    Review on Ruben Chavez 20018

I find this review to be pretty sad. We love the employees and food at Spires in Carson on Wilmington Ave, however, I must write this review in hope the owner of this location will see what kind of manager he has at his location. In 2018 I wrote a review regarding a manager, Ruben Chavez, that was at the Lakewood location. Unfortunately, the owner of that location passed away, and I was unable to share our experience with him. In 2018 we were accused of stealing a bottle of USED Cholula Hot Sauce. Yes USED!! Ruben Chavez ran out of the resturaunt and demanded to give his hot sauce back. He said I put it in my black bag, well I had 2 bags, so I told him he can go through my purse himself and he will see there was no chili sauce in there. He said I put it in my other bag, which was actually my Service Dogs bag, so my husband grabbed her bag and dumped it out. Her pee pads, water, water dish, food dish and blanket fell out of the bag. My husbnad asked him to show us the Cholula Hot Sauce that we supposenly took. He couldn't because we didn't steal anything! The waitress Patricia is the one who told him we took it from the table. She was not our waitress and she could of asked Vanessa who was our waitress, and she should have looked on the table we were sitting at and she would of seen the bottle of TAPATIO that we actually used that night. We never even used Cholula. Ruben said he made a big mistake, and he just repeated that over and over. No apology, no I'm sorry, he wouldn't even let me back into the restaurant to confront Patricia who claims we took the hot sauce we never even had on our table. How humiliated we were and we already knew that Patricia and Ruben didn't like us because we have tattoos and he had told other employees that we "look like bad people". We do a lot for our community and are good people. So of course we stopped going to that location, then it closed their doors shortly thereafter. Fast forward 8years. We recently started to eat at Spires in Carson. Sunny the manager is really nice, Hugo and the ladies are super nice too, we are always treated so well by them. Then there is one Manager that for some reason was always so smug. He never smiles, he isn't friendly and he has always treated us rudely, when people come in he points where he wants you to sit and gives you a menu and that's it. I don't know if any of you have experienced the same thing, but we most certainly have. We thought he looked familiar but couldn't place him, well we finally remembered where we knew him from and it was the manager from the Lakewood Location Ruben Chavez! That explains it, he knew exactely who we were and that 100% confirms why he is the way he is with us (like its our fault he falsely accused us of stealing Hot sauce). So my husband decided to ask him if he remembers us and of course he said yes right away. So my husband said "oh you do know us, from where?" Ruben responded with " from the other place, you used to go eat there all the time". So he knew exactly what he did to us but still never came up to us and apologiezed. So then my husband told him the he dumped our service dogs bag out and no hot sauce cam out and how embarrassing it was for us. Still Ruben didn't say anything! He then made a smirk, and my husband asked him if he thought it was funny what he did to us and Ruben said, "No, I don't want to talk about it! I just don't want to talk about it!" So 8 years later this so called Manager still doesn't have the professionalism in him to appologies and admit he was wrong. We are paying customers and we help pay his paycheck, he seems to forget that part. On top of this we notice Ruben sends the employees home and he serves the tables to collect the tips. He takes that away from the waitresses and waiters, very selfish. In 8 years we thought he would have grown as a person and take course on managing but he hasn't. All we want and deserve is an apology from Ruben! The owner needs to know this because he may not even know what happened at the other location. If anyone has experienced his rudeness please write a review. You can read my previous review in 2018 attached as aphoto, and like I stated in that review, Just because we are tattooed doesn't make us bad people!!

Haven't been back to this place since before Covid... so I was looking forward to eating here again since it was my parent's favorite place to dine. Hubby and I chose to eat here for breakfast. Upon arrival it looked busy but there were still open spots so we were greeted and given a booth to sit in. The restaurant looks like a truck stop eatery. You probably won't expect much from a place that looks outdated but as you enter you'll find that it's not for truckers but you'll find groups of families dining and enjoying their meal because the service is great and the servers are friendly. The waitress was nice and served us our drinks in a timely manner. Once we ordered our meal it was ready in a matter of minutes. I don't think we waited that long. Food was on point. I ordered the biscuit and gravy with sausage & bacon and a side of hash browns. Hubby ordered the chili cheese fries omelette with a side of country potatoes and toast. The prices are descent and affordable considering inflation. We will definitely return and maybe make it a regular spot for us.

This place has really great food and friendly professional staff. They have great KETO options. They have two different types of vegetables, I always get the steam broccoli and the steamed Zucchini and a side of Avocado with what ever meal I ordered and you can have either a bowl of soup or a salad and garlic bread or dinner roll , also I get an unsweetened iced tea. I have tried the Salmon dinner that was really tasty and I also had the chili sized, but without the bun and I also had the Shrimp skewers and you get two of those and those are made with garlic butter, very tasty. I also got the chili cheese omelette, very good and instead of potatoes I got the broccoli and a side of avocado. This place has a lot of desserts, but right now I have to not think of those as I am losing weight. There are many more options and they have indoor dining and there are plenty of parking.

I wanted to add photos to this. Pics do not do it justice on the freshness and quality and the prices are very much affordable

    French vibes.

This place is a simple dated restaurant. The food is classic American; like a burger and fries with a cold Dr Pepper. They have booths next to the windows and ample parking outside. They are located right next to the freeway so you can exit, eat, and get back on the road. The Custumer service was good the waiters were polite and attentive.

This time we ordered the specials which come with empanada (potatoes and chorizo), mussels in some sort of "curry" like sauce, and and braised short rib with rice (you can also choose mashed potatoes instead of rice). You order at the counter, so we pay ahead. The verdict: wow. Everything was just wow. Such a great combination of food, I shared it with my bf and the whole thing was $31 before tax and tip. It was so good. The empanada was probably one of the best one in the city (the only contender is selva's empanada), the mussels were so good and the sauce too. Short rib with rice was amazing. It has more fat than meat lol but still really delicious. We brought our dog and they have a front patio with high chairs. It was a nice day so it worked out perfectly. The neighborhood is a little "sketchy" to me, this restaurant is literally surrounded by dive bars. I would imagine if they were located in downtown or 4th st, or Belmont then it would be so packed. But then maybe it would be even way more expensive. The price right now is great for what you get. Go try this place if you appreciate tasty food!

Fell apart in my mouth with just a fantastic flavor and texture, and the mushroom tacos were so on point. Not to mention the service here. Veronica was absolutely delightful. She took a lot of pride in their food, and let her talented husband has produced. You absolutely must give Black Pork a try. There are tiny little gem, that's absolutely priceless.

The dining room was nicely decorated- dark walls w oversized brightly painted art systematically placed. The dessert was disappointing. We love tiramisu..so we thought the pistachio tiramisu would be a fun take. Pistachio overload. No layers of flavors like tiramisu at all. The only nod to tiramisu were the ladyfingers. I wouldn't say it is necessarily family friendly, especially small kids, but our kids were fine dining there. They don't have a kids menu but the chef was able to make the kids some simple things they loved - pasta and cheese!! The highlight though was the Porsche shaped butter. Very friendly, offered good suggestions and had a general good vibe about them. I am so bad at getting their names. I only remember Joseph and he was cool but our table was handed over to another waitress shortly after arrival and I don't remember her name but she was great. I'm super indecisive, especially with massive menus - Cheesecake Factory is a nightmare - but The Pan had a great variety so it made the choice a bit difficult. I saw they had a cuban sandwich and I froth at the mouth for these but I was convinced to try the loaded hashbrowns. We actually got into a little conversation about the miscommunication between restaurants and customers sometimes because everyone's definition of hashbrown is different. Are they the McDonalds oval shaped golden discs or the shredded and pancake-style flat things? OR are they those weird onion and pepper potatoes that some people call hashbrowns even though they are home fries BUT they're not even fried, they're sauteed so clearly having an identity crisis but anyway... The Pan's loaded hashbrowns are.... the shredded kind! :D Wow, if someone actually broke through my review and read my potato rant... I'm buying you breakfast here... Limit $20 :) Anyway... couldn't help but order my plate with a guava pancake as I've never heard of that before and tried stepping a little out of my comfort zone and trying something a bit different. Was very yummy, although I have my eye on the banana pancakes for next time. Glaze was a little runnier than expected, although I did take a minute to dive into the pancake as I was preoccupied by the hashbrowns - delicious by the way. Hashbrowns came loaded with: cheese, green onion, chopped pieces of bacon (thick kind, not bacon bits!) and diced sausage (turkey sausage is an option, so I'll def opt for that next time). Dish was nicely seasoned, no overpowering spices or unnecessary aiolis - wait, actually it did come with a chili aioli but it was more like a spicy mayo and it was not spicy, so it's a good dish for anyone to enjoy. Only thing was it arrived a bit cold; cheese wasn't thoroughly melted but the flavors compensated for that easily so it wasn't really a bother at all. Dish also lacked grease and for it being absolutely covered in cheese, bacon, and sausage, I was happier than heck that there were no grease pools. Service was good, although they lagged a bit with refills - they get insanely busy though so I get it. Again, they compensated with good vibes, suggestions, overall interactions so I wouldn't worry about a lack of attention here. I would probably not advise against ordering the guava pancake; however, it wasn't anything incredibly special so I'd opt for a different flavor if going the pancake route. I'll be back soon - need to try out that Cuban sandwich and get the name of our waitress! Thanks for having us, was a lovely experience.

I'm not sure if it's always that lively on Friday nights, but it was the weekend of Warped Tour, so there was a lot of music and energy. If you're looking for a quieter meal, this may not be the best night to visit. The food itself was good, but the wait was much longer than expected. We waited almost 40 minutes for our order. Unfortunately, my burger was also made incorrectly. I ordered the Bacon Bleu Burger but was served a different burger instead. Not quite sure what it was, but it had mushrooms and American cheese. Since we had already waited so long, I decided to just eat it rather than send it back. The burgers were flavorful, but they were smaller than I expected for the price, and they don't come with fries. To round out my meal, I ordered the poutine fries. They were decent. The fries were nice and crispy, which I appreciated. My husband ordered the Burger Don Chendo, and that ended up being the standout of the night. I usually don't like spicy food, but this burger had just the right amount of heat without being overwhelming. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but between the long wait, the incorrect order, and the portion size for the price, the experience was a bit hit-or-miss. I'd be willing to give them another try, especially for the Don Chendo burger, but I'm hoping for a smoother experience next time.
