of manager he has at his location. In 2018 I wrote a review regarding a manager, Ruben Chavez, that was at the Lakewood location. Unfortunately, the owner of that location passed away, and I was unable to share our experience with him. In 2018 we were accused of stealing a bottle of USED Cholula Hot Sauce. Yes USED!! Ruben Chavez ran out of the resturaunt and demanded to give his hot sauce back. He said I put it in my black bag, well I had 2 bags, so I told him he can go through my purse himself and he will see there was no chili sauce in there. He said I put it in my other bag, which was actually my Service Dogs bag, so my husband grabbed her bag and dumped it out. Her pee pads, water, water dish, food dish and blanket fell out of the bag. My husbnad asked him to show us the Cholula Hot Sauce that we supposenly took. He couldn't because we didn't steal anything! The waitress Patricia is the one who told him we took it from the table. She was not our waitress and she could of asked Vanessa who was our waitress, and she should have looked on the table we were sitting at and she would of seen the bottle of TAPATIO that we actually used that night. We never even used Cholula. Ruben said he made a big mistake, and he just repeated that over and over. No apology, no I'm sorry, he wouldn't even let me back into the restaurant to confront Patricia who claims we took the hot sauce we never even had on our table. How humiliated we were and we already knew that Patricia and Ruben didn't like us because we have tattoos and he had told other employees that we "look like bad people". We do a lot for our community and are good people. So of course we stopped going to that location, then it closed their doors shortly thereafter. Fast forward 8years. We recently started to eat at Spires in Carson. Sunny the manager is really nice, Hugo and the ladies are super nice too, we are always treated so well by them. Then there is one Manager that for some reason was always so smug. He never smiles, he isn't friendly and he has always treated us rudely, when people come in he points where he wants you to sit and gives you a menu and that's it. I don't know if any of you have experienced the same thing, but we most certainly have. We thought he looked familiar but couldn't place him, well we finally remembered where we knew him from and it was the manager from the Lakewood Location Ruben Chavez! That explains it, he knew exactely who we were and that 100% confirms why he is the way he is with us (like its our fault he falsely accused us of stealing Hot sauce). So my husband decided to ask him if he remembers us and of course he said yes right away. So my husband said "oh you do know us, from where?" Ruben responded with " from the other place, you used to go eat there all the time". So he knew exactly what he did to us but still never came up to us and apologiezed. So then my husband told him the he dumped our service dogs bag out and no hot sauce cam out and how embarrassing it was for us. Still Ruben didn't say anything! He then made a smirk, and my husband asked him if he thought it was funny what he did to us and Ruben said, "No, I don't want to talk about it! I just don't want to talk about it!" So 8 years later this so called Manager still doesn't have the professionalism in him to appologies and admit he was wrong. We are paying customers and we help pay his paycheck, he seems to forget that part. On top of this we notice Ruben sends the employees home and he serves the tables to collect the tips. He takes that away from the waitresses and waiters, very selfish. In 8 years we thought he would have grown as a person and take course on managing but he hasn't. All we want and deserve is an apology from Ruben! The owner needs to know this because he may not even know what happened at the other location. If anyone has experienced his rudeness please write a review. You can read my previous review in 2018 attached as aphoto, and like I stated in that review, Just because we are tattooed doesn't make us bad people!!

Haven't been back to this place since before Covid... so I was looking forward to eating here again since it was my parent's favorite place to dine. Hubby and I chose to eat here for breakfast. Upon arrival it looked busy but there were still open spots so we were greeted and given a booth to sit in. The restaurant looks like a truck stop eatery. You probably won't expect much from a place that looks outdated but as you enter you'll find that it's not for truckers but you'll find groups of families dining and enjoying their meal because the service is great and the servers are friendly. The waitress was nice and served us our drinks in a timely manner. Once we ordered our meal it was ready in a matter of minutes. I don't think we waited that long. Food was on point. I ordered the biscuit and gravy with sausage & bacon and a side of hash browns. Hubby ordered the chili cheese fries omelette with a side of country potatoes and toast. The prices are descent and affordable considering inflation. We will definitely return and maybe make it a regular spot for us.

This place has really great food and friendly professional staff. They have great KETO options. They have two different types of vegetables, I always get the steam broccoli and the steamed Zucchini and a side of Avocado with what ever meal I ordered and you can have either a bowl of soup or a salad and garlic bread or dinner roll , also I get an unsweetened iced tea. I have tried the Salmon dinner that was really tasty and I also had the chili sized, but without the bun and I also had the Shrimp skewers and you get two of those and those are made with garlic butter, very tasty. I also got the chili cheese omelette, very good and instead of potatoes I got the broccoli and a side of avocado. This place has a lot of desserts, but right now I have to not think of those as I am losing weight. There are many more options and they have indoor dining and there are plenty of parking.

I wanted to add photos to this. Pics do not do it justice on the freshness and quality and the prices are very much affordable

    French vibes.

This place is a simple dated restaurant. The food is classic American; like a burger and fries with a cold Dr Pepper. They have booths next to the windows and ample parking outside. They are located right next to the freeway so you can exit, eat, and get back on the road. The Custumer service was good the waiters were polite and attentive.

My wife and I had an enjoyable breakfast experience, tasting some unique dishes that are worth coming in for. We had a real early errand in the Lomita area, so wanted to take advantage by trying a different breakfast place. They have a really informative website, explaining the owning family's participation and how some of their food is sourced. It's a brunch place (open from 8 am to 2/3 pm, Tu-Su), so needed to wait a bit outside (street parking only, found one hour free parking right in front since coming so early). Menus are available at the front counter, and you place and pay (clover) for your order first. The food came out soon after, delivered to your table. There is a self-serve water jug in the same area as take-as-you-need take-out containers (also saw a self-serve costco-size plastic wrap box for wrapping...such a Korean thing to do). Utensils and napkins are available at the table to take for need. I really like places like this that have optimized the service experience, getting what you need without having to track someone down. Forking Around's Filipino Burrito ($18.95) - a collab with the food influencer 'Forking Around' to put into a breakfast burrito, many common ingredients from a Filipino breakfast. This includes egg, garlic fried rice as base and a vegetable lumpia with longanisa pieces, wrapped in a good flour tortilla. Sides were both a cilantro lime crema and a well made sawsawan. The sausage was not too sweet nor too red (though perhaps a bit too meatloaf-like), and the lumpia in the burrito worked for me. Korean Breakfast with bulgogi and steamed rice ($19.95) - it was served in a cast-iron skillet and the pan had been heated up greatly...super hot when served and still warm by the time we left. The flavor of the bulgogi was solid, and I loved the presentation. Taco Truck Burrito ($17.95) - korean-style al pastor pork, with pineapple and kimchi fried rice and egg. It was good....forgot to ask if the meat was really cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Came with a good chipotle salsa and lime crema. We were done in 30 minutes, from entry to exit. It wasn't too busy, so asked the front-of-house lead where the longanisa sausage and lumpia were made...she stated that it was all in-house. That's really impressive, making an ingredient from scratch that is only used in one dish. This and the elegant presentation and longevity really shows that the entire team behind bites & bashes cafe (catering) knows what they are doing.

The line was long, but it moved efficiently to the cashier, and like always, the food was great. The only issue I had was the group of ladies arguing with the supervisor about their seating arrangement. From what I witnessed, the manager remained calm, respectful, and professional toward the group. So I'm not sure why they decided to grace the outdoor seating area with an encore performance of "What I would have done if I were the manager" for the next 20 minutes. I understand that the table felt wronged, and everyone has the right to voice their concerns. But at some point, the nonstop complaining only disrupted the experience of the other customers trying to enjoy their Saturday brunch. As for us, we had another great experience. Everything feels clean, classy and thoughtfully put together. When you first arrive, seeing the line out the door can be a little intimidating. Usually at places like this, I feel like I have to fight for my life to find a table, but thankfully that wasn't the case here. The staff was very kind and asks how many are in your party and helps you get a table, which made everything much less stressful. They also give you menus while you wait so you can decide what you want ahead of time. We arrived at 10:30am and our wait was about 30 minutes so by the time we were able to order at 11am, the lunch menu was also available. I ordered the tater tots, Cinnagave Shaken Espresso, Dutch Baby Pancake and country sourdough toast with jam. With tax and tip, my total came out to around $40. It's definitely pricier than what I normally pay for breakfast. Most entrées range from $17-$34 and coffees are around $5-$10, so you can easily spend $30+ for one person. In these hard times, that's not exactly ideal for me. I also wanted to try a pastry to get the full experience, but when I found out the small blackberry danish was $7, I decided to pass. I just couldn't justify getting that close to $50 for breakfast for one person. Now for the food! The country sourdough toast with jam was actually my favorite item. The homemade sourdough was incredible and honestly deserves its roses. It sounds like such a simple thing, but it was so well done and easily the standout for me. Visually, the Dutch Baby Pancake was beautiful and definitely impressive when it came out. I've always wanted to try one, so I was excited! I will say, I've read everywhere that Dutch babies are supposed to have more of a custardy center and even the photos I've seen look that way. Mine didn't really have that texture at all and tasted more like a crepe. Maybe it was a little overcooked? It wasn't bad, just not quite what I expected. Still delicious! Unfortunately, the tater tots were the biggest disappointment. They weren't crispy, didn't taste seasoned and sort of fell apart until they became one big potato mess. My cousins and I ended up not finishing them. One of my cousins ordered the summer peach and corn salad, which she liked! Just a heads-up that it's only available after 11 a.m. My other cousin got the skillet, she mentioned feeling a little disappointed since it tasted a little dry and didn't finish her plate. However they both ordered the Curious George drink and LOVED it! The Cinnagave Shaken Espresso was also fantastic. Coffee is definitely something they do very well here and I can see myself getting again. Overall, the aesthetics are adorable and I could see this being a great date spot. The coffee was fantastic, the sourdough was amazing, but the rest of the food was just okay for us. That was a little disappointing because everything sounds SO good on paper. Maybe we just caught them on an off day. The prices are probably the biggest thing holding me back from coming back regularly. Spending $30-$40+ per person for breakfast isn't really in my budget right now, but if this is within your price range, you may have a completely different experience. When I review a place, I try to take the overall experience, personal taste and effort into account. For now, I'm leaving Zuzu's Petals at 4 stars because the effort is definitely there, and what isn't my cup of tea may be someone else's liquid gold. I'd still give them another chance in the future... after I get paid!

According to DoorDash, the top three most-liked orders are the Haus Burrito, Bronco Burrito, and Wurst Burrito. *** Bronco Burrito (3 fresh eggs, smoked bacon, white american cheese, avocado, pickled jalapeños, crispy tater tots, cotija cheese & chipotle aioli wrapped in a flour tortilla then grilled - sunny side egg - $12.99): The bacon was a bit salty and the tortilla was mediocre. The fillings were good, but adding jalapeños felt like a questionable decision. Overall, it tasted too saucy for my liking and I didn't even touch the chipotle sauce that came on the side. *** This is one of those passable breakfast burritos you get because it is convenient and available all day. Personally, I am sticking to places like Phanny's or Brother's Burritos for breakfast burritos in the South Bay.
